    This game is only SLIGHTLY fun as a shooter the big issues I have with it is just how annoying it looks and plays the reticle for firing a weapon is not accurate at all and enemies only take a little bit of damage when you empty half of your mag into them plus enemies constantly rush you no matter what and give you 0 chance to fight back and whenever you can fight back it takes so manyThis game is only SLIGHTLY fun as a shooter the big issues I have with it is just how annoying it looks and plays the reticle for firing a weapon is not accurate at all and enemies only take a little bit of damage when you empty half of your mag into them plus enemies constantly rush you no matter what and give you 0 chance to fight back and whenever you can fight back it takes so many shots to kill them overall this game just sucks… Expand

    I loved that thing, great TPS, doesn't cost much, ok history just to connect what happens in the game, action, classic cover thing and that's all, didn't do much, i did miss something different while playing, but it's totally enjoyable and worth playing, specially considering the low price it has on PC.

    Well... I certainly don't understand the 0s. Or the 10s. Honestly it's a bit difficult to assign a number to Kane and Lynch 2... This game left a mark on me though.

    This is a game I'd recommend you experience at least once. In short sessions (I'll get to that.) The story is pretty basic but more interesting than your average shooter.     This is a game I'd recommend you experience at least once. In short sessions (I'll get to that.) The story is pretty basic but more interesting than your average shooter. The characters are refreshingly repugnant. The settings are, by and large, varied and unique. The shooting is passable, not great, not bad. The enemy AI is on par for this generation.

    This is more like experiencing a Michael Mann movie than playing a 3rd person shooter. That's not to say you will be watching more than playing -- you won't. But the scenes you'll play through are pretty raw and interesting to experience. They offer no reliability whatsoever so keep that in mind if you're considering paying more than $10 for a copy.

    When I said play it in short sessions - I meant it. This game honestly made me motion sick a couple times. Not to the point of actually getting sick, but 100% to the point of needing to stop. I'd fault the game for it if some of the set pieces weren't so fantastic. Also there is an option to reduce the camera shake... which I'm dumb enough to have missed the first playthrough.

    I was legit screaming at my TV in frustration just wanting it to end in the final 30 minutes (died over and over) but even that frustration combined with the average gameplay and bouts of mild nausea don't outweigh how much I appreciate gaming doing something this odd.

    I wish they still did. $10 or less, do it. More than $10... well that's up to you.    … Expand

    Is a bad game but it is interesting, looks ugly the story is ugly and the characters are ugly but you cannot look away from it, You have to see where this rabbit-hole go, I would recommend it just to see how how interesting bed something Can be

    They should've called it Kane & Lynch 2: Cover-based Shooting because that's effectively all you do.     They should've called it Kane & Lynch 2: Cover-based Shooting because that's effectively all you do. I normally don't mind cover-based shooting as part of a core gameplay loop, but there needs to be something else, ANYTHING else to break it up, otherwise it becomes monotonous and tedious. The cover system is also a joke, I was under the impression that while you're in cover, the enemy can't shoot you. This is not the case with Kane & Lynch as bullets can sometimes phase through solid objects.

    The shooting is incredible weak and has no impact or "punchiness" to it, so make it both "cover-based" and "shooting" that they got wrong in a cover-based shooter! Submachine guns are virtually useless as they just spray bullets every where, barely hitting the enemies. Good luck trying to hit enemies from mid to long range as your bullets don't seem to travel that far. Enemies are essentially bullet sponges, sometimes taking almost an entire magazine to drop one enemy. Sometimes I'd hit them in the head and they still wouldn't go down.

    The game's plot is so thin, it hardly matters: Kane and Lynch are in Shanghai for a weapons deal, they accidentally kill someone they aren't suppose to, which provokes the most powerful and influential man in China who has the police force, his own gang members and even the army in his back pocket and available at on a whim. On top of that, their arms dealer double crosses them when he finds out what they've done and tries to kill them, the get capture by the powerful Chinese guy, but manage to hi-jack one of his helicopters, strafe nearby office buildings and then eventually kill him. The game then pads itself out for another 20 mins by making Kane and Lynch run through an airport in order to get on a commercial airliner and leave Shanghai. Then the game just abruptly ends, cuts to black and rolls the credits.

