Regarlesss here comes Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, the sixth title in developer Treyarch’s series of conspiracy filled historical franchise, this time taking us to the dawn of the Reagan era and channelling movies such as Apocalypse Now. As ever for Call Of Duty, you’re not getting one game this time but several as an action movie single player experience, a range of multiplayer competitive options, and the co-op horde mode, and my long time favorite mode Zombies. The campaign follows a group of top secret government operatives tracking down a Soviet agent named Perseus who wants to destroy Europe, it’s short, sharp, and a bit perfunctory. There are thrilling sequences such as a raid on the KGB headquarters that’s set up like a Hitman style level, and a few moments where the story branches depending on the player’s choices for a change of pace. There are also some enticing references to previous Black Ops characters and plots, which will be noted by fans. However we don’t get anything truly fresh. Mostly, this is comprised of what I call Call Of Duty campaign staples, for example helicopter crashes, escaping to rooftops, waiting for evacuations, calling in airstrikes, and taking temporary control of an aircraft chain-guns. What’s really disappointing is that the soundtrack and environmental design make little effort to capitalize on the early 1980s setting. The Black Ops titles have always been great at cultural references, matching pop music to its bombastic action in highly enjoyable ways, but apart from some grainy news footage of Reagan speeches and an admittedly wonderful scene set in an amusement arcade, there’s little nostalgic revelry in the era. How can there be a scene set in Berlin in 1981 without high impact music from the era? Clearly multiplayer is the focus, and all the usual modes are here, along with newcomers including VIP Escort, where you have to protect one player until you’re able to airlift them out while the other team attacks, and Fireteam: Dirty Bomb, where teams of four players compete to gather uranium and set off bombs in an Alpine setting. These are acceptable if rather chaotic diversions, but old faves such as Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Search and Destroy remain paramount, offering blisteringly fast, super-intense combat with a range of simulated real-world guns that feel deadly and responsive. Maps such as Checkmate, set in an aircraft hangar, and Moscow, which winds through the grand, rainy streets of the Russian capital, are vintage CoD: tight, with excellent verticality and lots of open chokepoints for those enthralling multi-kill encounters. It’s a shame there aren’t a few more experimental venues, and some less well-known weapons, but it’s a solid offering for fans of the CoD style of virtual gunplay. Zombies is set in an abandoned Nazi science research base in Poland, it’s typically exciting, nerve-shredding stuff as you leg it around the crumbling corridors and wreckage-strewn exteriors, trying to find better weapons while being pursued by plutonium-spewing boss baddies. This time round you can choose to extract your team alive from a level, earning bonuses as you go, it feels unusual, however it’s a good addition, allowing team mates to bask in the thrill of a hard fought final escape vs the all day match for people like myself who have a solid team of zombie training experts. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War does everything it needs to with polish and zeal, and those who plan to spend the next year leveling up through its multiplayer ranks won’t be disappointed Given how disruptive March’s battle-royale Call of Duty game Warzone has been, both as a competitor to Fortnite and Apex Legends and as a new meeting place for Call Of Duty fans, Cold War could definitely have used some additional innovation. The campaign hints at it, and the 1981 setting offered much promise, but, sadly, this is not the subversive 80’s throwback shooter I was waiting for. This is still an excellent entry and I am being tough on the seasoned franchise. I personally am one of the few who hasn’t fallen head over heals in love with the likes of Fortnite and the much better Apex Legends. This is still more than worthy for Xbox console owners to add to their ever growing libraries. The game scene is evolving, the next generation has arrived and it will be interesting to see what direction the Call Of Duty franchise takes in the series’ future offerings. Expand

If you only casually play Call of Duty, this game probably won't interest you as it is not trying to make too many major game play alterations or push graphical fidelity. Also, if Modern Warfare 2019 is your idea of a great CoD multiplayer game, you most likely won't enjoy Cold War. This game is a fast paced arcade style FPS, while Modern Warfare was trying to implement more elements of a slow paced tactical shooter.

A major drawback has been the amount of menu UI and progression tracking bugs that are very frustrating. Treyarch is somewhat know for this unfortunately. These will be cleared up quite soon however, so I'm not too worried about them. There also seems to be a return of skill based matchmaking which is frustrating. It is difficult for me to maintain a K/D of only 1.5, and my win ratio is just barely over 1.0. But, maybe my FPS skills are just waning in my old age.

