All in all a very good JRPG with fantastic art style, good story, enjoyable combat & lots of content. The kingdom is an awesome feature. The only negative that comes to mind is the clunky UI. It's a bit different than it's prequel. For story & game mechanics you don't need to play the first game (which is also very good tho).

    +Fantastic art style and animation
    +Decent story and character designs
+4k 60fps visuals on series x gamepass -Side quests do not respect player time -Level gated grind barriers can prevent progress -Remarkable lack of voice work for a modern title -Very old school feel to the gameplay ps2/GameCube era I enjoyed much of my time with this game. The plot and art style were a great strength.

I enjoyed much of my time with this game. The plot and art style were a great strength. It has a noticeable lack of voice work throughout with certain parts of missions getting the full VO and most getting text only. Sadly the game design doesn't respect the players time with far too many back and forth fetch quests even in the mainline quests. I wished for a less bloat filled fetch quest heavy mission design and smaller world map. That could've changed it from something less mediocre and more exceptional.

Flaws aside there is a decent action jrpg vibe here.

+ A super clean stylish, engaging action JRPG (not turn based!) + Ghibli-esque style art with vibrant color + Music overall is good, but some themes feel excessive or off. + Characters are memorable & entertaining. Some voice acting feels a bit stilted but doesn't distract too much. Absolutely at least recommending playing the first 30 minutes to

Absolutely at least recommending playing the first 30 minutes to finish the first chapter and decide for yourself if it's a game you'd be interested in digging more into.

If you are wanting a more modern JRPG, Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom PRINCE'S EDITION is still well worth a look. Just be prepared to do a lot of reading, as there is far too little voice acting in here.

Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom Prince's Edition is the best version you can find of the game from developer Level-5. His charming story of how to overcome adversity and have determination. The most affordable battle system, all the released DLC content and the best graphics are included in this version.
