    I love games that mix in different genre’s together and when done right these games can be very addictive and most important of all they’re fun. Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten DX is a game that does this and for the most part it works really well, and despite its shortcomings I had quite a lot of fun with it. The gameplay on the whole is extremely addictive and in my opinion they’ve got the balance spot on when it comes to the difficulty. I will say though that the game does require quite a bit of grinding and this can become tedious after a while. In terms of content the game has a vast amount for you to be getting on with and you will easily sink multiple hours into it without even realising it. I didn’t get bored very often and that’s mainly down to the tower defense and RPG elements working together flawlessly. Not all elements work flawlessly though and that was especially the case when it came to the strategy side of the game. There just isn’t enough depth with the strategy elements and sometimes you don’t need to use any strategy at all, which is a shame. Something that really surprised me about this game was most definitely the story. I must admit that I didn’t expect the story to be so good, but what was on offer here was both very interesting and also it carried with it some humour which led me to become attached to the characters in the game. There is a decent amount of variety when it comes to the story and in quite a few other places as well, but I would however have liked a few more maps with a bit more variety. The presentation side of the game is basic yet effective at the same time, and it’s something that I quite enjoyed. Visually the game has a good look to it and the sound design does a good job of drawing you in, which is great. At the end of the day Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten DX takes a chance by trying to combine different genre’s, and I appreciate that they tried to mix up things by doing this. Don’t get me wrong they don’t get everything right but without a doubt they get more things right than they get wrong and this makes your experience on the whole very enjoyable, which in turn makes me give the game a thumbs up.… Expand

    It it not difficult to imagine, why the original on the PC was so well received. The mix of classic tower defense and light RPG elements still works and should prove to be a good foundation for the sequel, that is already in the works. Unfortunately the visuals are subpar - especially since the genre has evolve quite a bit since its PC premiere more than five years ago.

    It’s funny, sad, compelling and in places murderously hard, but rewards extended play and is without doubt the most fun I’ve ever had with a tower defence game.

    Defenders Quest is a solid RPG/Tower Defense hybrid that offers up hours of content, spread across a dark and compelling story. The visuals and the sound are the weakest points here, but to judge this merely on how it looks would be doing it a disservice. It’s accessible, it’s refreshing, and above all else, it’s well developed.