The Zombies mode seems like it has potential. I'm really not a fan of the game holding your hand through the easter egg though. I've been struggling to get motivation to play this mode.

I would rate the multiplayer a 9.7, but the bugs, SBMM and zombies drop the score a little bit. I would rate it an 8.7 in it's current state.

The campaign is one of the best single player FPS experiences I've played in ages. The story is extremely intriguing and full of unexpected twists and turns, also conditioned from the players choice, that is an innovation that CoD only benefitted from. I've only had one playthrough of the story so far so I've only managed to see one of the endings, but I'll definitely be going for a second run when I have the time. I may be wrong but it seemed there were many more stealth missions mixed into the classic Call of Duty BOOM experience. I appreciate the the new mixture, it feels very fresh and new. The charcters are likeable and are not bland or without goals, although I was a bit bummed that the original voice actor for Woods wasn't brought back to play him. There are also many many references to Black Ops 1 thoughout the story, highlighting that this is a direct sequel to that game. I did not experience *much* lag or any bugs at all during gameplay or the cutscenes. Graphics may not be as clean and as realistic from Modern Warfare but I didn't mind the change.
The multiplayer is, I believe, where most people had complaints, particularly on the 'lack of realism' and the infamous skill-based matchmaking. By lack of realism everyone is comparing Cold War once again to Modern Warfare. Cold War was designed to be a more classic arcady-type CoD that we are used to seeing, and is appealing towards the audiences that prefer a more fast-paced, chaotic experience, while Modern Warfare was designed to be slow, tactical and realistic. The weapons are fun and fairly balanced, despite the snipers seeming slower. I feel that all the weapons have a chance, of course there will always be overpowered guns (MP5 and Gallo), but It looks to me as if every weapon has a chance, pistols included. This means that most gunfights are based on skill, which leads me to my next point: Skill-Based Matchmaking. The bain of this game. I also admit I do not like this aspect of the game, and find it unfair that just because I play very well in one game I get my a*s wooped for the six games after that. The killstreak system is... new. I don't hate it, It's new and I actually don't mind it. The killstreaks themselves are extremely fun to use, expected from a CoD game, you have your standard areal support like Spy Planes and Counter Spy Planes, but the lethal streaks are just amazing. Everything from the RC-XD to the Chopper Gunner to the AC-130. Probably the most fun you could possibly have with a killstreak. Also an addition the this roster are lethal handheld weapons like the Combat Bow and War Machine, that used to be specialist abilities as far as I remember. The maps are probably one of the top 3 things in the multiplayer, Satellite and Armada my favourite, without taking in consideration Nuketown '84. All of the maps look amazing but I don't like how some of them play, like Miami: truly beautiful map, not so beautiful gameplay. The class customization is nice, I like most of it. The gunsmith is a little dissappointing (MW flashback), but other things managed to fill the rest of the empty space.
Final point: Zombies. I'll be very clear: I started playing Call of Duty because of Zombies and am a proud member the Zombies community, I am not a Zombies pro, I just prefer it much more over multiplayer. The Cold War approach on Zombies is probably one of the best since Black Ops 3. The classic perks are back and now you can get all of them, or at least all of them on the current map available. I like the fact that you can spawn with a premade loadout, but i don't love it, altough you can choose to spawn with a bare 1911 if you wanted a more 'classic' experience. Again all the weapons feel usable, also thanks to the rarity and the ability to upgrade said rarity with salvage recovered from dead enemies. Pack-a-Punch is simple and clean and finally you can choose the ammo mod you want without having to Pack over and over and over... The boss Zombie of Die Maschine is a bit annoying, but I don't mind him most of the time. The new Wonder Weapon is extremely fun to use and the various upgrandes are equally enjoyable (Ice and Fire are the best, no discussion) and the Ray Gun is back and has never been more powerful. The field upgrades are a nice addition that can help to get out of some difficult situation or just be a fun way to exterminatus. The map is beautifully designed and just beautiful in general, training areas are many to choose from and almost everything can be vaulted, making it much simpler to train. Exfil is the final aspect and is fantastic: don't want to continue? No more having to quit, now you can exfil. And the fact that you have to complete a challenge is really fun. I love this take on Zombies.
And this is my opinion on CoD: Black Ops Cold War

