Beholder 2 comes back to us with familiar gameplay, though this time we are provided a new setting with a array of different challenges and a whole new story. Your father has been killed, you gain a job at The Ministry and you are tasked with finding out what happened. Using familair mechanics in a whole new way you must reach the top of the ladder and take down whoever stands in your way in whatever manner you see fit. Will you plant banned items in their work desk and report them? Or will you befriend and ask them nicely to step aside? The choice is yours but the road to the top is dangerous and long. With plenty missions and mini side quests to go along with your nefarious or legitimate activities, Beholder 2, much like the first, offers hours of great gameplay. Visually Beholder 2 is much like the first, sporting the signiture Black & White & Grey tones with big bright white eyes. However the settings are beautifully designed and a great amount of detail has been added all around without compromising the simple design style that we know and love. The controls are very simple to learn and remember, keeping it simple seems to be key in this slowly growing series and the controls keep with that philosophy. This is however where my only gripe seemed to come with the game, sometimes it was a struggle to make the character move or move faster than a slow stroll and required a couple of flicks of the stick to get myself on my way again, then occasionally the character would freeze in place with the game still active however I was unable to interact or move and had to load up my prior save. Overall: I love this game, if you enjoyed the original this nice new spin will delight you, if you are new to the series, no prior knowladge needed but I highly recommend playing the original also (they can play as standalone). Despite the movement issues I encountered (I expect to be addressed in an update) this is a highly enjoyable game that will be easy to spend many hours on without realising just how long. Expand

The work you must do every day can be quite repetitive, and doesn’t do anything but give you money to pay random bills. It’s a bit of an obstacle that slows down your enjoyment of the story. However, everything else is excellent and this “job” just becomes part of surviving so that you can continue your rise in importance. At a time when working from home has been a bit of a drag, it was nice to go to work in a video game. It was like switching realities.

It’s not easy to put Beholder 2 on Xbox One in a box though, as it’s a truly unique blend of gameplay elements – a narrative-driven world that is filled with engaging characters, strange places, and mysteries waiting to be solved. Simply put, it’s one of the most artistic and well-written interactive experiences I’ve seen in a while and, while it’s not perfect, it is completely unforgettable.

Beholder 2 is something unique and different. It’s an easy and simple game revolving around becoming the top dog. In the beginning it’s dark humor can be pretty entertaining, but when it’s constantly forced it becomes bland. Gameplay can be the same way at times. Until you get promoted you’re pretty much doing the same thing day in and day out unless somebody has a special task for you. Until that happens though the game is pretty slow. Regardless it’s still satisfying screwing over everybody and watching as Evan gets promotion after promotion – of course, that’s only if you don’t end up with a bullet in the back of your head.
