Control is a good 3D Metroidvania with a likable protagonist, an enjoyable setup, interesting setting, and great music. I don't see this game really being fixed on base PS4 or Xbox One. The gameplay is awesome and the weapon mod variety has great balance and progression, but the objectives in the game are few and shallow. If the game were one-third shorter it would still feel like some gameplay content is being reused. The Metroidvania elements do create some interesting gameplay encounters but ultimately the small hallways make backtracking through the world a chore. Unfortunately, I found myself using fast travel a lot which is telling of most open-world games with a lot of padding. I won't spoil it but I found the story had a good set up but ultimately goes nowhere leaving the ending feeling unplanned. It's a good concept and I think a director cut with better performance and an alternate ending would be an easy 8/10 and Xbox Scarlett and PS5. Expand

Control's very unique story, environments, battle system and atmosphere build an incredible game. This is a game that I can easily recommend to any action game fan. Even if you don't pay attention to it's ominous weird story and characters, you'll still get the most out of its gameplay and presentation. AND MY GOD, THE ART DIRECTION HERE IS JAW DROPPING!

Control's only mistakes are found in its unforgiving checkpoints, poor performance issues, lack of variety towards the ending and the shallow story conclusion. Nothing game breaking, but I felt like its faults kept it from being epic or even more memorable than it is.

Thankfully it’s brilliant as well. In fact Control can be considered Remedy’s best games to date which is no small feat considering they have produced franchises such as Max Payne and Alan Wake and neither of those were slouches either. Control is one of those games that never lets go from start to finish and you’ll definitely feel a great sense of satisfaction because the gameplay is interesting featuring a style that feels much more polished this time around. A lot and each little intricate part seems to combine together almost flawlessly. Something that does combine together perfectly though are the visuals and audio. There’s a huge amount of detail included in both aspects and for me it’s some of the best visual and audio work I’ve ever experienced because I hadn’t been this immersed in such a long time. The immersion didn’t stop there either because the story is breathtakingly brilliant from start to finish and when you factor in the amazing visuals and audio as well you fall in love with Control almost immediately. It’s absolutely brilliant with plenty of variety present in a number of different areas. As I said earlier it features the same gameplay style that was present in Quantum Break and whilst the gameplay was decent in that game I found Control to be much more refined. Learning each ability is worthwhile then and progressing through the different environments always felt rewarding because there always seemed to be something new to find or destroy so to speak. Control was one of my most anticipated games of the year and after playing it it’s now one of my most favourite games of the year. I can’t recommend it enough because even though it isn’t absolutely perfect it features uniqueness in all areas and with a story and presentation that’s simply amazing you’ll find it very difficult to put this game down and you’ll also find it very difficult to forget about it long after completion. Remedy's critically acclaimed action-adventure game Control will receive new content very soon! These updates will include a photo mode, a new game mode and two full expansions. The first, The Foundation, will delve into the very depths of the oldest house, while the second expansion, AWE, will introduce Jesse Faden to the Investigations Sector and the mysteries within! Set in a unique and ever-changing world that juxtaposes our familiar reality with the strange and unexplainable, Control is a third-person action-adventure game combining Remedy’s trademark gunplay with supernatural abilities. Honestly, it pains me to write this down. I love Remedy and the games they have made over the last two decades now. I was part of the minority that actually enjoyed Quantum Break. I love Remedy and the games they have made over the last two decades now. I was part of the minority that actually enjoyed Quantum Break. Unfortunately, Control will be seating at the end of the podium for me. One thing to clear out, the game is beautiful, the light, the physics, the paranoia of wandering in the hallway of a forever changing environnement that really put you into a David Lynch nightmare. The big let down for me, the story... I have put 20+ hours in the game and I still do not CARE about what is happening or why do I do what I do. Which is one of the main reason a solo narrative game should be pushing “why should I care”. The characters are flat most of the time dull, completely oblivious about the events surrounding them, most of the time you feel like having a casual conversation with Suzan at the coffee machine behind your cubicle on a Monday morning. The only character that has a minimum of substance would be the janitor (played by Sam Lake I believe), who is colorful and mysterious enough for me to appreciate my encounter with him. But the rest is really dull and boring.

And it pains me because I know how good of a storyteller and worldbuilder Remedy can be. The gameplay is most of the time very satisfying. But the checkpoint system coming straight from the PS2 era is a grind I’m not willing to waste time on. You die, you go back, wayyy back where you started, find the room again, run, fight again and die again to then repeat.

