Monstrum is a First-Person Procedurally-Generated Horror Survival Game. Fore Note - this game was on PC as a Pre-Release game in 2015. Now you have to find some way to get off the ship and survive from these monsters. You are defenseless here, as there is nothing on the ship that can fight these monstrosities. The graphics are clean for when they are from with well-made textures making the ship feel old and beat up. This adds to the ambiance of the horror, but, how long were you unconscious? That aside, the overall ambiance from the creepy directional sounds and the few well-placed musical bits can be absolutely unnerving. Then add the undefeatable monsters and a few ways to hide, or distract them, and you have a recipe for jump and scream-inducing moments. I usually go unphased by jumpscares and other sudden happenings in games, but the first time the glowing faced hulk was right there around the corner, I nearly jumped from my seat. The map is procedurally generated, making it a new map every time you play, and death is death, so dying will bring you to a new map. Monstrum is a welcomed addition to My Xbox One Horror games, and I recomend it to anyone who likes a deep horror experience. Expand

Sadly, Monstrum on the Xbox One is a poor attempt at an interesting concept. The abandoned ship isn’t the most unique setting for a horror game but being pursued by a bloodthirsty monster should provide at least some tension. Instead it is a laborious plod through samey corridors where sometimes being caught by the monster is preferable than having to perform the same objectives over and over again just to escape.
