    Yeah this game is f..king kick ass you guys did good job on the game only thing i dont like is when u run n u get chainsawed like 10feet away beside that game is kickass been up for 32hrs playing non-stop.

    Overhyped, overrated. Awful dialogue, contrived and non-existent story elements, short single-player. The A button is used for far too many things - running and cover is a pain the neck to pull off. Multiplayer is solid as long as you can put up with the controls. And for the life of me I can't understand how this game is getting so many good reviews; "pretty" looking graphics and Overhyped, overrated.     Ok I knew that the game would be good but i have to say that Gears Of War exceeds my expectations 100 percent!! The Gameplay is smooth and inovative, unlike any other game on the market. The graphics are absolutely stuning, and the multiplayer is intense and loads of fun. But the best part of the game has to be the chainsaw...there is nothing like cutting a big grasshopper from elbow to Ok I knew that the game would be good but i have to say that Gears Of War exceeds my expectations 100 percent!!     this is obviously a great game. the graphics are stunning and the gameplay is phenomenal. this game was very overly hyphed though. i really thought it was missing something. i think they should have spent more time too make it absolutley perfect. its still a great game and should be boughten, but i think it cud be better

    frist off im not a big first shooter fan anyway but wanted to try this game becuase it was hyped and theres not many good games for the 360 yet. the game has great graffics but it still dosent challenge the player in new and fun ways. just mindless shooting and nothing else.

    It's been a long time since I've sat in my office thinking about getting home so I can play a game. Gears has captivated me completely. There are so many standout moments along with the "best I've ever seen on a console" graphics, that this game should not be missed.

Its really hard to truly describe the masterpeice that is Gears of War. between the hectic gameplay, heart-stopping visuals, chainsaw bayonet, the unforgettable campaign moments (such as the first Berserker fight), the spot- on voice acting, the cinematic appeal, and the overall AWESOMENESS of it all, its really hard to pick which part of GoW stands out the most. but stop for a Wow. Its really hard to truly describe the masterpeice that is Gears of War. between the hectic gameplay, heart-stopping visuals, chainsaw bayonet, the unforgettable campaign moments (such as the first Berserker fight), the spot- on voice acting, the cinematic appeal, and the overall AWESOMENESS of it all, its really hard to pick which part of GoW stands out the most. but stop for a second, throw the super smooth co-op into it all, and you've got all of the aforementioned, only doubled, and with a friend, making the overall game a true 360 MUST BUY title. plus, its got offline split-screen, which is a feature that (sadly) is becoming incredibly rare now a days. there are the occasional hiccups with the physics and graphics, but these are almost non-existant when you take into account the whole scope of the game. here's to hoping for Gears of War 2. 9.9 out of 10 p.s.     This game has some impressive textures but I am really disappointed by the particle effects and the bullet holes. The drawing of the bullets and the gun holes look absolutely last gen, and do nothing other than block your view when you are firing at enemies at a lare distance. More detailed it might be, but it is much less visually attractive compared to Lost Planet and GRAW and even Halo 2. Its like, the game is very detailed, but somehow you don't want to stand there to admire the scenery. Halo 2 was a game which i felt didn't really look that detailed, but the way the plasma shots and explosions and lighting are drawn, really makes the firefight really beautiful. But this is not the case in Gears .The game play is okay, but the drones' AI could really get some improvement. It feels like you are just shooting at rubber ducks that bob up and down from the cover. The controls are a bit out of control when you come into melee range of your enemy, and that is when you realise that Gears could really make use of Rainbow Six: Vegas's first/third person system. The game is still good and above average in my opinion, but its single-player just isn't as good as everybody hypes it up to be. The speeches in the cutscenes are sometimes embarassingly dumb and meaningless, when they could potentially be used to great effect to bring out the story much much more. With a more effective art styling and some tweaking of the controls and camera angles, I feel that the game would have felt alot more organic and easy to play.… Expand