    My biggest gripe is with the graphics, this handheld camcorder viewpoint is dreadful. The graphics are so murky and blurry, it was headache inducing within the first hour of gameplay. There are vertical bar lens flares that look terrible and the camera movement while sprinting feels like you're sitting in dinghy in the middle of the Bering Sea. The camera will also randomly go out of focus or drop a noise filter on you in the middle of heated combat.

    Overall, I can't recommend Kane & Lynch 2, even on sale because there's nothing fun about the game. Boring and unlikable characters, tedious, repetitive gameplay, nauseating/headache inducing graphics and a campaign that's laughably short and unrewarding to play.    … Expand

    I've been wondering why people hate this game so much, and only 2 things come to my mind:

    I've been wondering why people hate this game so much, and only 2 things come to my mind:
    1. It is veristic, and gamers don't like that. Gamers prefer to play handsome, muscular heroes in pretty, idealized worlds. This game presents the wold in a realistic, ugly manner. Especially if you compare it to other 3rd person - behind cover shooters, like GOW or Army of Two - which are very childish, very silly. Kane and lynch is not a fantasy, it's realism. That's why people get pissed about this game - it bursts a bubble.

    2. People play it on low difficulty, and then they get pissed the game is over after 5 hours. Play this game on highest difficulty, and it's amazing. Takes 15 - 20 hours.

    I love the gun play in K&L2, it's made great. Gameplay is the strongest part of this game. I love artistic direction - the camera, music, characters, gray ugly Shanghai. It doesn't offend your intelligence. Even start menu is art. It's a shame that because of bad reviews, we will most likely never see another sequel.

    The only reason I'm giving it 9, not 10, is because I'm reviewing it in 2018, and bar got higher in recent years.    … Expand

    What sets Kane & Lynch apart from the majority of other games out there is that it puts players in the role of violent, morally bankrupt criminals who are only looking out for numero uno. It gives the game the tone of a gritty crime-drama. The kind that would usually make for a successful movie. The grimy locations and unsympathetic, scumbag characters who make up this seedy experienceWhat sets Kane & Lynch apart from the majority of other games out there is that it puts players in the role of violent, morally bankrupt criminals who are only looking out for numero uno. Where Dog Days stumbles is in it's gameplay, and it's enough to kill the experience.

    The game is presented in a unique found-footage sort of way. It's as if you, the player, are following the characters around with a camcorder. A cool concept, but one that works better in theory than in execution. The grainy visuals and the way the camera shakes when you run do add a sense of believability, but can obscure the action and honestly seems like a way to try and hide the dated graphics. The visuals aren't quite up to par with other 2010 games. The story itself is little more than a "we ticked off everyone" setup. The ending is laughable in it's immediacy. There's a missing final act.

    Not that I would've liked to play through any more chapters than what the game has. This is some very flawed 3rd-person cover shooting. Most guns feel underpowered, level design if often haphazard, and there were plenty of time where I was getting shot despite being in cover. Mix in the fact that enemies often take way more punishment than they should and you've got a recipe for some frustrating shootouts. What really sucks though is how basic it all feels. Gunfights feel like a slow game of whack-a-mole as you wait for the numbskull, generic-looking enemies to pop their heads out of cover. These certainly aren't the brightest AI combatants out there. I swear the positions in cover are not organic at all. Sections I was forced to retry often found my attackers going to the exact same place they were before I died. When they do have to move locations it all breaks down. They often just run out in the open or take cover beside a barrier instead of behind it, allowing for easy kills. What caused my death more than anything was the shear number of them, along with the fact that sometimes they'll just bumrush you. The story simply isn't much fun. Even if you decide to bring a buddy along.

    Multiplayer fares a bit better. The game really makes use of the whole backstabbing criminal element by allowing you to screw over teammates at any point in the game across all game modes. Unfortunately there's nobody online. This also causes the arcade mode to be rendered practically worthless as well. It puts the larger emphasis on potential treachery in the group, and while you can play with AI, it's just not the same as playing with randoms and constantly looking over your shoulder. You could get some friends together, but that would force all of you to own this crappy game.

    With a dull campaign that honestly isn't that gritty or shocking in content, flawed gameplay, and a basically dead online component, there isn't much reason to give Dog Days a look. A shame because there is potential here. It's just not capitalized here very well. Instead of a realistic, dark, and disturbingly violent look at what it's like to be on the other side of the law, what we got is an unremarkable 3rd-person shooter.     It's currently free on Games With Gold on Xbox Live (as of July 2, 2017)

    Good god....one of the worst shooters I have ever played. Two of the most unlikable protagonists ever, who practically are terrorists by the end. Redundant and terrible gameplay, awful dialogue, a racist undertone throughout the whole game (Two white American dudes pillaging Shanghai and killing a lot of people, like police and airport security guards, and, optionally, innocent bystanders). Not to mention an incredibly boring storyline.

