I don't know why Toys for Bob decided that the most difficult platforming I have ever played is part of the identity of Crash games now, but in my opinion they completely butchered the fun and easy going pick up and play aspect of this classic 3D Jump N' Run franchise because of it.

If you commit to this game, you can get a lot out of it. But I don't think even then so much of this frustrating level and progression design was necessary or added anything of value to this game.

You can't find all boxes in any level if you don't watch a YouTube guide. They are ANNOYINGLY hidden!!! And I won't even talk about the colored gems... For nostalgia purposes I would like crash to stay family friendly ( even though tawna ) but if this keeps him relevant I am ok with it. But I must say, christ was getting 106% hard. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time Crash Badicoot 4: It’s about Time Expand

However can't give it a 10/10  because of the loading times and other few nitpicks, getting the box gem can be a fun challenge but some of the levels have boxes hidden of screen so you will miss boxes a lot and it's a cheap way to force you replaying the levels and wait for a long loading times, but collecting boxes is not the only side stuff you can do, you have time trials of course and the no death gem and the perfect relics, and the perfect relics are ridiculous the levels are too long and difficult so beating them while breaking every box and not dying just don't work it's not fun it's just tedious because you have to wait around half minute every time you replay the levels, a solution for this is just remove the loading screen and the completion will be more than fine and manageable, the inverted mode is cool but I don't know why you have to collect six gems in every level again, the flashback tapes are the only great side content it'll give you new levels and extra dialogues, those things are optional so don't bother doing them if you are not interested, playing the game casually and just going from level to level and enjoying the level design until you beat the story it's one of the best platforming games ever made Expand

Exhausta mucho. Hagan casual run en la primera vez)

Apparently our favorite marsupial has returned to its roots from its golden age. And they were right. The start is canonical and consistent, It looks beautiful and good framerate (Sometimes on xbox one where it plays a bit of fps drops but nothing serious), new gameplay and characters, and very comfortable controls. But they also have neutral points like the attitude of characters like crash or cortex. And without a doubt the most terrible point of the game is its tremendous difficulty. You have to get 6 GEMS in each level and that includes the extras (And repeat the second half of the level with crash and coco without dying), And also in the inverted mode you have to repeat EVERYTHING. And the levels are very long. And when you complete EVERYTHING, you just get an extra Relic, Outfits and an ending ... and that's it. But definitely recommended to play. (Whatever you do, don't do it at 105% the first time. It tires a lot. Do a casual run the first time)

It has missions in which the player controls the Tawna, the crocodile and the Neo Cortex, each with completely different skills from each other. Playing with Crash or Coco, in various missions you will wear masks that allow you to make stronger attacks and jump farther, materialize and dematerialize objects, slow down other things and control pregnancy.
The main story lasts for about 10 hours, but the game has a huge amount of optional content, which for a 100% can seem from 70 hours. With flashback tapes, with extra testing missions done by the neo cortex in crash, optional missions with the other characters I talked about before, in which the player sees what these characters were doing during some Crash and Coco mission and explains an event of the main missions. By defeating N.Brio, you release a variation (called N.Verted) for all missions in the game to play them with changed colors and gameplay. In each stage you can get 6 gems in normal mode and in N.Verted, with 6 or 8 gems (depending on the mission) you release the skin for that mission, and they are all very creative and change Crash and Coco a lot. To get the gems you need to: die a maximum of three times = one gem, take all the boxes = four gems and the other is hidden on the map. There is the insanely perfect relic collectible, which is achieved by completing the mission by penging all the boxes by dying a maximum of three times and picking up the hidden gem at once.
The game in my opinion is the easiest compared to the original trilogy, but it remains difficult. If you find it too difficult, you have the option of modern gameplay with infinite lives, this is a very positive point in the game because it pleases children who have never played the originals, and hardcore players who prefer something more challenging will play in retro mode, with lives told