The game doesn’t have a difficulty mode, so most of the time some levels can really, really be grinding. So dying and trying again will be a hell of a routine in this game. To note that the gun you’ll be using doesn’t have much “punch” to it. It doesn’t feel like a special weapon, the shooting moment aren’t that fun or dynamic, what save the fighting moment are the actual powers that you have and will enhance thorough the game.

Now, I understand the critical response the game had, and I truly support the people who love it. I truly believe that my gamer expectation where not satisfied. Won’t be in my top games of 2019, and won’t probably give it another try.

    Control'ьный в голову Remedy?

I was absolutely torn with this game. I was a massive fan of Alan Wake and enjoyed Quantum Break but I could never really decide if I was enjoying this game or not before it abruptly ended.

The story is gibberish for the most part. Characters are poorly written and the dialogue was terrible. Some of the game mechanics were awful which were exasperated in the really poor boss fights.

Graphically it was average on XBOX X, although the frame rate and performance for me seemed better than many have experienced.

Despite that, I did play it through to the end and enjoyed some of the later powers that you were given, however, again as it was towards the end of the game before you achieved many of them, the time using them was ultimately quite brief.

There are moments of genius scattered throughout such as the ashtray maze but my overall feeling was probably disappointment or apathy.

Probably a 6.5 but as I expected so much more, I am dropping it a little.

The collectible items you find throughout the game build the world wonderfully, and I found myself scouring every inch of space looking for more. Combat is well balanced and the alternate modes for the primary weapon, along with the powers you get along the way, enable players to play in a multitude of ways. Upgrades and modifications can also be used to allow you to find your niche.

The sound/music of the game pairs wonderfully through each second of the game, truly immersing you in the experience. The graphics are also stunning and when combined with the aforementioned audio you get a truly astonishing experience. With that being said, I have to deduct a point from my review due to the issues the Xbox One has with loading scenes due to the demand the game requires for running such high end graphics. I have been told that the Xbox One X has minimal issues, and I do not own the game for PS4 or PC.

The game has no micro transactions, but has an in game currency and loot that is acquired by defeating enemies and completing missions. These currencies are used to upgrade abilities and purchase new modifications, and I never felt like any of these were overpriced. The developers have laid out a road map of paid DLC to come out, but at the time of this review they are still being developed, hence I cannot review them. The paid DLC does seem to have a lot of promise though, as two of them help to push the story along after the main events of the base game, and I highly doubt such an esteemed company as Remedy will fail to make the DLC a satisfactory length and experience in regards to price. Another DLC, which I can't remember being paid or not, will come with challenges designed to test the player and the abilities they've learned throughout the game.

Finally, the difficulty of the game cannot be adjusted; however, the game always felt fair and balanced and the times where I did die, the game seemed to make the enemies less competent at aiming, deal less damage, and increase my damage output which alleviated my frustration and allowed me to continue the story. There are optional bosses where the game does not tone down the difficulty from the times I died, but these once again felt fair and balanced. After some attempts, you'll learn what mods to equip, what weapons to use, and with experience you'll beat it.

They created a variety of enemies with different abilities and all of them can be easily dispatched with launch. Of the five guns, one is completely useless and another is useful in rare situations. If you only have five guns in the whole game it would be nice if all of them could be useful and fun. The level design is very well done with metroid type discovery and plenty of hidden secrets. Fabulous game with a great story and excellent combat. A truly gorgeous looking game too. The environment is amazing and stunningly rendered. Gameplay and combat are good too, let down only by some horribly difficult bosses and badly placed autosave points. UI could do with a bit of a spruce up as although there are many, many interesting documents in the game World, navigating through the unread ones in the menu is problematic.

Jesse Faden is summoned to an imposing office building while searching for her lost brother, and pretty soon she finds her way into the mystery of other dimensions and powerful artifacts disguised as everyday objects.

The Oldest House is definitely one of the best locations I can remember from a video game and it holds up everything about the game that might falter. Exploring each of the sections and uncovering all of the mysteries made for an awesome experience, for sure!

On the other hand, the characters came off little silly-being quirky or weird for the sake of it. None of them are particularly memorable or interesting.

The powers were fantastic, though! Flying around or throwing objects with telekinesis is always fun. It can be a bit frustrating to try and solve a puzzle without knowing that you need to acquire a specific power first. Not a huge deal, though.

