I love a good party game, but were getting to the point now that there is just to many of them about and if a particular party game isn’t as fun as the others then it gets lost in the abyss, and that’s unfortunately the case when it comes to Ninja Shodown. Don’t get me wrong this game is fun when played with friends, but your friends aren’t always avaliable so it’s a game that won’t get played very often. It does have single player modes but playing it this way is nowhere near as fun and it just ends up frustrating you because the difficulty can be too much at times. The hit detection also doesn’t help with the difficulty and it just ends up frustrating you even more which is definitely not a good thing in a game like this. The controls though thankfully don’t add to the frustration because they definitely feel tight and responsive throughout. The replay value in the game is very low and that’s mainly down to the modes included in the game. Each mode plays and feels exactly the same and the lack of variation makes the gameplay become tedious very quickly. An inclusion of an online mode would have helped to have give the game more life, but unfortunately there isn’t any online included. The presentation side of the game is very basic, and unfortunately nothing really stands out which definitely follows the trend of the whole game. At the end of the day Ninja Shodown offers glimpses of fun and excitement every now and then, but unfortunately these moments don’t happen enough. I did enjoy the game when I played with some friends but the enjoyment didn’t last very long and we were playing a different game very quickly. As far as a party games go Ninja Shodown won’t be remembered for very long and there are far better games in the genre, so unfortunately I can’t recommend this game to you. Expand

The inclusion of dabbing in a game about ninjas tells you a lot about both the experience itself and the thoughts behind it. Is it serious? No. Is it worth bothering with? Not unless you’ve got some friends over for a party.
