I must have dumped 300+ hours into this game over the years. The campaign is one of the best I've ever experienced, offering a lengthy (around 10 hours) and cinematic experience that impressed me on all fronts. Act 3 is one of the best gaming experiences of all time and warrants a purchase itself. The multiplayer is superb and refined, and the horde mode is better than ever. This game screams replay value. I got it the day it came out and I still play it today, 3 years later. This is truly one of the best games I've ever played. Expand

A great way to end the Gears Of War trilogy. Great amounts of gore and fun in this game. Play it, it's pretty cheap now.

    Verdict:
An awesome game that ends the GOW trilogy very well.

This is my first game of GoW series. This game is absolutely enjoyable and very good. Especially i laughed a lot for Cole. About story, its not boring and you want to play all day. And the ending i suprised very much. If you got a Xbox 360, you have to play this game. If you don't you will be miss a lot of things.

    O desfecho foi perfeito,com frases,ângulos de câmera,duração,tudo da forma que deveria ser,além de deixar uma pequena mais não certa brecha para uma sequência.Tomorrow;
NADA CONSEGUE TIRAR O MÉRITO DESSA SAGA.

With that being said though, this iteration is definitely the most cinematic of the three. The first one didn’t really have any narrative, the second one had its moments that felt cinematic but the third is really where they perfected the nuance of storytelling.

Gears of War 3 was an excellent addition to the trilogy. I would really have to sit down and figure out which one is my favorite. I’ll probably do that at some point after I’ve played Judgement and Gears of War 4. But for now, this is an excellent game that has aged very well.

Gears of War 3, in my opinion, is the best Gears of War game of the series. It improves once again on all fronts, making an even better campaign with some truly gut-punching moments and events that feel desperate as ever, a multiplayer that arguably was solid despite issues, a horde mode 2.0 that made the experience rewarding and great and a beast mode that twisted the concept of hordeGears of War 3, in my opinion, is the best Gears of War game of the series. It improves once again on all fronts, making an even better campaign with some truly gut-punching moments and events that feel desperate as ever, a multiplayer that arguably was solid despite issues, a horde mode 2.0 that made the experience rewarding and great and a beast mode that twisted the concept of horde mode and made being a Locust unit feel badass and awesome. Where to even begin...

Alot of hardcore Gears fans will tell you this is the worst of the series due to the homogenizing of its multiplayer in favor of a "COD" approach with weapon skins and custom classes, but I actually quite liked it. The smooth flow of the combat made it tolerable to play against players despite not adapting a 60fps game for a smoother experience. The different weapons added variety and forced players to behave differently than previous games. It ultimately though was DOA after the first month for the community in that regard, which really is a shame but as they say "different strokes for different folks".

The campaign still had a few issues, but with the death of Dominic Santiago and great set piece moments like "Break Neck Sprint, a four player coop that fully utilized the team that the series had in tow for years realized and new enemies and weapons, it just made the game feel far better overall. It ends on a fairly good note, although the Queen boss fight would not be a particularly good fight to end on. The death of the Queen by Marcus stabbing her with Dominic's knife was pretty dam good, and the gravitas of not just his death, but ALL the deaths by the Locust Horde was symbolized through Marcus's rough and gruff demeanor.

The horde mode is fantastic. You earn money through killing enemies, can share it with your teammates, have challenges to earn more money and build things to prove helpful in fighting the hordes. It made going through waves easier and adding boss rounds every 10 waves was really great and felt like a mad scramble to beat them. Some maps are better than others to play it on however, as Brumaks clipping through small maps like Checkout and Escalation really makes it hard to win. Overall, a huge improvement for the mode from 2 and was my favorite mode.

Beast mode's first time in the fray proved far more successful than Horde in Gears 2, making Locust units increase in type as you killed more and earned more money. Tearing through barricades as a Berzerker was amazing, being an Armoured Kantus was the coolest thing for me as I spike rolled people and used dual machine pistols. Having some more support units would have been preferable, but what was there was really good.

There are a couple missteps. In terms of DLC, Microsoft never really sold me on its maps for multiplayer nor side campaigns. In Gears 2, their dlc was more or less a deleted section of gameplay that adds very little to the overall game's campaign, making it effectively overpriced. As for Gears 3's RAAM's shadow, there were good parts in it, but ultimately fail to achieve their goals because they try to overwrite the lore and story of the game's universe and assume people who play it are too dumb to see it. It's also short, but far far longer than the previous dlc. It introduces characters that don't really develop well organically and is more of a fanservice of the lowest minority who care about the Gears universe (such as Barrick who is only in the comics). It was overall mediocre, and unfortunately this mindset would turn the next Gears game into a prequel dream and ruin much of the namesake as a result.