There are also quite a few great accessibility options in the settings that made the game way less frustrating for someone like me who was mostly playing for the story. I definitely think that more games should go in this direction for my own sanity.

The ending was definitely half-baked. It really felt abrupt and there was no closure at all. I'm looking forward to the DLC to see if that wraps up the story and I will update my review accordingly.

I'm thinking of the game and its experiences while not playing it which is the mark of a product that has serious impact. For me, getting something that has a sense of supernatural to it and a little more exploration-based compared to the typical annual shooters, like the increasingly-boring Call of Duty series, Apex Legends after nearly 3 years, etc., this has been a refreshing title to visit. I got onto it because it was on Game Pass and though it doesn't take advantage of the Series X whatsoever, it's still a fantastic game to play. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something that has a challenge to it and won't play like every other shooter out there right now. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I went into Control not expecting much. I've been trying games recently that got lower reviews, or less attention than others. Initially for the first 5 minutes or so I was thinking Control was going to be another Myst type puzzle game. Then the first psychological thing hits. You circle around an upstairs area until you meet a janitor. He tells you to go straight and up an elevator. Low and behold going straight takes you back to where you started and there's now an elevator. However minutes before there was no way to venture this way. BRIEF overview of the world in the game there are things called Altered World Events, they can create Objects Of Power, think of the spear of destiny that peirced Jesus. The game had decent combat mechanics, and a decent narrative. All in all this is what games like Quantum Break could have been. I've seen others saying this game was a metroidvania, I didn't see the parallel that they did unless it's the gaining of new powers. It's more akin to an rpg without a level system. You gain mods, and powers by exploring not by levels. As for graphics the game is by far one of the best visually of the former generation. Others are legit complaining about dialogue and they didn't connect with the characters. For me it was the opposite, I grew up watching the XFiles and this very much felt like playing a female version of Mulder. People also complain about an abrupt ending, I get that but that also is a marketing scheme to allow for DLC and a sequel/prequel. I'd love to see more done with this franchise. Pros
    Good story driven game
    Good combat Decently hard encounters
    Psychologically messes with you Cons
    Sometimes the game can lag
    Video playback issues
Coming out of options etc drops framerate for a few seconds

Awesome game. Gorgeous style, perfect work with locations and light, great SCP atmosphere, interesting story, mind-blowing destructions of everything. Gameplay simply the best I've seen for a long time. Please, more games like this! So tired from donate-oriented multiplayer no soul games, so Control is fresh breathe out there.

I feel Remedy always let their concept artists down. The game is so stylish but misses the mark in most other areas.

Its incredibly fun once you get to hurl objects everywhere. The physics, overall, are just fun to mess with. Sadly though, the puzzles are either incredibly easy or can be solved by just brute force. The setting is a brilliant concept. The plot offers an immediate sense of mystery. However, the level design is never particularly accommodating to interesting discoveries or exploration and the plot quickly solves its mysteries only to give you new ones. I quickly found myself confused over what i was working towards. It certainly wasn't the protagonist's story, who is boring and uninspired to play as. The enemies have some variety, but they almost all look the same. The game even re-uses the same boss fight twice. The game's framerate drops for about 3 seconds whenever you un-pause or bring up the map, which suggests the game isn't as well optimised as it should be; especially considering i've played over 12 months after its release. The sound design and soundtrack is pretty good though!

I'm not convinced Remedy want to make games. I feel they dream of making a "Twin Peaks"-style TV show. They'd need to figure how to write interesting characters first though. In fairness, Control is their best game to date. Its stylish and the physics are endlessly enjoyable.

I haven’t had this much fun exploring and learning about the world in a game in such a long time. By FAR my favorite part of this game is the world in which it takes place. The game is so wildly imaginative and the environments are so well done in the game I couldn’t help but just explore every nook and cranny and find as many of the many, many collectibles as possible to learn as much as I could about it. I can safely say, this is one of the most detailed, creative, and well thought out settings I ‘ve ever encountered in a game. I loved every second of talking to NPC’s, reading and watching the collectibles, and doing all of the side quests I could find. There is so much packed in here as far as world building it is almost too much to take in.

The gameplay is similar to many other action rpg’s and while not spectacular, the combat is fluid and enjoyable. It’s an over the shoulder shooter and while it does tend to get a bit repetitive with never ending spawns of enemies if you stick around long enough but fortunately it doesn’t hinder you too much if you don’t feel like engaging with all of them. You will use basically one gun the entire game (there are some different versions of it, but none of them are really that different from each other) but the bread and butter of the game are the powers you will acquire throughout. You can upgrade the powers you prefer and really tailor the character to your playstyle and by the end you will feel like an unstoppable super hero.

