    Less of a puzzle game and more of an experience that heavily relies on reflex and cognitive multitasking, Neonwall isn’t half bad, but it’s likely only going to appeal to a very specific crowd. There’s a few technical issues to contend with and some poor camera behavior, however, credit goes to the game’s distinct originality and its constant stream of interesting gameplay mechanics.

    Neonwall is one of those games that is fun to pick up and play, if only so you can have a quick go every now and then. It would most certainly work better on other formats away from Xbox One as the controls are, frankly, horrible at times, but there are a good few levels included, and enough puzzles to beat to warrant the price.

    Both the visuals and sound design were very interesting and they both made a unique impact throughout my time with the game. The mechanics in the game have a lot of originality to them and they do make the game stand out quite a bit because they’re fun and challenging. I really enjoyed the puzzles in the game because each puzzle was very creative and completing them always gave me a great sense of achievement. There is plenty of frustration within the game because at times the game can be too difficult for its own good. Technically the game suffers with a few issues and some of these issues do have an impact on the immersion the game is trying to create. In terms of content the game doesn’t have a huge amount for you to sink your teeth into and a few co-op modes would’ve been nice.
    Each mode basically plays out the same way so that makes you not want to return back to the game time and time again. There’s literally hundreds and hundreds of puzzle game’s out there so a new addition to the genre needs to be special if it wants to stand out, and unfortunately Neonwall isn’t special enough. Don’t get me wrong it isn’t a bad game and it does stand out in some areas but in the end its shortcomings are too noticeable and they end up holding the game back. This is a shame because I really enjoyed the presentation side of the game and each puzzle has a ton of creativity but in the end you find this creativity comes at a price. This price comes in the form of the game’s difficult nature which can be overbearing and frustrating quite quickly and when you combine that with the game’s lack of content it does make returning back to the game feel like a chore. This then means that the game only gets a very small recommendation from me because this game is definitely not for everybody and the issues the game suffers with means that I can’t give Neonwall a solid thumbs up.    … Full Review »
