The presentation side of the game may not be perfect in some areas but I did enjoy the quirky charm that both the visuals and sound design had. I enjoyed collecting each of my allies to help me along the way because it does give the gameplay a unique spin on things. There’s not a great deal of depth when it comes to the gameplay but I found the side scrolling shooting elements to be done well and they were fun as well. They’ve done a good job of catering to a wide arrange of skill levels and the different difficulty settings does give the game some replay ability. The bosses and enemies lacked in terms of variety and nothing much stood out within them. In terms of content the game doesn’t have much for you to get to grips with and you’ll probably complete this in just a few short hours.
While fun in short play sessions it does get repetitive and the level design doesn’t do anything to ease the repetitiveness. Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story is in a genre that’s definitely overcrowded but I don’t mind that because I love a good shoot-em-up. Thankfully for the most part this game is a good shoot-em-up but it isn’t the best game I’ve ever played in this genre and it doesn’t really do anything that will blow you away either. That being said it does get the most important aspect spot on, which is of course its shooting mechanics. When in full flow the game is pretty fun and in a way collecting each of your allies does give the game meaning which definitely makes you want to carry on. This is a good thing as well because it does allow you to look past the repetetiveness that sets in pretty quickly. In terms of content the game won’t keep you occupied for long and I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the lack of variety present in the content. Thankfully though the difficulty settings do give the game a little bit of replaybility and these settings also mean that gamers with all skill levels can join in as well. At the end of the day then even though Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story gets some things wrong it still manages to be enjoyable and fans of this particular genre will definitely get something out of this game.

Lazy Galaxy: Rebel Story fails to truly build upon any of its interesting ideas. There’s fun to be had, but these moments of excitement are oftentimes short lived due to the game’s play-it-safe formula. I don’t doubt that this will please die-hard fans of the shmups, but if you’re looking for the genre’s next big thing, this isn’t it. Lazy Galaxy is, at best, just another substandard bullet-hell adventure.
