    Easy 8 out of 10 in 2023. Yes, I have just started playing Gears series, but this game delivers everything right. Design is great and unique, music and sound is exceptional, gameplay is great looking back 10 years ago. All in all absolutely genuine product without any overflows.

    Buen remake. Supongo que el sistema de coberturas en su día fue revolucionario. No tengo claro que fuera el primero. En todo caso, intenso y variado en sus modos de contenidos.

    This is my very first Gears of War game. The game looks and feels amazing, it has some breathtaking views and atmospheric locations. This is not a game that you play for the story (cause there is no one) but just to relax and have some fun with friends.

    Um bom Gears, divertido e bem feito. A dublagem é muito boa e o Marcus é bem marcante. A jogabilidade é boa, mas poderia ser melhor. Gráficos excelentes e trilha sonora bem boa.

    Bom remaster. Manteve a estrutura do original. Jogabilidade excelente, uma das melhores da categoria. Ambientes fantásticos que proporciona imersão na campanha. É um jogo obrigatório pra todo dono de XBOX e/ou fã de TPS.

    My first GOW game, and I am happy I decided to give gears games a go. Absolutely loved every minute of it, and played through the campaign in almost a single sitting over the weekend. Absolutely one of the most entertaining shooter I've played in a long time.

    -Story was fairly simple & boring
    -Characters were all pretty one dimensional
    -Friendly A.I. is atrocious, which makes it extremely hard to play solo
    -Enemies are bullet sponges and they all focus on the player and not the A.I.
    -Enemies often have one to two shot weapons which create frustrating encounters where it's not about skill as much as it is about luck, since the friendly A.I. won't help
    -Boss fights are a joke & rage inducing because of the problems listed above
    -Art style is pretty bland (black/grey trend of early 2000's games)
    -Soundtrack is pretty forgettable for the most part

    Overall, I would not recommend it if you're planning on playing it by yourself, unless you stick with the lower difficulties (which I did not unfortunately) or if you like to play games that make you feel bad about yourself.
    Gears of War: Ultimate Edition feels tedious, frustrating and a new form of torture, carried only by its solid gameplay.    … Expand

    Very amusing game, that doesn't take the genre too seriously. Well balanced, good action, great graphics, very do-able for a player like me that is not a great shooter. But best of all: a game filled with nice, big chunk-a-chunks of men candy!

    This is a great remaster/remake of the original GOW. If the frame rate was better it would make the game even more enjoyable (and I would of given it a 10). It is a great way for the newer generation to get into gears.

    This game is still pretty good but i can not notice any changes from the original except for the fact that the graphics are way better. The game is still good but i don't know the difference and i regret buying Ultimate Edition because i could just play the old title.

    A great remaster of a fantastic game, the game has stunning visuals and excellent gunplay with a very interesting world. The story is a little weak and the AI can be very dumb at times but overall it's a great game that still holds up well.

    Was enjoying this game from the beginning until the end. Actually, it was my first game on XBOX one. I have always wanted to try this game but was not able to due to my PC specification and when the original was released I did not have XBOX 36O as well. Therefore, as soon I got XBOX ONE I got XBOX Game Pass and this beauty was my first game. Was enjoying the single-player campaign and the combat.

You die pretty easily. The game has a lot of difficult spikes. It has a bad pacing and lots of bugs. For the most part you have to be lucky. Not smart, not fast, not good, just lucky.     Damn! The entire game is a mess.
    I don't know why was so praised.
    I did play a little of Gears 5 and it's the same **** How come!?

