Gun Crazy on Xbox One is very predictable and many of the events feel scripted to happen in a certain way each time, so after a few playthroughs there won’t be any surprises. However, for people who like to challenge themselves and can’t rest until they beat their previous score, this is a good little game. But fair warning - after a couple of playthroughs, the main emotion behind replaying the game may be spite.

This is a simple fast past side-scrolling shooter that holds a fair amount of challenge. For those who need a no-nonsense shooter then this could be a quick pick me up. Really skilled players might breeze through it though and it may not hold enough replay value. If the annoying scream doesn’t bug you when you die, you might get some value out of this bright arcade retro shooter.

Gun Crazy is a pixel-art stylized, fast paced, action filled, side scrolling shooting game where you run n’ gun your way through stagesGun Crazy is a pixel-art stylized, fast paced, action filled, side scrolling shooting game where you run n’ gun your way through stages swarmed full of enemies and huge bosses that require you to put your days of arcade yester-year hand eye coordination to the test. Gun Crazy opts to keep its control schemes in check with this timeless formula by shooting, jumping, double jumping, and dashing through the game. Its randomized play and pixelated graphical style is colorful and breathes life to a world that is mostly obscure and simple. Where Gun Crazy separates itself from other games in this style, is how the levels work. Though a side-scrolling shooter, many levels will have you traveling vertically as well, battling off the hordes of enemies that constantly fire a range of color filled beams or bullets in your direction. One minute you’re riding on top of your cop car, the next jumping and dashing to avoid incoming attacks while the car remains beneath. The more enemies I destroyed the more health and ammo variety I was able to find. Collecting the ammo types immediately changed the type of bullets I could fire but they are limited depending on the type of weapon equipped. The option to switch between guns would have been nice but this is the same format many will remember from their days of Contra or Metal Slug. However unlike the aforementioned games the difficulty is far easier on the whole. The game is a little too basic and simplistic for its own good but this is a value priced game we’re speaking of after all. At the end of the day Gun Crazy is an easy game to jump into. Though it’s lacking n terms of level design and the overall necessities of feeling up to date in todays standards, it's the frantic pace and boss battles that will keep you coming back for more. Ratalaika has brought many games of this nature to the Xbox gamers of this generation and they always pack a punch overall for low price of admission formula that achievement gamers always crave more of.