I remember bitching about dumb friendlies getting in your way as long ago as Half Life and these guys still haven't figured it out. And nobody seems to have noticed how weak the effects are. This is XBox 360 for god's sake it should be possible to do way better than this, I can't see any excuse for it. As far as overall presentation goes, the story and characters are just adolescent and the setting is pretty stupid too (why are there burnt out cars from the 80s lying about in a futuristic alien world?) Finally, it's only around 6 to 8 hours long. Worth a rental to look at the pretty environments but that's about it.… Expand

    This game is definantly one that is an instant buy. I played through the campaign mode with a buddy of mine and we loved every second of it. The level of visual quality is perfectly paired with the level of sound quality in this game. The voice overs are awesome. The guns, enemys, enviorments, etc. all combine to help you immerse yourself to a level that was once know only by Halo. Along This game is definantly one that is an instant buy.     Yo this game is fun, to co-op is cool, the action is tight, so is the look but online sucks. There needs tobe a 4 player split screen and you will spend most of your time trying to get in to the same game along with your friends. Therefore please update your online cause it is really weak.

    It is way too overhyped! It is not that good its just a shooting game that you just hide behind walls and other stuff most of the time, but if you like Ghost Recon, this is your game!

The chainsaw is the one of the best weapons ever having the blood spray all over the screen. but to Steve M. you are on crack and wasted and you deserve to have Marcus Felix come over to your house and chop you up with a chainsaw forthis game is the best third person shooter i have ever played.     This is a game for me. The immersive environments, the better-than-hollywood story, the obviously incredible graphics all enhance the most enjoyable action gameplay I've experienced in years. It never gets old or frustrating (actually it does when your online and in a match with a team that plays it like it's Halo or doesn't communicate - hopefully that will end soon). If you don't own a 360 - Here's a reason to go get one.… Expand

    This game was hyped way to much!!! The game is beautiful, but the game play gets boring after about an hour. Its the same thing over and over agian. No new originality. I think they focused to much on the graphics and not on the gameplay. The single player campaign is way to short and lacking in a lot of areas. Even if you do complete the campaign level in 6 hours (which means you're playing it on the easiest level and are, therefore, a wimp), you'll definitely want to go back and beat it on the Hardcore and Insane settings.     This game is a must buy for any Xbox 360 owner. This is really the killer game that the system needed. It does not get a full 10 out of 10 due to retarded AI, texture glitches, and random Multiplayer glitches. Still is one of the best game i have played this year, hands down.

    Dont believe the other ratings! These people only rated the single player mode. Multiplayer and online are so utterly amazing that it outshines anything ever created for online. If you love to get the blood pumpin and enjoy edge of your seat competion....then buy this game. The hype was under-rated!

Also... the voice acting of the lead is a LITTLE weak. Its not as bad as some games.... but. I dont know. There are SO MANY voice actors out there... is the really the best they could do??? The guy who plays Gus was outstanding tho. Overall... this game lives up to the hype and then some. Games usually DONT live up to the hype (in my opinion ... take FEAR for example) But this one (while a little short) is definitely worth the price of admission.… Expand

    Awesome gameplay!! the graphics are superb, but the gameplay is just as good. the innovative reload system and the great cover system make this game highly enjoyable. and with the AI having all the same resources and moves you do it is great to play. they take cover, flank, duck away from gunfire and shoot better than enemies in most games. I love this game!!

    Its a solid shooter that is really marred by crappy AI and linear level design. The texture detail is pretty amazing though and the environments are really great to look at. Its unfortunate that the gameplay cannot live up to the standard set by the visuals.

    Campaign mode is sorely lacking. The game is fun and the graphics are awesome but you'll be disappointed if you shell out sixty bucks. Rent it and beat it in the 6 hours it takes to do so.

Usualy I get motion sick with FPS, but the fact that this game is a Third Person Shooter and the controls and perfectly balanced and responsive, makes you feel you are 100% in control all the time. You feel like you're really Best Graphics I've ever seen. Best Shooter I've ever played. and finally something fresh for us who don't lose sleep over sports games and FPS.     A very unique experience. A nice break from all the run and gun and hack and slash FPS. To compare this with Halo or call it a Halo clone is ridiculous. They're two different styles of games. Best Graphics on any console hands down. With high def and surround sound it's an experience you will never forget.

