    I once WAS a hardcore gears of war fan and gears2 has changed all that. The single player is bigger but not much better, more of the same to be honest. Which isn't all that bad i suppose. The multiplayer is where gears 2 just completely falls apart. Some may argue that the new additions like chainsaw duels, the new game modes the new weapons make gears2 multiplayer better than the I once WAS a hardcore gears of war fan and gears2 has changed all that. First the matchmaking is a disaster you spend more time trying to find players to play with, than actually playing the game.Then after you finally get to play and the match is over you must repeat this process again. This also removes any rivalries or personal battles between players you used to find in gears1. I could write a novel on how bad the multiplayer is but I'm not wasting any more of my time with this game. Basically if you loved how gears1played you will not like gears 2 (no matter how much you try to), it is a shadow of its former self, frustrating for all the wrong reasons.     This is a great game. The online play is one of the best for the xbox 360. The co-op is not the best. People don't play that as often so the chances of finding a room for a particular level are slim. The game it self doesn't flow as well as the first for both the. Online and the campaine

    Certainly a quality game (only a fool would doubt that it's well-made), but my score of zero is due to the fact that I, for one, simply don't find any enjoyment in the gameplay of this title.
    Perhaps that's not quite fair, and I probably wouldn't even write this were it not so popular, but I suppose I just want to add my two cents.

    What the hell happenend to the multiplayer?? :( The horrible slow matchmaking totally ruins the multiplayer experience from the start. You have to wait minutes which feel like days to even start a match. Searching and connecting with teammates. Searching and connecting with enemy team. And you also have to wait 20 seconds when the match has finished! :( What is that all about? But wait there's a lot more bad news...
    It is impossible to have exiting sniper battles anymore. The new maps with its structures and weapon placements don't allow you anymore of that. The few headshots you get when you are lucky sound like water splashing :( And the weapons sound horrible and weak as well, especially the sounds from the sniper and the shotgun. And don't get me started about how they nutered the shotgun which has become the weakest weapon of all. Headshots up close with the shotgun are impossible now :( Only if you get very lucky. And the chainsaw has become even stronger which is lame. Talk about out of balance :(
    And if you thought fragtagging was annoying. Now smokegrenades push you on the ground and stun you for a couple of seconds. This totally ruins the fast pace of the great original gears of war. And you can walltag all grenades too. So they go off when you get too close. This is horrible when you have a sudden death. Everybody is to scared to go look for eachother because a frag grenade tagged to a wall can be just around the corner. When you hear a sound, it is too late and you're dead. Also, you still have to wait up to 14 seconds to get spawned again if the game mode allow that. There are still only two places you spawn from. Is it so hard to create random spawn points where there are no enemies? Why can't you change all the starting weapons? I want to start off with sniper and/or boomshot for example. And I want to drop in and out a game just like gears 1. Where is the freedom? Where is the choice? I give 1 point for the single player which actually is pretty good..for one or two times.
    Conclusion: This is only worth a rental for the single player. I love gears 1, I hate gears 2. Spend your money on left 4 dead if you want an intense multiplayer. Hell, even call of duty games, bad company and halo 3 are much better then this mess! Do not buy this crap, you will be dissapointed beyond believe!    … Expand

    I liked: - New battles with old enemies (brumarks, but specially reavers were fun to fight, their appearances gave a great movie-like feeling to the action) - That fish boss was extremely cool (altough somewhat easy to kill) - Miniguns...it gave a great feeling of FIREPOWER. - That level inside the worm, it was organic and all. Weird that the worm had lungs    SPOILERS, I guess...

    I liked:

    A great game. It's far from the best, with its sudden deaths (i.e. if you stand in one place for half of a second too long, you will die without warning) and terrible group of players on it (but that's not the game's fault, that's the fault of LIVE).     Gears of War 2 is a fantastic game, with an epic campaign, incredible Horde co-op experience, and improved multiplayer; all in a package that promises to keep players entertained for dozens, if not hundreds of hours. Several issues keep the game from being all it could be, but it remains a worthy addition to any 360 owner's library.

    I'm not so sure if it tops the first one, maybe they're neck and neck, but it doesn't matter because it is fun. Everything that got your dick hard in the first game is back.

    Improved multiplayer and visuals definently get a thumbs up from me. However the campaign is shorter and the story is far too recycled from the previous game, Ends exactly the same as well.

I remember enjoying the first game very much, but after playing it often I eventually got bored of it and its flaws that were evident to me after the countless hours I had played it. I felt as though Gears of War had potential and I generally liked the idea of a second game.
    In my opinion, all that anyone could have asked of Gears of War 2 was that it continues where it left off and improves upon itself.     Despite somewhat repetitve gameplay, multiplayer imbalance and other flaws, overall game is good. The game idea itself is really good. I'm really looking forward to Gears of War 3 and hope it will be better in terms of polish, stability and balance.

    Clearly, a lot of money was spent on Gears of War 2. The production values are through the roof. Most everything is well made. Sadly, the core narrative - the thing the developers spent a great deal of time talking up - is essentially garbage, and the reverence the game expects us to show its melodrama proves a constant irritant. Go in with measured expectations.

