    It may be ugly, it may be a clear PC port, but 50 Years on Xbox can be a budget-priced addiction machine if you let it. It somehow manages to cram the joys of Civilisation into a twenty-minute game, and then has the gall to make it more-ish. We’ll take a prettier and slightly more varied version for the sequel, but for now 50 Years is well worth settling on.

    50 Years is a fast-paced alternative to the bigger, longer turn-based strategy games. You can win or lose a game in a single evening. Either50 Years is a fast-paced alternative to the bigger, longer turn-based strategy games. You can win or lose a game in a single evening. Either way you'll want to play it again. Although individual matches are short, the game offers a large combination of customization and decision-making options that make the game re-playable. Playing a round of 50 Years can easily be accomplished in 30 minutes. There are 5 difficulties, with higher difficulties taking slightly long only because they require more thought. On each turn the player selects units and buildings to buy with their resources (primarily gold, but also wood and faith). I was a little disappointed that there was no combat user interaction. Combat is played out automatically with the computer choosing where units are placed and how they move. Overall I found 50 Years to be an enjoyable turn-based strategy game. It has a ton of replay value and gameplay is quick for shorter play sessions, especially if you're tight on time but need something fun to play for a while.… Full Review »
