    Art style needs to grow on you, some of the minigames all flat. But as an overall package its a great 20$ game.

    I'm glad that someone finally done something with this IP. The game is ok. Personally I would like to have more beat n up levels and less (more quality) mini games but as the first attempt in battletoads it's fine. I see a lot of work was put in this game.

    Presented in a great Saturday morning cartoon style, the Battletoad trio of Rash, Zitz, and Pimple have been trapped in a virtual reality hole, living out a life where they’ve been worshiped as heroes for the past 26 years. That gameplay variety has its drawbacks, though. While I loved the feeling of bouncing from one game genre to another, I found myself wishing there were more classic brawling levels. Beat-'em-up is the game's bread and butter, but comprises fewer than half of the levels. It's a much larger percentage of the actual gameplay time, though, as a fair number of minigame "levels" take just a minute or two. In the end Battletoads was a decent attempt at reviving the franchise. It's always difficult to keep fans and newcomers happy in a classic franchise such as this. It's most definitely worth at least a couple play throughs and I think there is enough here to recommend it in the end after all it is battle toads for your Xbox One. I think players will love (new comers) or love/hate (depending how fierce of a fan you truly are.    … Expand

If you can get past the new art style (which is honestly fine), this is probably the best-playing Battletoads since the arcade game. The beat 'em up sections are better than they have been, packing more depth than just dashing and mashing buttons until whatever swine or rodent you're wailing on is dead. I also reallyNot as terrible as all the angry 30-somethings on here want you to think. If you can get past the new art style (which is honestly fine), this is probably the best-playing Battletoads since the arcade game. The beat 'em up sections are better than they have been, packing more depth than just dashing and mashing buttons until whatever swine or rodent you're wailing on is dead. I also really enjoyed the new Turbo Tunnel section. There are some depth perception issues with that infamous section now taking place in the third person, but it's still far more fun than the one in the original 'Toads or Battlemaniacs. My biggest gripe is the lack of online multiplayer (for a game like this, it's a serious missed opportunity) and that there just weren't enough beat 'em up levels to run through.

    The $20 tag is steep considering the length (my first playthrough was about 4 hours and 30 minutes), but considering it's on Game Pass, it really wouldn't hurt to download and give it a spin. If you can get over the fact that the Battletoads look different and the Dark Queen is no longer a gothic take on Jessica Rabbit...you might just be surprised at how fun Battletoads 2020 is.    … Expand

    It was a fun, dynamic, and diverse arcade though short. Levels with beat 'em up is my favorite section of the game, enjoyed it so a lot. The combat system pleased by a variety of moves of characters. Mini-games are fine, I guess. But moment with repairing systems of spaceship liked, that's the best of them. Segments with shoot 'em up and 2D platforms and    I liked the new «Battletoads».

    Debo decir que el juego en gameplay es de 10 pero en historia y ejcucion es 60, en general te vas a divertir pero hay mejores exponentes del genero como street of Rage 4 o tortugas ninja. Tambien creo que el juego es muy facil si lo comparas con todas sus entregas previas.

    BattleToads is an extremely fun game. Great 2D animation and overflowing with vibrant colours and ideas. However; I feel the game lacks depth compared to other games in the beat em up genre. Even ones made in the 80's and 90's. Non the less it is a great time.

    It is not a excellent game, but it is funny. It has good graphics like a Cartoon Network show and a funny humor.

    Há um apego muito grande na nostalgia e nisso mandaram muito bem, gráficos coloridos e agradáveis, a história divertida e que proporciona vários momentos de boas risadas, o gameplay bem desafiador, um beatup aceitável, oque eu acho que pegou mal foram os diversos minigames, que depois de um tempo se tornam cansativos, mas no geral é um jogo legal.

    In my opinion the art style is very cool, the humor is innocent but fun, I loved the variety of genres, the game is capable of surprising you and the beat-em up is amazing. However, some of the minigames are not that smart in design, there is no online co-op and it is somewhat short. If you have gamepass, you should give it a try.

One of the first games I ever played was Battletoads. My father and I would team up on the SNES in Battletoads/Double Dragon and lose. A lot. I don't think we ever saw the 4th level honestly...

    Anyways, with the above in mind I gave this Battletoads a shot (currently free with gamepass).
    Overall, mixed feelings.
    There is a difficulty setting, which is nice for those who don't want the epic challenge that the original Battletoads was. The mindless enemies in tadpole mode shouldn't cause you much trouble.
    The game play features what I feel is a "close enough" style to what it was, with the big hits and the short combos, but it doesn't feel authentic to the style of the original games. Add the tag in out system, which I'm still not sure I fully understand.. and a few eye rollingly lame cut scenes and it just kinda feels like a drag to play.
    Basically, on tadpole mode for example, you are not playing a Battletoads hard game, it feels somewhat similar but not fully, and the story is not exactly exciting or enticing. Playing on one of the harder difficulties fixes this a little, but it's still not the same.

