There is like loads of freedom spent in the Caribbean, combat system looks well-choreographed when compared to other games today, gameplay is pretty good, mainly the naval combat, the score is wonderful, and Edward Kenway is so goofy. AC: Black Flag is the definitive pirate gaming experience, giving the player the opportunity to really feel the exciment of sailing and living as a vintage pirate. Even though there are some bugs in the action-parkour gameplay, this is definitely a great game for any player who enjoys to collect and to explore.

And I must say the only reason i played this game was because it was free on XO, and I greatly enjoyed it. The ship battles are amazing and addictive. You just want to go around blasting ships and getting resources to upgrade the Jackdaw. Great story and lovable characters. Huge game with thons of collectives.

The naval battles in which you participate are top-notch. The combat system they employed in that regard works really well, and it's overall a highly entertaining aspect of the game. The AC assassin mechanics are like past games. The land-based combat and movement is still basically Super Mario Brothers. You jump around from house to house, occasionally jumping down upon a victim from on-high. Once you obtain the "berserker" darts, the game becomes extremely easy. Of course, you're not forced to use them, but you probably will. "Berserker" darts are fired from what's essentially a silenced pistol and gravity doesn't alter their path - just aim and fire. The struck victim essentially goes insane (or berzerk) and starts killing his comrades. Generally, they'll kill him before he does too much damage, but you can carry 15 of these things. Also, if no one kills the "berzerk" victim, he'll die after a minute or so on his own. So you can imagine how these darts make the game pretty easy.

The towns look nice, but you can't go into any of the houses, so like I said - it's like Super Mario Brothers. The plot's decent, I suppose. The ending was kinda abrupt. All in all, though, I'd recommend this game, particularly to an AC fan.

Minus: controls should be more customisable (run and climb same button annoyingly), a bit repetitive AI, almost too easy, especially fight scenes. Was a fan from the beginning, but faded.

But that all happened after Black Flag. AC4 is the best of the series after the pinnacle of AC2. They laid the framework of Black Flag with Assassin's Creed III, but refined the best elements of that title and disposed of the worst (wooden, uncharismatic protagonist...). The result is a game with a good story, the best platforming and swordplay in the franchise to date, and a wonderful piracy sim that gives the game a great way to enjoy it outside of the main quests.

Even its modern-day elements, usually the most jarring aspect of any AC game, show creativity by breaking the fourth wall and essentially making the player an employee of Ubisoft Montreal. I'm not going to say it was a thrilling part of the game, because it wasn't, but it was something new and unexpected, and that doesn't happen in many AC games.

The sad part of Black Flag is that Ubisoft didn't learn the lesson that essentially releasing ACIII with some refinements and an expanded naval combat component as Black Flag should have taught them. Namely, longer development cycles!

And just when you think it has come to an end, there's a little more to the story. I really felt like I was playing a Hollywood movie

The graphics are good -- not mind-blowing, but definitely good enough to contribute to the experience rather than detract from it. Game play itself was, for me, a mixed bag. Hand-to-hand combat was, for the most part, very fun. Air assassinations are a thrill every time! The perfect amount of side weapons (pistols, smoke bombs, berserk darts, etc.) are offered to ensure that your character can defeat just about any foe without having to play the same encounter over and over to the point of getting bored with it. Yet, there aren't so many of these side weapons that you get overwhelmed (although rope darts were difficult and very seldom used). Naval battles are a very unique aspect of the game, and Ubisoft knocked it out of the park! But game play did have its share of pitfalls and bugs. Too often my character would, for no apparent reason, feel inclined to jump and climb on every obstacle in his proximity when all I was trying to do was run from point A to point B in a straight line. There were also a couple very isolated incidents during combat when I was unable to target an enemy and engage my main weapon, and using counter-strikes during combat worked about half the time. But these were certainly very minor annoyances, and I still loved playing. The game has the optimal amount of side missions to give it a little more depth without becoming too distracting. And when you tire of playing the main storyline, the ability to spend some time upgrading your character or your ship is the perfect diversion.