There is just something about being in a large scale assault against flesh eating monsters with guns that brings out your need to kill in gruesome ways. The 8-10 hour long campaign never gives you time breathe as you shoot, explode, and saw your way through the Locust stronghold. From the very moment you're training the rook to the end game battle with the Lambent Brumak, the game is very rewarding. A rich story that doesn't interfere with the carnage, the optional gore and language filters that ensure even younger gamers can enjoy the game, and top it off with a variety of challenging enemies, the game is nearly perfect. However, the AI is quite stupid sometimes. A few times, as I was dying, my stupid AI partner, Dom, walked past me ten times at least, and never revived me, as was intended. Nevertheless, don't let that change the perspective of the game. This game is very good, and I recommend it to anyone who loves shooters and action games.… Expand

    Awesome action, new guns, better graphics, Brumak rodeo, more enemies. This is what every fan or lover of shooter games was expecting. But talking about animations (not the CGs), they could be more natural and less robotic, and your character could carry that Mulcher you were carrying in that scene, and not the Lancer...Just making my point.

    This game had great ideas such as horde, meat shield, guardian, etc. the maps were good the weapons were good. The bad thing is the servers, if this game had better servers, it would no doubt be at least an 8.

    This is one of the most visually impressive games on xbox that just isn't fun to play. High production value and all but I just didn't find it entertaining at all. Gears of War 1 was a better pick up. I'm actually playing through it now and they really did some of the strategy of fighting better as well as story.

    A quite good 3rd person shooter game with a little bit over average story-telling and voice acting. The game is fun to play on insanity with co-op. I don't want to overrate this game, it is a solid 7, but I do think this game is unique out there and can be addictive.

    Horde being the only thing to save it.

    Some great ideas, as always from Epic, but no finesse.

    This is a sequel that every Gears fan should play from start to finish! The campaign is great, especially with co-op and the MP is fun! Gears of War 2, in my opinion, is the best in the series!

    A wonderful followup to an already great game. The campaign is still awesome and draws me in every time. They added Horde which allows you to fight against wave after wave of Locust infantry alone or with 4 of your bro's. Multiplayer is once again not user friendly, but is very enjoyable. Gears 2 is worth your money and will bring you a great many hours of fun.

    This is the game that started it all when it comes to horde mode. My friends and I spent countless hours playing it, seeing how long we could last. It was also innovative with its huge set pieces and interesting story. Everything was better than the first and set up a near-perfect series finale.

    This is a worthy sequel to a great game. The single player has more action and explosions, though the story is still about a bunch of space marines being badasses. Who cares? The point is to shoot stuff, and in that approach, it's a great experience that has tight controls and rewarding combat.

Some bugs are still appearing but that doesn't hinder the fact that it is one of the bext games out on Xbox 360. Multiplayer is enhanced although needs ironing out in places.     Concerning the gameplay the TPS formula is better executed and the game will offer a great variety of situations so that you'll never fall in some routine. The cinematic realisation is also a great "Waho" factor that will rhythm your playthrough in the most positive way.     The story is way more detailed than in the first game which is very good, I finally care about Marcus and the gang they stopped being just random badasses (for the most part), the global story is also more incentive and now I do care about winning the fight against the locust, and also I want to have the answers to some questions raised by this opus. The game is still predictable but still huge improvement in this section. Shamefully the campaign is still way too short (5-6 hours) and it's not with the very rare online activity that you will find today that you may prolonged the experience.

    Although Gears 1 created the universe of the series, it didn't do much to produce a substantial lore and background info. It was Gears 2 to delve into the background of the in-game universe, which I think it did well. There is a deeper and more credible writing of both plot facts and background and characters. It's not only because of better characterization and writing of characters and dialogues. Stuff like Private Carmine's first day on the battlefield, Dom's desperate search for his wife Maria, the "way" locusts sink human cities and "how" Marcus and his squad will fix that, give dynamism and turning points to the plot, making it a daring round trip ride with a epic breath, which Gears 1 was not. I guess wanting to avoid a plot overload and making a later chapter explain stuff, some questions are purposely left unanswered, which I found a bit irritating but it makes sense, as long as the answers will be there and will be credible.

    Gameplay was improved and expanded. Characters movement is still clunky, yet smoother than in Gears 1.The cover system has also been refined and smoothed. What used to be design naivety in Gears 1, the Crimson Omen as player health status and the grenade launch system, have been transformed in Gears series hallmarks. More weapons, more enemies, and generally quantity goes hand in hand with quality. The meat shield mechanic is an interesting addition varying gameplay although less often than usual as killing downed enemies is priority. Like Gears 1, the game is violent, with a high gore rate and a wider range of executions on downed enemies adds up to fun. Enemy AI is still good, however it looks less aggressive than before: I've rarely seen locust drones launching fierce assaults, flanking and force to dislodge from cover. Only some enemies do that, like the Bloodmounts, but they are designed like that. The gameplay still ensures very engaging shootouts and level design is great and improved for the most part. Sometimes the player can still choose different paths for reaching the level objectives. Squad orders have been removed as in fact they were of little use. Squad mates now crawl towards the player character to be revived after being downed and can revive each other on their own - a huge improvement. Checkpoints placement is better than it was in Gears 1, for the most part and a "Normal" intermediate skill level has finally been added. In general, the game is more enjoyable. Too bad the final boss isn't much of a challenge, but it's still better than dealing with RAAM in Gears 1.

