Still unplayable unless in private match even then drops are appalling . Extremely disappointing. I was looking forward to playing this game, except as of current feel cheated out of my hard earned 40+ dollars.

Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. I knew I should have waited for DBD or Agony. I don't even care if they fix this, my excitement for the game has completely vanished. One of the most broken games to be released for $40. Broken matchmaking, frequent disconnects, unreasonable banning, and stupid mechanics (skinny teenagers in the 80s can only run for 3 seconds until they run out of stamina). This game is only worth $20 at most. Go for Dead by Daylight if you want a similar, but much more fair send refined, game

Apparently the devs have gone on a banning spree against some people who "say mean things" in the game voicechat. As if the game wasn't PEGI 18+, as if the game wasn't about murdering people, as if the game characters didn't have a vocabulary consisting of more than 50% of curse words.
A murder game sure isn't the first place I'd think of to build a safe space...

Even after maintenance on the servers I am still being kicked in virtually every game, meaning I am not gaining any exp. Theres also a ton of bugs still ingame such as not being able to purchase perks/other various glitches. If they fix the servers and I can start to complete matches without constantly being kicked I'll raise my score to a 6. If then after they fix the other glitches/bugs I'll raise it to a 8, but as it stands as of now on 30/05/17, given that I cannot either get into games or stay in games once in, its only worth a 4 star rating! (As I say tho, if the devs can fix the servers and the bugs properly then I'll edit this to be a 8 star as the game is fun as hell, when I am able to actually play the thing)!

A week or two delay could have fixed most of this. A soft launch/extended beta also could have fixed things.

Patches should be coming this week (5/30/2017), but I don't know that for sure, or that it'll fix everything. I'm out $40 and now at the mercy of these developers to follow through on their promises.

This is unacceptable I understand its crowd funded by a half ass studio, but to launch with no match making, and even when you join a private match 2 out of every 3 games crashes and you get no credit for the match. I just hope no one else pisses away their money on this game.

Gun Media did an amazing job recreating what would be the last 20- 25 minutes of a Friday the 13th film with the way that Jason and the counselors behave. But there are three problems holding this game back. Two are fixable and one is not.

#1. Matchmaking sucks right now. Matchmaking and servers are currently worse than Elder Scrolls Online were at launch. Its impossible to find a game. You have to look for a party on the game page hud to find a game and even then it usually doesn't launch right.

#2. Bugs Bugs galore. If it does launch then you'll be lucky that everything works correctly. One time I couldn't swing my axe or use my special abilities as Jason. Completely ruins the game.

    and the unfixable
#3. The community for this game is even more toxic than a Call of Duty game. it's launch weekend and the kiddies are already being jerks to each other. I played through one game and had to quit because people were being absolute butt pirates to a dude who was playing his first match and just happened to get picked to play Jason with no idea as to what he was doing or how Jason's powers work or anything of that nature. I cant stand toxic game communities. Buy this game on computer instead of xbox one if you have the chance.

As I said, two of the three can be fixed. My score will probably change as time goes on

The tone comes off as frantic when playing the counselors, though very cat and mouse as opposed to the straight forward shooting frenzy that Evolve would build to in matchmaking.

You scavenge for parts to help you escape but, GASP, there isn't enough space for EVERYBODY!? This mechanic was actually kind of nice, and it speaks volumes that they built an asymmetrical multiplayer system where it doesn't take perfect teamwork to succeed (because lets face it, that doesn't happen with public matchmaking).

On the side of Jason, you feel like an unstoppable killing machine. In this sense it is VERY similar to Evolve, however instead of being on the defensive from the start you simply build up to your more insane powers the longer the match drags on. It's probably the thing that works best, and its a true joy to play as the iconic killer when your turn comes up.

However that is infrequent (random selection and chances are 1/8) so settle in for some horrible facial animations because every counselor has them and you'll be playing them A LOT. Seriously, one of the first orders of business should be a boss mode style match, where its Jason V Jason V Jason or something, because as of right now the best part of the game is the smallest part of your play time with it.

This is a game you may want to wait on, but at the same time you risk never playing it while the community is thriving by doing so. Its tough to recommend a buy because while the formula is fun and works well, there just isn't much to it. There IS a surprising amount of progression and unlockables, which was a nice touch that I wasn't expecting, but its a thin veil for the lack of gameplay options.

Devs promise some good post release support, but have also mentioned several times that they were running into issues with console updates, so expect PC gamers to get the nod here for early content access, and perhaps even exclusive content.

Overall I'm a fan. The sound is good, the graphics are passable but there's nothing quite like the feeling that you're IN a Friday the 13th movie, frantically running for your life. A+ for the presentation, and by far the best game this movie has ever seen made in its honor. 7/10

Giving it a 5 is generous, because I don't see the majority of these issues being fixed.