As a original black ops player in my eyes BO CW did a fantastic job bringing the Black Ops games back to its former roots after futuristic **** came. I enjoyed the campaign multiplayer and zombies but my main issue of BO CW is the constant freezing and crashes you could tell they rushed this for a November release the first day I got BO CW I had over 5 freezes and crashes

    UPDATE:
As my understanding of the multiplayer patents filed by Activision and testing done by YouTubers who love to crunch data grows on the SBMM issue I'm lowering my score to a 1. Seriously, any company that makes a system that punishes you for playing better is idiotic. The games where I've struggled I've noticed my ping over 100ms and it consistently happens after a series of good or even average games. To know they don't prioritize connection is frustrating.

I was hoping for more. It fixed a lot of things that I hated about MW but managed to negate those fixes by creating other issues.
Keep in mind my review is heavily based on multiplayer. The campaign is fine but the bulk of game play is based around the multiplayer where I spend the majority of my time like many other players.

Cross play is back. Pros: You can play with your friends on other platforms like in MW so there is no need to worry about not being able to play with your friend on PC or PS4/5. Con: Game chat is horrible in this game especially in cross play. It is distorted 90% of the time making call outs and basic communication hard.

Footsteps in multiplayer have been reduced. It no longer sounds like you are running with clogs on. However, sound design in this game sucks period. It's hard to tell if enemies are above, below, left, or right of you. Explosions and gun fire are all less than satisfying. MW had this portion of the game right but Cold War falls flat here.

Map design is better and yet worse at the same time. While the maps aren't designed to be rewarding to corner campers like in MW the map design lends itself to more medium to long range exchanges. There are long lines of sight in this game on many maps leading people to sit in the back of spawns and camp in the furtherest corners the can. I'm a run and gun player but can also be patient and methodical when needed. I've found myself doing much more of the latter while equipping every weapon with at least a 2x scope. I've also found the recoil on a lot of guns makes them less than favorable to use leading people to use only a few viable options in game play. Most of the maps are ok but none are great and Garrison is absolute trash for respawn modes.

Servers are not great. You can tell who has a better connection rather quickly. Skill based match making is still a thing and it's terrible and should be removed. The game should have a ranked and non-ranked mode but it figures the devs are not smart enough to do this regardless of how much people ask for it. For example, I currently have a 1.25 K/D in TDM. My K/D is usually low when starting. I don't game hardcore but I'm a decent player and it takes me a minute to unlock everything I need to actually be competitive. Most nights I'll play closer to a 2.0 K/D but I've had multiple nights where every single player on my team will score a 0.5 K/D or lower. All SBMM or team balancing, actually does is frustrate me and other higher skilled players. It's annoying. I don't want to have to drop 30+ kills every game to even have a chance to win.

MW got movement right. Mantling, running, jumping, sliding all felt good in the game. Some how cold war took a step back and everything feels mechanical in the Xbox One version. This might be different on next gen consoles but it's poorly done on the One and PS4.

Graphics are somehow better and worse. Satellite and Miami look good. Garrison and Crossroads don't. To make matters worse, bland coloring in most levels allows players to blend in seamlessly with the background making it extremely hard to pick out players simply standing there. Other character movements look horrible. Character models running look like something you'd see from 2 console generations ago. Climbing and mantling animations are horrible. Cut scene animations look like early last gen graphics. Again, maybe this looks better on next gen consoles but on the PS4/ Xbox One they look dated.

I don't know how, but Activision and their devs always find a way to make the next COD as underwhelming as the previous. They fix on issue and introduce 10 more.

My suggestion, if these issues seem better on the new consoles or PC it might be worth it otherwise skip it unless you can get it on sale or just want to play the campaign and zombies.

