The reveal of having to shoot a portal on the moon with the prior knowledge of what Cave Johnson said about how moon rock a good portal conductor. I bonded with Stephen Merchant's character called Wheatley so much that when he betrayed me midway through the game, I felt so much emotion from his voice acting from Stephen merchant. Portal 2 takes what made the first game great and amplifies it by 10 fold. The puzzles are fun to try and figure out but never feel frustrating. If I'm stuck on a puzzle and I can't figure it out I feel like it's my fault rather then the devs creating stupid solutions. Also it is one of the best 2 player multiplayer experience ever.

The biggest problem is that the first game was a puzzle game with humour elements and this Fields mostly like humour game with puzzles in it.

And the first quote of the game feels most like a repeat of the first one just with a much more talk villain that keeps calling you fat.

but then there's something amazing you fill down to the bottom of the Earth and you meet The Legend the Lord ,,Cave Johnson.

And you have to work together is the Nemesis and everything's becomes an amazing. This is where a game becomes it own and I feel like the Pulse is getting pounded again.

latter half of the game keeps you on your toe and Storey just keeps getting warmed up and you have to play some really hard puzzle. It is so fun and I cannot recommend this game enough and the Co-op is the most fun you can have with your friend.

    A PORTAL TO THE FUTURE

    BEFORE WE BEGIN:
I start with the premise that I have played everything Portal 2 has to offer; thus the singleplayer, online co-op, and challenge mode. In addition, I got the platinum and I studied its various secrets.

    WAKING UP:
The game, depending on which mode you are playing in, immediately begins by projecting you inside this huge facility, The Aperture Science Inc., which, however, seems to have aged from the events of the first chapter, leaving you guessing at the time skip of several years. From the very first minutes, whether you play in single player or cooperative mode, the game explains how to use the basic mechanics of portals, immediately putting your personal portal gun in your hands. The initial differences between the two modes lie mainly in the extra mechanics that the cooperative mode possesses, namely those of the various pings that can be used to communicate between the two players.

    THROUGH THE PORTAL:
The game visually is incredible and immortal; even played eleven years after its release, Portal 2's graphics and colors remain delicate and appreciable, regardless of which console you try it on. The use of the Source Engine, used in the very famous Half Life 2, makes the graphics, physics, and animations of this game not only at the top of those existing at the time, but still comparable to modern ones. The setting itself, though subjective, is also truly unique and fascinating. Nothing in this game is left to chance; lighting and colors are always used wisely by the game designers to give players a sense of what to do and when.

    WHEATLEY SAYS:
The sound part of Portal 2, being a puzzle game anyway, does not claim to be sublime. In any case, Valve has decided to create multiple unique Osts that perfectly match the style of the area in which the player is moving or the cut-scene being watched. Huge credit goes to the voice actors who have given the robots unique personalities (Wheatley is perhaps one of the robots, in the video game market, with the most unique personality, perhaps comparable only to the legendary Cl4p-tp).

    IN THE TESTING CHAMBER:
Portal's gameplay, on paper, is a simple puzzle game that takes advantage of the mechanics of two interconnected portals. The beauty of the gameplay, however, is how this mechanic has been used both within the areas expressly dedicated to puzzles and in the story areas in an extremely precise and dedicated way; it is almost impossible to solve puzzles in manners not intended by the developers, and trust me that if you think you have found a cheese, even that was probably designed by the developers precisely to give you that frenzy of completing a level in an unintended way, thus giving you the urge to continue solving levels. What really drives the player to continue the game is that feel-good feeling you get after figuring out how to solve a puzzle, as well as the obvious desire to find out more about the history of this mysterious company. Finally, a nod to the game's cooperative mode, designed to perfection to give the same feeling for two players. The experience has been made fun and not at all repetitive for players, as the cooperative levels are unique and much more complex than those found in the single-player mode.

    ACHIEVEMENTS:
Portal's achievements are very simple and push the player to play almost everything it has to offer. The only flaw, in my opinion, is the achievement that requires you to complete the entire course 4 in co-op and without ever dying, which, compared to those that require you to complete some in speedrun, does not suit the puzzle genre as much as the platforming genre. In addition, there are as many as two achievements that require completing actions with multiple players online, limiting in the future or for those without the online subscription.

    BUT WHY 9?

