Brief Battles allows you to experience what it's like to have magical underwear which indeed, makes this wacky concept solid fun and enjoyable with it's platforming gameplay elements; especially if you have the ability to enjoy the couch co-op action of Brief Battles. Brief Battles is a platforming fighting game that focuses mainly on local multiplayer gameplay and can be a positive, or a negative because most games of this niche either offer online or offline play (usually not both). Couch co-op games aren’t as common as they were due to the massive growth of the online gaming community. I was surprised to not find any option of any online play modes which left me a little disappointed, although it didn’t hold the game back because it features a very addictive single player mode and an excellent fun party play with couch co-op. The game controls as mentioned earlier do feel quick, and responsive and that is quite important in a genre with many platforming mechanics. If you're in the mood for an enjoyable couch co-op game that features plenty of fun with a nice single player mode, you’ll have fun with what Brief Battles offers, it doesn't take itself too seriously and it’s simple enough for all gamers of all ages to understand and enjoy. That's not to say there is no challenge involved in some of the levels, there's just a little bit of everything here for all age groups and skill levels. If the online play would have been included this would be a huge plus for Brief Battles and hopefully Juicy Cupcake incorporates that piece of the underwear down the line. Expand

This game is super tight. The underpants theme might turn some off, but really it's just a tight game that sort of feels like an evolution of towerfall.

I don't get the reviews from outlets complaining about no online play, there is a heap to do locally. Though I will admit, AI wouldn't hurt!

Still, a super fun game to play with mates or with your kids.

Brief Battles can be very fun if you have local players of comparable skill to play against regularly. It feels great to play, it's visually clean and distinctive, and it's got a high skill cap. Unfortunately, most of us aren't so lucky and the lack of online or even AI gameplay really hurts it. As an alternative, the game offers up both single player and co-op challenges. The co-op challenges are short and easy while the single player challenges are long and brutally difficult if you're going for gold medals. Knowing all those caveats, the challenges are fun and the game itself is designed very well. That's commendable in its own way and means platformer aficionados might find something to love here.

If you want something that you can enjoy for hours on end, then you may find a bit of a struggle after you’ve experienced every map and mode, but there is still plenty of fun to be had with this surprisingly challenging multiplayer adventure.

Wacky, accessible, and for the most part, innovative, Brief Battles succeeds in bringing fun that’s appropriate for the entire family. The only real drawback is that it all runs dry a lot sooner than it should, but even then, you’ll be hard-pressed finding a brand new party game that’s as likable, as outlandish, and as distinct as this.
