    A truly great game and it’s fully backwards compatible to be played on the newer gen so play it if you don’t mind a little bit older graphics. It still has a great story and good gameplay. The online is surprisingly still fun and has people in it.     Like Canis Canem Edit (AKA Bully) before it, Red Dead Redemption is the sandbox format of GTA transferred to a different environment, this time the wild west.     After reading all 330 of the mixed reviews I found not one of them mentioned the game's most glaring flaw. GJ ppl, it's no wonder gaming continues to improve at such an incredible rate. It's a sandbox game made by control freaks who put systems in the game that punish the player for doing anything more than bumping into an NPC. It invalidates the point of the sandbox genre. If GTA III, VC, or SA had attached a permanent character penalty every time you ran over a pedestrian, they would not have been popular games. RDR should not be a popular game. For example, out in the middle of nowhere with no other people around, a law officer chased an outlaw to get his bounty. I stepped in to help, shot the bounty, and in response both the bounty and the officer start shooting at me. So I kill both, incur a -200 'Honor' penalty, and game pop-ups messages telling me it's going to lock my out of quests and erase my save file if I don't start playing like a nice boy. It's pants on head stupid, it completely defeats the purpose of the sandbox genre, and removes all the fun from the game. This is less like an actual game and more akin to some kind of virtual training simulator for dogs, where the players are the dogs, being trained to do completely pointless and unrewarding things for no purpose that they have to do anyways because that's what the designers wanted. The entire game is designed as an anti-fun just follow instructions control freak's training exercise. It's basically an interactive cut-scene simulator, where every single moment and every event that occurs in the game is scripted according to what the developers wanted or did not want the player to do. It has almost zero actual entertainment value, and as noted, not a single critique on this site leads to the game's most obvious flaw and are all basically invalid or I wouldn't have left this review.… Expand

    This game captures the cowboy atmosphere better than almost anything. It's story and themes are heartbreaking and profound, and fitting for the era. Its gunplay is responsive and and it goes out of its way to offer depth to the non-combat life on the plains. Overall a tragic and profound experience, and a ton of fun.

    In my 30 years of gaming, Red Dead Redemption is my favourite game to date. It’s a shame R* didn’t supersede this with RDR2. A true Masterpiece if you’re into Wild West movies and feel like taking the role of the lead character.

    Like GTA games but with horses, except horses are nowhere as fun to use as a car or bike as you'd imagine. No cool radio to set the mood either cause you didn't have those back then. And just those two things alone make it a lot more boring, there's not a lot of interesting things to do and the story was pretty forgettable tbh.     O jogo é excelente, personagens marcantes, gráficos bonitos até hoje... os maiores problemas seriam algumas missões que além de maçantes parecem que só foram adicionadas pra inflar conteúdo e o mapa relativamente vazio e pouco diverso, fora isso é uma ótima experiência.

    Did I forget to go back and review one of the best games of all time?! Well let me rectify that situation, given the abolish spawns gaming hath given us since thy release of this classic. Story-A+, Graphics at the time A+, Character personality A+ Mission amounts and Side Mission content A+...this will forever be the pinnacle of gaming, because its been nothing but downhill since this game in the industry. So much so that I know Red Dead Redemption 2 coming up in a few months, wont live up to its older sibling in terms of old gamers familar with this series. This was back when "DLC" wasnt being chopped from the main game to be sold later, and once that trend started, games have been shallow and too short, for "full" experiences to be sold to you later for more $$. This company "Rockstar", used to have my upmost respect...but GTA V online ruined that. I fear, actually, I know, Red Dead Redemption 2 online will have low trickling pay offs for their in game $$ and way overpriced EVERYTHING just to try to get you to buy their in game currency "Red Dead Bonds" or some BS. You heard it hear first...I wont be buying Red Dead 2 until its on a huge sale or I just playing the single player when I can borrow a disk from a friend. I no longer tolerate, play, or recommend any game that models EA/Activision/Ubisoft and all the rests predatory game models. My wallet is closed like the rest should be until this industry changes its ways back to being consumer friendly and non predatory. Personally, I would've not tried RDR1 after playing RDR2 as the graphics of RDR2, I feel, are exceptional. Keeping the graphics apart, I was stunned and surprised by the minute details RDR1 has. Details such as the sounds of horses’ shoes riding from one turf to another change the terrain sound, the ground's heat rising at distance, dust eroding while walking or moving wagon, NPCs getting annoyed if bumped into, etc. I have to mention that my friend persuaded me to take RDR1, and I was more than happy and pleased to play this game as all my friend's assertions were correct.