Gears of War 3 will always be my favorite of the series. If we graphed the franchise in order, then Gears 3 would be the peak of the franchise for me, regardless if veterans would disagree strongly. A game should always be judged by its entirety and not just its main hook. Even if someone only plays Gears for the multiplayer, I like playing games in their entirety to experience the work (or lack of) put into them by the teams who make them. In the case for 3, it served as my favorite Gears entry and one of the best third-person games of all time.

Gears of War 3 is great, but not as innovative as the previous two. There are new additions and online modes, but the formula is pretty much the same. - Graphics are amazing. Concentration on detail can be found on objects everywhere, such as armor, environment and characters. Light and shadow effects are implemented beautifully.

    (Major pro)
    - The storyline is awesome. Especially Dom's story. (For those who played Gears of War 2)

    (Moderate pro)
    - The game presents different situations for the player to use a certain type of weapon in order to be the most effective. The game offers unique and interesting weapons.

    - Multiplayer gives immense replay value.

    Cons:
    (Moderate con)
    - Some may find the constant gunning down enemies and moving to the next area only to gun down more enemies a repetitive task, but the game tries to mix it up with different scenarios, which keeps it as fresh as possible.

    (Minor con)
    - Sometimes you may find your teamates waltzing in and blocking your way while you are shooting an enemy.

    (Minor con)
    - Teamates do not come to your aid immediately when you are down and in need of revival. (This may be intentional by the developers in order to make it not too easy.)

The only flaw is that enemies are not as tough as in gears 1 or 2 but they are a great challenge. A must-play, specially in new hardware.

The shooting is still Gears brand of cover shooting that so many games have tried to copy, but the further in that I get in the series the more comfortable it gets. New weapons and the ever present active reload makes you feel pretty skilled in each encounter. Also, Silverbacks are a really cool addition to the universe!

The thing that keeps me coming back to these games isn't really the shooting so much as the clever and unique ideas that they come up with to build the world. From Brumacs to Locust Boats and Airships, it's really neat to see what the developers are going to think of next.

Full disclosure, I have not fired up multiplayer. There is no way mutliplayer in Gears 3 can be worse than Gears 2. Gears 3 has a few inventive set pieces and a handful of intense firefights, but Gears 2 really outshines all that Gears 3 offers. Remember fighting your way through a giant worm, fighting off a killer fish, riding a Brumack, drilling into Sera to fight the Grubs on their homeFull disclosure, I have not fired up multiplayer. There is no way mutliplayer in Gears 3 can be worse than Gears 2. Gears 3 has a few inventive set pieces and a handful of intense firefights, but Gears 2 really outshines all that Gears 3 offers. Remember fighting your way through a giant worm, fighting off a killer fish, riding a Brumack, drilling into Sera to fight the Grubs on their home turf, the Sire's, and Cole Train's speech over the PA system? That was all in Gears of War 2. It was great. Gears of War 3 gives us less of the same. Riding an inflated beast thing was interesting, but the beast catapults were boring. Seriously, catapults versus helicopters? Helicopters can move in all axis and thus helicopters would win every time. Many of the firefights in Gears 3 were a chore. The area of play is quite small on each level. Compare the battlefields of Gears 3 to Halo: Reach. In Gears 3 you have a few tiny fences the players cannot cross, steps down that the players cannot go back up, and piles of rubble blatantly placed to pen in the player. The good games (like Halo: Reach) have moved beyond invisible walls to give us an almost open world feel. (And then, of course, there are the open world games). The levels in Gears 3 are stuck in the mid 2000s. The story doesn't help. From start to finish, Gears 3 is just another road movie. You go from point A, a sinking ship, to point B, a secret island. All the battles in between thus feel like they get in the way of your progress. At the very end, when you do storm that secret island, you finally feel like you are really working toward something. All in all, Gears 3 is a fun game. There was that moment near the end where time got away from me. Some of the weapons are also noteworthy. The One-Shot does what it says and is fun to use. Another fun weapon is a machine gun tied to an ammo pack. You hold the gun while a teammate has to carry around the ammo. The Retro-Lancer had me running around maps looking for enemies to bayonet. Clearly the developers know what is fun and what isn't. To me, it seem they used up all of their best ideas in the second installment. Expand

Gears of War 3 was a super fun play. It had fantastic graphics, great mechanics, and there's a chainsaw on your gun. My issues with this game only resided in the characters and the storyline. I'm definitely not a big fan of fenix, and the story was too cheesy for me. I couldn't really handle it.