Hit boxes are all over the place damage seems to be random, full health enemy’s either die from one shot or are bullet sponges usually the latter probably due to the net code. Movement is awful, the maps are lazy and unfinished I keep getting stuck on random bits of unfinished or invisible Furniture, spawns are ####ed on the smallest maps and you will either get trapped with the opposite team spawn camping you to death or you will get spawn killed repeatedly with nothing you can do about it. The menus don’t work half the time you just see gray blobs where the weapon skin or operator should be. Surprise surprise the only thing that works flawlessly is the in game store, funny that. Match making can take forever. Seems to have taken a massive step backwards from modern warfare.

    I don’t play BR

Zombies good fun easily the best bit of the game, they should just release it as a 10 dollar stand alone game every other year. Could be a good game if they had bothered to finish it before release but why bother, just chuck it out the door and fix it on the fly so we can make a **** zillion dollars. This game sums up all of the problems with modern AAA studios.

The game promotes aggressive and violent behaviour. He's angry almost all the time nowadays because of this game. That's just the beginning. I feel like there's overusage of strong language and swearing.

The violence is extremely brutal and you can even select how you can stab someone. I mean, what the heck!?

I would also like to give Treyarch the benefit of the doubt as they were put in a bad situation for the launch of this game. They had to pick up the launch for Sledgehammer games whose title was not going to be ready, they were making the title that will straddle console (and graphics card) generations, they were making the follow up game behind one of the best Call of Duty games ever, and trying to do all of this during the pandemic. That being said as a stand-alone product I cannot recommend this game for the asking price. I want to start by listing the things I rally like about Black Ops: Cold War (CW from here on). For starters the campaign is good. It’s not the best but it’s stylish, quick, has some replayability, and doesn’t over stay it’s welcome. There is some light decision making and multiple endings ad some spice to the final act. I think that they have dialed back on the ridiculous factor for this title and it genuinely feels better. There are still some “yeah right” moments but it feels like they are there to be comedic relief in response to the all serious all the time campaign of 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot. It doesn’t feel like it’s all Woods one liners all the time and I like that. The Zombies mode makes a return but poor net code and the requirement of four well coordinated players means that it’s just as hit or miss as ever. I have played quite a few matches and stuttering is frequent with early patches resulting in an inability to join games.) If you are coming for the zombies modes specifically I would pass on this game for now as it feels like a severe downgrade from the generous suite of zombies in black ops 4. Then there is the main course, the multiplayer. The state the multiplayer is in right now is pretty shameful but for the reasons at the top of this review I place the blame squarely on Activision for rushing this launch before the American holiday season. There are much fewer guns in CW than last years game and the map design feels off from Treyarch’s typical three lane format, on top of that there are only eight maps at launch. The maps feel very open when compared to the companies previous offerings but the guns do not feel balanced for the layouts. At launch the MP5 was completely broken and more effective than sniper rifles at range. The most egregious offense is the bugs and crashes. One bug prevents all of the magnified scopes from loading in so your crosshairs flicker and dissolve as you try to aim. I also have had the game crash more than 6 times between matches and it hard crashes the console. As it stands now I can’t suggest buying this game let alone for full price; or even half price. As 6v6 MP only player I considered MW 2019 absolutely the worst CoD ever created. It had terrible maps with too many angles, terrible doors, infinite claymores with restock, no dead silence perk, TTK too fast, camping spots(even remastered maps were ruined with them), strong SBMM in casual playlist, washed out graphics etc. It was the only CoD ever I almost refunded. It was like game itself decided if I kill or die.

The last thing I ever wanted from CoD series is realism - the only reason I buy CoD is that it's casual fast paced arcady shooter, so I consider Cold War being huge improvement(to me every single CoD is masterpiece compared to last year MW). It's fast paced, maps are better(but not perfect), perks are more balanced, TTK is little bit slower(but still quite fast), there is just 1 land mine with long CD, game actually has some colors, camping is not the only way to play and it can be countered. It's CoD again and not Insurgency clone made for CoD haters and realism seekers. First 10 hours I had flawless experience - it reminded me times of BO1 and BO2 which are my most favorite CoD games. I wanted to go for 8+ rating but then thick skill based matchmaking kicked in and it ruined my experience with game little bit(and little bit more). Hard campers and sweats started to often fill my lobbies again(but at least whole game is not designed only for them). There should be casual playlist with weak or none SBMM and ranked with this kind of SBMM with ranks and extra rewards. Also on some maps there are flashing textures(sand on Satelite, mountains on Cartel). This was not happening on beta. There are also small bugs here and there like unlockable calling cards are not saved when you pick them. Another problem is lack of 6v6 maps on release so for now its like 6.5/10 for me untill everything is fixed. After that and when they add more maps it would be like 7.5/10. If they add also ranked and nerf SBMM in casual playlist I would go even for 8.5/10 easily. No performance problems at all on my side, runs exactly as MW (i7-7700k+1080Ti), 80-100 fps 1440p maxed out(tested MP only)