    Here's a very watered-down, brief description of the story:

    Two dudes try to cash in on an arms trade deal. It goes south. Protagonists kill a corrupt government official/mob boss's daughter. Said person kills one of the protagonists' girlfriend. They raid a skyscraper and kill the guards and then the mob boss. Then they break into an airport, massacre the guards and force their way into a commercial airline to escape China.
    So yeah, they're terrorists at the end.

    Full of cliches and generally poorly written.

    I wonder if the first game makes the protagonists likable? This game definitely doesn't.

    Now to the gameplay:

    Try to imagine the run-and-gun action of Max Payne 3 combined with the East-Asian gangster action of Sleeping Dogs, which is another Square Enix game (Yes, I know both games came out after this one but this game became relevant again after becoming available on Games With Gold).

    Now water that down. Not just a sprinkle, but an entire reservoir.

    The shooting is wildly unstable. It usually took me half a magazine to get a single kill, unless I were shooting at point blank range. Sprinting is useless, because stamina drains so quickly. All the missions have the same exact general play-style: Massacre everyone, and open some doors sometimes. That's literally it. The gameplay does not change at all from this cycle except in a mission where you ride a helicopter, in which it is just shooting at everything without any moving.

    The "camcorder effect" is unnecessary and makes the cutscenes and visuals during gameplay extremely annoying. Non-sexual nudity is pixelated, which, in my opinion, is unacceptable in a Mature rated game (take a look at Grand Theft Auto V). Either uncensor it or make the full nude scenes into partially nude scenes. Bodies who were killed by headshots are also pixelated, which makes no sense in my opinion, since video games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops II and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim depict uncensored decapitation. Whenever the player takes heavy damage, the screen flickers and parts of it get pixelated as well, which is straining on the eye.

    Nothing at all would make me recommend this game to anyone. It is a shame that Microsoft chose to list this game as its 2017 Xbox 360 Games With Gold title.

    Even though it is free, do not get it. It is a waste of time and hard drive space.

The characters that you know and meet throughout the game seem to forget completely why are they even in Shanghai, (the city where the game takes place), not only that, but some of them tend to be unfamiliarized and forgotten, since one of their most noticeable elements as characters, manage to be forgotten and left into the darkness, seemingly trying to forget that there was a game before this one.

    Gameplay wise, the game is also at it's worst, sadly. Each game mechanic is doubtful, and punishing, because non of them tend to follow the basic inherent rules, that the game gives you, as a player, often times i found myself, dying immediately, meanwhile other times, i found my character falling down, like a sack of potatoes, before i started mashing the, "a button", in order to get up. The worst part of the game lies on the outgoing repetition, the problem is that, Square Enix, had several different times where they could, and should have, added a lot more variety into the gameplay, there are often times where the game could have used, stealth mechanics, or even times where character development could shine if it was represented in a better way.

    You can tell that what, Square Enix, was trying to do, was to create a somehow, "cinematic experience" such as games like, "The Last of Us", or "Shadow of the Collosus", or even "Half Life 2", do, but sadly, they try, and fail miserably at it, mostly because the game it's trying really hard to shock the player, and give some, attachment, to some, irrelevant characters while doing it.
    They start relaying a lot in the superficiality of "violence", in order to get a point across, when they don't realize that the point they're trying to sent is something irrelevant, to the plot line, and the game itself.
    Trying to shock the player by adding a scene of torture, and then a mission where all you do it's the exact same thing you been doing the entire game, only cut up, bleeding, and naked, doesn't mean anything, and only appears out of place, the way that Square Enix does it.

    So truly all you're getting it's a pathetic, excuse, for an, "adult oriented", game that, brinks into the concept of insanity at times, respecting only it's true level of inconsistency, and giving mediocre excuse, of not following, even at it's slightest, it's own plot line, only to, try, and i repeat, try, to "shock the player".
    It's a huge waste of potential, of what could have been one of the most mature, and complex, adult themed, games, aside from Grand Theft Auto. Yes, i truly believe this game could've been revolutionary, even while keeping the core of the concept of the unapologetic result that was, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days.    … Expand

I only played less then half of this game because it was so bad it made me feel like i was wasting my time. I got it at gamestop for like a buck but still it wasn't worth it at all!     Great game. While it's not your typical third person shooter that's exactly what makes it stand out. Forget all the goofs trashing this game. They are all clearly COD boys who can't play anything unless it's laid out in front of them like a buffet. Play it. Like it.