    3. The main character's development and other characters in the game feel real while playing this video game. Apart from the main story missions, this open-world game took me by surprise regarding the Stranger Missions and the behavior patterns of such characters. The reactions of the Non-Player Characters while interacting with them were surreal all the time. Playing this game would make the player feel like living in the real old west world.

    4. The dialogues and the grammatical language were fabulously scripted as they portrayed how people used to converse in that era. The advantages and disadvantages of both sides- outlaws/uncivilized and civilization can be inferred through the dialogues of the in-game characters.

    5. Running on horses and playing missions give a very different feeling in this modern age. Action, thrill, adventure, and many items and aspects can be discovered while playing and exploring, apart from as well as while completing the main story!

    6. The background score and the music in this game are simply great as they provide great intensity while playing, whether roaming free or doing missions.

    The storyline is enough to keep me hooked on the storyline. After playing Red Dead Redemption 2, I decided to check out this one and was not disappointed. I prefer the darker storyline this has compared to a way better ending to the story.

    However, the gameplay and some aspects of the story really show that the sequel definitely improved upon the ideas presented in this game.

    I just finished playing RDR for the second time in my life and I'm pleased to say that it holds up more than well. In fact, for a game that is now over 10 years old, it holds up so well that I am confident that it has cemented itself in video game history as a classic.

    This was released at the time that Rockstar started to really refine game-play in all their titles.     This was released at the time that Rockstar started to really refine game-play in all their titles. Once GTA IV was released, it was just a matter of slight tweaks here and there to make all future titles exceptional. And that really shows in the first Red Dead. Controlling John, house riding and gun-play is extremely intuitive, responsive and easy to pick up. This in turn makes the entire open world experience a delight and so much fun! Which I might add, this world has just the right amount of content that adds extra engagement without feeling bloated (which is rare in the genre these days).

    The open world is fun, but also incredibly beautiful. I played on a Xbox Series X and the slight upressed graphics only slightly enhances what was already a stunning looking game. Additionally, I remember frame drops on the 360, which were completely gone as everything ran smooth from start to finish. But the Series X only touched things up as the art direction and design is what makes Red Dead a masterpiece. That also extends to the brilliant sound! Sure, the firing of guns, gallop of hooves and overall effects sewn into the journey are very impressive. But it is the score that ties the whole art design together. Each location is enhanced by the music and given a unique sense of atmosphere as you travel from one place to the next. Oh, also, there are some nice original licensed songs thrown in at just the right time for good measure.

    After considering all that, how could this ever be a classic without a masterfully written story behind it. This also came at the time when Rockstar made the wise decision to hire 'no-name' actors for their roles. But they are actors that fit every colourful character perfectly all of which have some of the best dialogue in gaming to work with. The story itself is classic Rockstar, mixing parody with drama that remains a great formula for entertainment to this day. It is Johns journey itself that really wins it all. No matter how you chose to play, you will join John on a struggle to leave the outlaw life behind, while battling his very inner nature.

    I could go on and on really as there is so much to love about this game. I played this again after RDR2 and adored how it organically felt like it rounded off John Marston's saga with Dutch and his gang. But that story is one piece that makes a complete package and that package will forever be a must have for any gamer's library.

