    A decent and intriguing story is a very important aspect of a game because when a game has a story that’s worthwhile it makes me enjoy the game more and ultimately it makes me want to complete it. Don’t get me wrong there are obviously other important aspects as well to make a game successful but the story is one of the first things I look for. Thankfully Illusion: A Tale of the Mind has aA decent and intriguing story is a very important aspect of a game because when a game has a story that’s worthwhile it makes me enjoy the game more and ultimately it makes me want to complete it. Don’t get me wrong there are obviously other important aspects as well to make a game successful but the story is one of the first things I look for. Thankfully Illusion: A Tale of the Mind has a very good story for you to sink your teeth into and whilst the game has a couple of shortcomings I was able to look past them because of its story. What really pleased me about this game is the amount of different emotions it makes you experience during your time with the game and without a doubt this made me enjoy my time with the game quite a bit more. In terms of the gameplay it’s a bit of a mixed bag. There are quite a few puzzles for you to get to grips with in the game and some of them were quite cleverly designed and thought-provoking. Unfortunately though the game just has too many puzzles that don’t make sense and in the end tackling these puzzles does become tedious due to the lack of variety and the repetetiveness they bring. They do however try to break up this repetetiveness by offering you some platforming sections, but unfortunately these sections fall a little short. The main reason why they fall short is because they’re not fun and the cumbersome and awkward movement of your character can be a real pain at times because you will undoubtedly die a few times because of this. The movement of the character is also not the only problem as well because the controls are fiddly from the get go and these end up making you even more frustrated. This is a shame because the level design in the game is excellent in my opinion and when you’re not dealing with the problems the game has traversing the levels is quite a lot of fun because each level has quite a lot of variety and creativity present. Another aspect of the game that has quite a lot of creativity and variety is the presentation side of the game, and without a doubt this was one of my favourite things about the game. Visually the game creates an atmosphere that ties in with the story extremely well and when the visuals and sound design combine together they end up providing you with a very immersive experience, which is great. At the end of the day if you like game’s that feature a very good story mixed in with some decent puzzles then you will really enjoy what Illusion: A Tale of the Mind has to offer. I myself enjoyed my time with the game and if it didn’t suffer with the few problems it has it would’ve got an higher score from me.… Expand

    I can’t shake the feeling that Illusion is in fact and old, abandoned game that got finished in all silence. It could explain why it’s technically and mentally so old-fashioned. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make the game a timeless classic but a bundle of unanswered expectations. 20 bucks is a way too steep asking price for what Illusion has to offer. Pick it up from a digital sale if you insist.

    The story is good, the characters are great and the visuals of the world will make you want to succeed on through until the very end. The gameplay in regards the puzzles is excellent, but all the other elements – the running, checkpoints, and pacing – very much let it down.

    Yes, Illusion: A Tale of the Mind looks great and it has some good ideas. But that’s almost all it has to offer. Its puzzles are way too easy, and just moving can be frustrating.