    Overall:
    It is a decent game to play, specially free on gamepass.
    It is a Battletoads game that feels just Battletoads-like enough to say it does.
    But anyone with Battletoads experience should know it's just not the same.

    I was very impressed by the variety of gameplay on the levels, it was interesting to play all the time, but these platforming games with requirements to complete the level in 10 seconds are already annoying.

    The return of Battletoads is a game in many ways surprising and made with extreme care. But the desire to do too much makes him lose his lucidity and ends up watering down an adventure that is too short in itself

    Battletoads is a stylish, grueling, flawed, but fun beat 'em up... one which is unfortunately buried under mounds and mounds of extremely mediocre alternate game modes. You're constantly just wishing for the bullethell/platforming/QTE sections to end so you can get back to the part of the game you actually want to play.

    This here is a faithful reboot to one of the hardest games ever made. Battletoads has a silly amount of gameplay variety for such a short game, and the humor is there too. Too bad the gameplay itself can feel generic at best, and the art style looks like Cartoon Network vomited an 11am weekend viewing all over it. It is a decent couch co-op game at least.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Battletoads (2020) can be best summarized by two words starting with the letter F, those words are "fun" and "frustrating".

    The games biggest strengths are its dialogue, character dynamic, art style and cut scenes. Cut scenes in this game are done very well, it feels like a cartoon show. Some of humor misses the mark and is a bit cringe, but most of it is actually pretty well done, and surprisingly mature/dark at times despite the game's art-style suggesting otherwise, such as characters using the middle-finger at other characters. Of all the characters I find the most entertaining besides the Battletoads and Dark Queen, are the main villains, the Topians Uto and Pia. The game also has some decent tunes, my favorite is the theme is played Battletoads escape from Lumberjacks and Gymnasts. In regards to actual gameplay, the beat em portions are pretty good with a fair challenge (I played on normal difficulty). The animations morphs in particular are attacks are very well done. I do take issue with taunt being mapped to right analog stick though, sometimes triggered a taunt by accident, leaving me vulnerable to attack. Should've been mapped elsewhere. The environments in which you fight are also well done, my personal favorite is abandoned space amusement park. One problem I have with beat-em-up section is they sometimes have stupid hack or puzzle sections to proceed to another combat area, which kinda suck. Unfortunately, while the game is beat'em up at the core, the game could've used more levels for beat'em up action, as a good portion of game isn't just standard beat'em up fair. While variety is good, some of alternative play-styles aren't always fun or have issues. Some of these are fun alternative game segments like the Battletoads mashing buttons to perform occupational jobs, shoot- em-ups in spaceships, riding Turbobikes, using a diplomat named Jeff as a sled, and fighting off cultists in an unorthodox manner are all fun. Other modes like rebooting your spaceship, which consist of fun minigames, is brought down by a very strict timer with random layout each time you try, make it difficult to complete to the point of frustration. The platform/puzzle sections are okay, but honestly I'd would've preferred if they had not been included. The escape sequence I'm not a fan of at all, very strict time wise, and lastly, dislike the gymnast minigames. In all game modes, the difficulty can sometimes spike very quickly, which can be quite annoying at times. Sometimes I think certain parts of the game are harder as the result of playing by myself, certain segments seem like they would be fairly easy with friends. Which by the way, this has no online co-op, only local, online co-op should've been in the game.

And there are WAY too many kiddy cartoon cutscenes. The lack of online cooperative play is also a big downer. If you're playing this alone, it can be a bit of a grind.     Jogo até que é bom, mas se torna cansativo, as fazes se estendem demais. O inicio é meio chato e leva umas duas horas pra emplacar. O jogo tem um excesso de animações que deixa tudo poluído e caótico na parte beat 'em up.

    It could not be what the fans was expecting in terms of graphical achievements, but Battletoads manages to be everything a good beat'em'up needs. Fun to play, hilarious to see and more important, a pretty smooth gameplay to enjoy.

    This game is as cool as it is frustrating. Some "mini games" are very nice but there are other ones that are stupidly made or just annoying. I enjoyed the first 2 acts of the game but the 3rd and 4th are reaaally frustrating. I finished the 3rd but can’t get pass the 4th. Because of that, it can’t be more than a 6/10 but I would have liked giving it a 8 if it were not because of the last act.

    Juggling genres is the series’ trademark and the latest game offers much larger variety in that aspect than any of its predecessor. Most of the genres were tackled well enough, but not all ideas are spot-on and almost every part of the game could be improved. It is the best Battletoads game to date though and it would’ve scored higher if it wasn’t for one frustrating and infuriating section towards the end of the campaign. [11/2020, p.55]