Undoubtedly, AC4 left me wanting more -- not in the "it's lacking a critical component and needs improvement" kind of way, but in the "I want to keep playing!" kind of way. Admittedly, I was quite surprised when I realized that I had reached the end, as it appeared that the story would keep going right up to the point the credits rolled. My biggest complaint by far is that I was left with the feeling that I did not have the chance to upgrade my ship as much I wanted to before the game ended, nor to really use the upgrades I had obtained to that point. Either the main storyline is not long enough to allow you to take advantage of all of the available upgrades, or obtaining all of the available upgrades with the given storyline length is too difficult. My first thought when the game ended was, "Why did I waste all that time working on all those upgrades?"

So, in short, I deducted a couple points for minor game play weaknesses and the difficulty in achieving all of the available upgrades before the game ends. But don't let that fool you -- this is a FANTASTIC game that will keep you enthralled for hours on end! It will always be one of my favorites!

Gameplay here is amazing, especially with the new, exciting pirate ship mode. You can sail the world as you please and take out all the enemy ships you want. It's seriously fun. The stealth and combat controls are still good as they still follow the rule "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". You still have your free-run controls, your weapons, your guns, and your stealth moves as usual.

Presentation is excellent also, like all other Assassin's Creed games (well... except for Unity). I do at times though encounter problems with the camera. Sometimes, you might even miss a jump because of the camera angle. I do also sometimes encounter glitches. One time, I saw a bird fly through the surface of the beach and back out. Another time, I landed on the rail of a ship and was stuck in mid-air for a split-second until I landed on it and took fall damage. All negatives aside though, the open-world layouts are well-crafted and have good graphics. You might even say that the world of Assassin's Creed 4 is way bigger than the worlds in the previous games. You can really tell that the developers took their time with every single detail of the game, especially with how spectacular the ships look in this game.

Overall, this game is amazing in every category. The story is crafted well, gameplay is amazing, and presentation is beautiful despite a couple of bugs. This game really deserves a ten out of ten! Are all games perfect? No, but this game is essential to fans of open-world action and adventure games. If you love adventure and action games, you need to get this game. It is that good. This joins the likes of Assassin's Creed 2 as one of the best games in the series.

The game gives you the freedom to do things like plunder ships, search for hidden treasures, discover islands, and much more in a large and beautiful world that's filled to the brim with things to do. The main story missions are just as exciting in their own ways.

While I liked the protagonist I can't say that I cared about his motives or his quest for "the Observatory." The plot mainly just serves as an excuse for players to set sail. I did find it interesting that you're not playing as a real assassin. Main character Edward Kenway is just a person who gets caught up in their world due to his search for the same thing. It's interesting to see the conflict between the templars and the assassins through the eyes of someone who doesn't care about it. The side-characters, who are comprised of legendary pirates, are completely uninteresting.

After the ending to AC3 I was curious to see how they were going to approach the modern day segments. It's a unique change from what came before, but it doesn't push the narrative forward. Instead all we get are possible hints to where the story might go in the future. Outside of a few hacking sections, gameplay here mostly just consists of walking from point A to point B and back. However there are some clever secrets hidden if you want to take the time to hack all of your co-workers computers and hunt down every illusive sticky note.

While story elements fall short the gameplay is king. There's plenty to do and enough rewards to make it all worth doing. It's the first time I've actually felt inclined to doing as much of the side-content as I can. It's mostly due to the fact that everything shows up on your map. In past AC games somethings just didn't show up, so 100-percenting it came down to blindly searching every inch of the map. Not a fun task. Here I can see where everything is located and can go and complete or collect it at my own leisure without the stress of wasting my time looking for every obscure bit.

