To me it's always seemed that the best of the LEGO games had Star Wars in the title. That doesn't change with The Force Awakens. Not only is it a fantastic retelling of the movie, but also features plenty of original side-stories and content to make it an incredibly packed experience. There's also enough new additions to the standard LEGO formula to make for a fresh feeling game.To me it's always seemed that the best of the LEGO games had Star Wars in the title. Not only is it a fantastic retelling of the movie, but also features plenty of original side-stories and content to make it an incredibly packed experience. There's also enough new additions to the standard LEGO formula to make for a fresh feeling game.

Obviously though it's still very much what you would expect from a LEGO game. You'll build, collect, and replay levels to see everything. All the while you're being treated to some good humor and fantastic level design.

Most of the game's funniest moments come from the original stories. I was reminded just how serious the plot of the movie actually was. It's hard for the game to be funny when following the movie's plot so closely. As a result most of the game's attempts at making the material more lighthearted and funny is just having them hold food and stuff. There's really nothing funny in that. Still, it manages to squeeze some extra laughs from the movie and really brings the humor in it's side-content. Having the cast from the movie to reprise their roles is icing on the cake.

The game is packed with content. The amount of activities spread across it's various hub-worlds and the ability to replay the levels with different characters will keep you coming back long after you played through the story the first time. Using different character's abilities to find new secrets is just as addicting as ever.

As far changes to formula goes, it's admittedly there isn't much. However things like being able to have options to build multiple things with one pile of bricks, free-range space combat, and third-person cover shooting sections spice up the formula enough to make it feel fresh again. Or at least fresh enough to keep things fun.

All in all it's a content rich, excellently crafted, and wildly enjoyable game. One perfect for gamers of any age, as well as Star Wars and LEGO fans. The always appreciated drop-in, drop-out co-op means that you can share the fun with a friend. It's been a while since the LEGO series has made a Star Wars game. The Force Awakens reminded me of just what I have been missing. Hopefully we won't have to wait as long for these two series to pair up again, because The Force Awakens proves once again these two go together like Han and Chewie.

Finally a LEGO game that isn't trying to be more than it is. This game goes back to the basics and returns to a game that you can play for fun rather than having to be overly skilled or twitch happy. A great game for kids. There are issues though.

Bugs, lots of bugs. This game crashed quite a few times on me including 1 repeatable crash that required me to basically stop a level midway

Bugs, lots of bugs. This game crashed quite a few times on me including 1 repeatable crash that required me to basically stop a level midway and resume after a cut scene. Camera angles continue to be wonky as well. Another issue is with the flight controls. You can set the game to invert the controls but it reverts back if you put the console to sleep and return later. It still thinks the controls are inverted but in fact they aren't. Yet another issue I ran into a couple of times was getting stuck in the scenario. This mainly occurs when jumping and using a lightsaber at the same time. In a couple of cases the game refused to recognize certain actions and/or allow me to pick up a minikit. Reloading the game resolved the issue.

The hubs seem like fluff that could have been left off. The mini-games are not overly difficult and pretty much have you doing the same thing over and over again. At least there weren't any poor jumping puzzles. In fact TT has finally figured out they cannot do jumping right so they make it a button press now.

The vehicles fly better but are still picky. Fortunately the races are really generous on time so it is next to impossible to fail them.

This may be one of the best Lego games to date. Not only is the gameplay the best in the series, but it manages to be a fun and enjoyable ride throughout.

Visually it's gorgeous and it has the correct Star Wars aesthetic, the characters are fun, they're well animated, and the engine isn't showing any real kind of age. A smoothed out control system, better character switching, and a bunch of tweaks in vehicle control rounds out the whole package.

You can't really ask for more than that.

I put a lot of time into this game, clocked 100% and managed to accrue billions of studs. I've not been bored once, and I really did enjoy the various mini-games, side content, and the whole story unfolding through the Lego game style. I think Traveller's Tales have really knocked this one right out of the park, and it's an extremely engaging game - there's a wealth of Star Wars fun to be had and I think it might just be the best Lego game yet.

Nowhere near as strong as the previous Lego Star Wars videogames, but still well done enough to get the job done. You won't be compelled to get that 100% completion score, but you will have a good time.

Very bland game and not very interesting. Nowhere near as good as The Complete Saga and I’d honestly just rather watch the film.

Although LEGO Force Awakens is pretty unstable at times and has some questionable gameplay decisions, it's overall a great take and a fruitful attempt at creating a full LEGO game out of only one movie.

After hours of hair-splitting and nitpicking, the bottom line is that Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens just may be the best time I’ve had with a Lego title in years. Everything here is big, broad and loaded with replay value, and — unlike stormtrooper fire — will provide fans with a perfectly aimed blast of entertainment.

TT's most polished game in ages. Just give it a few films before the next one, yeah? [Sept 2016, p.74]

If you’re looking for a title that relies heavily on problem solving with some action mixed in, then definitely give this one a go.