EDIT: Changed rating from 7 to 2 just because of SBMM... It's not objective but I just can't do this anymore. I like game itself in general (much more than MW) but I absolutely refuse to sweat each and every single game to my maximum potential just to keep 1,2+ k/d in CASUAL playlist. I am not ranked player in any game - I HATE e-sport and ranked tryhard-meta trend, only reason I was playing COD was because it's casual MP game and it's not anymore. Game offers absolutely no choice in this matter, no ranked vs quick match playlist, there is only ranked without rank. Burn in hell for ruining this casual MP series and otherwise good game with system like this. I hope at least Battlefield will never give up on completly random server list system... I always liked COD more but this is just unbearable. Game itself decide who and when will do well or terrible in each match, not player skill. You had 2 good matches? Bad for you, next 2 you will be annihilated... You suck in 2 matches? Well, here is your candy - you will be rewarded with some easy game next. This is not even multiplayer, it's just singleplayer with adaptive difficulty with players carefully picked instead of bots.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Campaign:

If you include all of the side dialogue and puzzles then this game is as long as your typical Call of Duty campaign, which is short. Once you've played it once and learned the puzzles, this game becomes even shorter. Some of the missions are decent, but overall most of the missions felt lacking. There is a huge emphasis on stealth missions, where it's fun on the first playthrough, but i fail to see the replay value. Sure there are choices, but most are inconsequential with the exception of the final ending choice. The game introduces multiple new characters, and brings back some old classics. Almost every new character is pretty much forgettable, and at the end of the game you still barely know anything about the main character "Bell" and the main villain "Perseus". The classic characters they bring back were also awful representations of the characters we have grown to love. Hudson is still mostly the same, but they changed alot with Mason and Woods, mostly Woods. Not only are the voice actors different, but the way the characters act alot of the game don't feel like the same characters from the previous iterations. Woods constant attemtps of humor with cringe one-liners, are enough to make me cringe as hard as watching Tik Tok video cringe compilations. Mason seems to be more serious, which is like the old character, however the dialogue he has doesn't feel the same as the old. Before he had more of a darker more threatening vibe to him. He acted more like a battle hardened veteran who wasn't afraid to call out BS. This time around he seems to be alot more loose with his attitude, and doesn't come across as tough as before. The main plot is basically a mix ripoff of Black Ops 1 and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, but far worse. The pacing, especially near the endgame started to feel rushed as well. The "ambush" ending shootout was laughable. You set up an ambush where you're supposed to kill off your team including the two beloved Black Ops characters, and how does Raven Software make it happen? By basically putting you in a regular shootout with about a dozen shooters on each side, and if you shoot your team they ragdoll when they die. This ending had so much potential, but it felt wasted. Perhaps it was due to the development issues and rushing of the game. This is by far the worst campaign of the Black Ops series and I prefer to pretend it didn't happen.

    Multiplayer:

Compared to previous games in the Call of Duty series, this game is definitely lacking in game modes and maps. No casual party game modes either such as gun game, sticks n stones, one in the chamber, infection, etc. There were only a total of 8 maps before they included Nuketown, and the majority of those maps aren't that good. They're visually pretty, but a mess. They didn't "flow" as well as older maps in the series. The multiplayer also has cross-platforming, giving PC players an advantage, and they once again added skill based matchmaking. SBMM alone ruins the multiplayer for me. Also, the game is once again plagued with quickscoping, shotguns, and flashbangs galore. The multiplayer is so barebones, which is unfortunate because I felt like it had alot of potential. Possibly this is also due to the development issues and rushing.