    I think that everybody loves this game only because its the first real next generation game. Sure the graphics and sound are simply amazing I must agree but its the same thing over and over again kill the locust blow up there emergence holes move on its the same thing as any other 3rd person shooter.     People that rate this lower than an 8 must not own a 360. All they can say is that its repetitive! This game is a classic. Multiplayer is awesome, and story mode is different when you run through it 3 or 4 times. Don't choose the same path and it wont be repetitive. KICK ASS GAME

    Overall, if you stripped the game of the flashy next gen graphics, you'll find a game that lacks personality or originality, in many distinct ways. From the main character who's as original as any other Nukem retread, to the enemies, Gears is all hype and no real bite. Especially considering the fact that games like Prey and F.E.A.R. include unique gameplay designs wrapped into their conventional genres, Gears ends up like how GTA clones turn out, a tad too close to their idol ( in this case Halo) and too far from being a classic on it's own. In all, it's an overrated triple title, that lacks a soul, this game is designed for mass market and it shows, thanks alot Cliffy B. and Peter Moore...enjoy the money.… Expand

    This is one of the best shooters that i've ever played. Graphics are amazing, sound matches perfectly. An awesome soundtrack also. I highly suggest this game. Best game out for 360.

    An amazing game that suddenly renewed my interest in the FP shooter genre again. I have to admit I'm a pretty jaded and long time gamer (early 80's) and like many, feared this would be either be another Brute Force or a typical formulamatic shooter. But I was definately wrong. Dead wrong. Forget that this game would put graphic whores in pure ecstasy, but the gameplay works well An amazing game that suddenly renewed my interest in the FP shooter genre again. Repetitive game play? I think not. The coop mode is pretty sweet, but the versus mode simply enhances the games longetivity. Its only 4v4, but the maps are made perfectly accomodating for that amount. Now I only hope if they make a sequel they include 4 player coop....… Expand

    This game is amazing. the graphics, gameplay proves that this could be the game to beat Halo 3 but we'll have to wait and see. It was either FEAR or GOW and I guess I made the right decision. The best game for 06' PERIOD!

    Brilliant. It's technically superb and flat out fun. I've never played a game which inspires a player to take cover and evade fire instead of rushing straight into it. The level design is excellent and the atmosphere is thick and tense. A classic. Together with Elder Scrolls: Oblivion...this game makes the 360 the system of choice for the Next Gen thus far.

    Innovative cover system, you really feel like your hiding with bullets whizzing above your head. Great solid multiplayer. Brilliant Co-op. Negatives are too few maps and modes for online multi.

    Had I not already bought an Xbox 360 earlier this year, Gears of War would have forced me to.     The most addictive game I have played in years. Great controls, great audio and great visuals. The learning curve is steep enough to keep the game fresh; while the restarts resulting from frequent deaths I incur are not as tedious as most games. It's a compelling co-op game. As sweet of gaming as it gets.

    This is a great game with a couple shortcomings. It looks great, it plays great, and is a lot of fun. I would have like to seen 4 person split screen and a longer campaign. Versus online is fun, but I get most of my kills with the chainsaw which is cool but I would like to kill more enemies with my gun. Online Co-Op Rocks!

    This game is magical. the gameplay is engaging and just plain fun. just try it, you will be hooked by this games depth and quality. you wont find a better game this year on any system. you just wont. and the chainsaw never gets old.

Multi-player is excellent for the limited time I have played it. Good team work is rewarded and Rambo-style play will get you killed quick.     Story mode was fun. End boss was to easy to beat though. The reason I give this game a 10 is because the graphics are what you expect, same with the sound. Multiplayer is HUGE!! I'm officially finished with halo until part 3 comes out.

    Excellent game with well paced action and bits of story. The roadie run has a great gritty war feel with on the fly field of view changes. The graphics are gorgeous yes, but thats not all that sells it. The level design is well done and easy to follow. Weapons are balanced. Its done 3rd person right with excellent cameras and action. A must have app for the 360.

    Thanks to Epic's "Gears of War" XBOX 360 gamers are finally getting an idea of what this game system can do! GoW is like a lethal combo of "Aliens", Predator", and "Starship Troopers" with a little "Blade Runner" thrown in for effect. The result is absolutely AWESOME!

