2019 style Metroid anyone? I really enjoyed the presentation side of the game because both the visuals and sound design have a modern style with a retro feel combined within them. I really enjoyed the presentation side of the game because both the visuals and sound design have a modern style with a retro feel combined within them. The controls have been implemented really well and by making them tight and responsive throughout it means it stays fun for longer with not much frustration. There is a decent amount of weapons and different equipment you can use during your time with the game and each weapon feels and reacts very nicely. When played with friends the game is an incredible amount of fun and without a doubt the platforming elements truly shine when played this way. There isn’t a great deal of variety when it comes to the enemies you have to face in the game which can make defeating them a little repetitive. I found the level design to be a little too linear and once you’ve seen one level you’ve basically seen them all. The controls and platforming elements have been done well it still would’ve been nice to have been allowed more freedom when it comes to movement within the levels themselves and less crowding of the play area. If you like killing aliens with a group of friends then you will definitely love what Hive Jump brings to the table because after all this is basically what this game is about and that’s not a bad thing at all. The reason it’s not a bad thing is because they’ve done this aspect really well and even though it would’ve been nice to have have had a little more freedom when it came to movement the platforming elements are spot on in my opinion. Another thing that is spot on are the controls which remain tight and responsive at all times with no problems to speak of. In fact the game doesn’t have too many problems at all and the only real shortcomings come in the form of a lack of varied enemies and level design which isn’t too much of a problem if you don’t play the game for too long. When played in short bursts then you’ll find a great deal of enjoyment within this game and trying out each different weapon always feels satisfying, which is another plus point. At the end of the day then Hive Jump is a simple to understand game that focuses on delivering fun to you and your friends. This then means recommending Hive Jump to you is quite easy because if you like these type’s of game’s I have no doubt that you’ll return back to this game time and time again. Thumbs up! Expand

I was quite surprised by how good of a title this was. While seemingly simple, Hive Jump gives all the tools for you to have a great time doing the repetitive missions. Each idea created was well done, and I found myself wondering what really could have made it better. The one thing I felt truly missing was the online cooperative. I just never got a chance to play it how it was probably meant to be played. Luckily, as a singleplayer experience it still holds its own and doesn’t leave you wondering how you’ve ended up having no real-life gamer friends. Hive Jump won’t astonish you but it will be something you can enjoy spending a lot of time on.

While the RTS elements feel a bit redundant at times, and the soundtrack has little variation, Hive Jump’s gameplay is what will keep you coming back. It may not be a ‘Master of All’, but it is a great homage to many series that warrants the $9.99 it asks for.
