I must say, I love this fifas soundtrack, but apart from that, the core of the game is un enjoyable. The only good inclusion being fut draft. The long shot passing gameplay for me isn't enjoyable and the goal ripple when you score is very, underwhelming

I do honestly think EA is the worst thing that ever happened to gaming. It is amazing how this game has gone downhill, actually more of a stall the last 3 years. I still found errors in this game that were present in the last year's edition. Thank god for MLB the show & NBA 2K I still enjoy sport games.

This is the exact same game as FIFA 15. It is ridiculous they can relabel a game, and change the gameplay sliders, then sell it again for $60. The gaming industry needs some regulation. This is basically theft.

In this game the only ones who get good records are exploiters, the ones who used ridiculous unrealistic tactics that wouldn't work IRL, and use various gameplay exploits like ping-pong passing, finesse shots, and now long shots are ridiculous aswell.
To sum it up, nothing about this game is based on skill or any sort of merit, it's just an arcadey game that looks like it was made especially for the mentally challenged and 3 year old kids. Avoid at all costs.

The passing system has been changed in such a fashion that means that there is virtually no difference between the passing success rate of Lionel Messi and Accrington's right-back. In addition, in an attempt to market the defence as having got 'smarter', they've in fact just stopped the attackers making any runs.

This game ultimately has the feel of a game that's development team's work-experience spent 10 minutes making the gameplay from scratch, and the dev team spent the rest of the budget on graphics.

Again, EA's annual pattern of making a game one year where pace is everything, and the gameplay is very quick (FIFA 15), and the following year, making one that is impossible to make any attacking moves without a few hours of frustration as your players have been stripped of their pace (FIFA 16), is costly detrimental to the enjoyment of actually bothering to play the game in the first place.

Now don't get me wrong, frustration is bound to occur once you are 3-0 down inside 20 minutes at home to a fellow user that is *clearly* cheating, but EA's '16 title has the bitter-tasting characteristic of giving you that very feeling, when you are winning.

In addition, you have to question the scoring pattern of the Critic Reviews, when, at the time of writing, not a single one of them has given a negative review. Comparatively, the user's, again at the time of writing, had scored 195 negative reviews, with an average score of 4.6/10, which is a diabolical rating for a game with as much financial backing at this.

Like I say, I'm disappointed to find this to be the case, as I buy the game every year, but if you made a league table out of the FIFA games from over the years, this year's edition would struggle to make it out of the bottom three, when really, given the financial strength of it's board, it should be aiming for a title challenge.

    Regards, Dnipro.

All the more surprising that this year EA did not even bother to add any new leagues to its game. There is still no Greek league (14th strongest in Europe), Czech league (13th strongest) and even no Ukrainian league (7th (!) strongest), whose Shakhtar Donetsk play in the Champions League knockout phase almost every year. As for national teams, Chinese and Canadian national teams were added, while the national team of South Korea has been removed for some reason. EA is a huge corporation with an annual net income of almost billion of dollars and why they would not spend a few dollars on licensing to add at least three more major European leagues to its game is just beyond me. Just this example of stinginess from EA is enough to decrease the final score of the game by five points.
As for gameplay, it is repulsive, nauseating and simply depressing for a game of 2015. I do not play the Ultimate Team, although it is the most popular mode in FIFA, because I do not wish to give any more of my money to EA other than 59.99 plus sales tax for the game itself (which is too much already). I play mostly career mode on World Class difficulty. No matter what you do, you have a constant feeling that a result of a match does not depend on your actions and your skills. Even teams from the Football League Second Division maintain ball possession like they are FC Barcelona, they very rarely make passing mistakes, and its players score some incredible one-touch volleys from a distance of 35 meters. Your players, however, cannot even dream of scoring from such distances ever, they have better chances to send a ball to the Moon than to a back of the net. Also, you are lucky if your through-ball passes go to a player you intend them to go 50% of the time and even luckier if they indeed reach your target 20% of the time. AI players of your team almost never do what every normal football player with a brain would do in a specific situation. For example, my teammates never, not a single time, in all the matches I played opened up for a ground cross. Skill moves and tricks are a disaster, as four times out of five your player does something completely different from what you intended to do. And I can come up with dozens of situations like this. Particular attention deserve those moments when your team is losing on the 81st minute of the game, a rival player goes with the ball to a corner flag, and you spend eight minutes trying to take it from him. Moments like this show better than anything what a failure FIFA 16 is. It is as frustrating as it can get in a sports game.
I must admit that graphics indeed are amazing, and it is the only thing that keeps improving from year to year. But, as you perfectly know, not a single person buys a sports game for its graphics. For graphics, people watch the real-world football matches.
Music is an absolute nightmare as it has been in all FIFA editions since 2002 (can't assess earlier versions as I have not played them). Why nobody in EA Sports even thought of putting some classic rock, or jazz, or some kind of music back from the days when you still could listen to it without your ears bleeding. Every year I just go to settings and turn off all the so-called songs that there are. I think at least in one PC edition of FIFA, you could create your own soundtrack list, but, unfortunately, this idea, as most of the good ideas in EA, it did not live on.
In conclusion, after three weeks of suffering, I returned the game to GameStop. My score for graphics is 9, for league licensing 4, for gameplay 2, and for music 0. Overall, my score is 3 out of 10. FIFA 16 is another great example of why EA is a video game company with the worst reputation of them all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've been a Fifa player for years. I've been around since the Xbox arcade versions of the game, played through the biggest increase in gameplay and been through the best and worst that EA have thrown onto their tagline franchise. I'm afraid this year, that is going to come to an end. I have been through several years of change, and EA going for more realism has not helped. The company and the brand have gone downhill over the last few years, an have brought their game down with it. I have fallen out of the love with the franchise. Here's how.