That's Gamespot by the way. But this game seriously lacks in the brains department with its poor plot, its shooting gallery gameplay and horrible looking environments. The cover system is pointless and only serves to get you killed multiple times by magical enemy bullets that defy logic. The weapons, aiming, and corresponding ability to hit an enemy seem to be tied completely to chance and incredibly absurd accuracy balancing. However, when those same weapons are put toQuite possibly the worst game I have ever played in my 22 years of gaming experience. The cover system is pointless and only serves to get you killed multiple times by magical enemy bullets that defy logic. The weapons, aiming, and corresponding ability to hit an enemy seem to be tied completely to chance and incredibly absurd accuracy balancing. However, when those same weapons are put to use by an enemy, they have the accuracy and aiming ability of a hawk hunting a mouse in a hay field. I'm shocked that Naughty Dog allowed Eidos and Square Enix released this pile of excrement without bothering to even play it themselves, as there is no other valid explanation for allowing people to purchase this turd.     I have played this game with a friend in splitscreen on hard and it was a pain to go through. Definitely not a difficult game but the whole shooting element feels off. Sometimes your enemies won't drop, even after unloading a full clip while getting all most all your bullets on target. The story isn't also that great and some of the set pieces are just unbelievable stupid.

    Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Ohhhhh **** dear, Kane & Lynch. Look, I never had much hope in this game being even remotely good in the first place, but I thought they'd have at least hired a team of semi-skilled developers instead of four blind Sixth World country inhabitants slapping at a keyboard for twenty two hours a day without food or water. **** hell... Okay, I'm really starting to wonder if OXM were being sarcastic giving this splat of slow-roasted pig **** a nine out of ten and deeming it a "lovingly crafted, full-bodied shooter." I'm also starting to wonder whether the handheld camera idea was just a sly way of covering up the poor graphics and very frequent visual screw-ups, such as jittery enemies and, more specifically, an invisible Kane holding a cigarette at the beginning of the "Laying Low" mission, in which they were most definitely not laying low as yet another wild gun battle ensues not long into the opening of the mission. Speaking of which, this game is yet another disgusting bottle of perfume using the same formula: running, encountering enemies, fighting them and then moving on to repeat the process not even a minute later...

    This is one of the best online co-op campaign games I have played. If you enjoyed the co-op experiences of Gears of War and Left 4 Dead then I highly recommend this game.

If you enjoyed the co-op experiences of Gears of War and Left 4 Dead then I highly recommend this game.

Kane & Lynch Dog Days completely rebuilt the original game and has made it much more of a shooter as opposed to a squad based shooter with bad AI.

    The graphics are brilliant, even though it would be nice to be able to turn off the you-tube-esque pixelisation. This does add to the overall atmosphere of the game though.

    There is no score which sometimes bothers me, but this time it works, just using lots of ambient noise from around the city you are in.

    The game is essentially a collection of battles but when played on the hardest setting with an appropriate friend this can be a truly visceral experience. Being held down by enemy fire whilst your buddy attempts to flank them is great fun. Bullets flying past your head can be heard in all corners of your surround sound.

    The A.I. of the enemy is very good. Many times we would play a section through thinking we knew exactly what was going to happen and the enemy would surprise us by flanking us or coming from a different point of attack.

    I truly enjoyed this title and look forward to the next adventures of this egregious pair.    … Expand

Maybe I'm too old school, but I thought even for such a short game, the single player experience trumps a majority of titles this year. I played the first one briefly, but they were really trying for something different in this sequel. The IO team really knows their stuff. It's similar to Alan Wake with the sweat-inducing attention to detail.

    The graphics are outstanding, brilliant, and photo realistic. Why people turn off the shakey-cam and other effects, I don't know - you totally lose the whole point. It's among the best looking games released this generation. The look is cellphone cameras - so there's a lot of light leakage, artifacts, IR light. They've perfected high contrast shot outs, every blur you can think of, draw distance tricks, lighting tricks. There's some levels where you're driving, and it looks completely perfect. Another time, you're shooting up a building with a machinegun, and there are tons of artifacts from the virtual camera's sensors shaking around. It's really a must see and beautifully executed.

