Following the lead given from other Amusement Park Tycoons, Megaquarium starts small, and allows you to grow your fishy empire. You start with a small building, and only a few tank, and fish options to start your attraction off with. As you build and arrange you have several things to keep in mind, from accessibility of the tanks, to the needs of your fish. Can your guests see everything, do they pass all of the tanks as they walk your displays, and can your employees access all the tanks for maintenance? Flow is important, in and out of the tank, but in the tank is where the fun begins. Your fish all have requirements that must be met for them to grow big and healthy, and become prized attractions. Temperature, water flow, and decorations are just a few of the needs of your finned friends. Make sure to mind the temperament of your fish as well, or your prized fish may become dinner. With tons of Fish, tank and decor options you can make every play-through a new experience, trying to find the perfect flow for each location. The art style is cute, and colorful, lending a boisterous feel to game. Megaquarium is a fun and addictive game that will keep you elbow deep for hours, trying to create the ultimate Aquarium experience! Expand

What Megaquarium does best is offer a laid back relaxing sim experience on console without feeling too watered down (pun intended). You’re given the tools you need at a slow and steady pace without ever feeling overwhelmed. I wasn’t sure how a dedicated aquarium sim would be, but it’s got a lot of charm and really is quite a calming experience overall for fans of the genre.

Megaquarium on the Xbox One does an excellent job of presenting a sim management game on a home console, without dumbing down the abilities you have at your fingertips. Gameplay is fun and fair; it doesn’t offload hundreds of problems at you at once, meaning a much more casual experience.

While sim games are hardly rare, Megaquarium has a unique, charming spin on things that make it worth checking out. Some slight UI niggles aside, there’s enough charm and content here to give you a relaxing evening playing with the fishes.