    PROS:
The pros of Portal 2 are countless and have been amply explained in the previous lines. Portal 2 is a game that borders on perfection, rarely encountering bugs or unintended things; the graphics, animations, and direction are almost immortal. The story, for a puzzle game, is compelling and not at all trivial. The game length is almost perfect for the style of the game. The variety of levels is excellent. In short, Portal 2, like almost all of Valve's work, is a timeless masterpiece that still propels us into the future of puzzle games.

    CONS:
Finding cons for this game is very, very difficult. The only small things that do not make it a ten are the lack of a menu to select specific levels. Also, a totally personal choice by a game designer in first place, without spoilers(those who have seen will understand), I would have left the final phase of the game (The elevator) in the hands of the player, so that he can really feel the freedom.

From the age of golden age gaming, where games were games and gamers were gamers. This is a game made with passion and creativity, not like the garbage churned out these days. It has charm, personality, and passion in spades. My only criticism is the puzzles get tiresome and too challenging and I wanted it to end around halfway, but the lovable Wheatley and co, make up for it easily.

A good puzzle should be solvable with all the tools that the player KNOWS he has, and the elements of the map in the puzzle should be apparent, and not hidden requiring an element of luck for the player to discover it. A GREAT game puzzle is intuitive within the game world, and should ideally require knowing nothing at all when the player starts. The only puzzle in Portal 2 that broke these rules was the one with the white goo, which isn't explained. It's a pretty cool mechanic though, and discovering what it does was awesome.

Oh, this game is also hilarious, and has a very engaging storyline that unfolds while playing.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Portal 2 is one of the most definitive games of the early 2010s, with excellent mechanics, writing, and gameplay. It takes the engaging and addictive puzzle solving from the first game, but expands the scope beyond simple test chambers to learn more about the world of Aperture Labs and it's decrepit facility. Exploring the story of the corporation over the years is a fascinating experience aided by GLaDOS' commentary and input when you find her in her potato body. The writing between GLaDOS and Wheatley on either side of the good/evil divide is absolutely impeccable, simply the best, as well as all the fun bonus dialogue and multi-level jokes that you can activate. Randomly following the commands of the evil AI or "The Part Where He Kills You" with achievement and all is so funny. The way that Portal 2's mechanics also are just a brilliant evolution of the first game's is seen in the likes of the various gels and tunnels, with them making the gameplay just that more advanced and fun. Brilliant music also adds to the game, of course including the great ending songs!

Portal 2 is everything that makes Portal 1 great, and then some! An iconic and memorable game that defined the time it came out.

It runs, and looks a lot better on Sony's console. Now, to dive right into it. The graphical fidelity of Portal 2 is much higher quality than that of any of Valve's previous titles. This is because it runs on a heavily modified version of Valve's trademark Source engine, that adds a lot more detail and polish to the game's look. What is
also great about Portal 2 is that it is a much longer game than the original, due to the much larger team, consisting of developers behind Left 4 Dead, Half-Life, Tag: The Power of Paint, and of course the original Narbacular Drop team. The game will take you around 5 or 6 hours to beat, much longer than Portal 1's short length. GLaDOS, Chell, and the iconic turrets all return from Portal 1, but a few more characters are thrown into the mix, making your playtime a lot more interesting. The story takes place a good few thousand years after the original Portal, Aperture is a dilapidated mess, and Chell, with the help of another character who I will not spoil, attempts to escape once again. Another thing I have to note is that Mike Morasky's score in this game is fantastic! Much better than Portal 1's admittedly mostly lackluster soundtrack. Now, on to the co op mode. It is very good. You can tell the developers put a lot of effort into making sure both players started thinking with portals and working as one. And GLaDOS's dialogue, in both the singleplayer and co op is hilarious, even better than in Portal 1. Overall, Portal 2 does a great job of expanding and fleshing out the innovative portal gameplay mechanic first introduced in Narbacular Drop back in 2005, while closing off the Portal storyline that began in 2007 in a satisfying, wholesome manner. I don't think that this game is better than Portal 1. There are things that Portal 1 does better than 2, and vice versa. I think that Portal 1 & 2 are equally good. And that's good enough for me.

The game came out on April 18, 2011, although I’ve only been playing since Christmas of 2016, or a few months as I’m writing this. The console I will be reviewing on will be the XBOX 360, the XBOX version of Portal 2 currently is about $30, but most stores offer discounts.

Some reasons it’s a good reason to play on the XBOX is the easy controls, the controls are very easy to use and can be remembered quickly. It is a puzzle game which is also quite short but usually takes a bit of time. After you do beat it you will have additional challenges to play, which I heard could also be quite frustrating. The puzzles can be great for brain development in almost everyone. This could also be a bad thing, if you aren’t patient this probably isn’t the game for you, or kids under the age of 10. I’m not done with the game because of the puzzles, but I am a pretty patient person so it doesn’t bother me.