In Fifa 16, there are 4 game modes which you will probably ever play: Ultimate Team; EA's money pit and a hive for micro-transactions which gamers ended up switching to buying through third party mechanisms which give better value for money, career mode; a massively unsaturated game mode with through-the-roof potential, pro clubs; same story as career mode, this is the co-op mode where you and a group of friends can make a team and play your way to the top, and seasons; for those who want to just do this on their own and play the game the way it was meant to be played.

The first game mode is Ultimate Team. This is the most popular game mode due to its online gameplay and team customisation (which is pretty limited anyway). This is where you buy players using in-game coins earned through matches and micro-transactions, be it legit or illegit. The gameplay is fast and flaired compared to other game modes, and is the main hub for online play. Obvious drawback: It is almost completely Pay2Win. It has been proven. It doesn't help either that the servers have a flicker switch for whether they work or not. It has given EA a bad reputation over the last few years.

Career mode is the main offline mode, with its dominant sub-section being manager mode, where you be the manager of a real life team and buy players who will make your team as good as possible. But due to the coding of the game, this group is limited to a select few talented youngsters. The coding for this game is the downfall of any player who wants to play the mode towards the end of the 15 season span: From personal experience, the game gets completely broken in its latter stages. One beloved return to this mode is player training, where you can train individual players how you want to using a special mode called 'skill games'. These are minigames you play to train a player in certain attributes. This can be extremely powerful or even OP, but lovable as it brings fun to the out-of-game portion of career mode. In-game? It is a broken mess. The AI is hideously volatile and horrible to play against, and drags all of the fun out of the game. Luckily you can simulate matches, but heck, that feature is broken as well, using RNG to determine the winner, mostly.
Along with the manager mode, you have a player career, which is similar to manager mode but you play as a created player and build up to become one of the best in the game. From other player's experiences, this game mode is heavily limited with little replayability due to a lack of features due to neglect from the developers.

The last 2 game modes are less popular than these two, mainly because they are even less saturated and are even quoted as 'neglected'. If you are a seasoned player of either of these modes, especially pro clubs, will seem like a downgrade from the previous years, but still enjoyable to an extent, as it attempts to make these game modes less important to ply gamers to their main cash cow.

Main positives: The visuals are stunning, the character models are sharp and realistic, and the game has polish. However, almost all of this was added from Fifa 15. the graphics have had a slight improvement this year, but not enough to make a difference. Sometimes I don't even know if I'm playing a different game because they both look exactly the same. The art design is exactly the same in match, with the exception of the menus and smaller other tweaks, The game has very little immersion, this was done better last year which was helped better by smoother gameplay and condensed audio. The game has many bugs and glitches that can be seen very early into the gaming experience. This is in part due to the terrible AI which make offline modes unplayable. If you don't have online modes available, don't buy this game.