    This game is awesome. Alot of folks are sayings its not innovative and its not as good as the hype but what this game is is FUN. its graphics are smoking, load times are fast, the creatures are interesting. Havnt had this much fun with a game since halo 2.

    Honestly, I haven't had so much fun playing a game in a long time. Buy twenty copies to share with your friends. Oh, and to the people who bash this game the same way they bashed Halo just because those games were popular, go to hell. Find a better way to feel sophisticated.

    This game is genius, an amazing 3rd person shooter. The idea of a chainsaw bayonet is insane,blood and gore is used perfectly. This game is a 10 of 10.

    Well, I'm giving this game a 10 simply because it's my new favorite of all time. I love it. At first, I started playing and was like...okay, the graphics are beautiful but am I really going to love it? It grows on you. Sweet gameplay in single-player, co-op and multiplayer! When you start playing in the cover system, it is sooo much fun. Always stick with a squadmate!

    If there is one complaint, it's that the single player campaign is too short. You don't wanna stop playing this game. The quick cover A buttom is cool, and the active re-loading feature (once perfected) is awesome... Oh, and it's got the coolest graphics around... 10!

I had severe doubts about this game, and figured it could just be another over-hyped flop, like Brute Force was a few years ago, which was also hyped up to be "The next Halo". There's so many amazing things in Gears of War that I don't really know where to start.     I have to admit, I fell into all the Hype about this game as well, and it has left me a bit disappointed and $60 poorer. The Graphics are very, very, very good and the sound effects are just the same. The Graphics/Artwork are what I would expect to see from a well produced comic book with "Dark" overtones. The Controls are more than ok, but not great. The maps to me are not as large as I I have to admit, I fell into all the Hype about this game as well, and it has left me a bit disappointed and $60 poorer. The Online maps are Small compared to the largeness of the Caricatures and scenery. Maybe that's why they only allow a Total of 8 players. 4 on each team. So, you run around wildly while blasting away at your opponent. Hmmm Not much fun after about 15 minutes of that. So kids, that's why I rated this game as I did.     This game is a master piece couldn't put it down Can't wait for the enivitable release if GOW2 . It's a great game of players who enjoy cinematic views and great land scapes. The fire fights are as close to real life as u can get.