I like the game. The problem is that i dont love it. Why? Because its the same with gow 2. It is definately a must for gow fans. The same goes for halo games. The are a must for their fans. If you are not a fan then maybe you find it repetitive.

Subtle refinements can be found throughout, However outside of some expansion to the multiplayer element it doesn't do that much new for the series. Still this is one any 360 owner needs to check out.

The campaign is exactly what you would expect from a Gears game. The four-player co-op has never been better, but outside of a few new enemy types and some great set-pieces it doesn't really do anything new. However it is hard to complain when the action is this solid. It's still a heck of a lot of fun.

The story behind it all is pretty solid as well. However the emotional moments fall flat due to the way these steroid-pumped heroes have always been presented. It concludes the series well though and manages to have some interesting twists on what we all thought was going on.

When you're finished with the campaign the massive multiplayer will keep you busy for a very long time. Matches are a blast and the maps are well designed. The co-op modes steal the show however. Horde mode is back and bigger than ever. The beast mode is an interesting twist that puts you in the role of the Locust racing against the time during rounds. Whatever mode you play you are in for hours of fun.

However multiplayer has one big issue nowadays; you have to buy all the DLC in oder to play on dedicated servers. Not downloading the DLC means no multiplayer for you. You can download the on free map pack and be able to play on host servers so it's not so bad. However in order to experience the full force of it you better be willing to shell out some cash for the DLC. Something to keep in mind if you are planning to rent this game like I did.

Overall despite it's flaws this is a complete package. It's a fitting end to the story of one of the 360's biggest series. With action and content this tight, it would be foolish for any 360 owner to pass this up.

Also I didn't get to keep any of my Beta unlocks because I was unaware that you needed your saves to keep them, I assumed multiplayer unlocks were saved online as they should be. So you cant play multiplayer at a friends house because you need your saved data. My only other complaint is the campaign script. Cheesy, corny punch lines one after another. Its hard to take the characters seriously at times. Besides those few minor issues, this is a great game. The multiplayer gameplay is unmatched fun and the variety of ways to play online means for endless fun. Horde, Beast, Versus, and Arcade modes give you plenty of hours of fun gameplay. Not to mention, there is nothing more satisfying then blowing and enemy to bits with one shot from your Gnasher. Gears of War 3 was exactly what I thought it was going to be, a stellar finish to a great trilogy. This third installment included all the things that I thought the second game was missing. To break down the different modes, I will start with the Campaign. The graphics were great, and the implementation of 4 player co-op finally gave a reason for "Baird and Cole". The graphics were great, and the implementation of 4 player co-op finally gave a reason for "Baird and Cole". I love the fact that I could play the entire story mode with all of my friends instead of having to play through 3 times with different buddies. The story was a bit vague and quick and some sections leave you asking "huh?". Overall the story was action packed and fun.

Versus is a bit more fair and polished than GoW2 The weapons give balance from what was previously a gnasher fest. Even though people scream that the sawed off is cheap, it really helps balance a game that was plagued by shotgun abusers. The maps and the added modes like Team Death Match (TDM) help to strengthen the game. The ability to grace your guns with skins, and selected from a ton of characters keep the game interesting.

The bread and butter in my opinion is Horde mode. When playing GoW2's horde mode, I would get bored around wave 30. The new fortifications and boss waves keep the game very interesting. You don't just focus on staying alive and killing, but now saving your money and building up to help you against the horde.

Anyways I've played through the first act in the campaign and spent a good bit of time with the new horde mode and beast mode.

Horde2.0 is badass- they've added an RTS type element to it, where you build fortifications, turrets, etc, as well as boss waves which are pretty awesome too.

Beast mode is pretty cool, although it seems like once you get the berserker it's game over humans. It's definitely fun playing around with some of the monsters. Corpsers and bloodmounts are two of my faves.

Campaign so far is pretty good, although some of the dialogue is kinda terrible. The jokes aren't funny and there are a lot of them. So far, it seems to lack any of the tense moments from the previous games, although I admit that I'm only through the first act, so it is really hard to judge it accurately.

I currently have no internet connection, but I'm not missing the multiplayer. There is enough single player (or local co-op) content here to completely ignore the online play and have a good time.

