Daymare is a trip down nostalgia lane, potholes, speed bumps, and all. You will play several different characters, offering different perspectives to the ongoing story. Though if you're a fan of the genre, you won't be caught off guard too much with this story. Though the story does embrace likely the best explanation of why zombies eat brains. The game doesn't try to hide it's influences and is puzzle and easter-egg filled. The music is original, and suited for the game, but it became a bit much for me and I turned it off to better hear the ambient sounds, this seemed to relieve a ton of stress on the engine, and the game ran smoother. The nostalgia trip is complete, from the elation of starting the game to the frustration of the controls. The controls are clunky, and at times frustrating, especially during a Boss battle. The game itself is well put together, but the engine can be seriously heavy at times. Fans of the Classic Horror Survival games will feel right at home with Daymare top to bottom, but those more accustomed to the newer setting may have a little less fun with it. Expand

I also bought the Xbox version because this is a unique game. A real return to the 90s!

With the last game updated the game is really better and I can enjoy it at the best also on my Xbox One. I love SH games and I test them on all my consoles. If at the release the game was not the best on Xbox One, now is better for sure and you can enjoy it as the great indie SH game it is. Give it a chance.

This game is far from perfect, but the passion that the developer had during the development was huge! I followed Invader Studios effort since the RE2 fan remake and they really are an amazing team. The game is still one of my favourite game of the last few years, try it you will not regret it.

Expand

This is a fun, low-budget clone of Resident Evil. Originally, it was a fan-made remake of RE 2. The game is goofy and filled with technical issues, but fans of survival horror should enjoy it. Also don't expect too much variety in terms of the enemies. Ultimately, Daymare feels like a PC game from the early 2000's. It's goofy fun. I would rate it with a 7.3 out of 10. Expand

This is a neat revival of survival horror games, loved the lighting, the puzzles are challenging and the atmosphere is perfect.

Daymare 1998 is clearly an homage to survival horror games from the original PlayStation era. It hits some notes while missing plenty more. With some more tweaking and optimization this could have been a great addition to the genre. What is here though leaves a lot to be desired and falls more into the area of being a game that will spark some nostalgia, but induce more frustration at what could have been.

Daymare: 1998 brings us an interesting story, full of 90s survival horror clichés; perfect for hardcore fans of the genre. Despite its technical and playable issues, it manages to keep us interested and wanting to go back know more about the story.

With all of its issues, it’s hard to recommended Daymare: 1998. Some, however, will be able to grit their teeth and enjoy it – it’s not all bad. It’s a slice of old-fashioned survival horror, with a modern twist and some original features thrown in for good measure. Those original features aren’t all great, however, and the unevenness of the overall package – though reflected in the game’s budget price – makes it very much a love/hate affair. Though maybe “love” is too strong a word. Perhaps tolerate/hate affair is more appropriate.