I feel so bad to give a Crash Bandicoot game a mediocre rating, but I feel this game became such a mess to me. :/ The new ideas, the new masks, the animations, the gestures, the characters are great and funny, but on the other hand, I feel this game fails on common designing problems:
    - The game is not instructive - I mean not in the challenging way
    - Default setting options are missing, such as setting brightness.
    - The directions I can move are not coherent or logic at many levels, the camera also turning sometimes without a sign, without logic so it kicks me out of the vibe
    - Handling is awful, I experience too many times that I hit the right button in the right place, the animation is played, but the game decides I would loose anyway with no right reason
    - The game is too hard, and this is leading to two main problems: Despite the amazing new ideas granted by quantum masks, the game fails to deliver up-to-date feature such as ability to set difficulty. I don't think they matched the right or the full audience. The childs who had plenty of time playing original Crash games are now working adults with deifinitely less time. I would like to have fun, and not stucking (and raging) for days at one single level.
-Also, there are too less checkpoints, and in many cases not where it would fit the level design. Again, if the game was up-to-date, they would implement fast reloads to "modern" gameplay style, so I should retry just the recent challenge.
    - In "modern" gameplay, there is not enough reason to obtain apples, therefore I loose my motivation many times
    - They dropped the fantastic structure of Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3 where I could choose the order of completing levels at stages. It was such a good freedome, also granting me option to chill and regenerate when I stucked on other grounds.
    - It seems I can not pick up another tapes until I not finish the first/previous extra levels. This is a horrible designing soultion! In case, why should I replay the whole game If I decide to play them later? I should have to pick up every tapes, but being able to play them just in the right order.
By the time I start enjoying the game and its funny animations, I run into a design problem killing the feeling.

After Activision decided to discriminate players who prefer physical copies by making the demo available just for digital pre-orders, I decided not to buy this game for a whole price, and waited for the first discount. However, now I see It was rather a warning not to buy this game at all. :( I'm disappointed, disappointed because they messed up a game with such great new ideas by simple designig problems., and I'm disappointed because it is a Crash Bandicoot game, one of the first beloved games I have played as a child. When I'm thinking on selling a video game instead of beating it, it indicates something went wrong.

I love the original crash trilogy just as much as anybody, but even I can look back and admit, crash has never been anything better than just good.. and playing through crash 4 had me asking myself ould this be it.. could this be the great game we all knew crash could be…
I started out loving crash, the initial challenge, the beautifully crafted levels, the nostalga of going through each level trying to break all of the boxes, getting to play with my girlfriend, I loved it.. but the glaring problems crash 4 possesses, stop it from ultimately hitting that definitive, wow.. this is a great game…
For starters the structure here with the gems, you have a challenges of collect this many wumpa fruit, collect all the boxes, find the hidden gem, get through the level only dying this many times… all of this is great.. I love adding more challenge to levels, giving replayablity incentive.. but how these gems are handled is what tarnished this system.. they are for skins… but rather than getting as many gems as you can in a level to save them up for your favorite skins.. the game forces you to do every or near every challenge in a level to unlock its skin… and because of this I didn’t even bother… one of the main hooks of a crash bandicoot game for me, is its collectables aspect, breaking all of the boxes, searching for its hidden gem.. but if I miss one cheap box on a rail section im automatically disqualified from unlocking that levels skin unless I want to replay the whole level again.. a major respect of my time and effort.. there is literally no incentive to do anything but get to the finish line with a sytem like this… especially now that lives are no longer a thing… as crash 4 is more designed to be trial and error, bang your head against the wall difficulty that just stops being fun a little more than halfway through this 9 hour game… I don’t find annoying im going to try and kill you every step you take luck based obstacles to be fun, and this is all crash 4 ends up being by its end.. from a fun collectathon to straight up frustration and levels that eventually just become so dull and drag on forever… thanlfully Crash 4 is more good than bad.. it is full of so much content, new characters and bonus levels, again, so many skins to unlock if you care to take on its challenges… I just would’ve personally liked a more friendly approach to the gem system, turn it into currency rather than progress, so that someone like me and really anyone with not a whole lot of time on their hands can enjoy that aspect of at least trying to break all of the boxes and grab all of the fruit, because once you miss one box or you die right before a checkpoint after a long slog, you just don’t want to do it.. you don’t care about the boxes and exploring… this killed part of what makes crash bandicoot so special…
but this is a special game, in fact while it has no memorable moments or levels like the previous games do..i believe crash 4 is the best game in the series… so much great foundation with the multiple masks adding new elements such as gravity or appearing and disappearing platforms, new characters with their own play styles… just work on the pacing. Let me breathe a little in between the constant im gonna kill you obstacles..give me incentive to collect even with a time crunch life.. and maybe. Just maybe.. crash bandicoot 5 can be this first great game in the series…
I give Crash Bandicoot 4: Its about time
    a 7.5/10

