Bragging more realistic tire wear and physics along with life like handling, you can really feel your choices matter more than ever before. Presentation wise the game was pleasing on the eye and very smooth, each stage feeling unique and authentic while delivering their own challenges. The sounds of the engines are pleasing and seem to have improved over the last installment. The navigator (Co Driver) seemed to enjoy yelling out his instructions and delivered them flawlessly, alas my execution of them not so much. As we've come to expect there is plenty of content to shake your racing wheel at, both online and offline. Feeling nostalgic? Try getting to grips with some old school cars and work your way up from the 60s to modern day, maybe you just want a bit of a mess around, then pick your own custom tournament with a good selection of customization options so you don't need to play the same one twice. Though you competitive natured lot out there, you've not been forgotten, get stuck in to the daily / weekly challenges and see how you stack up or rev your engine in the online modes! All in all, I may not be a huge rally fan but I had plenty of fun racing around, spinning out and rolling my cars, I even won a race or 2 once I got in the zone. What's been delivered has been spot on and gets a solid GO! from me. So with this being said it easily earns a recommendation from me. Fans of the series a definite purchase, new comers come join the fun. Expand

Good, but buggy. Hopefully they will fix these and with more time I can come back and up the review. Of course may go down too as I get used to things. Hope not!

Great sequel to Dirt Rally. I've been having a blast learning the tracks and vehicles.

Great game. Better than Dirt Rally in every way. There are some issues with Racenet and the ffb is a little light but I have confidence that Codies will sort it all out.

I love this game. The driving appears very realistic in the main. It actually shows how poor the physics is on other arcade racer like Horizon 3 and 4, Forza 7 et al.

There is a tremendous rush in this game when the driving around those corners are achieved with the correct lines and acceleration from the corners. To be honest, its sublime how accurate the game is and yet the driving experience changes with the different type of rally cars and track substrate. Each car and most tracks offer a different challenge. Add to that the weather, daytime, night time and track condition.

Im not that convinced by the track condition deterioration element of the game. But the track degrading is the first time Ive seen this be applied. So it will get better.
The replays of the drive are a pleasure as usual to watch. Codemasters usually do this very well in all their games.

So for me this game is the best racing game I have played in a very long time. Its that good I need to upgrade my steering wheel to get me those faster times and better control on the vehicle. Although my current wheel is not that bad at all.

Some argue about the amount of content on the game. yes the number of tracks are limited, but there are online challenges every day. And seriously, to get good at this game takes loads of practices and developing skill. Driving at night, in the day, in the wet or dry, driving RWF, FWD or AWD provides more than enough challenge.

    GREAT GAME.

Not sure this is a sales winner for Codemasters, but Is brilliant. It really does the rally genre a great service. But beware, it can be hard. Play only with a steering wheel and cockpit view to get the full immersion experience. Well done Codemasters again.

I've just downloaded this from Game Pass and I stepped into it very gingerly. I'd heard tales of how legendarily difficult it is; how punishingly realistic; and while I play a lot of racing games the times when I've turned my hand to the sim end of the market, with games like Assetto corsa, I've been brutalised by the difficulty of even driving a car in a straight line never mind competingI've just downloaded this from Game Pass and I stepped into it very gingerly. I'd heard tales of how legendarily difficult it is; how punishingly realistic; and while I play a lot of racing games the times when I've turned my hand to the sim end of the market, with games like Assetto corsa, I've been brutalised by the difficulty of even driving a car in a straight line never mind competing in a race. So I expected to bounce off this in a pretty dispiriting way.

My first few minutes were spent resetting the controls to the Forza layout(I can't drive without it) and readjusting the audio so that your co-driver is inaudible and the menu music is quiet. Since there are so many games on Game Pass this was one of those titles I expected to muck about in for half an hour or so and then delete a few days later when I turned to something else. Basically I just wanted to test how good the rally cars sounded - Codemasters are the undisputed champions of videogaming car sounds and their recent(and underwhelming) arcade racer GRID was almost worth buying on the strength of its insane engine and exhaust notes. So I took an Alpine out for a spin in the free roaming area*, tested out the chase and cockpit views, drank in the raw, grating gurgle that it makes and then had a look elsewhere in the game. I saw the time trial option and selected some other car, a Nissan I think. Then I took it out for a spin on a Spanish course. Because it's now my habit as a relatively seasoned videogame racer I left all the assists off, set it to manual sequential(clutch still escapes me), and dove in. Straight away I was surprised. I did better than I expected. I smoked the car to pieces and rolled it over repeatedly, sent it flying over inclines and into ditches, but I could at least control the car with my analogue stick, which I was half expecting to be impossible(most sim racers swear by a racing wheel setup). I think I ran it again. By this point I'd forgotten about testing engine noises altogether, I was just having too much fun.

