    Sitting between the concepts of both Tetris and Space Invaders, NeuroBloxs is a surprisingly decent game, if indeed one that proves to be overly frustrating and somewhat repetitive in the long run. There’s some baffling design choices as far as its difficulty variation is concerned, but if you can overlook that, a well rounded puzzle-action shooter awaits.

    If you are after a game that will prove to be a great distraction between the big open world triple-A games, then NeuroBloxs is for you. It has that fun old-school arcade playability that is so easy to dive into, letting you waste ten or so minutes at a time.

    There are three difficulties in each mode, which means in a way you can fit the challenging aspects of the game around you. The minamilist approach they’ve gone with when it comes to both the visuals and sound design has been done well and it also fits in with the gameplay as well. I was very impressed with how they’ve combined two different genre’s and when in full flow both these different genre’s combine together well. Each of the levels in the game have a decent amount of variety present in them which in turn keeps things fresh and interesting for longer. The game can at times be a little frustrating so I recommend that you play the game in short bursts. There is a decent amount of variety present when it comes to the levels there isn’t a huge amount of depth present in the gameplay. If you lose all of your lives then you have to restart all over again which may be off-putting for some. But will keep you coming back for more. NeuroBloxs is one of them rare games that meshes two separate genre’s together and if a game does that well then you end up finding that you enjoy it much more. Thankfully NeuroBloxs has done that well and even though it has a few underlying issues it does on the whole get quite a bit right. One of the best things it gets right is that it caters to a number of different skill levels thanks to the multiple options you get when it comes to difficulty. This is a very important addition in my opinion because the game can get pretty frustrating and the different difficulties do combat this in a way. This then means you can enjoy what the game has to offer and it does have quite a bit for you to enjoy. There are multiple levels for you to tackle and with the added bonus of a survival mode you end up forgetting quite quickly about the lack of depth present in the gameplay. At the end of the day then I don’t mind admitting that NeuroBloxs surprised me because I didn’t think this little game would be as enjoyable as it was. This then means that this game gets a decent recommendation from me because it gets the important aspects spot on and it’s great for passing a bit of time every now and then.… Full Review »