Кстати говоря, одним из достоинств GOW является возможность прохождения кампании на одном экране да хоть вчетвером. Хотя в виду ограниченности вида в совместном прохождении нужен такой нехилый размер экрана. Выглядит Gears of War по сегодняшним меркам действительно неплохо, хотя конечно действие половины миссий в основном происходят в городских руинах которые не требовательны к ресурсам визуальным, но при этом мы также спустимся под землю, покатаемся по ночному городу на Армадилло, отбиваясь от бесчисленных стай криллов, порубимся с саранчой на мчащемся поезде да и миссия на заводе в проблесках молний и под дождем весьма приятно порадует глаз. По визуальной части всё годно, решили. Хотя конечно можно было что-то сделать с разрушаемостью объектов, которая в GOW практически нулевая, отрегулировать огонь из оружия, который не ощущается как естественный, да и реакция противников на него какая-то из крайности в крайность неоднозначная - то с первого выстрела из дробовика в упор уродец вражеский даже не почешется, а после второго он внезапно распадается на прекрасный суповой набор. От штурмовой винтовки тоже не сказать чтобы получаешь большой восторг, ну разве что от распиливания ей зазевавшихся локустов, которые входят слишком в плотный контакт с нашим протагонистом. Да, наш Лансер оснащён бензопилой и это действительно находка. Сам же набор оружия не просто странный, а как по мне весьма неудачный. Получается, что у нас по сути 4 ячейки для арсенала, что казалось бы и неплохо, но одна из них железно под пистолет, которым мы за всю игру не воспользуемся ни разу, вторая под гранаты, которыми мы конечно будем пользоваться, но они как бы занимают целую ячейку, в которую мы ничего кроме гранат не засунем, вот и получается что у нас остается два слота для штурмовухи и дробовика, а ведь есть еще снайперка, миномет, арбалет и молот зари - для них явно не хватает отдельного места и приходится пользоваться ими весьма эпизодически. Геймплей в GOW не сказать чтобы сильно увлекательный, никаких тебе прокачек персонажа, из лута только патроны. Только и остаётся, что бегать и крошить монстров, подбирая за ними оружие и запасы снарядов...… Expand

I'd never even played a gears game before this one, and my GOD was this a great start. It looks great even now, and the game itself- It's so good. The story is the worst in gears history, no doubt. Not that it's bad, it's just every other game made me cry (Excluding gears 4, but that was still awesome). I don't think an amazing story was needed in this game, so it didn't lessen the experience for me. But there's one thing that did. The **** blind monolith guy who you fight like 3 times and it's always AWFUL. But besides that, 10/10. With it, hard 9.… Expand

    This game is basically just a 1080p version of the old game. Still the same bugs, and same mediocre story. Gun play is of course awesome. If you're playing on the highest difficulty, the game can become a bit frustrating. But otherwise a solid way to kick off the Gears of War series.

While i haven't tried the multiplayer in this version, the nostalgia of the campaign reminded me of why i fell in love with the series in the first place.     The original game on the 360 is one of my favorite games of all time and when Xbox announced they were going to release the game again with upgraded graphics and new levels (levels seen in the PC version) I got super excited. That excitement did not disappoint, the Ultimate Edition is truly a fantastic and the best version of Gears of War. The graphics are gorgeous and the new added levelsThe original game on the 360 is one of my favorite games of all time and when Xbox announced they were going to release the game again with upgraded graphics and new levels (levels seen in the PC version) I got super excited. That excitement did not disappoint, the Ultimate Edition is truly a fantastic and the best version of Gears of War. The graphics are gorgeous and the new added levels makes the story feel more whole but I can also see why it was taken out of the 360 version. I wouldn't mind seeing the next two games in the original trilogy remade like this because that would be Day 1 buys for me.     Gears of war: Ultimate edition is a really good action game. It has loads of frenetism and action , so you'll have a lot of fun playing this title. In addition, it has five chapters, what means that is longer than other games of the franchise and the fun will last more.
    As a remaster, in one hand we have the graphics and the performance in the Xbox one, which both are great; the game has    Gears of war: Ultimate edition is a really good action game. It has loads of frenetism and action , so you'll have a lot of fun playing this title. In addition, it has five chapters, what means that is longer than other games of the franchise and the fun will last more.
    As a remaster, in one hand we have the graphics and the performance in the Xbox one, which both are great; the game has jumped perfectly to this generation. But in the other hand, there's one thing that should have been fixed... And that's the AI, which is one of the worse ones i've ever seen. This ruins the gameplay experience many times (especially if we play in a high difficulty)
    However, despite this issue, it's a pretty enjoyable game that i'd widely recommend to anyone who is searching for an action game.    … Expand

    This game is PERFECT. Still to this day after Gears 5 still the best Gears of War game made for Xbox One. Remember when Gears of War required skill? The addition of Team Deathmatch to G1 was the best thing to happen to Gears since GoW 3 released. Campaign is amazing also.

