Can't stress enough how awesome this game has been for me. The graphics aren't great, the camera is wonky at times, but the nostalgic yet fresh Final Fantasy experience I have been craving has been satisfied. I was disappointed with the direction of the series, but have fallen back in love with FF Type-0. 9/10, but 10/10 for awesome nostalgia-ness.

It is a pretty good game that many people bought just for the FF XV demo. This game is CLEARLY the port of a handheld game, but the game underneath is pretty good, hence the 7. It's not great, or even in the top 5 of Final Fantasy games (but it's close) in terms of story and character development and combat.

The FF XV demo is astounding, and played no part in my review score.

It's quite a joy to play a Final Fantasy and not to leave blanching and sad to see how they have prostituted.

One of my best games of last year. I loved Type-0

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game starts with a cinematic that drags on forever about some injured person who in the end has nothing to do with the story at all. It would be like if a background character in a movie was injured or killed and the director decided we needed 10+ minutes of his life story even though it has nothing to do with the plot.

The game frequently puts you into situations in which it either doesn't explain the mechanics of the event or explains them very poorly.

The controls are not difficult to get a handle on but they are more complicated than they need to be, and while the targeting system technically targets enemies it does not face you towards them it just highlights them. Attacks will hit that target but you could have the camera looking your character in the face not actually seeing what he or she is doing.

Plot flow feels very random like the story for the game was written 'willy-nilly' with totally random moments occurring that don't seem like the were thought up at the last moment to look cool.

Square's amazing laziness when it comes to lip sync shines through yet again, while it's excusable for pre-rendered cinematic sequences, in game models move in real time and therefore their mouth movement can be changed to match the language the characters are speaking

Final Fantasy Type-O HD seems like square followed their usual process of developing in a vacuum, it is doubtful that any attempt was made to get opinions on the playability or 'fun-factor' of the game outside of the core team and continues Square Enix's now long running trend of making a game that is all visuals with no heart.

If you want to make movies, then make movies Square. Advent Children was actually pretty good and that seems to be your forte now. You stopped making games about fourteen years ago.

Wow... I am a serious FF fan, and this is just... not worth my money. Graphics are terrible, storyline is like Harry Potter on crack, battle system is obnoxious, and that is just the beginning. Anybody knows how to return it?

Its been a long time, since I had that feeling of "this is final fantasy" and this game gives you that.
Its not the most graphically awesome game, and it has its faults. But over all well worth playing.

This game is like no other final fantasy but it is still awesome and for the most part it is a dark version of kingdom hearts. You also get to set up parties for each playing style which is a nice bonus

Final Fantasy Type-0 is like no other Final Fantasy ever. It thrives in its originality while floating through the franchise's mythos and established lore. It's definitely not perfect, but it's a fantastic Final Fantasy game.

The first thing that I want to get out of the way is how good the combat is. You'll spend most of your time fighting waves and more waves of enemies in this game.

The first thing that I want to get out of the way is how good the combat is.
You'll spend most of your time fighting waves and more waves of enemies in this game. And I'm happy to report that the combat system in this game is astounding!
Easy to pick up, hard to master, fluid battle system, fast paced, seamless grinding, good boss fights, unique characters that actually make a difference when building a party and going to battle, challenging and most importantly: fun and addictive!
It's impressive how the combat alone glued me tight. I could recommend this game based on just that.

Then we have the story. And this is where it gets complicated to talk about. But it's not bad at all. You see, I got quite attached to the characters and their motivations. The war and Orience's bleak setting kept me interested. This is the darkest and most serious Final Fantasy I've ever played and it works.
Most of it is due to the cast of remarkable characters. They all get their time to shine (some more than others, unfortunately), spending time in Akademeia helps to form a bond with their daily lives and the endings are very well done. The original/canon ending actually brought tears to my eyes.

The problem is that this beautiful story isn't well told at all!
The writing is convoluted and things happen way too fast. Too much of the lore and backstory of Orience and its past occurences are written in a tome. So instead showing it to you, they make you chase it. And what makes it worse is that those things are essential to grasping everything going on. And A LOT goes on.
Not only that, but too much of the content is locked behind new playthroughs. It'd be fine if they just added optional stuff to NG+, but there are new story cutscenes and important missions that you just don't get the first time around.

In addition to not properly telling the story, the game also fails in a few other aspects.
Party AI should be better, sometimes it gets too tough even on standard difficulty, casting powerful magic and using items is huge hassle, RTS missions break too much of the game's pacing, there are too many characters to level up and there's A LOT of content gating.
Also, I just can't stress enough how weak the soundtrack is. This is unacceptable for a FF game!

Having said all that, I'm just very happy that I've finished this game. This is a very good Final Fantasy game, with its own successful original take, an entertaining cast of characters and a brilliant battle system.
For a PSP remaster, this is impressive. Play this one.

Possibly one of my favourite jprms on the xbox one although its got a 7 due to some of its flaws. The combat of this game is perhaps its strongest feat its fun to play although is broken when you learn AVOID also your team ai isn't very good as sometimes they will just stand there and question their life decisions but giving them AVOID mean they will live a lot longer. The combat of this game is perhaps its strongest feat its fun to play although is broken when you learn AVOID also your team ai isn't very good as sometimes they will just stand there and question their life decisions but giving them AVOID mean they will live a lot longer. Another slight issue is its quite hard trying to keep all your teammates leveled high enough to survive in missions meaning you have a better chance on just sticking as one and then using the sp system to have high level random characters replacing your team making the game fairly easy on normal difficulty only really getting hard if your main leveled character dies which can lead to restarts if not careful.

Characters are all good in terms of personality all having their unique trait but can feel a little cliche at times luckily the voice acting is pretty good for all bar one character and its a shame this character is the main character and the one I chose to play as.

I wont spoil the story but will say its ok as its easy to follow up until the final mission and then it just changes tone drastically.

Overall I would suggest you try this game its fairly cheap and even comes with a demo for ff15 and is well worth the price however its also nothing ground breaking.

I was quite surprised by this fun little FF jaunt. When taken as a casual experience the experience really seemed to shine through for me. A linear plot progression that pushes you to finish once and jump into NG+ isn't always appreciated but in the end the bulk of the replay value is in side missions that required higher levels.

So for anyone who bought it, or is intending to buy it as a stopgap before our first true current-gen outing for the series eventually comes along, then you might be find this game as a welcome surprise, as going back to school with Class Zero really has taught us that there’s still plenty of life left in Final Fantasy.
