Jotun is one of those games, like Dragon's Lair before it, that has an incredible art style and great aesthetic. The design cuts through the whole game with various larger-than-life characters, fantastical locations, and scenes pulled right out of Norse mythology. The design cuts through the whole game with various larger-than-life characters, fantastical locations, and scenes pulled right out of Norse mythology. Such as the World Serpent chewing on Yggdrasil's roots as you explore the roots of the great tree. It is however sparse, and like Thora herself, there's not a lot of world building going on with her, or around her. Unlike say, Hyper Light Drifter that's packed with all sorts of tiny details. It's a minor thing, but I'd have liked to see more detail go into the map design in some of the places.

It's a good package, worth the money, and definitely needs to be in the collection of any dedicated action-adventure fan.

A Viking themed action game where you play as a female Viking trying to fulfill a destiny after death.

    Pros:
    - Cool boss fights throughout especially the dwarves battle
    - The upgrades were well done

    Cons:
    - Took me forever to figure out the map, the pause screen map could of been better
    - You felt slow throughout
    - Really the game was basically 6 boss fights

It's heavy going at times, but the imposing sweep of Jotun's world is Asgard as it gets. [Nov 2016, p.79]

Jotun isn’t a long game by any means, but it packs in a lot. The diverse environments are beautiful, the boss fights are expertly designed, and Norse mythology is just cool. It also tells a personal story that makes the ride all the more enjoyable.

Jotun: Valhalla Edition feels like the product of ambitious artists and sound designers who had a vision for their world and executed it nigh-flawlessly. Unfortunately, this simply serves to drive home just how mundane the gameplay is. In essence, Jotun as a video game feels more like a vehicle to deliver the artistic talents of its developers. Every element is passable, but the memorable moments all come from artistic achievements, not strong gameplay design.