Those that gave Andromeda lower scores should rethink themselves.

Just because this is in Indie developer, doesn't give them a free pass. We GAVE them our hard-earned money to make something good.

From some of the early reviews I have heard comments such as: it is only fun playing Jason and it is boring playing as a counselor, especially after you die! I found this completely untrue. Although I never got to play as the hockey masked villain I enjoyed working together with my team mates trying to survive. Even if you do end up dying, it is fun watching the other counselors and as you do so you may figure out a way to win the next time you play that particular map. The creators of this game did a great job balancing this game! Although Jason is extremely powerful (he is a horror icon after all) there is still a sense of hope that your group might be able to pull it off especially if everyone learns to work together. I have a feeling that Friday the 13th is going to become a cult classic that everyone is going to be playing for a long time to come. If all else fails, it is a great way to meet new people and have some killer fun. Expand

Each of them have to try and get to escape via boat, car or by the police or by hiding but this NEVER works. Jason has to salughter each of them in various gruesome ways by body parts, stabbing or others.

The game is clever as there is a good bit of strategy involved if you want to go it alone or work together all the while grabbing items trying to feebly stave off Jason from brutally murdering you.

That's the gist of the game and the detail in the game from the developers shows they care about it a lot (well at least they did but more on that later). The amount of nuggets and easter eggs in the game is amazing. There is also the single player with side missions and the head scratcher that is the virtual cabin.

Where the game lacks is the glitches there is some bugs that can ruin the game but they are very light now. The other thing is that despite the fact that it was meant to have more DLC on the way, the company has decided not to add the Grendal and Uber Jason despite the fact it was meant to be added.

Overall a solid 9/10, very enjoyable. November 2018 for a more up to date review.

your goal is to escape, survive or of course kill all of the councilors…
Every character has their own advantages and disadvantages.. Their own stats... the character you play as is random every match and you unlock more characters as you level up
Asa councilor you start with a flash light and nothing else…
you have a mini map but unless you find a map within the game that’s all you have to go off of
your goal is to find a nice hiding spot and wait for the timer to go out… call the cops, call in a shotgun wielding hunter character with 1 single bullet to do massive damage, or fix a car or boat and get out of there…
around the maps are houses with supplies to fix the phone or one of the cars on the map..
Attempting to do so will throw you into a quick time event where every precious second matters as Jason could be around any corner…
being cautious of your noise and fear level as this will make you easier to detect...
you can barricade doors and open windows for a quick escape, or even set traps for Jason if he comes smashing through one
there are also tons of weapons laying around, though none of them are a true threat to Jason..
Killing Jason is a possibility... but you’ll need to team up with the other councilors to do this, as you’re definitely not doing this on your own... Not even with the single use shotgun
weapons are mostly for rescuing other players or stunning Jason to escape...
And you can communicate with players using a mic once you find a walkie talkie within the game which is a cool twist
The fun part to me comes in the form of playing as Jason..
There are multiple Jason’s to unlock and Just like the counselors each has their own stats... their own strengths and weaknesses...
as the match goes on the stronger Jason gets…
at first you just have a map, then you unlock a fear censor to see characters running around, a teleportation ability which allows you to dash through the air to pop up right in front of a counselor, useful for catching up to cars and stopping them in their tracks, or catching back up with an enemy after they stun you.. a stalk ability that turns of audio cues that you’re near, and finally a rage mode towards the end of a match that buffs all of your abilities, allows you to run faster and smash down doors with ease…
and to kill la councilor you can grab and use a finisher, attack them with a melee weapon or do one of many environmental kills like throwing them through a window…
however I found that actually being Jason was far too rare even with him set as my preference I only got to play as him once every hr. and half, matches fly by when you’re the killer, but as the counselor they seem to drag on forever, made worse by the fact you have to stay and watch in case you’re randomly selected to come back in as the hunted character or if you want your xp at the end of the match..
Which awards you points to unlock a new random perk or finish for Jason...
you can attach these perks to your characters all with buffs and debuffs, and if you get one you don’t like you can sell it back to the game.. .
By biggest issue with this game however is its match making…
Creating matches takes a ridiculously long time… and that’s if you’re lucky enough to stay in a lobby without one of the frequent error connections…
once in game things are fine.. But actually getting into a game probes to be a bit of an issue on the PlayStation 4…
Friday the 13th is an entertaining game for a while... more so when you’re playing as Jason…
But constantly playing as counselors I started to get bored with the game fairly quickly, and the server issues left me feeling frustrated when I just wanted to get into a game and play…
I give Friday the 13 the game