My gripes with this game are few and far between. For one, there is no difficulty in the game. So you may find it too easy or too hard and there isn’t anything you can do about it. I found the difficulty to be pretty easy but the gameplay wasn’t what really drew me in anyway so I didn’t mind too much. The other issue I had with the game was the significant stuttering and slow down. When going in and out of menus there was tremendous slow down and stuttering. Other times when there were a lot of enemies on screen or large explosions or some other drain, I experienced similar problems.

In short, if you enjoy sci fi/fantasy story heavy games that allow you to explore at your own pace and really soak in the atmosphere give this a go. This game teeters on the edge of a survival horror as well so if you enjoy those it may be for you as well. If you aren’t much for story and just want a heart pounding thriller of a game with pulse quickening action, you may want to pass.

When we heard that the guys on Remedy are working in a new game, isn't too much difficult expect a good thing; was this way since Max Payne, and with this one shouldn't be different.

Even don't being THE game to please most people nowdays, it is much enjoyable with its simple but still fun mechanics full of powers, exploration and a plot filled with dark secrets, mystery, some sarcastic humor and twists - sometimes literally twists.

The OST is another point that can't pass unnoticed if you have ears. It's marvelous and, again, Remedy bring back some Poets of The Fall songs to this - one under the name of their previous know on Remedy games "Old Gods of Asgard" - to hit the big score delivering an experience that is much more than just run and gun like we can think sometimes when playing it.

I didn't think I would like this game as much as I did, but it's a semi-open-world game where you basically have Jedi powers (which are thematically supernatural in origin). After a certain point in the game you have a lot of free-roaming ability with some sections blocked off by access cards, which are acquired through the main story quests. But ultimately you can just run around killing supernatural baddies, completing side quests, and engaging in random pop-up events. It's easy to keep entertained while playing.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this game. The only reason it's not a 10 for me is that the main story wasn't as... I want to say it wasn't as easy to follow as I would have liked, but I get it's not supposed to be easy to follow this kind of story, that's just how the game is. Rather, it's one of those games where you generally seem to get more questions than answers and that left the end of the game feeling a little too unfinished, story-wise, for my tastes.

There is no difficulty setting, which makes this game unenjoyable for some, like me. I gave it up at Tommasi. Also the saving system (which is non-existing) makes the experience painful. After every death you end up somewhere in the way too complex office labyrinth and you have to navigate through the unnecessarily overcomplicated corridors. The whole thing feels very outdated. All round solid game, good combat system, good exploration, excellent destructive environment and decent story. Graphics and frames aren't the best but acceptable.

Amazing game. The story is one fo the best in the medium, you can notice influences from filmmakers such as David Lynch to Nolan. Sadly, it has some performance problems but still an amazing experience. As negative notes, The side quests are quite poor and the gunplay could be more refined.

The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because it has some fps and rendering issues. But still a great game and really enjoyable and fun to play.

I love Remedy's games cause they always really nail on their thick storyline with so much to give to for the players with a moderate side quests and an incredible graphic. The gameplay is very pleasant and the story looks confused in the beginning, but makes sense as we play.

Expand

Too many side subjects, texts that contain the background of the main story and require a lot of time to read. Even if you read everything, the whole story will not be complete again. There are two additional DLCs, which explain a little about all the events in the agency, but they are paid. Frequent repetitions of exactly the same opponents, as well as going through the same areas of the agency over and over again, are extremely frustrating. As for physics and shooting, short, brilliant! Remedy is the absolute champion in that segment. The best and most realistic shooting feeling in gaming history. The gameplay is exceptional, with many abilities providing unlimited ways to interact with objects and enemies. The design of the game is great, but at times the graphics look extremely bad, pale and blurry. There is a lack of budget. Minus the charge for the next-gen update.

    SRB:
Najbolji i najrealističniji osećaj pucanja u gaming istoriji.