I can't tell you the many times I got banned from this site, over having a different opinion with reasonable critiques over a "AAA" or "AAAA" video game. With that being said, this needs to be MY LAST game review ever in this industry. I feel as if these "game companies" do not listen to a word that comes out of our mouths, unless we are being super kind/sweet/loveable towards them. I wishI can't tell you the many times I got banned from this site, over having a different opinion with reasonable critiques over a "AAA" or "AAAA" video game. With that being said, this needs to be MY LAST game review ever in this industry. I feel as if these "game companies" do not listen to a word that comes out of our mouths, unless we are being super kind/sweet/loveable towards them. I wish my life was that easy where I was "rarely" critiqued in anything that I do. But that is not reality and this is why Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, struggles to beat the sales of Crash Bandicoot 2 and Crash Bandicoot 3. If the "AAA" industry continues to just listen to "consumers" that buy set products and only state "the little" that is wrong with these "games, movies, anime" and etc., we are going to continue to have "buggy, broken, glitchy, and so forth" products. The constant excuses that comes out of these "consumers, customers and gamers" mouths, it is downright exhausting/takes too much of my time to try to break down. Now sit back, take Tawna's and Coco's painted toes out of your mouths for just five minutes and HEAR what I am trying to say ok? Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is a GOOD game. But it is not EXCELLENT! (Far from it)

I don't really want to go into a lot of detail with the game's story and etc. Just watch any other Youtuber that "overly" praises this game and misses the basic details in game design. (No offense) Here are my pros, cons and final conclusion. (Yes. I will buy Spyro 4 and Crash Bandicoot 5 when it will be announced)

    Pros:
    1. Gameplay is fine. (Nothing really new. There are some new innovations here and there, but I have seen it before in other games)
    2. Storytelling is great and the voice acting is spot on.
    3. 3 of the 4 masks were a joy to interact with in certain levels.
    4. Tawna and Dingo levels are a blast.
    5. Graphics and art style are quite presentable. (Could have been better but beggars can't be choosers)
    6. Music is well done. (Not as great as the originals and has an over reliance on remixing old songs)
    7. Tons of replayability (Even if it is over unlockables that you really don't care about sadly)
    8. Retro difficulty is a nice touch
    9. Enemy designs
    10. Stages are awesome and fun to play/re-play in. (Except the 2nd to final level. That level is an absolute game design nightmare)

    Cons:
    1. The character designs overall are pretty questionable. (I guess this is all they could stick with. Not bad but not great either. It's debatable yet I can tolerate it.)
    2. The true ending sucks. I really did not want to see Oka Oka again. Having him being left for dead, would have been just fine. It would have been better if a new scientist, the fake bandicoots or heck, Spyro appearing out of nowhere, would have been better for a secret ending. This was just LAZY! In fact, Nina Cortex is barely in the game. Seriously? What about Crunch Bandicoot?
    3. Level design is all over the place. (Play the 2nd to final level and you will see what I am talking about)
    4. Boss fights are TOO EASY!
    5. The game overall is sort of easy, but fair in difficulty. (It is all about timing and having patience. Crash Bandicoot 1, will always be the hardest one of the bunch. Have you played the 2 scrapped levels in the N sane Trilogy?)
    6. No new upgrades for moves for each character. (That is very disappointing)
    7. The Cortex levels STINK! (The platforming is awful)
    8. There are some slight camera issues in certain areas. (What platformer doesn't have that?)
    9. The constant mocking of the "mediocre" Crash games, is funny at first but gets kind of annoying. (Without those other Crash games, this game wouldn't even exist. Plus they weren't even all that bad as certain Youtubers, make it seem like it to be)
    10. The unlockables are a waste of time. (For those who have fully completed the game, I double salute you.)
    11. The skins you unlock, don't really do anything. It is just a cosmetic. (Cool looking ones but that it is)
    12. Controls feel a little off as you progress through the game and the jumping (while somewhat fixed in a patch) is a little floaty.
    13. The Dingo and Tawna levels are WAY TOO SHORT!
    14. Coco plays exactly like Crash, with no big differences. (That makes me sad)
    15. There are barely any alternative paths, the crystals are gone, (could have been used as a method to unlock a 2nd alternative ending of some sorts) and the multiplayer is pretty lackluster.
    16. You have to buy the digital edition in order to access the pre-order skins. Why?
    17. Certain gameplay mechanics that could have worked in the "other" Crash games, are stripped.
    18. Those awesome/creative levels where you scuba dive, ride a motor bike and etc., ARE GONE! Seriously?
    19. The cosmic masks are forgettable at best and there is no way to switch between them after you beat the game.
    20. The inverted stages are an eye sore for those who have eye disabilities.

