What this game lacks in graphics it makes up for in energy. With incredibly smooth 8bit graphics Crawlers and Brawlers takes you on a standard RPG adventure with standard character archetypes. But the game is far from a standard RPG. You start by customizing your character, Class, Hair, and Skin can be changed between a small selection. You have three classes, the standard Fighter, Caster, Healer trio. Then you can select from a handful of hairstyles in six colors, and 3 skin tones. Then you're off on your great adventure! There are four ways to play, Story, Brawl, Crawler, or Arena. The game menu is the first map you spawn on, and how you navigate the four modes. You can travel to the North West to start your Story mode, the game's campaign. Off to the North East to enter the Arena and face 2-80 increasingly difficult waves of enemies. South East is for the Brawler mode where you can prove your might against other players. Then lastly South West will take you to the Crawler mode were you delve as deep as you can into a procedurally generated dungeon. You have an RPG experience and progression system with progressive item collection as well. Your items and level follow you from mode to mode. The gameplay is decently paced and can go from relaxed to insane in the blink of an eye. A fun multiplayer, or Solo experience, but better played with friends. Expand

Crawlers and Brawlers on Xbox One is an interesting proposition. With randomly generated dungeons, you'll never play the same game twice, which adds greatly to the longevity. The game is fast, fun and, above all else, enjoyable, whether you are following the story, crawling for loot, or battling a horde in the Arena. I'm less sure about the Brawl mode, but feel sure that some will enjoy it, but as an overall experience it’s easy to recommend this game to both fans of Diablo and those looking for something a little bit retro to scratch that 8-bit itch.
