Advancing in the game is a looping stride of training exercises and entering tournaments. The intermissions between matches are done as press conferences, where your character is assailed with questions about the future of their career, win or lose. The ball physics are amazing, and you can feel the difference on the different courts, as they are made with different materials. There is an insane amount of user-created content from the first game that you can import into your career mode if you so chose, these include players and courts. The action the players provide and the array of animations is fantastic, and the game feels genuine and smooth. With one exception. The assisted movement would sometimes leave me motionless or jogging the wrong way to chase after the ball, generating the only real frustration if felt with the game. That one issue cost me several matches and caused under aggravation at an otherwise fun and entertaining Sports Sim. Tennis fans Rejoice as this is likely going to take a while to top. Expand

Just because AO Tennis 2 has some clear weaknesses, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily a bad game. It may be missing some of the biggest names tennis have to offer, and it may feel a little sterile, but at the end of the day, it works as it should. If all you’re looking for is a current-gen tennis experience, it’ll do, even if you won’t be blown away by it.

AO Tennis is simply the best tennis game we have seen in years. Although it looks not that great, it offers very solid gameplay and challenges. The game does not feel like an arcade game but challenges you with a strong AI. If only all the players were there.

A solid, but still returnable, second serve that could use a little more mechanical tinkering.
