Flowing Lights is an Arcade Puzzle Shooter, yes both genres in one arcade style package. Each fight is a puzzle if you will, and there are many ways to solve the stage and the goal is to finish the stage in a better way than last time. Hopefully improve with each try, there is usually a better way to finish the stage than your previous attempt(s). I am a shooter fan and a puzzle fan so IFlowing Lights is an Arcade Puzzle Shooter, yes both genres in one arcade style package. Each fight is a puzzle if you will, and there are many ways to solve the stage and the goal is to finish the stage in a better way than last time. Hopefully improve with each try, there is usually a better way to finish the stage than your previous attempt(s). I am a shooter fan and a puzzle fan so I found the game quite rewarding for a low price of admission you get a lot of replay and fun. The graphics and color pallet is extremely vibrant and appealing to the shooter fan and the puzzle aspect is pleasing to the puzzle fan in me. In Flowing Lights you play as a ship that has been trapped on a foreign planet. Your ship is too damaged to leave the face of the planets gravity, however your sensors can detect an area where the gravity is weaker which may allow you to escape your current location. The game itself is divided into worlds that are broken up into sections. Each section has a number of enemies that you have to eliminate to clear it. Most of these enemies will fire projectiles that you have to avoid. You also have an arsenal of different weapons to combat the variety of enemies. You have a fast firing gun that are weak. You also have a weapon that you can charge up. Once you defeat all of the enemies in a section you will clear it allowing you to move onto the next section. Depending on how quickly you complete the section as well as the given objectives you will receive a rank, which in typical shooter style the best rank is S. The game also has a global leaderboard which is always nice to let you know how your doing against all the other players. The puzzle mechanics actually work pretty well with the shooter mechanics. The game revolves between the two elements, some level sections prioritize puzzle solving while others focus on the shooting elements ultimately leading to a satisfying feel for the overall mechanics. Flowing lights development team did a great job of implementing the introduction of concepts or how to if you will, so if you aren’t a fan of either genre you will be able to enjoy the puzzle or shooting aspects to the fullest and work your way thru the other challenges. I find that most shooter fans are usually fans of puzzle games too as both usually challenge hand and eye coordination as well as thought and strategy. This is quite an interesting approach in combining the two genres so if you like one of the two definitely consider the game and if you happen to like both genres like myself I highly recommend Flowing lights as it has something to offer to shooting fans and scratches the puzzle fan itch in you at the same time. If you are a fan then head over to the Xbox digital games store and buy it now. If you’re not a fan of shooting or puzzle genres there’s probably not anything here to change your mind. All in all a solid title for the Xbox library. Expand

Despite some eye-catchingly colourful visuals, Flowing Lights is unlikely to keep you around for long. Too many niggles in the moment to moment gameplay mean that any fun we might be having is quickly undone by frustrating failure.

Flowing Lights is a game that demands planning in advance; these aren’t simply run and gun levels, they are puzzles that need to be solved. And it is having to adapt this mentality that makes Flowing Lights such a unique and fun experience.

Flowing Lights cleverly blends shooting gameplay with physics to make one impressive action-packed puzzle-like arcade experience.
