    Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is a Paper Art Turn-Based Timing-Driven Adventure RPG. You play as Vi, a Bee, Kabbu a Beetle, and Leif, a Moth. You acquire Leif quite Early, and this remains your team throughout the game. The Ant Queen wants you to embark on a quest to find the Everlasting Sapling, a magical plant that can grant its' owner eternal life. And as short as a bugs lifespanBug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is a Paper Art Turn-Based Timing-Driven Adventure RPG. You play as Vi, a Bee, Kabbu a Beetle, and Leif, a Moth. You acquire Leif quite Early, and this remains your team throughout the game. The Ant Queen wants you to embark on a quest to find the Everlasting Sapling, a magical plant that can grant its' owner eternal life. And as short as a bugs lifespan is, I can see where that would be an enticing possession. The game is in every 2D sprite the spiritual successor to the original Paper Mario RPG games. From the charming and quirky dialogue to the over the top colors, Bug Fables succeeds to capture the heart and essence of those classic games. This beautiful art of 2D in a 3D world is also where I found my only complications, as you can have a hard time judging the distance of some jumps, and the game is loaded with platforming. You can change your lead character at any time with the press of a button, and each of the three characters has their own ability the can use to interact with the overworld. Vi can activate switches with a boomerang, and Lief can freeze water to make blocks and bridges. Combat is typical Turn-Based combat, with a timing minigame to enhance your attacks or block incoming attacks If you were a fan of the first two Paper Marios, you will be right at home.     Game is really fun, great characters great environments and a really nice battle system If you loved the paper Mario games back on the N64 and Gamecube, these are perfect for you. The characters grow well through out the story and much of the dialogue is interesting and I don't find myself just mashing the button to skip dialogue.     Great game in the same vein as paper mario. If you were a big fan of paper mario on the n64 this is a must play. Fun game. Pretty deep actually. Dialog can be a little long and boring after awhile. Puzzles and gameplay are super fun and challenging on hard mode which i played on my 1st playthrough. Lots of inventory items, side quests, and plenty of value in the game!

    I must say if you are a fan of the first two Paper Mario games or their combat system, then this game is a must-play. The game has a beautiful soundtrack and introduces a new world never seen before. The world-building is done phenomenally and with a badge, you get at the start of the game you can play on hard mode (which is actually what the developers recommend). The difficulty change isI must say if you are a fan of the first two Paper Mario games or their combat system, then this game is a must-play. The difficulty change is big enough to be felt and give a consistent challenge, but never did it feel overbearing or like enemies were damage sponges just to be hit repeatedly. This game isn't just something to relive Paper Mario nostalgia but rather shows off how well the formula used for those games is and how it can be improved to feel like a full-fleshed game. The only complaint I have is there are occasional platforming sections that don't play right and can get annoying but the fact that messing up a jump just sends you back and doesn't kill or hurt you is a big positive. I would certainly recommend if you want to play an RPG, unlike many others with a good story, strong characters, and challenging combat.… Expand

    A pretty good turn-based RPG in the style of Paper Mario/Costume Quest. Combat is streamlined and well-balanced. I really like the minimalist combat. Instead of damage numbers in the thousands, a solid hit of 3 damage is fine here. Character power scaling is much slower than other rpgs, and equipment in the form of medals isn't the huge boost that it is in other games. This results in combat remaining challenging throughout the game, and there's no way to trivialize it like in other games.

    There are some light metroidvania elements as you acquire traversal powers that allow you to discover previously inaccessible items or areas. I'm sure you're familiar with the routine. The dialog and story is cutesy, overlong, and filled with dad humor, but I've come to accept that's just another element of the genre. The overall experience is shortish, but there are quite a few sidequests and optional bosses to pad out the content. On the downside, quest instructions are often vague, and you only have a general idea of what you're supposed to do, and can spend hours just wandering around unless you look up a guide.

    A strong effort, and a fun time for old-school RPG enthusiasts and fans of Paper Mario.    … Expand

    This game oozes charm and wholesomeness in every moment! Being an almost direct copy of paper mario you know exactly what kind of gameplay to expect but from start to finish it doesn't get old! The artstyle, characters and music all REALLY push this game I to 10/10 status!

    Awesome RPG, and is far more than a Paper Mario clone. The game takes all the aspects that made Paper Mario so great and builds upon it. Terrific game for a small indie company.

    Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling is a nice love letter to Paper Mario, with its classical cartoonish look and old-school turn-based gameplay, but even with some meaningful differences, it ends up looking too much as an imitation rather than a creative tribute.
