    Both the visuals and sound design have been done really well and without a doubt they fit the game play that’s present extremely well. I found the combat to be extremely enjoyable throughout my time with the game and it also has depth as well thanks to the upgrades you can use. There is a great selection of enemies for you to face along the way and the added variety here keeps things fresh and interesting for longer. They have got the perfect balance of being fair and challenging when it comes to the gameplay which in turn meant that I hardly ever got frustrated. Traversing through the rather large areas always felt rewarding because there’s a decent amount of secrets to be found in the nooks and crannies. I got confused a few times and sometimes it was difficult to find where you had to go next which was a little tedious. The controls didn’t always feel as responsive as they should’ve been which was also a bit annoying. I’ve heard a lot of good things about Chasm from a number of people and this was definitely a game I was looking forward to and thankfully I'm pleased to say that it didn’t disappoint. Throughout my time with the game it delivered a lot of fun and enjoyable moments and I really enjoyed how they made the gameplay fair and challenging at the same time. Another thing that makes this game stand out is the variety that’s present in a number of areas. This variety keeps things fresh and interesting throughout and each different enemy was a pleasure to defeat when in combat. Speaking about the combat I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised by how much depth it had and when you combine that with the many upgrades you find along the way then you find that boredom never really comes to the surface. Another thing that keeps boredom away is the rewarding feeling when traversing the vast areas, but be warned you will more than likely get lost quite a few times which can be a little annoying. That being said in terms of problems Chasm doesn’t really have many at all and the problems it does have are only small and don’t really make much of an impact. This then means recommending Chasm is very easy because it provides you with a fun and rewarding experience from start to finish.… Expand

    What Bit Kid does with Chasm is ambitious. I'm impressed that the procedural generation is so well executed. The problem is the procedural generation, on its own, does nothing to distinguish an otherwise relatively bland and by the numbers take on the Metroidvania genre. Add to that a few frustrations with the control and lack of variety in the game, and what we get is a game which might be worth checking out if you're really looking for a new game in the genre, but you'd likely be better off checking out the myriad of superior options which have been released in the last few years.

    In another year with less competition, I would have given Chasm a higher score because it’s a mechanically strong, if often frustrating addition to the metroidvania genre. The thing is, it’s 2018 and there are better examples out there right now that make it hard for me to ignore the chasm-sized flaws in its design.