Not long after I started a championship, again expecting to get savaged by the AI and my own incompetence. But again I was surprised: this game is punishing, no doubt about it. One mistake can cost you twenty places in a rally run. One mistake can total your car. Clip a rock, just a tiny rock poking into an otherwise open straight and you're at a 45 degree ange, drifting into a bank and then flipping through the air like a gymnast before landing upside down in a forest clearing. But the handling is more forgiving than you'd imagine. There's none of the wheel lock that you find with simulation road cars, where once you start spinning out and losing traction, even sightly, you're basically f***ed - in Dirt Rally 2.0 there's always at least a chance to wrestle back control of your car if you end up going diagonal.

Anyway, I think I placed something like seventh on my first attempt at one of these tracks, and that was enough encouragement for me. I've been playing it ever since.
It's one of those pure-skill games that certain gamers will love: gamers who love that feeling of slowly learning the nuances of a system of enormous depth and subtlety. Every time you drive it is a constant struggle: there are no moments where you can relax as you hare down a straight, like you can in GT Sport or Forza. Every single centimetre of track constitutes a threat to your time, and you must adjust your drive on a constant basis.

The track-racing emphasis on maintaining geometrically perfect driving lines is not so important in Dirt Rally 2.0, and losing traction is not just acceptable, it's often crucial. These are all mental readjustments for someone like me. The one and only rally game I played was an Xbox(original Xbox) rally game, Rallisport Challenge I think, and every racer I've played before and since has been tarmac-centric.
Anyway, in the same way that I was sure that I'd love Sekiro from the moment I pulled off my first parry, I was similarly sure I'd love this game when I first completed a track without damaging my vehicle. The feeling of wrangling your car through a tortuous course is exhilarating..

I'm a newcomer so I can't judge this game against previous incarnations. As a result plenty of hardcore fans will feel differently, in the same way that even though I love Forza Horizon 4, if I were to review it here half of said review would be complaints about how FH4 has failed to implement things that hardcore supporters of the franchise have been asking for. I can understand if there are complaints of that nature about this installation of Dirt Rally, it's just I'm not qualified to make them.

All I'm qualified to do is judge this as a standalone racing game - and on that front it is absolutely imperious.

*I do wish Codemasters would get their act together and make a proper open-world racing game to rival Forza Horizon - if anyone has the knowhow to pull it off it's them.

Quite OK. Practically the same game as
Dirt Rally but with some graphics changes made.
Feels like buying a Dirt Rally again Codemaster doesn't think about more money and almost the same EK as a Dirt Rally

Amazing wish it had a career mode like wrc 8 but its alot of fun specially with the colin mcrae DLC, favorite dirt of the series, wish it had more tracks, wish wrc 8 had dirt graphics, or wish dirt had wrc tracks thst would be a hell of a rally game but they are both amazing this time around .

perfect stimulation, perfect graphics, and very difficult but once you get it, it is very satisfying. I will say that this is better than any other rally racing game.

DiRT Rally 2.0 nails everything it sets out to do. Players need to know going in though that this is a brutal game, unforgiving at times. Even with the easy option this is still no pushover. I had to earn every victory I achieved and that is certainly a turn-off for players looking for an arcade-like experience. Codemasters continues their trend of excellence and maintain their spot at the upper echelon of racing game design.

A worthy sequel to the DiRT Rally franchise, that updates, upgrades and uplifts most aspects of the original. Still a few little niggles that could be better, but hopefully the paid content strategy can be converted into ongoing support and updates for the title.

The original Dirt Rally sits above its sequel as to go-to rally game for console gamers however, if you do decide to pick up Dirt Rally 2.0 you’ll still have one heck of a time.