As a standalone game, it is a decent effort, it is a decent sports game, containing some pretty interesting gameplay which has good replayability. But if you compare the game to its predecessors, to other games in the same genre made b other companies such as 2k and Konami, the game has taken a step in the wrong direction. The game doesn't feel complete, it is definitely for the common denominator, it will make you rage in ways you couldn't think you could manage, this game isn't worth anywhere near £50. This should be DLC attached onto the last game because that's how minimal the changes are. Luckily, I didn't buy the game. Good thinking there.

Another year, another rehashed game with slight improvements. I don't know why people keep buying these games when the last game was perfectly fine. You're basically paying $60 for Fifa 15 with slightly better animations, slightly better realism and a slightly better Career Mode.
Might as well call it Slightly Better Fifa 15 instead of Fifa 16.

With yet again clunky game play, static receivers from passes, bad refereeing decisions (consistently), poor AI of players going forward and sometimes with a ball that has a mind of it's own, the game can leave you feeling aggravated or even cheated sometimes.
I don't feel EA can justify charging £42 for a game that has so little improvement from last years release, it feels as though Fifa 16 could have just been a DLC for Fifa 15 but it was released as a new game for profit.

FUT is probably the main selling point along with the club branding rights, so my view on FUT is this:
I enjoyed it at first, it's like a mini game, building your card stack feels quite rewarding and getting those rare cards can sometimes make you shout out "get in there", but when playing a match, those players don't make that much of a difference than you think they would (maybe I'm just rubbish at Fifa ha).... pace is most noticeable, and when that inch perfect though ball actually does look perfect, the defender will blatantly jump in front of your running player stopping him in his tracks and going unpunished, it is called obstruction ref!? (this will happen in all game modes vs AI).
Players will clash and (being generous) 90% of the time your player will come off worse, this could be a player with brute strength and balance vs a much weaker opponent. Then if the opposition doesn't put you on the deck, maybe your own player will, this also happens a lot where your AI teammate will just collide with you or just stand in you path.
Another thing is overpowered goalkeepers in the box, they seem to get on the end of every cross and smother the ball all to easily from your feet, they are difficult to round in a one on one situation and almost impossible to lob. That being said I don't mind the goalkeepers like this I can live with it but some people might get annoyed and I can see why.

Career mode is the same as last year in all fairness, it just has a more glossy menu, the ability to do 5 training sessions a week and you get to keep a percentage of your transfer money to carry over from season to season.
Training is another one I got bored with quickly, luckily we have a simulate all option which is good for upgrading player attributes with a small boost.

All in all, Fifa 16 is a game you can have fun with for a while but the cons outweigh the pros in this game and it becomes very frustrating, even winning matches can still leave you frustrated.

    Good points:
Graphics, power pass button, FUT draft team, glossier menu overview, 2 year loan deals in career mode and enjoyable pro clubs multiplayer.
    All club branding rights.

    Bad:
Players fall over from tussling with AI controlled players constantly no matter what their attributes. Some attributes don't reflect the performance on the pitch and feels very robotic, poor ball control, lack of AI intelligence (when on human team), rough cinematic and glitches at times, very inconsistent referee decisions, inaccurate passing, over powered goalkeepers, and the most annoying of all them is players just keep falling over!

Passing is broken, defense system works great but if you are playing on world class you wont touch the ball for 20 straight minutes. Gameplay overall is the least fun part of the game, the rest of It is fun, but hasn't changed a bit in the last few years. I've never had so little fun playing a fifa game before. The improvements to FIFA 16 this year are notable in some areas but as a whole it’s starting to feel like the series is getting stagnant, with too much effort being put toward expanding revenue sources rather than delivering innovation that would appeal to a wider audience. Despite that, it's still the most reliable and consistent sports gaming franchise and that holds a lot of weight in the minds of consumers. With FIFA 16, you know you’re playing a really good game, but you might not completely believe it as much as in the past.

Overall, the core of a highly successful soccer game is in FIFA 16 but there's a niggling sense of "been there, done that," alongside a healthy dollop of "coulda shoulda woulda" that gets in the way. It's just a bit too safe and predictable. FIFA is still the Cup winner, but PES 2016 has made this annual Friendly a more heated affair.

FIFA has PES beaten when it comes to attention to presentational detail and atmosphere, but maybe that isn't enough anymore. For flowing football, though, you should look elsewhere. [Issue#130, p.71]