It also includes levels that had been previously exclusive to the PC port. While the game feels dated, the developers have done a great job of upgrading it to a next-gen console. The newly remade cutscenes look great and"Gears of War: Ultimate Edition" for the Xbox One is what "Halo: Anniversary Edition" was to the Xbox 360; a remaster featuring overhauled visuals and new features. It also includes levels that had been previously exclusive to the PC port. While the game feels dated, the developers have done a great job of upgrading it to a next-gen console. The newly remade cutscenes look great and improve upon what was shown in the original release. In-game graphics have also been upscaled to 1080p and the campaign now features scattered collectibles that unlock panels from the GOW comic book. Additionally, drop in/drop out cooperative play is now an option.

    The Ultimate Edition includes every multiplayer map ever made for the original game and the framerate for competitive play has been increased to 60 frames per second. Furthermore, "Team Deathmatch" and "King of the Hill" are newly added modes. So if you've never played "Gears" before, then this remaster is the best way to experience it. But even if you have, you'll probably still enjoy this upgrade. There's nothing quite like this series. It's fast and brutal and can be a lot of fun with friends. While the franchise has evolved and improved considerably, this first installment is still worth revisiting in upgraded form. I'd rate it with an 8.2 out of 10.    … Expand

    So.. how do improve it in the "ULTiMaTe eDiTioN" ?! , simple make everything the same but change only the good things the game had -_-
    Sadly, I was late for this party as well, as I started playing the game on PC in 2018.
    Luckily I still remember well my childhood with this game (this was one of my favorite series after all).
    So I can still give my critic on things that were NOT fixed.

    Lets begin, shall we ?
    - Movement is the same as it was in GoW1. If you played the other titles chances are you know that they improved VASTLY from GoW1 to GoW2 in movement. This game , as a "remaster", decided to of course leave the clunky movement.
    * You ofter get stuck in wall trying to roll out of it.
    * Delayed input due to 3 actions can be performed (which was improved in 2-4)
    * AI friends is dump and the "command" system pretty much is useless
    * The enemy AI is annoying as I remember them. Often times the pop out of cover when your obviously not aiming at them.
    * And the stupid tilted aiming is brought to GoW1 even thou it wasn't (try aiming your sniper at an enemy's head, and when he shoots first, your aim is "tilted". This was not in GoW1 but why not put it anyway. But implement the movement from GoW2 ? NAH who needs it , RIGHT ? FU)
    * Also, how come they couldn't implement a split screen in 2016 ? Like back in 2006 and it was released for PC I could forgive, but for the "Ultimate Edition" to NOT feature in again in the same god damn platform ? FU guys (lets not forget GoW4 has split screen... but for campaign only -_- )

    I finished the game on hardcore and never touched it again because the online in PC is dead and no cross platform, so **** me, right ?

    The gameplay has not aged, it is still very addictive as well as attractive. Graphics are okay, but I've noticed the physics are still from the previous generation. The ambientation is really good, in fact, sometimes there are some parts that it looks like Dead Space. Of course without being a survival horror.

    Fun, but pretty repetitive towards the end. Although the story isn't that good, the first 2 acts are fun and exciting. But by the end it kind of starts to show its repetitive nature.

    Nine years after it's original release, Gears of War has had a major graphical buff and been brought onto the next gen hardware of Xbox One. And it's still awesome. The gunplay is still tight, the story is still good, and the multiplayer is still a blast. And the new added content is a nice addition also.

The first is the story is the same with better graphics, which I think is too short and not really coherent even as a fan of the series that acknowledges plot issues.

    The multiplayer is a half measure forward overall, the 60 fps and dedicated servers is really nice, but the inclusion of skin camos and microtransactions made the Ultimate Edition start to become Not Ultimate for my time and money invested in it. Locking on targets was a trend started in Gears 3 and it is in the remaster mp, but yet not the more smoother and more gratifying mechanics that 3 did so well at. It felt as stiff as the original, which vet Gear fans will like but for newcomers that want to experience the game this can be seen as a hassle and couple this with the lingering toxic competitive community and you can expect the game to fall apart (as it did) within the first couple months.