I can understand that this may not be the game for everybody, but there's just no way this game deserves anything less than, say, a 6 or 7. Period.

    Hope you find this useful.

It seems like Epic kind of let some of the more interesting story and gameplay ideas fall by the way side. It's still fun to play through the story but its definitely not the game's strong point. Horde and competitive multiplayer are where the value lay in this game. Gears of war 3 really does improve from its previous games adding 4 player co-op anytime, adding a tower defense horde, and a faster and well design competitive mode. There is Beast mode but that seems more of an after thought or an extra to play with your friends and not by your self. To get to the point, the campaign is sold with some creative moments but after half way through the campaign, it does get repetitive after awhile. The game does pick up a lot better at the final act after act 4. Campaign does come with a arcade mode for scores and death free game overs. The story ends the series and finishes the fight , don't expect too much unless you played the first 2 games before Gears 3. The reason for this is because of the lack of character development for any other characters besides Marcus. Some of the depressing moments can be little cliche yet, it can be a little surprising for those fans of the series. Horde mode adds fortifications as a second defense against the horde of both Locust and Lambent. Each 10th wave adds a boss giving you challenging and huge beast to take on. This gives players many opinions how they want to advance there play styles. Beast Mode seems more an extra allowing players to play as the Locust against the humans but only for 12 waves. Its best not playing Beast Mode by your self. Lastly is the multiplayer adding new layers to gameplay but a bit scare some for veteran players. Gears 3's multiplayer adds new weapons, bunch of new characters to select from, and pay to use gun skins. 9 maps plus 4 free DLC maps bring as well as old and refined classic maps from previous Gears of war tiles. 2 of the major weapons such as the SoS shotgun and retro lancer bring a new coward to the series as well as new and familiar mode Team DeathMatch. At first, it does seem to hurt the skill that the Gears series always had but with a few updates, Gears of war 3 still takes skill to master and a steep learn curve when playing the major Gears of war modes (execution and Guardian mode). Overall, Gears of War 3 may not impress some of the hardcore fans that stayed in the series but personally, it still has its hardcore/skill charm that rewards better players and forces newer players to understand, improve and learn from experiences. I suggest the buy knowing your planning to play it online or with local co-op, other then that, the game is best for rent. Expand

It's quite laughable how the series tries to act serious even though there's chainsaw guns and orbital death rays. They downgraded many of the guns and ruined the gorgon pistol. They thought most of the weapons were too overpowered for multiplayer so the hammer of dawn has a smaller radius and a meeker beam. The lancer is extremely overpowered though, you can run through multiplayer and easily win the match simply by running and revving the aforementioned chainsaw gun. They talk about balancing even though the mortar (which actually is quite easy to obtain and can actually bomb half the map) mulcher , and Vulcan are easily accessible. You actually have to pay for on-disc, level-locked content as dlc. Most of the maps are pretty awful and so is the audio whenever you chat with headsets. Still, the active reload system is ingenious and so are the boss battles. Too bad that most of the shining stars of the weapon list are rarely accessible in campaign. It actually presses your tear ducts when Dom passes away. I could care less for the new characters. Expand

Gears of War 3 is epic. I haven't had this much fun in a game since Bulletstorm, which Epic games helped build as well. The story is pretty good, but Gears 2's was much better. The visuals are also very nice. The multiplayer and horde modes are great too, and extend it's playtime. But the gameplay is where the real fun is with Gears 3.

GoW3's campaign is about as good as the second game's. It's an intense finale with some truly epic moments. With four modes, there's plenty of content in this entry, making it another fine entry in the series. I'd give it an 8.5/10, just like GoW2, but it pulls slightly ahead perhaps because of the extra mode. Expand

Less darker than the previous instalments in the series, but still violent and badass enough to be a true Gears of War game.

While the gameplay is redefined for the better, with a larger arsenal of weapons and tools to experiment with, the campaign seems like a step-back. The multiplayer is the star of the show for sure, and the addition of Beast Mode is what the series really needed.