    When I was at E3, I met a few of the level designers for this game at the Square booth. They told me about how much effort was put into the levels - some of the multiplayer levels are based on real heists. But it doesn't matter, once you see the levels and the amount of detail put into each one, you'll want to replay many times. If you can appreciate microscopically high levels of details, at least rent this game. This game has you running around shanghai - there's one place where you're running through a covered arcade through a fastfood place, electronics shop, and back to the streets shooting cops. The helicopter level is ridiculous - how do they maintain the frame rate throughout?

    The character design again is superb. In Single Player, it's highly realistic and totally cool - i mean the guy you play wears a wifebeater and has a potbelly. Come on! In multiplayer everyone is a "shady european type" Clearly some reference to Ronin. Sound is really impressive too - loud gunshots, cursing from the player characters, and lots of neat things. My girlfriend complains constantly.

    Story isn't very interesting - nothing really happens. Just two killers caught in a horrible situation. Both to blame for their own stupidity. I never felt that I cared about the characters, probably because both of them get shot like 50,000 tines in each level and don't complain. The negatives are that it's pretty damn hard sometimes - once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier. You get shot ALOT and somehow survive without fault. I remember I kept dying horribly on the 3rd level, but then basically never died throughout the game. The AI especially your 3rd, 4th tier companions is REALLY bad. But it doesn't matter, it doesn't detract from the single player experience. Bad guy AI isn't bad, but they're also pretty stupid - This is an area I don't care about, canon fodder is cannon fodder.

    Another interesting note is the linearity of the game. It's completely linear without much choice. BUT 1. who cares? 2. the level design is SO good that you won't notice unless you look for it 3. helps pacing 4. there are a lot of choices when you're in a firefight. There's a few times when you feel a time stress, and I was definitely pressured to act fast. I'm not sure what happens if you run out of time.

    The point is, reviewers on this site are expecting halo or something. Since they turned off shaky cam, they don't care the experience. Maybe they want achievement points or something. I dunno. Just buy this game, it's like $30 at gamestop.    … Expand

The creator of Giant Bomb Jeff G. was fired from Gamespot.com because he didn't give the first Kane and Lynch a high enough score.     unfortunately i have to say the graphics and sound fall below me expectations, although the blood and gore is pretty next level. i would also have 2 say that the point of a crime game is to get you pumped up about killin innocent people and everyting but the muck ups in diss game are quite bothersome, vi$$er out

    Yikes! What the heck? Bad action. Bad story. Bad graphics. Bad this, bad that, bad everything. There is so little value in this game that I feel completely ripped off. I only give it a 2 because the game is not buggy to the point of non-playability. But I can't recommend this to anyone who wants more than a few hours of lousy game play and absolute garbage story and game play mechanics.

    First, we can see that the graphics are really differents of others games. It is "bugging". Also, it is not realist at all. The targets seems to be made in metal, sometimes. I didn't like this game at all. I give 3/10 beause it is a good game for the fans and for those who really really really like this style of game.

I turned off the shaky camera and the graphics suite the action and story well. The story was good, but a little disappointing, *spoiler* especially near the end. Most games there is lag and you see people drifting around and floating etc, but when you get a good game with a host with a good connection it is very intense and fun, especially undercover cop, and fragile alliance. Cops and robbers is ok, but pretty much a team deathmatch with loot, I didn't enjoy that mode at all. I am hoping they patch the match making as some times it is difficult to find a game with constant lobby closing, and hosting a game takes far to long to get a full lobby. If they fix the lag issues as well the multiplayer experience would be top notch, but how it is I would only reccommend for fans of the series as most everything needs a slight fix. I really enjoyed the single player, but was left a little disappointment, the multiplayer is fun when it works.… Expand

    Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is an interesting beast because it really shouldn't exist. Outside of a unique art style it brings nothing new to the genre and does little to improve over the original game, which I might add, was far from a good game.

    Its most striking ideas don't fulfil their promise, and its successes are etched by pervasive minor flaws. The towering, terrifying city, and the lens through which it is shot, drag you onwards through the game's lesser parts, but you sense that the real crime in this whole bloody escapade is that it doesn't live up to its dark flashes of imagination.
