Oliver's Adventures in the Fairy Land is an 8bit Retro style Metroidvania-lite Platforming Dungeon Crawler. As the game's title suggests, you play Oliver. Oliver is from "Our Time" and has been summoned by the King, to retrieve his stolen treasure. The platforming is hard enough to keep you feeling challenged, and all the jumps have to be made in both directions. I call it a Metroidvania-Lite because you have to keep backtracking to gather the abilities you need to move forward to the next area, then you backtrack through that area to get to the next. You do get to utilize all of your moves many times, so everything feels useful, and gets its time in the light. The game itself is rather short, able to be beaten easily within a 2-hour window. It has a real old feel to the control, yet is incredibly responsive, allowing for pixel-perfect control. A greater variety of enemies would have been a nice addition. The games bosses present enough challenge to make you think and keep you on your toes. The experience overall was good fun, and like the shorter platforming games of the past, would be fun to play again. Nostalgia fans should have a blast with this game, and new gamers should enjoy the challenge! Expand

A lovely art-style and precise platforming isn’t enough to carry this teenage boy through his adventure.