As a long term Gears fan I must say the 3rd tittle is more than a little disappointing. The MP is better than in Gears 2 but the SP is pretty bad. The AI is idiotic and having your teammates constantly revive changes the game dynamic in such a way that it doesn't have any of the Gears magic anymore. Not a bad game at all, for me it's the graphics, and the gameplay, solid effort, their are a few little issues here that dampen the experience here within the multiplayer aspect that negates the score. Worth a buy if you own an xbox360, as not many more exclusives to come, unless you own a kinect.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I was really expecting this game and it not let me down, despite some minor problems. If you take it for a brainless game, just for the fun of the action, you'll enjoy it, otherwise it's quite shallow and do not offer a real challenge. The game it's really short, the storytelling seems rushed and you lose all the sympathy you had to use with Marcus and company. I missed some machine using. The sub part, for example, you should drive it, as cars and maybe even motorcycles to get some action and break the liniarity of the game. In other hand, Graphics are amazing and really beautiful. At least, give you some closure for the trilogy. If you are a fan and like to play multi players online, you must have, otherwise, just rent. In a rainy Sunday you might get to end of this game. On the plus side, the multiplayer have improved vastly. With ribbons to earn and earning the cash to buy weapons etc this is the reason to purchase this game. The multiplayer is the saving grace.
All in all the graphics have improved with every game, the story is worthy of a Hollywood blockbuster and a fitting end to fenix's story. I'm not saying that gears 3 is not worth getting, if you liked the other entries in the series you will no doubt like this but like I said its just missing that certain spark, the something that takes it up a notch.

By all means this is not a bad game at all. However I didn't like the multiplayer, it felt like they tried a CoD approach, and I hate CoD. Gears 1 and 2 I was addicted to those for a long time. Very much like a movie heavy on special effects and little else. In other words, all style and no substance. Pretty shallow really. And can be very boring at times. But, if you're in the mood to just check out your brain and not think - just roll, shoot and say "ohhh pretty" over and over then this is your game.

Gears of War 3 feels like a giant step back as well as a small step forward in some areas. Gameplay wise there are some invaluable new additions, they sadly proved to be pointless. The campaign feels extremely sluggish and dull, it was not executed properly at all. The story also had great promise. Cole Train returns to his hometown, sees his stadium in ruin.. Marcus finds out his father his actually alive-- Dom dies.. none of these story elements were taken seriously, it felt lifeless. A couple new characters were also thrown at you that no history behind them, they weren't very likeable either. The multiplayer section of this game lives up to expectations, more or less. The new and 'improved' horde mode is much, much better. It adds an engulfing amount of depth into the map. You can build different types of defenses and offenses, the boss battles are also very challenging. The new beast mode is also surprisingly fun as well, different playable 'beasts' had a number of strengths and weaknesses. Within the other half of multiplayer, player vs player.. nothing really changed. Of course you still have your new maps and all. Overall, I wish they could have been as innovative as they were with Gears 1 and 2. Expand

The multiplayer is a mixed bag. The deathmatch I don't think is much fun because it pretty much boils down to explosive weapons and shotguns. The availability of cover and dive rolls means you won't be killing anyone with your rifle weapons. However, horde and beast modes are pretty fun, and are a less aggressive multiplayer arena and should provide some good fun.

Still, this game is not at all innovative and I will probably get bored quick.

The characters from the previous 2 games return along with some new characters but I just could not get myself to care for or take any of them seriously because of their bland and annoying personalities specially the buff male characters who look like freaks of nature and mutated themselves. The campaign was fun and they have made some improvements over the gameplay but it is still very linear with its share of frustrating moments and still way to short for the wrap up of the triology but I still enjoyed it and the EXP system is really a great addition and exactly what the previous two games needed in the campaign and the new weapons are also unique and fun to use. The multiplayer is definitely much better than the one from Gears 2 they have added new modes and reworked the Horde mode and they are all really fun and much more strategic than repetitive and boring.. The online multiplayer for the campaign which allows a 4 player Co-Op is really cool however playing the campaign with offline multiplayer with a friend by your side with the awful split screen can be really frustrating. The graphics are just amazing it is nice that despite being out for so many years the 360 is still not showing its age. The game's voice acting is fine but could have been alot better and realistic. Also I still did not see that many changes in the Single player from Gears 2 this game it still feels more like it predecessors. Overall I think Epic Games took 2 steps forward and 2 steps back in my opinion don't get me wrong I still think this is a really good game but I think it is getting overpraised because as the ending of a 5 year triology it is a little disappointing. 7.5/10. Story mode falls on its face a little. With any story i feel the toughest part to nail down is a satisfying ending and gears of war 3 pulls the old "i win button" one wich is a fairly large cop out in story telling. There were some great parts of the story to play through such as defending anvil gate but its a bit short and some of the plot is a bit daft.

I give the game 7 out of 10 based largely on multiplayer, the story itself has good characters and not alot else and seeing as its haf the game its underpreforming brings the overall score down for me.
