Beautiful hand-painted artwork and a compelling story that draws you in and lets you honestly care about the other characters.

I've read the critics reviews, and I understand the complaints about pacing and some of the choices offered. While I disagree, I love that the reviews read like they were reviewing this "game" less like a game and more like what it appears to be positioning
Beautiful hand-painted artwork and a compelling story that draws you in and lets you honestly care about the other characters.

I've read the critics reviews, and I understand the complaints about pacing and some of the choices offered. While I disagree, I love that the reviews read like they were reviewing this "game" less like a game and more like what it appears to be positioning itself as - a piece of art worthy of critical thought.

I do feel like Episode 2 tried to accomplish a lot in a short time, but it did so in a way that felt really honest. I'm sure we've all had that crazy day in our life where we almost can't believe how insane things got and how much happened by the end of it. The beauty in Life Is Strange as a whole and especially in Episode 2, for me, is that the more I try to think about it as if the characters were real, the more it all works. Sure, lots happened, but sometimes that really does happen. That's life, and nothing in the episode (other than time-travel powers) really felt so outrageous that I can't picture the day playing out exactly as described.

And like the plot, the characters benefit a lot from trying to imagine them as real. In the light of most video games, the actions of antagonists could almost have you picturing them in their evil lair plotting against Max, yet the developers were careful enough to insert enough human moments to remind you that (within the context of the story, anyway) these are real people with their own upbringing and motivations. In that light, the game plays almost like a good book or movie, while empowering you to (try to) do real good and see the results of your choices play out.

Overall with that in mind, I almost feel like the rating system typical of game reviews is insufficient. Life Is Strange deserves a critique, not a number. Since that's not how game reviews work though, I have to give it a full 10 as I feel the developers had a goal in mind and they knocked that goal out of the park. I can't wait for the next episode.

This episode 2 managed to beat the already beautifully done episode 1, which is quiet remarkable.
Once again the only drawback is the short play time, while at this episode we have one of the greatest endings in a video game in years. Amazing.

Simmers quietly but enjoyably, before boiling over in a tense final act. [June 2015, p.80]

Despite its generic title, “Out of Time” is the best episode yet of Life Is Strange. It increases the complexity Max’s life and the power she commands.

Best of all, Out of Time really sticks the landing. The finale is extremely emotional. I just hope for a more fleshed-out story in the remaining three episodes.