    Zombies:

Though there are some changes to the formula, zombies is still largely the same as it has been. Something of which, I have been bored of for the last 8 years. I appreciate the new additions, and the game mode is a decent time, but still ends up being the typical zombie's experience: repetitive, full of unnecessarily convoluted easter eggs. If only they can bring back my excitement for the side modes like Ghosts did with Extinction.

    Conclusion:

This game is the worst one of the entire Black Ops series. I will pretend it never existed and stick to just playing Black Ops 1, 2, and 3.

That's when the game decided to end and I found myself stuck in the menu, unable to exit it, while I could hear the end of game stuff playing in the background. I actually had no other recourse but to manually quit the game from the Xbox menu. As a result I got no XP for the match.

I pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition and despite the beta being a little rocky I had hopes they would fix the issues for launch. They quite obviously did not (MP5 is still broken, for example) and now I'm very seriously considering refunding this and going back to Modern Warfare/Warzone.

Multiplayer: I’ve played these games annually for longer than I would like to admit. This installment gives me BO1/2 vibes and is nice to vector away from the Modern Battlefield Warfare previous installment. My largest complaint is simply where is the rest of the game? $70 for a backwards compatible version that has a fraction of the depth of previous BO titles. Limited Maps/Modes/ and customization. Bottom line: when it works it can be entertaining but you may be better off waiting until they offer $60-$90 worth of content because as of now it is not there.

That they couldn’t just put on the disc… downloading multiplayer and zombies makes sense because its primarily online.. but a 4 hour long campaign, it’s a joke…
I for one do understand why so many people love call of duty, its multiplayer, and thankfully its just as fun here as its ever been with all of its modes outside of team deathmatch.. that’s usually my favorite mode, but I just wasn’t feeling the maps this year in deathmatch, but I had an absolute blast anyway for hours playing that ultra addicting, spawn shoot die gameplay, and its been a hwile since ive played a call of duty game.. since ww2.. so im not sure if these things are new but I am loving the instant respawns here on the next gen.. and I also appreciate that camping snipers have a little reflection to give away their location.. ive never been a fan of zombies mode, its obviously here.. I cant fairly critique it as it just isn’t my thing… but the main reason I play a call of duty game, at least in my currently life where I don’t have the time to sink days into multiplayer is the campaign.. but thankfully I do have the fun and addictive multiplayer to play through while it takes more hours to download than it does to actually play…
Here you play as yourself, during the cold war, and the campaign actually started with tons of promise.. I wouldn’t mind if every year we got a well told 3-4 hour long story full of amazing set pieces and a mind blowing experience to compliment the fun multiplayer, and this campaign had its moments, it felt like an interactive movie with great moments and missions, some of the best stealth missions ive ever experienced in a first person shooter, but halfway through the campaign just falls apart, it becomes generic first person shooter level design and story telling, theres even a section of the game here youre redoing the same thing like 5 times in a row… that’s how much you can tell the creative juices have evaporated after an impressive start.. I didn’t want to stop playing, but I had to to let part 2 download… such a let down…
Call of Duty is what it is…
You know what youre going to get every year…
it never changes outside of the setting..and this is where the let down comes into play
Im personaly okay with a little 4 hour journey each year, but please put a little more effort and see that effort through, especially if again,, its only going to be 4 hours… it better be solid.
But at least you have some new maps to play with.

