I have not played any of the previous games in this series and only played the Demo of this which is about 1 hour of game time.

The game has elements of both strategy and tactics as well as your basic hack and slash elements. It is moderately fun to run around with your squad attacking enemy units and taking down castles. Not sure how much the fun will last in the long term.

Graphics and audio are okay nothing special but lots of units on screen at the same time which looks cool.

To start this review I will warn I am a hardcore musou game fan and a lot of my opinions may be biased or more lenient but I will say the game itself seems to have all the pieces for a potentially amazing strategy combat game but are simply not implemented in a good fashion, I enjoyed the giant scale of the map making it feel like you were in the midst of a giant war but it falls short inTo start this review I will warn I am a hardcore musou game fan and a lot of my opinions may be biased or more lenient but I will say the game itself seems to have all the pieces for a potentially amazing strategy combat game but are simply not implemented in a good fashion, I enjoyed the giant scale of the map making it feel like you were in the midst of a giant war but it falls short in some ways as traversal can be a hassle unless you swap command to cavalry units and the graphics and semi flat land can be a bore but i’ll give it the benefit of doubt as having so many entities on screen has shown it has some performance issues if a battle gets big enough which is likely its greatest flaw, combat is semi unique with armies having different commands, though I feel it would have been a lot better if it didn’t feel quite so autonomous, difficulty is about the same as your typical musou game where it is more or less you being an op powerhouse taking down legion after legions of enemies in seconds to some to little challenge with the harder difficulty, I know it doesn’t mean much but overall I say the game is painfully average but it has buckets of potential to become something better if they ever attempt a sequel Expand

Its good intentions are sadly blighted by unacceptable performance issues. [June 2015, p.78]

Menus, options and over-designed mechanics prevent you from ever getting into it. [Issue#123, p.83]

The new fantasy Nightmare campaign isn't enough to rejuvenate an already mediocre game, which even keeps many of its original technical problems despite of the new gen porting.