The friendly A.I. is the second worst part of the game as they do nothing but get themselves killed constantly and don't listen to orders. You'll numerous This game is for the most part phenomenal. You'll numerous times go out to get them up and die yourself. The story seems to grow on you the further you play, but isn't as engaging as Halo's. Although the graphics are better than anything else ever, they have still been toned down quite a bit since May 2005 when it was first said to be running in-game and the anti-aliasing isn't running at full steam so there are quite a bit of jaggies with the occasional pop-up and texture swapping. The controls are tight, but using the A button for running AND getting behind cover was a bad design choice. You get stuck on objects when you'd rather be running and sometimes you want to get behind cover and it doesn't work at all leaving you open for death. All in all though, I have never had this much fun with a single player game. It plays like a great cross between GRAW and Halo. Kinda realistic, but not so realistic that it gets tedious like GRAW does. Now to the worst part of the game: Multiplayer. The good stuff is the multiplayer looks exactly like single player, meaning it wasn't toned down graphically like just about every other game online on the 360. Now to the bad: There are NO RESPAWNS so for those of us that don't have the time to master this game but just want to play occasionally we are screwed into sitting out most of the time. The controls don't work quite as well online, maybe because of the lag spurts, but it still hurts the gameplay. You'll get behind someone and go to use the chainsaw and nothing happens even when you aren't getting shot at or anything. Just a half animation that even your dead teamates see and say WTF? Why didn't it work? You'll also get chainsawed by someone that's 10 feet away too. Again, a lag issue. But it is to be expected with the engine pushing these graphics with 8 players all at once. Only a few of the weapons can actually kill someone, like the special ones lying around the map but USUALLY not the ones you start with, so most of the time they will only go down from regular weapons and you have to run up to them and kill them with one of your melee attacks. This kinda sucks considering throught the entire campaign these standard weapons work as they should..killing tools. The shotgun can kill someone up close online, but trying this will usually get you chainsawed. The problem with shooting someone and them only going down and not dying is that you just earned a kill and now you have to run out in the open across the map to finish them off leaving yourself vulnerable to being killed while the person you just downed gets back up. And that's how most kills work when you do it with bullets first, so I feel it was a bad design choice making it so easy for people to go down only to have the person that runs out to finish them off get chainsawed again for the 100th time. Basically though, the MP comes down to who can chainsaw who first. This is why I only give this game a 9. You see, the MP is already one of the most simplistic MP games ever, which works better than some other deeper games, but gets cheap when the whole thing comes down to the chainsaw as most of the weapons don't do enough alone. Most of the time people don't even try to play using weapons, cover and the entire map. They just run to the middle of the map and chainsaw it out or run for the sniper rifle making most matches last about 30 seconds. All in all, a great game with a phenominal single player experince I can't wait to play through again and again on the differnt difficulties. The multiplayer on the other hand feels a little thrown together and is nothing more than a showcase for the chainsaw and death animations as nothing else really ever gets you a kill except the occasional sniper rifle or torque bow and the curb stomp which is another move you have to do after downing someone leaving yourself vulnerable yet again. It's still worthy of a purchase anyway just to see it in motion. COD3's online plays better and offers plenty more options, other than the now sorely missing cover feature, but after seeing the graphics in this one COD3 looks like a last gen game making it hard to play at all. Too bad the MP is so bland and cheap in GOW or this would be an almost perfect game. Bots would have helped a lot for practice seeing as the enemy A.I. in the story is better than most human players so far and actually look for cover and don't use cheap tactics like the constant chainsaw for kills.… Expand

    Overall an excelent game but the horror/survival parts, while they do get your heart rate going, are more of a nusiance rather than something that enhances the game.

    Very nice! This game is an excellent third person shoot, resident evil 4 anyone? single player is awesome, points of terror, points of all out fire fights. The mutliplayer is having some issues with not letting people connect, but the games I have played have been fun, a very well made game, that actually lives up to the hype surronding it.

    Thoroughly average. Tried and tested game formula is finally getting tiring. All the separate components are nice; graphics, music but is just held back by such repetitive gameplay. I could play this again for an hour and not need to play more.

    This is what I envisioned as "Next-Gen" gameplay when I bought the 360 almost a year ago. The single player mode has been a blast, and the chainsaw / rifle may go down as one of the best weapons ever created in videogame history! Can't wait to try out the multi-player co-op!

    The wait for a system seller on Xbox 360 is over. This game lives up to the massive hype and is easily the best game you can buy on Xbox 360. Forget the rest go get yourself Gears of war and enter the real next generation of games. In single player, co-op or online with friends you're going to have the ride of your life.

    Wowzers 0_o...the multiplayer is so good that I was pretty much speechless. The chainsaws, bombs, brain-plattering headshots, and gore are just the beginning of what is truly a tactical TPS game that defines what Next-Gen means. Props to MS and Epic for giving us such an awesome game and I can't stopping thinking about it as I'm typing this...must go play now.

    70 bucks down the drain. I finished the game in 5 hours and since I don't have online it's practically worthless to me now. it was fun while it lasted but not challenging and waaaaaay too short. The shortest game I've ever played in my life. Bloody EB won't give me my cash back eitehr, only trade in.... sigh

    "This is why I bought a X360, for games like this." GoW is "Pure beauty, Pure excitement, and Pure fun." Great game. Other developers should take notes, and quit giving us prettier ports of current gen games.

    An unforgettable thrill ride that was perhaps a little too forgiving and didn't feature enough explosions (after playing Company of Heroes, every game needs more explosions, right?). Regardless, it is worth buying an Xbox 360 to play this and the next Rainbow Six.

    If you're a graphics whore, you absolutely, positively need to pick this game up. To say that Gears of War features "next-gen graphics" is a gross understatement. It's got the most impressive graphics ever seen in a video game, and the stellar art direction only makes it more beautiful.