    SO CLOSE TO BEING PERFECT!!

Expand

The sound, The look, The feel! And it's not a one off, spin-off of the series! Toys For Bob managed to pick up and Re-Boot Naughty Dog's original trilogy that concluded in 1998, while at the same time continuing the original story! I don't even know where to start. The games hub is an over-world map, more like the first game, than the Hubs in the two sequels. The map is just as alive as the game, and all the tiny details, and guessing at what may lie hidden in the obvious gaps kept me staring at this screen for likely more time than was ever intended. The levels are just as amazing. Revisiting this world (and it's neighboring Dimensions or timelines... it wasn't 100% clear on that) with the new graphics abilities of modern consoles was mind blowing! Toys for Bob managed to utilize all of Crashs' original move set, double jump, spinning, and the ground slam, What i didn't expect was for them to force me to hone these abilities. They also blended brand new powers into the game, and did it so well I had to think hard to remember they weren't in the other titles. Fans and New Players alike will love this title, and platforming fans, will be given a run for their money! Expand

The new game brings the essence of Crash Bandicoot but introduces a lot of new things at the same time. Some minor things may bother the purists but for me this game has turned incredible well done. 10 out of 10

Crash 4 is pretty much the reason for a player like me to finally return to the series after all these years having only played the original. I love the OG crash trilogy and I love crash 4, it feels like im picking up where i left off all those years ago when i finished playing warped for that last time on the ps1 (until the N.sane trilogy came out) I was going to give this a 9 out of 10 however after getting to the future city zone my game had a crash (hah), i rebooted up my One X and to my annoyance all the progress i had madeI love the OG crash trilogy and I love crash 4, it feels like im picking up where i left off all those years ago when i finished playing warped for that last time on the ps1 (until the N.sane trilogy came out) I was going to give this a 9 out of 10 however after getting to the future city zone my game had a crash (hah), i rebooted up my One X and to my annoyance all the progress i had made was reset on the save file, it still have the file there with the 3 letter nickname you put it. I tried to use the local save and the cloud save on xbox but nada.

Aside from the inconvenience of having to restart when i was close to the end, the game is great, the movement is responsive, i like the design of the chraracters and levels. I'd say to anyone who either loves the old school crash games or a good platformer crash 4 is a game to give a go. Ignore the extreme scores whether high or low, its not perfect and its not utter garbage. You are given the option to play it in 'retro' mode so you have to gain lives and watch for your characters' shadow rather than the yellow circle in 'modern' mode which has a death counter.

The new quantum masks introduce fun elements although I found them sometimes frustratiing if i was having a bad run. You've got the flashback tapes, N.verted modes for levels to increase replayability. There is a decent amount of skins for crash and coco as well, although it might have been a bit more fun if Tawna, Cortex and Dingo had alt skins to collect as well. Toys for Bob have also so far kept to their word and the game has no sight of microtransactions, so hopefully it stays that way.

The return of one of the best franchises. A challenging, but fair platformer with new additions like the Quantum Masks, N Verted mode and Flashback Tapes. This expands the classic formula without breaking the core gameplay. If you are a fan of the franchise or of the genre, i recommend it.
    PD: Crash is back.

Crash Bandicoot 4 is a game that has been a long-time coming. Toys for Bob have really captured what made the original games special, while also modernizing it and delivering their own stamp on the franchise. Fans of the original finally get the sequel they deserved, and it feels good to live in this renaissance of PSOne-era games making a comeback. I hope Crash continues to live on and we don’t have to wait as long for Crash 5.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is the true sequel that fans have been waiting for. The Unreal Engine 4 powered visuals brings the series into 2020 while Toys for Bob has kept to the original source material while adding some new gameplay elements, a personal touch so to speak. What has also made the jump (no pun intended) to this sequel though is the difficulty and control issues of the past. I really do wish the game was more accessible to new and younger fans alike, as some people may be turned off by this, but I don’t think it’s fair to heavily penalize the game for this fact, as it still is what made the series what it is. Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is truly the best game in the series and I do hope we see another one on the upcoming next-generation consoles.

Activision and Toys for Bob successfully manage to deliver a proper and direct sequel to Crash's original trilogy, doing justice to the franchise's classical gameplay formula but also adding more gameplay variety and lots of content. A game to play, both for nostalgic players and new platforming enthusiasts.