Multiplayer also takes steps forward. It's the most refined experience I've played yet, and the first time I can conceivably see myself coming back to it. Sadly there aren't any ship battles online. The only complaint I really have on the gameplay side is that upgrading your ship can be a grind. Hunting down necessary materials comes down to raiding warehouses (which never seem to refill) and plundering other ships. It takes a while to do any of that or to get enough materials for the next upgrade. Given that some story missions require upgraded ships in order to survive make it something that can't be skipped. Still, it is worth it when you finally get that maxed out, unstoppable super ship.

Not only is "Black Flag" a gorgeous display of next-gen (or rather, current gen) graphics, but it's an addictive game that's filled with quality content. It's let's you feel the freedom of being a pirate while providing the thrills that fans of the AC series love. This is one you won't regret setting sail with.

AC:Black Flag and Skyrim should meet and have babies. In Skyrim I only dream of being able to sail, board and disembark, capture ships, hire crew and being able to fight and move like you do in AC, hunting, climbing, hiding, doing crazy acrobatic kills. And in turn when I play AC I only dream of building a custom home, creating my own weapons, mix and matching clothes and armor, collecting Sh%^ and putting it on display, purchasing homes, riding horses. Every time I play any of these 2 games I start to day dream, waiting until someone out there creates the perfect game using both games as inspiration. Aside from that, the game is the closest thing to the perfect modern fun adventure RPG. The best pirate game on console and probably PC to date, There is a decent number of outfits/skins but it could have way more and you cant mix and match. The choice of weapon types is limited. The exploration is very satisfying but boring after a while, I would loved to see the crew disembark and accompany the character,. until you start climbing that is, but also most of the islands are deserted and even though that's realistic, there is no real danger when exploring aside from the occasional Jaguar, or sharks. Also they removed horses from AC games now, what gives? Horses are awesome in any game. The graphics look very good and the environment animation such as water and vegetation is among the best I've ever seem but the NPC and some object's fade distance is really really short. The battles have improved a lot from the previous games and it is very satisfying but the kill animations and finishing moves are very repetitive and sometimes long, interrupting the gratifying thrill of this award winning combat system.NOTE: (All RPG games should have this combat style even "skyrim" style games, to some level of degree of course if Damage and Armor rating could be logically fit into the equation. Anyway, The naval combat is really fun and very anticipated but very confusing and difficult to maneuver at first, the controls are a bit awkward and the canons hard to aim, I think the naval combat in AC3 was a bit easier to handle. Ship customization is decent enough but I would like to see the opportunity to purchase different size ships in the future and expand on the fleet idea a bit more. The collectibles and loot system is repetitive but addictive and not very gratifying, in skyrim you open a chest and can see a menu of the items available and players get all exited about finding a rare or powerful weapon, in Black flag opening chests is just dull and there is rarely any weapons or outfits in them. I understand they are considered collectibles like the feathers but that only proves how sucky the looting system is in AC games. Looting corpses is boring and slow and you only get like 3 bucks per corpse, you have to kill at least 40 guards and search them one by one in order to make a decent living as a looter. I want to strip the body and sell their weapons and clothes, or wear them, or give them to my followers/crew members to wear. The shanty feature is pretty cool you collect these songs that your crew can sing while sailing but chasing these songs is a pain in the ass. I also would like to see options to purchase property, houses businesses, vessels, in future games. I would also like to see future games with co-op capability, and not just some missions like the Multiplayer on this game or the 4 player co-op they added in Unity, I'm talking about full campaign co-op where you get to complete all missions and explore all areas with a friend or two, trade items, share a ship or home. In conclusion, Black Flag is a very fun and immerse game which I hope to play the crap out of but it is a little repetitive and after a while exploring and isn't as fun anymore. . Thanks for reading. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is the best Assassin's Creed experience in terms of scale, freedom and gameplay. Between land and sea, the journey of Edward Kenway is really captivating.

I've played all of the major titles released with the Xbox One, and the one that I've had the most fun with, the one that I keep going back to, is Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. If you get only one game with your shiny new Xbox One console, make it this one.

Beyond the underwhelming main campaign, Black Flag delivers a world brimming with gorgeous places to go, amazing secrets to discover, and nefarious pirates to stab.