Much like the Grand Theft Auto series, the game is full of politcial and social commentary, and, although it's entertaining to sit through, it seems like the game focuses too much on completely basing their characters on these satires, instead of being fleshed out and properly written. Throughout the entire game, characters such as Nigel West Dickens, Abraham Reyes and The Professor get more screentime and mentions than Bill, Javier or even Dutch. The satire is interesting, sure, but Dutch Van Der Linde is MORE interesting! A gang falling apart at the end of the old west with a crazed leader is MORE interesting! The Pinkerton Detective Agency holding John's family at ransom is MORE interesting! Even though rockstar have so much to work with, these story points seem to be overshadowed so much by the satire that it makes the story seemingly have no substance to it. It is clear that rockstar realised their mistake here, probably why they went with a less satirical focus with the second game. Despite all of this, the atmosphere and feeling to the game is impeccable, and the story still manages to keep you engaged with more interesting missions invloving the three main antagonists being brought up at just the right time to keep you on the edge of your seat.… Expand

    Red dead redemption have a clearly unique style. I enjoyed the story and found it very interesting and it make it better with the characters who are very well written and can be very believable. The end was heartbreaking and the western world is clearly the best represented in this game. I enjoyed each part of this game and all the story make us want to know the end.     People who don't give this game a 10 are insane, this has such an amazing story and really nice gameplay.

    The story is the most touching part about the game, you need to play the game to understand. The ending is so hard hitting. I almost cried.

    For god's sake just play the game, you will track me down to thank me later for me recommending this game. Just trust me.

Надо стрелять в голову! - подскажут мне опытные игроки, и да, при стрельбе в голову тебе придется потратить всего 2!!! С**А патрона! Какого хрена первый патрон всегда сбивает шляпу с головы? Неизвестно. Р-реализм.
    Учитывайте еще, что оружие неавтоматическое, и передергивать затвор нужно нажатием той же самой лкм (сидишь и барабанишь по мышке). От этого стрельба становится еще менее комфортной и доставляющей удовольствие.
    3) Розыск. Тебя З**БУТ охотники за головами, если ты должен денежку за плохое поведение, и не важно была ли на тебе маска в момент совершения правонарушения, искусственный интеллект рокстар геймс вычислит тебя даже под ней. Р-реализм. Для примера: у меня была перестрелка с охотниками за головами, которую я проиграл. Не страшно подумал я и загрузившись развел костер, чтобы восстановить силы. Рядом никого не было, только начал жарить мясо на костре, как появилась банда охотников за головами, и пока я выходил из режима отдыха, меня уже убили) Дальше смешнее - загрузился я в той же локации недосчитавшись нескольких долларов в кармане, только начал двигаться и... угадаете что произошло дальше? ТА ЖЕ САМАЯ БАНДА третий раз подряд решетит тело главного героя за 1,5 секунды! Ммм, уже чувствую, что скоро пойму эту игру и буду получать удовольствие (нет).
    4) Стрельба верхом на лошади, когда тебя кто-то преследует. Мало того, что придется испытать все "удовольствия" перечисленные выше, так ты еще хрен нормально прицелишься и скорее всего упадешь со своей лошадью с обрыва, потому что ты не видишь куда едешь, а у лошади автопилота нет, к сожалению(
    5) Подводя итог в пятом пункте хочу сказать, что играя в эту игру ты не ощущаешь себя главным героем, ты вообще никто в этой игре, один среди таких же нпс. Убери из этой игры графику и логотип Рокстаров и что останется?

    P.S. Проведя в этой игре 117 часов, со временем я реально начал кайфовать. Игре требуется время, чтобы забраться в сердечки самых нетерпеливых.    … Expand

Falando agora de seus itens secundários, vamos as críticas, alguns itens como as missões de estranhos são em sua maioria sem sentido, em nenhum momento senti que havia algo concreto por trás dela, somente objetivos bobos em um contexto bobo, mas ainda assim renderam bons momentos, o que eu realmente não gostei neste game foram seus minigames, a Rockstar já vem a tempos implantando mini games extremamente complicados em seus jogos e me estressando com isso a um bom tempo, porém nada se comparou ao stress causado pelo minijogo " Five Finger Fillet ", este que beirou o impossível para mim, pensei até mesmo que não conseguiria chegar aos 100% do jogo por conta disso, em questão o jogo é grandioso em seu modo história, mas seus objetivos secundários deixam a desejar grandemente, temos outro que são os desafios, a temática é interessante, mas alguns como o de caça por exemplo apresentava objetivos completamente difíceis como por exemplo matar 3 ursos de cada vez com um tiro, eu lembro que consegui matar alguns com um tiro e o jogo não contabilizou e aí está outra coisa que me enraiveceu, além do que se o jogador morrer enquanto faz algum desafio, pode acabar perdendo o progresso já conquistado no mesmo e isso não faz o menor sentido pra mim, além do que acabei gastando mais tempo que o necessário em determinados desafios por conta disso, por esses motivos deixo aqui a nota 9, um jogo com modo história maravilhoso e impecável, porém com ítens secundários desinteressantes em sua maioria, mas claro, ainda assim foi um dos jogos que amei ter experimentado e recomendo fortemente a todos.… Expand