Good, fitting soundtrack, sizable maps, variety of kills for Jason. Fairy large amount of customization and variety for counselors and Jason(s). Using the Xbox game hub yields hundreds of open private game lobbies that you can easily join, and fill up quickly. Broken matchmaking isn't a problem due to that feature, and does sometimes work. Launch problems are being addressed/fixed(many have been fixed, but many still exist). Planned single player update should come this summer, including single player bots but also a supposed campaign(The single player update is confirmed, but I couldn't find any credible source about its true content). $40 price tag instead of the usual $60

Cons: Limited amount of content means even $40 can be a bit high. Small chance to play as Jason(1/8), which sometimes seems unbalanced and can be around 1/10, 1/15 chance(although, if you stay in a lobby, and Jason is chosen at random, it will cycle through everyone). Relatively repetitive gameplay, which can prove to be very boring/frustrating if you're in a lobby with people who aren't talking/working together, and if you have to be a counselor for like 10 games in a row. Matchmaking is still mostly broken(but isn't a major issue honestly because of the private matches). Game does have some really bad connection issues, many people and even full lobbies routinely lag out, along with game crashes and freezes. This either ends the game, or kicks everyone out(meaning no experience reward at the end for anyone), and that really ruins/breaks the game. There are also a scattered amount of frustrating bugs/glitches, some of which can prove to be gamebreaking. And with so many issues at launch, there are no guarantees when any of these will be potentially addressed/fixed.

Overall: The game, despite the honest score, is still worth getting. While some issues are truly bad, I feel the fun of the game, along with their "generally uncommon" occurrence makes the game more enjoyable than frustrating. It should be noted that the developers have been consistently updating social media with news about the issues and fixes. Normally I would be very frustrated if another(normally big) developer had a game launch like this. But given this game's crowdfunded background, and the developers social contact and effort put into to discussing the problems and dealing with them, they can be forgiven, especially in the future. We can only hope they continue to support the game fully and fix it properly. If they do that, the game can have a very bright future. Review was done on 6/8/17.

While the heyday of the slasher film genre has passed, we were recently given the opportunity to don the guise of Jason to take on the dimwitted camp counselors he is known for murdering in the films. Does the game capture what made the films so amazing (or bad), making the murderer a household name? Let’s take a look.

There isn’t not much to this game, as it’s a simple PvP title with 1 player (randomly selected in a public game, although you can select or take turns in private matches) playing the role of Jason, with the remaining players (up to 7) taking the role of camp counselors. This is a timed game, where Jason must kill all of the other players before they escape using the various means available or the timer runs out. Playing as Jason is admittedly much more fun than playing as the machete fodder that the other players are doomed to use. You’ll use a number of super human abilities, such as warping around the map, disappearing and moving in an Evil Dead-esque style animation in first person, or even “seeing” sounds in the surrounding area. There are a few different options available with more that can be unlocked by progressing through the game’s overly grind-y XP system. The customization in the game offers the option to select from a number of different executions in the event you can grab one of the meat puppets running for their lives. Not limited to just the ones found in the loadout, Jason can also perform a number of environmental executions, such as throwing someone into a fire place or pit, as well as pulling them under water.

Playing as a counselor isn’t nearly as fun, as you are primarily going to be running around looking for randomly placed items to facilitate an escape or to defend yourself against Jason. While there are a number of defensive items available, they only slow Jason down. Apparently you can kill Jason, but it is no easy task, as I have yet to see anyone accomplish it. I have played a number of rounds and have yet to manage to complete most of these tasks, as it does appear it requires cooperation from your teammates. This is where the biggest issue lies. I don’t want to offend anyone in particular by saying that the online community is full of idiots, but it kind of is. I have run into a few like-minded people just looking to enjoy the game, but it is currently plagued with people that don’t have the maturity to play the game properly if they are not Jason every match. That or they are children who do not quite understand the concept of how it is meant to be played. With this being said, my time with the online community wasn’t that great.

I did enjoy playing some private matches with my wife and friends, but these typically revolved around figuring out the mechanics or goofing off. The only other option I found to be worthwhile was playing against AI bots that were added in a recent update. This option does ensure you are Jason every time; however, the AI is not that great and will regularly run head on into your waiting machete or tool of destruction. While not amazing, it can be a good way to kill some time and grind out the much needed XP.

The overall presentation is a bit lacking, since most of the character models appear to be from last-gen technology. While not nearly as bad as it was at launch, the game is plagued with bugs. There were a number of occasions where I was stuck in the landscape as Jason or a counselor, in addition to clipping as well as hiding spaces miraculously disappearing while someone is standing still inside, unaware that I could see them plain as day. The biggest offence is the lack of any real content. There are a whopping 3 maps (6 if you count the “small” versions of the original 3) and not much to do once you’ve seen all they have to offer.

