The easy to pick up and play style makes the gameplay fun and not too taxing which means gamers of all ages can play and enjoy this game. I found the presentation side of the game to be simple yet effective and both the visuals and sound design carry some charm within them. I found the presentation side of the game to be simple yet effective and both the visuals and sound design carry some charm within them. In my opinion the game is best enjoyed when played with friends or family and when played this way the game does offer you a little bit in terms of replayability. The story mode could’ve been a little more challenging I must admit that I enjoyed what was included in this particular mode. It would’ve been nice to have been able to make the game more challenging because it’s far too easy for the most part. In terms of content the game doesn’t offer you a huge amount and this means you won’t return back to the game as much as you would’ve liked. There isn’t a great deal of variety present in both the characters and the power-ups you can use in the game. Sometimes it’s nice to sit back and take in a nice relaxing and steady puzzle game (I particularly really enjoy puzzle games), and that’s exactly what Gem Smashers offers you. This style however may be off-putting for some because there’s no challenge really present in the game and this may make the gameplay boring for some. Whilst I would’ve liked the game to be more challenging as well it still didn’t stop me from enjoying the easy to pick up and play style because I could enjoy the game with my children. In fact playing with others is the best way to enjoy this game because it isn’t as fun when playing on your own due to the lack of variety present in both the characters and power-ups available to you. In terms of content the game doesn’t have a huge amount for you to get to grips with and you may find yourself getting bored quite quickly which is a shame because I did actually quite enjoy the story mode. At the end of the then even though Gem Smashers is far from perfect and it does have a few shortcomings it still does just enough to get a small recommendation from me because it does offer you a fun and enjoyable time when played with friends and family. Gem Smashers fails to build on its otherwise decent core mechanic, ultimately making for a game that feels well out of its depth alongside its more sophisticated and robust peers. It doesn’t help that it’s just far too easy for its own good, which isn’t an ideal characteristic for any puzzle game to bear. Fun at first, indeed, but its lack of both innovation and depth massively holds it back from its potential.