Although it is a puzzle solving game, it can be trickier than most. You go through each room with your portal gun, each room gets a bit trickier while trying to figure out where a cube goes, later it is a grey/white companion cube with a single heart on each side. Companion cubes help you to solve the puzzles by laying them on buttons that must have a weight to keep down. You also get the second portal gun pretty early in the game after you finish what I like to refer to as the “tutorial levels”. You aren’t playing the game alone though, the person helping you through the levels is an artificial intelligence names Wheatley. Later you get another one named GLaDOS which makes fun of you when you’re stuck on something. After you do beat the game you get rewarded with a prize and a song.

Overall, Portal 2 is a great game to get your brain going. The puzzles you have to do mixed with the story line you get along with it. It took little to no time to start it up on the XBOX 360, although, I wouldn’t know for other platforms. Sometimes you do get stuck on something, but more than likely that just makes you want to beat the room more because of the story line that is provided. If you have a busy schedule this is a great game as well, you can save at any point and because it goes by rooms you could play one room at a time, although it does get pretty difficult and addicting.

Played through the solo campaign. Loved it. Great dismal story that's easy to follow and get immersed in. Very witty dialog. The puzzles do an excellent job of being tasking but not tedious. One of those games you just gotta play and beat because it's so unique.

Everything is perfect or nearly perfect. Graphics, story, humour, gameplay, soundtrack.
This is one of the few games worth purchasing for every kind of player, even if you aren't normally attracted by this genre, you should give it a try. It is probably the best puzzle game ever made and one of the funniest co-op experiences.

Good or bad, Portal 2 takes a much simpler approach to level design this time around making this game much more casual friendly.
I needed tons of help to get through the original portal,
I only got stumped in portal 2 maybe 2 or 3 times total towards the end.
Portal 2 is even more unpredictable than the original was, there are so many twists and turns with the story and levels that you have no idea where the end of one puzzle is going to take you.
It was a great and much needed change of pace to go back and forth between testing rooms and half life style locations
really kept the gameplay and story moving forward, making it almost impossible to put your controller down.
There are a few added puzzle aspects such as light bridges, anti gravity beams, gels, and being able to redirect laser beams, but if im being honest these additions felt more gimmicky to me than innovative.
if its not broke don’t fix it.
I feel like the developers tried to cram too much into this game too fast.
Portal 2 also features a co op mode, unfortunately though, at least on ps3, there seems to be issues connecting to steam so you are stuck playing local co op rather than online
this isn’t an issue if you have friends.
but as glados will tell you
I don’t have any friends so I couldn’t effectively get through the 6 levels or get a true co op experience.
I did however play back and forth through a couple of levels and love the challenge added of having to actually effectively work together with now 4 portals.
Portal 2 is the same charming and addicting puzzle game as the original with still so much added to make it a much better overall experience.
With the puzzle solving greatly dumbed down, and the characters still hilarious, and a very worthwhile ending, you owe it to yourself to run through this amazingly charming puzzle game.

This game had made me waste HOURS into. That's how great this game was.

The story, characters, level design, and overall strategy was pulled off so well in this game.

Change too much and you risk ruining what made the first so special, change too little and it makes a sequel pointless. Fortunately Portal 2 gets the balance pretty much spot on.

As with the original the star of the show is the portal gun itself and Valve have again managed to craft a number of challenging but fair puzzles that require the gun to be exploited in increasingly clever ways. The first couple of hours of the single-player campaign play out in a similar fashion to the original (with the addition of the very funny Stephen Merchant on voice over work) before the game adds a few new features, such as light bridges and repulsion goo to keep things fresh without overcomplicating matters. Taking around eight hours to complete the single-player is again a joy to play through despite the fact that a large part of the original games charm was its originality. The only slight gripe for me was the fact that some of the sections outside the regular testing zones lose the focus that kept my interest throughout the original, but this is only a very minor issue and I am sure not everyone would agree.

Perhaps the biggest new feature added for this sequel is the Co-Op play, either via Xbox live or split screen. This opens up a whole new set of puzzles that require intelligence and teamwork to complete, coming in at around four hours it is a great addition to an already very good game.