    It never came out for pc but if you didn't play it in its day, buy a ps3, xbox 360, ps now, xbox one s, s / x series but play it.

    I like Red Dead Redemption (2010) so much more than RDR2. I guess first one just has better atmosphere for some reason and i think map design is more interesting in 1. In RDR2 everything feels too....idk how to describe it even, too "placed" ? It doesn't feel as natural as 1. RDR2 is still good, but just gets boring way faster. RDR2 has nice story, but map is just meh.

    I'm not sure why, but i like this more than rdr2. Yeah, rdr2 has amazing graphics and good story, but overall i didn't find rdr2 map that interesting. But rdr1 map is actually really cool. There have been rumors that Rockstar is remaking rdr1, if it's actually true, i'm so hyped!

Great graphics, a tremendous wild west world, badass mechanics and a fascinating story. Everyone should have played this game once to understand why the hype around the Red Dead series is that understandably exaggerated. Buy it!

Happy that they finally released the sequel, waiting for the third game now BUT i wouldn't mind if they were to remake this game for the upcoming PS5 because if Red Dead Redemption II looked amazing, imagine what this one would be like?     The story is boring and the gameplay is more basic than that of GTA 3, but it was fun to roleplay as a bandit or bounty hunter, I guess.

    This is without a doubt one of the best games I have ever played. A great open world with tons to do to the point where you never get bored. There are tons of collectibles, side missions, and mini games that you can play across the old west. You can hunt for buried treasure using treasure maps, go hunting, buy or sell goods at general stores and trading posts, go bounty hunting, gamble,This is without a doubt one of the best games I have ever played. Rockstar did such a great job bringing this world to life. When you're playing it it feels like you are playing out an old western movie. If you play this now and you have never played it before you might be a little spoiled by today's standards for graphics, but the graphics are still very impressive for its time (the game was originally released in 2010). The gameplay is superb. There is a feature known as "Dead-Eye" where when you shoot you can take out multiple targets at once when you are shooting. The game has an "honor" system where depending on your actions in the story, side missions, or just chance encounters with NPC's, you will gain or lose honor, and gain or lose fame. My favorite part of the game hands down is the story. In this game, you play as John Marston, a former outlaw who is forced by the government to hunt down the remaining members of his old gang in order to save his wife and son whom the government is holding ransom in exchange for Marston's services. This game has so many memorable characters, is well written, and will make you so invested in the story to see what happens next. As the title suggests, it is a story centered around redemption, and a man being forced to face his past. This game will make you feel so many emotions, and it is such a well told story that I cannot give it enough praise. This is easily a 10/10 game that everyone should experience.… Expand

    I adored the "Spaghetti-Western" feel & vibe through out the game. While I loved Red Dead 2, I wish it had more of original Red Dead's "flavor". In fact, I wish Rockstar would redo Red Dead Redemption and update it with the same graphics, engine, etc. that Red Dead 2 had -- before launching a    Incredible game!...     Red Dead Redemption is one of the best story games of all time, the open world is great. Filled with great characters and gameplay.

I prefer Red Dead Redemption 1 on Xbox 360 due to the controllers button layout and that the game look slightly better on the Xbox 360 over the PS3. That just my console preference when playing this perfect game… Expand

    Grand Theft Auto in the west (aka Red Dead Redemption) Is a remarkable achievement in story telling, and gameplay. With a super likable main character, and hours of fun action, and exploring a large open world makes this adventure an unforgettable one.

    'Red Dead Redemption' is a must buy. Every Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 owner should play this game (as long as they're over 18 and not a member of PETA). The only reasons I can't give this game a full 10 are the annoying glitches, connection issues and the lack of difficulty.