This game has the potential to be something great but there are some big problems holding it down. First of all the multiplayer. This game has the potential to be something great but there are some big problems holding it down. First of all the lack of content is terrible, at launch, there were 8 6v6 multiplayer maps, only 8, and 2 of them were scaled-down versions of other maps from another game mode. It would be fine if they were 8 or 6 solid maps but no, in my opinion, there were only 3 good maps, Satellite, Moscow, and Checkmate, and yes I know that this was made during a pandemic but then why didn't you just push it back, why? While I'm writing this review it is season 2 and season 2 brought us 2 new guns and 1 new 6v6 map. Only 1 map. Now I have to talk about arguably the worst part of this game, skill-based matchmaking. Now I don't think that SBMM is all bad, there should be a little bit of it, but this is unacceptable. If you are a good player you are punished by being put in lobbies with people try-harding as if their life depends on it. Now as a casual player this is just not fun, but I know some people love the competitive aspect of the game and so that's why they added in league play... But it is terrible. So first of all even though there is league play for competitive they still have heavy SBMM in regular multiplayer lobbies which doesn't really make sense and the league play ranking system is very flawed. It doesn't matter on your skill level which rank you are, it matters how much you play. And so you have some pro players being put in the lowest rank and other less skilled players being put in the higher ranks. Leauge play and multiplayer is just an overall bad gamemode even though it's supposed to be the real main focus of the game. Now the most positive part, zombies. I love cod zombies and I think this game did deliver on it in most ways. It is definitely the best zombies since BO3, I love all the new features they have added, like loadouts, scorestreaks, and more, The 2 new zombies maps are also very solid in my opinion, but like I just said there are only 2 maps. Now even though they are 2 solid maps we just need more. The game's best game mode has been out for 4ish months and has 2 maps, that's just not good. Another problem I have is the operators, part of the charm of the old zombie's games was the funny and cool operators, I loved the funny lines they would have when you buy a perk or kill a zombie, but in cold war, you play as multiplayer operators, and they are the most boring operators ever. They have no charm or sense of humor and it's not very fun in that aspect. They really should have a funny crew like primis, but right now they don't. When I am writing this the new zombie's mode outbreak came out and I haven't played a lot of it so I can't give it a full review but my first impressions are that it's ok. The trials you do get repetitive after a while but it is a pretty good game mode overall from my first impressions. So now we go onto the campaign. (I will not use spoilers in this.) The campaign is pretty good. I love the black ops story and this just expands it. The story and new characters are awesome, I love the new ways you can use an enemy as a body shield or assassinate him. Another cool part of this story is that there are 3 endings and they are not really different it is a very cool touch. All the missions are good and my favorite is one where you can complete the mission in 4 different ways, that's just awesome, and overall the campaign is great. So now the whole game is ok, the main part the multiplayer is the weakest part, it is just not very fun. But the other game modes are fun and is a-ok game, not the weakest or strongest call of duty. This is the game that has made me stop buying/playing any call of duty game ever again. The gaming industry needs to be moderated and not just a pathetic rating of what age groups are allowed to purchase and play because nobody enforces that.
We are consumers and should have the right to complain about a poorly made and corrupt game. I would class the actions of the developer's as

Don't buy anymore Call of duty games if this is the crap they are producing. Good bye Call of duty. Never in my life will I buy another game by you.

One of the best Call of Duty games in long time. It had kind of bad launch, but it's way better now. Can't wait for COD 2021, hopefully WW 2 !!!

If you're trying to get this game for the multiplayer don't... this game is nothing more than a gigantic waste of you time and money

The skill based matchmaking makes the multiplayer unbearable to play you can win like 1 or 2 games but then you're gonna get like 8 bad games in a row It's not fun it's frustrating and absolutely stressful most of the matches they don't feel like a video

The team balancing is awful and the aim assist doesn't work half the time

Unless Activision changes or remove skill based matchmaking I am not trusting them with my money ever again

The campaing is very short, bad optimization and lack of arguments history telling. The truth is that the only great Call of duty is Black ops 1 and 2, the others are junk.

If they had given this game an extra year of development, it could've been a masterpiece. Unfortunately, the game feels like it was too rushed. Campaign is really good and one of the best recent COD campaigns. Zombies is also really good. Unfortunately the multiplayer is somewhat lacking. The gameplay is solid, but most of the maps are poorly designed. Overall I'd consider this game aboveIf they had given this game an extra year of development, it could've been a masterpiece. Unique campaign that combines a first person shooter and puzzles to make a one of a kind story. Best zombies to date with many maps, an option to exfil, and has a new crafting element to it. Good multiplayer all around. Many people do not like the multiplayer due to skill based match making, but personally I do not experience it much. Black Ops Cold War keeps the standard high despite the difficulties of development this year and continues to be one of this year's must-have shooters.

For some reason, I always have a preconceived notion that I won't enjoy this year's Call of Duty. How can a series that releases every single year without fail possibly maintain a consistent quality bar? There are detractors who'd say it doesn't, but let's be honest – it does. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is very good.