I wanted to like this game, but I find it hard to recommend it in its current state. The lack of content, as well as the package being offered, is not worth the $39.99 price tag unless you have 7 friends willing to throw down the cash as well.

Gran juego, recrea muy bien los escenarios de la película, te mantiene en tensión cuando huyes y disfrutas cuando eres Jason y asesinas a los monitores. Está en desarrollo y poco a poco van aumentado el juego y su catalogo de manera gratuita.

Friday the 13th as of now is an online only game. There is no story, the only story being hidden in the 20 Pamela tapes which offer a creepy insight to how Pamela Vorhees was slowly driven to insanity by her son, Jason's death. This is the only part of the game that won't crash, so kick back and tremble in fear (Or cringe) of the backstory of the Friday the 13th series.

Visually, Friday the 13th is a bleak barren of trees and cabins. There is no high point in Friday the 13th's visual presentation except for the music which manages to encapsulate me in the rising tension as Jason Vorhees gets closer to me. But aside from that the environment of the summer camp is uninteresting to look at and doesn't make me feel tense at all. Additionally, the motion capture is lacking with the facial expressions of the counsellors making Mass effect andromeda look like oscar nominee actors. Not only that, but you can teleport when trying to run, get caught in objects, your buttons can be disabled and PNG spikes often cause the game to break in half. I was playing as the preppy playboy stereotype and I found myself flying through the air when I tried to climb through a window.

Gameplay wise, you'll be playing as Jason or one of the camp counsellors trying to survive. Jason is the most fun to play as you watch every single counsellor run away from you in fear and teleport around, place traps and break open doors to give them the gruesome death they probably don't deserve but will be getting anyway. The camp counsellors are surprisingly deep. You have to rummage through drawers in order to find survival supplies like weapons and health kits. You can be really creative with these weapons, using guns to slow Jason down and saving the bullet, using knives to disarm traps and using firecrackers to make sure your stamina gauge isn't completely depleted and recharge it. You can equip multiple different weapons, some specialising in stunning Jason and others specialising in in getting his mask off so you can kill him but the weapon hit boxes are very small, often making me regret ever trying to fight Jason off and instead just running away. You can survive by finding all the parts to the car or boat and escaping using mentioned car or boat, call the police and wait up to five minutes for them to arrive, stay alive for the entire 20 minutes or kill Jason if you play your cards right and have a co-operative, brave team. Counsellors each have different roles: Speedy characters like Vanessa Jones can run parts over to the car, boat or phone box and act as aggro to keep to Jason busy with their high speed and stamina, Stealthy characters like a Deborah can sneak around the map and place these parts into the phone box, car or boat using their high intelligence and stronger characters like Buggzy can protect their fellow teammates by stunning Jason with a baseball bat for long.

In the end Friday the 13th has every chance to be a good game, substance is there but unfortunately the game is just too atrociously buggy for anyone to enjoy.

They claim they can't even fix the stuff that is already in the game like the cars, trees etc but yet the release the game on another system and then a year latter onto another system the Switch.
Just save your money and never sent it to this company!
By the way this IS the same company that is making - The Predator! So you now know that will be a broken mess as well!
Even at the new price of $5.00 PASS!

This game is terrible and unless you like waiting forever due to laggy servers and then getting into a glitch filled game, don't waste your money. The company also has the worst customer service I have ever experienced and seems to only want your money.

At launch, the game was fun and great, but continuous bugs, cheaters, and issues with frame and ping put the game down tremendously, leading to an unsatisfactory taste after playing for a few months. I would wait for a sale or when the game ends up being free.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

A fun game but there really is not much to it. This game is only really worth playing if you are playing with mates, you can play it for free and you want to have a bit of a laugh. The core gameplay can be fun but can also get super repetitive- especially since there are only a few ways you can win. The maps all generally feel the same and are nothing special. I also only played this game once the bugs were mostly fixed- can be annoying finding a lobby though. Expand

It’s been more than 30 years since the Friday the 13th franchise launched, and nearly 30 since the last game was released. While graphically and technically superior to the 1989 NES game, gamers now have higher standards, and unfortunately Friday the 13th hasn’t lived up to those. A myriad of bugs, server issues, and gameplay glitches plague the summer camp, and at times it feels like Jason isn't the only problem you need to worry about.

Friday the 13th: The Game invites us to survive a night in Crystal Lake. We must flee as campers or kill if we are Jason. Although the idea is a good one and the matches are fun, there isn’t content enough and in the technical aspects the game aren't up to snuff.