    While I appreciate the try, Gears of War Ultimate Edition doesn't really make a splash that will entice newcomers. It struggles with the modern times of how smooth and great shooters can be and Ultimately feels a retread of its roots rather than a true remaster. If this was a remaster of Gears 1, 2 and 3, then this would have been far more worth the price. Still a good game, but many of the old headaches return.    … Expand

The human kind didn't like that so what better way to destroy the monsters that are    I've never played the Gears of War games, mostly because I never had an Xbox 360, but now with Ultimate Edition I can finally say what I think of this game...and boy do i have things to say.

    STORY: One day and without any warning monsters suddenly appeared out of nowhere and starting to rekt our sh*t. The human kind didn't like that so what better way to destroy the monsters that are trying to destroy your civilization...than by shooting down some lasers and destroy the civilization yourself?

    You play as a prisoner named Marcus Fenix. This guy was originally a soldier, but due to some sort of betrayal Marcus was sent to prison. But after some events that are never shown Marcus gets out of prison and along with the help of other soldiers and the "Control" Marcus has the objective to basically do whatever task the higher ups gives to his team and kill some monsters.

    That's a really abridge version of the plot, but that's because there's not that much going on in the story. Plot points like Marcus's father are never revealed, character interactions never lead to anything and overall it doesn't explain anything about the world we live in. It is a TPS where you shoot f*ckers with a shotgun, so I don't expect anything grand for the story, but if you're gonna introduce plot points at least explain them or do something with them...ANYTHING! But *sigh* I guess that's why we have sequels.

    PRESENTATION: When people say this is a "sloppy remaster" I get honestly confused. Ultimate Edition not only upscales de resolution, but also reworks the graphical aspect from the ground up and the result is a game that might as well have been from this generation of consoles.

    My biggest problem with GOW in the 360 was the rather dull and uninspired color pallet, I get that it's a War setting, but I'm pretty sure that the real world has more colors than f*cking grey! Ultimate Edition still doesn't have a varied color pallet, but it is a heck of alot more detailed and colorful than the original ever was, especially in the later half of the game.

    Character models, lighting effects, animations, textures, cutscenes, environments, everything looks TONS better than the original Xbox 360 version...however it does come at a cost. While the game looks good I feel like they could've toned down those graphics, if it meant that the game would run at 60fps. Just like I said in my R&C review, shooters are ALWAYS better with a high frame rate and it's disappointing that Ultimate Edition doesn't do this, 30fps doesn't completely ruin the game, but it does make the gameplay feel less smooth and tight, especially when the game starts to chug when there's too much stuff happening at once. I am happy that Microsoft actually putted some effort here instead of simply upsacling the resolution (looking at you God Of War 3 Remastered), but I still would've preferred 60fps over shiny visuals.

    I'll just get this out of the way and say that sadly the music, while fitting for the moments of gameplay, was honestly forgettable and bland. And don't say to me that shooters can't have catchy music, because DOOM's theme song still exists.

    GAMEPLAY: I wasn't expecting much in terms of the mechanics, seeing how this is one of the first TPS games out there and a 2006 TPS at that, but surprisingly not only do the mechanics still hold up, but they're among the best shooter mechanics I've ever seen, even compared to games of today, they're so good in fact that I consider them nearly perfect!

    The core gameplay is this: You run with the A button and take cover automatically when you run into something, you point with the left trigger, shoot with the right one, you can shoot without aiming, you switch weapons with the D-Pad, do melee with B, recharge with another trigger and give orders with another trigger, which I'll explain in a sec. This may sound very basic, and to be honest it is, however what makes this gameplay so especial is in the little things.

    To recharge you don't only press a button, but you also gotta time it just right so that it recharges faster, not only to shoot, but also chainsaw enemies to death with the same weapon. Everything feels fast and kinetic in this game and I love more because of it.

    Tho one complain I do have is with the variety, or lack thereof. The mechanics are fun, but I recommend playing this in short burst, because it will get repetitive in a few hours. All you do for 95% of the game is shoot with barely anything to shake it up and that's honestly a very big flaw right there.