If you were a fan of the original or you are simply bored of the endless FPS game released on consoles recently you could do a lot worse than picking up a copy of Portal 2.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Portal 2 is an puzzle, adventure kind of game. For some reason its known as Portals 'successor'. Portal was imaginative and original. It was a big cake (ha) with every detail covered. Portal 2 however just more of it really. It just seems to be so similar it may as way be called 'Valve's turd'. However I will say the controls are still easy to use regardless of which console you play it on. Any die-hard Portal fan will be slightly or bitterly disappointed by the fact there are no interactions with the companion cube. Except that one fraction of the game where it gets vaporised. There is no reference to cake or anything that made Portal such a childish success. Valve has made an attempt to put more depth into the game by adding a funny but mostly irritating character called Wheatly. He tags along for some of the game trying to explain the simple plot. Halfway through the game turns the tables and makes the villain your friend and your previous friend the enemy. The game really pushes this down your throat, by really trying to make accept your friend has become your enemy. Only I can't really care about Wheatley becoming the enemy. GLaDOS is still funny but only in the sense that she is trying to compare to Wheatley. The game as a whole lacks any reason to play it again. This was slightly disappointing because the puzzles were mind stimulatingly fun. The cooperative campaign was slightly fun with another person to play with. Half way through the game we were just seeing if we could dodge turret attacks. In short Portal 2 cannot be called better than the previous game, because its only just more of it. You should buy this just to see the story, no other reason really. Expand

But you know why I review it now? Simple. Portal 2 is, in my opinion, the best game ever made. No game has left me so much hungry for more than Portal 2. It had a considerable duration, an emotional grappling, a clever script, an engaging gameplay with a cooperative campaign that is just as fun, and in my opinion, Valve's finest (And Valve has got its fine stuff, ain't it?).
Portal 2 takes off from the simple premise that the exquisitely evil GLADoS (One of the best villains in video game history, and there is no way to argue that) has got you again in the Aperture Science testing facility. The facility is tearing apart, and you, Chell, are trapped in there for a lifetime, or at least that is what GLADoS thinks. Along with you, a new divine character joins this adventure, a robot called Wheatley. Oh my god! IT DOESN'T GET ANY BETTER!
The turrets, GLADoS, Wheatley.... Even Aperture's CEO Cave Johnson. You will not forget these characters. They are all full of wit and hilarity, and they really attach to you in an emotional ride, and that is the best way to describe Portal 2. It gets better when we talk about gameplay.
The original Portal was well-known by its innovative gameplay but also its short duration (1 or 2 hours). Portal 2 is a pleasant 8-10 hours ride, which are more than enough for a puzzle game. Still, I had so much fun. Puzzles are harder than ever, and the addition of the three gels make puzzles even more mind-bending. They are indeed challenging, and even though the boss battle still was disappointing in contrast to the puzzles, I didn't care, as I found the ending joyful and made me cry as a little b**ch.
The story in Portal 2 was never imagined to be as deep. But as you travel through Aperture's decadence, you will realise how dark the plot is turning halfway through the game, with a twist that will break your heart. Why? Because the characters are so well done, the voice acting is amazing and the game is genius at creating bonds within them and you. Even the Co-op campaign, which was really good and also offers a considerable duration (About 6 hours), has a storyline that leaves you on the edge of your seat. The Co-op campaign is a great addition. It really forces you to be cooperative and responsive to the other player, and the two bots you play as are equally as charming, and puzzles are equally as hard as in the campaign.
The visuals on this game will not blow your wig off, but damn they were impressive. Aperture's decadence is sometimes incredibly detailed, and you will find some scenarios even on Xbox 360 breath-taking. The Co-op campaign doesn't have the same visual dazzle. Still, it wasn't glitchy neither unbearable.
So, that's it. 10/10. My favourite game of all time. The best thing this generation of gaming has brought, and the best dish Valve layed on his big feast of outstanding game. Portal 2 is so great words can't even describe it. You will soon find yourself hopeless asking for a Portal 3. Guess we will have to wait, but I sure want to hear a turret again saying: "Are you still there?" with its T-Pain style voice.