    Gameplay

A fairly standard TPS with little weapon variety. The one weapon is the service weapon which is a pistol, it does have different forms that will make it similar to a shotgun or hand cannon but this is only in look and as such it still acts as a pistol. There is a modification system with the weapon that can give minor buffs to the gun or to health and such, there are also these mods for yourself for the same thing. Enemies in the game lack variety and are essentially your standard zombie-type enemies present in many games, while some of them do interesting things like throw rubble at you it effectively just serves as a long-range option. The player does have superhero-like abilities which are actually pretty neat, the launch ability, for example, allows you to pick up pretty much anything on the map and throw it at people with a force power, this ability feels great to use and is a whole lot of fun. However a problem with this ability is that it is imprecise as a result of how much can be picked up, it can be hard to pick up a certain item you want which can be extremely frustrating and even lead to death if you were planning to throw a grenade back at the enemy. This problem was especially prevalent in a particular boss fight about halfway through the game. The shield ability is fantastic, I have no issues with this and it is the best of the abilities you get, the ability upgrades for it make it possible to be a weapon as well and offer extra protection and some unique combat options. Evade is a simple dodge. Levitate is a floating ability that should be really cool but it works so strangely that it is oftentimes not a lot of fun. For some reason the game severely limits how high you can go with the levitate, this makes it frustrating to platform as if you are not in the exact right spot when you levitate you won’t get enough height to get to the platform, this is annoying if there is a platform beneath youtube land on and frustrating if there is no floor and doing so will result in death. Difficulty in the game comes from enemies being bullet sponges, as you get further in the game enemies will have more health thus increasing the difficulty. This way of having difficulty increase is not interesting at all and is just painful to play through especially with rather generic combat. Exploration is a big part of the game and how you get lore in the game and for the most part, the exploration is pretty good with some interesting areas.

    Story

The story is one of the worst aspects of Control, it follows Jesse Faden finally arriving at the FBC to hunt for her brother Dylan. The story quickly goes off the rails as a force called The Hiss invades and Jesse becomes The Director. Next, Jesse must help the FBC get the situation under control to unlock more of the building to lead to Dylan. The world is an incredibly interesting SCP-like world with anomalies and strange items, the setup is incredible as it seems that there are limitless possibilities with this set-up, the lore even features the standard redacted documents like on the SCP wiki. This is why it is so disappointing when the story is just a basic zombie story with a corrupting influence, they could’ve done anything and choose the most boring option, the lore of the game is more interesting than the main story. The characters featured in the main story, with some exceptions, are incredibly one-note and boring. Jesse for example has few emotions and a quirk where she will talk to herself essentially to comment on things that are currently happening in the game, these monologues are quite jarring and really take away from the experience as what is said are things easily deduced or completely unnecessary to have explained. Dylan is an even worse offender of this getting absolutely no build-up or connection to the main character. The game tells us we should care for Dylan but doesn’t show us why, a big part of the game’s story revolves around a specific incident from Jesse and Dylan’s childhood but we never see or experience this event as the player, it is only talked about and alluded to mainly in the optional collectibles, it is completely baffling that they would not have this very important incident be something playable or at least in a cutscene. The game attempts to set up a potential twist where The Hiss might actually be a good thing and the FBC might be the evil ones, however, this idea only shows up halfway through the game after you’ve spent hours working with the FBC and having them help you save people and them help you out, it is so jarring and not set up at all that it is completely unbelievable that The Hiss would actually be good. The set-up of the story is so good but the payoff and actually story and how it is presented fall short.

    Conclusion

Control is a game of missed potential, I wouldn’t recommend buying it.

Very well done. Be prepared to make sure you pay full attention and nobody or nothing is around to distract you. It's a story that is weird but told well. Graphics are amazing and the gameplay is awesome, especially once you upgrade her abilities.

Control is set in an enormous paranormal world that is great for exploration. The combat system is so satisfying, even though, it gets repetitive from time to time. Control feels a bit unfinished. You expect to get the answers to all your questions but the ending came more quickly and abruptly than I would have liked.

Control has that signature Remedy feel to it, from its unique combat to its completely out there narrative, something only Sam Lake could be a part of. Although the story is Control’s strongest asset, it will take a lot of concentration and thought to piece it all together, as I’ve still got many questions even after the credits have rolled. Luckily you can continue Jesse’s journey once completed, allowing you to finish up any sidequests and other activities as we wait on the upcoming DLC that will hopefully answer more questions. Welcome to the FBC Director.

Control is Remedy's most daring work. A courageous level design that encourages exploration and limits visual guides is mixed with fierce combat. In the second half, this combate can be somewhat monotonous and repetitive. Its story is neither the best nor is it told in the best way. Quite the opposite of its setting, which seduces the player with shocking scenarios and situations.