    Boss battles do require some strategy, but they don't do much, and figuring out how to defeat them is not really that hard, but they are at least a bit more than just bullet sponges.

    I could go on and on with the rest of the features of the game, but at this point I said everything I wanted to say. Overall this game, while not perfect, it's still a good time and a good investment if you have a Xbox One.

    A nice remaster with some additional content for long time Gears fans. It's not hard to see why those levels were cut from the original game in the first place, but they still add some extra depth to the campaign that anyone into the series will appreciate.

Your allies will constantly stand in a group outside of cover and die. Playing on a harder difficulty will just result in deaths unrelated to skill, just the gameplay itself. If you try to fall back, one of your stupid friends will be idly standing behind you, preventing you from retreating. These developers shamelessly gave us a game that involves seriously untweaked AI. The locusts have no fear, so it's understandable that they'll come at you with their balls out. The characteristics of the hive played well with the limitations of 2006. As for your allies, there is no excuse for this day and age. These developers took a ten year old game off the shelf, simply polished it, and sold it again. If you want to feel like a special ed teacher guiding his/her students through the apocalypse, this game is for you.… Expand

    The graphics look great, and aside from very minor glitches that I found the game was well polished, and the audio was great as always. They made some minor gameplay changes that appeared in later games, but just enough so it didn't feel like a completely different game.

    My only disappointment is a lack of game modes and extras. I think if they added score attack from Gears 3, some of the cool multiplayer game modes from later games then I would probably raise it to a 9. Otherwise, it is still great, especially since it was only $40. It is cheaper now, so even with Gears 4 coming out I would recommend it for any fans or people just wanting a fun third person shooter.    … Expand

    Graficos y multijugador increibles!!!! a pesar de ser un remasterizado y de tener años que salio originalmente en la xbox 360 la pasas genial con las partidas en linea, como todo juego llega a tener algun error pero eso no quita lo bueno que es.

    esse jogo é um presente para os fãs, esqueci os aspectos tecnicos, pois gears of war marcou a geracão e jogar esse jogo de 2006 com gráficos refeitos nao tem preço, é uma experiência unica.

    Turned an already perfect game into an even more perfect remaster. Not only does the game run at a smooth 60fps and 1080p, the graphics also look amazing. With added content not in the original and all new completely re-rendered cut-scenes, the game should be worth more than the $50 release price. 10/10

    O gráfico do jogo é bem bonito, combate muito bom, história achei meio fraca, mas melhora muito durante a trilogia, algumas partes fica um pouco repetitivas, mas por conta dos varios combates rapidos e intensos essa sensação logo passa. Vale a pena quem tem um Xbox One comprar esse jogo pois é muito bom.

    Remaster épico! Sem dúvidas o melhor jogo de toda franquia. Joguei o original no lançamento lá em 2006 no saudoso xbox 360. Naquela época foi um divisor de águas e a versão remaster não poderia ser menor que a versão original. Gráficos lindos e mantiveram fielmente a ótima jogabilidade. O melhor jogo do Xbox One.

    Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a near perfect remaster of the original. It would be hard not to recommend this to a gears fan, as everything from the original is here, along with some updated visuals and gameplay tweaks.

    Gears of War UE came with my Xbox One. I've actually never played Gears of War on the 360. I played Gears of War 2 and really enjoyed it. For me the game play seems old, the graphics are really good. And there have been a couple of times in the game where I've been wowed. Sadly I've had the game for 4 months and I still haven't finished the campaign because it just doesn't interest meGears of War UE came with my Xbox One.     Muy buen juego y remaster, va muy fino y vicia que da gusto, para mi es el mejor de la saga, aun que ya hayas jugado la version de xbox 360 sigue valiendo la pena.

    It's an HD edition that fully respects the importance of the original game for the tps genre. It's a technically sound restyle that maintains the content of the original without trying to revolutionize it. It's impressive how well the game has aged, really.

    Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition definitely belongs in that upper tier; its campaign no longer carries the industry-shaping impact it once had but it remains tremendous fun, while its multiplayer is still dramatic, unique and engaging, perhaps even more so now given the final touches The Coalition has added. As was the case back in 2006, come for the campaign and stay for the multiplayer – you’ll be glad you did.