Even better than Tetris. So the gameplay basically is about making puzzles with a gun that shoots portals, along with some items like, for example, cubes that you have to put on buttons. The first game won awards for it's original gameplay, the funny but sinister voice acting for the machine GLaDOS, and the song at the end, that also had a lot of humor. So the sequel was inevitable.
There are two modes, single-player and multi-player, of course. In single-player you play as Chell, the protagonist of the previous game, as she wakes up and finds a friend named Wheatley, who will help her to find the way out. In the way, something happens and they are now in the test chambers again. Without giving away too much, the story is a lot more complex in comparison to the multi-player and especially the original game, taking the most time to complete of the three. Also, the voice acting for every character is wonderful, with well-written dialogue. Almost every line they say could be a meme. Graphically, is the best-looking game that uses the Source engine, and has some pretty good visuals. The gameplay is still fun, even if it lost the fresh factor, it manages to keep it new with some new and inventive mechanics. There are easter eggs too, that are pretty interesting and, most importantly, fun.
The multiplayer is like another game. Taking place after singleplayer mode (without revealing anything, so you can play this one first without spoilers), GLaDOS now tests two robots, ATLAS and P-Body, through the chambers. The story in this part isn't very important, similar to Portal 1.
There are a lot of inventive uses for the two player mechanic, and even some mechanics that aren't on the single-player campaign. Obviously, it's shorter than the solo campaign, but even then it's one of the best multiplayer modes of all. You could say that the game actually has two different campaigns.
The soundtrack is good. There are more techno ambience sounds, but, unlike in Portal 1, they will be more notorious. There are some songs here and there, without spoiling anything, and they are good, but nothing compared to the original. Overall, the game not only is an improvement to an amazing game, but also manages to keep it fresh.

I really wish this would have been Portal 1. The gameplay though unique just gets old after a while and is been there done that after the first game. My favorite aspect of Portal 2 where the co-op missions. On the short side but sweet.

The story was really amazing, the humor was as good as ever, the graphics (despite what some people say) were actually pretty good and still way better than the first one, and the puzzles were challenging at times while not being close to impossible. The learning curve is really amazing (as was the one in the first Portal). Most of the time you would walk into a puzzle and start thinking of how you could solve it and when you finally do you feel really good about yourself despite the fact that GLaDOS is insulting your every move. The trailers of this game were probably the best trailers I've ever seen. They did exactly what they were supposed to do. They got me completely pumped for the game. Maybe a little too pumped actually which is part of the reason I gave it a 9. My expectations were unbelievably high and it only slightly let me down. I kind of felt that the co-op mode was kind of annoying to use just because unless the person you are playing with is at the same place as you you have to play levels several times or skip levels. My last problem and probably the biggest is it didn't really have very much replayability. The co-op added to it a bit but after that I didn't know what to do with myself and I found myself wanting so much more. It's not even the short story that was my problem (approximately 4 hours to beat) but it was that I had no incentive to play it once I beat it. Maybe if they had some things to unlock or the challenge levels they had in Portal 1 then I'd be fine and I'd probably give it a 10 but I didn't really feel like playing it again just to get my money's worth and there was no incentive to anyways. Good game, but if you played the original and thought it good but not great, then this is really just more of the same. In any case, I felt there wasn't enough new stuff there, and it got to be a bit of a chore and felt like going through the motions just so I could seen the ending. Though I have to admit, the story and characterisation was much better this time around. Other than that I couldn't find too many other positive things to say about this game. It doesn't have much re-playability even when you take the coop mode into account. Overall if you loved the original then its more of the same, but if like me you really didn't see what all the fuss was about the original, and just thought it an okay first person puzzler, then you probably wont find your opinion has changed much with the sequel. So its good, but not a classic, at least not in my book. 6 / 10 Expand

The best FPS ive played since Wolfenstein 3D. A game with exceptional storytelling, pace, difficulty balance and game mechanics, and yet great entertainment. I was very happy at the end and expected nothing more when the game presented me with one of the prettiest endings I've seen in a game. Thank you very much Valve.

Entertaining but not mind blowing nor GOTY worthy like IGN pointed out. I really don't see why of the commotion for this game, yeah its fun and challenging for a while but it gets boring, you are always contained, plot driven and not very good graphics at all. Bought it for new for $30 and even Im regretting having payed that much for this.

Its fun and you will enjoy it for weeks, but thats just it. Check it out though. Its all worth it for that awesome moment and a pleasent ending. Also the main reason I came on here was the user "downrater" is either a troll or has absolutely no taste in games. He'll give this a zero, all the cods a zero, (but thats kinda understandable considering each new game in series is a rehash of the last one), halo all got zeros, skyrim got a zero, zelda got a zero, mass effect got a zero,
But the only game he gave a full 10 out of 10 was a World of Warcraft game, that personally really wreaked of suck. I feel like he has no life and has become one of Warcrafts slaves. He can't like anything else sadly.
