It's subpar. Wondering why? Let me start by saying this is a carbon copy of NHL 21 with a different menu presentation, x-factors, and the addition of the Seattle Kraken. The very key part is game play and when we talk gameplay. It's not flawed much for purposes of mechanics. Very hard to deke on people, passing is not fluent and goes wayward most of the time when you are a manual passer. AI when in game playing is horrible. Especially when playing Be A Pro. If you get selected to any team the biggest flaws is when you constantly have defenseman either still back skating when a player has already passed them either you as the user or a non user on non user. They don't bother to hustle for anything. Passing is always wayward as well . The biggest flaw i've seen from this year is when on a Powerplay the puck is dumped back into the other zone the defense tries to skate into the net and just stops and doesn't look like it knows what to do when it is behind the net, but as soon as the puck gets out of behind the net and moves into a trapezoid they finally know what to do, but by that time it seems like they have already lost the puck to the PK unit and some times give up a goal. Defenseman are constantly forgetting how to pass or advanced the puck they love to go to the boards and get pinned. Or you get the dumb AI who likes to try and skate through a trap and lose the puck. Immediately another issue 5 on 5 in a zone on defense we have 2 guys at the point for absolutely no reason other than one guy is standing there doing nothing when the other point has 1 defender against 2 offensive players. It also seems like plays aren't being made it's random moves to see if you can casually get a goal. No one holds the line, no one really pinches. They don't adapt to a dump and chase game. They make unworldly moves when skating. Makes it seem less realistic. For franchise users. Game still hasn't gotten any college prospects on the game, and still have some players missing. They do little to no research for ratings because they are atrocious as always. You also see potentials being bad. The new in game graphics are somewhat decent but nothing ground breaking. The new storylines for gaining X-Factors is cool, but the fact it still lacks some depth, and it also is the same game as last year when it comes to be a pro. Online is a whole different ballgame. A lot of loading screen issues. A lot of issues when loading into games still.

Some of the things that definitely need improvement.

    Franchise Mode
    -Trade AI
-Depth Detail Contracts (NMCs NTCs Holdouts Morale of Players when they want to leave)

    Gameplay
    -Coaching Adaptivity
-Gameplan (Make it realistic with real hockey theory North Hockey, Physicality, Dump and Chase, etc.)
-Defense AI, Fix Defense not wanting to go behind the net, not willing to pass
-Fix receiving the puck (Everytime I try to receive a pass it shouldn't be sent to me and it bounces off the player's stick every freaking time like he's passing it)
-PK (fix how they play, they aren't going to aggressive like it's 5v5 they are going to hold diamond or a box.)

While I like the new gameplay animations and the new features, I honestly however do not like the change to Frostbite and the Superstar X-Factors but overall, NHL 22 is a solid game.

Another year of copy and paste,,, EA have destroyed this franchise with their greed for the gambling cash grab HUT mode mode,, stripped down other game modes to force you to play the cash grab gambling HUT,,, add some gimmicks,,, broken AI and they refuse to listen to the consumer who have clearly told EA what they want,, bring back GMC,, FIX AI,, fix servers and stop ramming cash grab HUTAnother year of copy and paste,,, EA have destroyed this franchise with their greed for the gambling cash grab HUT mode mode,, stripped down other game modes to force you to play the cash grab gambling HUT,,, add some gimmicks,,, broken AI and they refuse to listen to the consumer who have clearly told EA what they want,, bring back GMC,, FIX AI,, fix servers and stop ramming cash grab HUT down our throat.... Played this franchise since its first released back on megadrive and I will not be buying again... Avoid this,, go back and play nhl 14 because that's the last time that EA released a good nhl game Expand

This game feels so realistic that I cant even belive it myself. Im not that kind of person who buys every NHL game every year. The last time i actully bought a NHL game was NHL 15. So this is a big upgrade. The gameplay feels so realistic, the graphics and just everything. So do your self a favour and pick up this game.

Hockey is a sport that’s very confined to skating on a set rink with a standard 5 vs 5 player configuration. NHL 22 brings all the different styles the game can be played with superstar abilities tailored to the different hockey niches all gamers can appreciate.
