The boss battles in the game were absolutely brilliant and even though the high difficulty curve was a problem I still carried on thanks to the creativity the bosses had. I really enjoyed the style they went with when it came to the visuals and sound design and that’s mainly because everything stands out here. I really enjoyed the style they went with when it came to the visuals and sound design and that’s mainly because everything stands out here. There is a lot of fun to be had thanks to the shooting elements in the game and I’m pleased to say that the shooting elements hold up well throughout. The shift mechanic that’s present gives the game a unique side to it and in a way it keeps things fresh and interesting for longer. The difficulty curve can be absolutely brutal at times so expect to die a lot during your time with the game. In terms of content there isn’t a great deal for you to sink your teeth into which means there isn’t much replaybility either.
I found that the multiplayer offerings left a lot to be desired and because of this I spent most of my time in solo. Does Dimension Drive do enough to get a recommendation from me? There’s something about a shmup that gets me really excited and I always enjoy a decent shmup. That being said I can’t help feeling that game’s of this ilk have grown stale over recent times and that’s mainly because each different game tends to play out the same way. Dimension Drive though doesn’t play out the same way and the shift mechanic that’s present in the game not only breaths new life into the genre but it also makes the gameplay that little bit more fun. This fun factor is very important as well because you will get frustrated with this game because the difficulty can be off the charts at times, so more fun present does make you want to return back to the game. Unfortunately though there isn’t much in terms of content available to you and this is a shame because the content that is here is very good and when it’s all said and done the content makes Dimension Drive a pretty decent addition to a genre that I love.

Dimension Drive is fluid at all times, fast when it needs to be, and clever enough to be able to integrate in the unique dimension hopping feature to ensure that it is something many fans of the genre will want to get hands on with.

You could also argue that switching between two screens is only a gimmick but the game is completely built upon it. Without this to make it stand out, Dimension Drive would be just another shooter. Thankfully, the fight over indie players’ hearts demands developers to come up with new ideas to separate their games from the crowd. Dimension Drive succeeds at that and it’s gratifying to see the game grow during its course beyond its trick.