    And now the bad. Despite difficulty re-balancing and better checkpoints placement, many checkpoints are still misplaced out of badly design, making the player repeat boring parts after reload. Some parts remain too difficult because of poor design. Difficulty discrepancies are more negative than positive: the player cannot be downed and revived in "Hardcore" or "Insane" skill levels, and on the latter squad mates must be revived in time if downed or they will die and cause a game over. A more harmonized and less punitive system would have been better. Allied AI does not behave properly: sometimes it goes forward alone and gets downed, or it stays behind and does not help. Sometimes it just gets stuck for no reason. The game is actually more buggy than I expected, not to the point of game breaking, but I expected more polishing from a 2008 flagship exclusive AAA title. Sometimes I wonder if Bleszinski played the whole game before release and I don't know what's worse: he did not or he did but he was ok with this stuff.

    Graphically, the game is much better compared to Gears 1. A deeper understanding of Unreal Engine 3 allowed improvements to almost everything: characters, weapons and scenery objects models, besides environments visuals and facial animations. At the time, simply outstanding. It was certainly one of the best graphics back in 2008, probably the best on an Xbox 360 video game and still holds up as a very good looking game to this days. Frame rate performance is pretty solid. The sound component is great too and keeps up with the visuals.

    Gears of War 2 is a great sequel. An good comparison in matter of great sequels could be made with Uncharted 2. It may not have made the history of video games like Gears 1, but, while without flaws, it largely improved it and it remains a milestone of the genre and one of the most important video games of that time, symbol of such a golden age.    … Expand

    Gears 2 accomplishes what a true sequel should. More guns, more characters, best story in the series, better graphics and better gameplay, though Gears 3 steals the crown in that department. One of the best 360 games on the market, and one of the best games of 2008.

I bought it when it was on a digital sale six months after playing the first GoW game. At first, I felt like the campaign was the same old thing but it quickly got better. On top of the epic campaign is the multiplayer which is just as good as last time, but again not the reason to buy this game. GoW2 features an all-new co-op mode (it was all-new, I mean), which adds to the fun! I'd give GoW an 8.0/10 and I'd give this great sequel an 8.5/10. And one last comment: the story is better this time around, with more reason to care about the characters.… Expand

I will always love Gears of war for being Gears of war .     I have just recently completed Gears of War, the first one and my goal is to play all of the Gears of War franchise. This is just the 2nd one and I will keep continuing to play them all. Gears of War 2 feels like a much better game than the original. It also feels much easier, it seems like they knocked down the difficulty settings quite a bit. Personally I kind of liked it though becauseI have just recently completed Gears of War, the first one and my goal is to play all of the Gears of War franchise. Personally I kind of liked it though because it allowed me to play the game as a little bit more of a run and gun rather than the cover shooter that its suppose to be.

    I enjoy a fun shooter campaign and the Gears franchise seems to be a well-made shooter campaign. I am having a fantastic time with the franchise. As I’m playing these games, I can’t help but appreciate what Gears have done for the Genre. Who knows without Gears, there may not have been Uncharted or if there was. It may not have been as good.

    The game itself has aged very well. The shooting works great, honestly, for an Xbox 360 game, I was impressed with how it looked. Sure its a dark and grimy game but it still looks good. I thought the first Gears game aged well and I think this game is even better. The Gears can be picked up for cheap and I highly recommend it.    … Expand

    One of the best games on 360. Probably one of the main reasons I bought the console. The story is amazing, the visuals look beautiful to this day, the gameplay is addicting. Probably the best Gears game to date.

    Gears of War 2 took everything that made the first game good and improved on it in almost every way, but there is some caveats to be shown that hold it back from greatness. The first improvement is a better campaign with a story that is far better told even though it doesn't answer questions that I think it should explain in order to not have books and comics fill those gaps. The emotional moment of Dominic and his wife Maria is still one of the most powerful moments in the series and I do generally love (and cry) when he shoots her out of mercy. The moment to moment events (like the giant worm to the razorhail rain) are improved to provide variety and challenge that isn't complex, but still interesting that it's more grounded than say Uncharted with the way it uses puzzles. The new enemies on top of old and the addition of new executions make the experience far better than previously and it feels so good to decapitate a Locust grunt still with the Torque Bow.

    The multiplayer improves initially but then becomes almost disastrous after the last patches went in. It uses the same setup of modes and mechanics like the campaign (just with a choice now to equip one of the two main assault rifles). The game uses P2P but the connection (prior to the major patches) were stable and better than the first game. Unfortunately, just like the first game did, the major sweep of patches over certain guns not only change the multiplayer, but also the entire experience in every other avenue of the game. It becomes very inconsistent and the toxic nature of players reached a new low, turning off potential players for the series. To some, it was still the best multiplayer of the series. For me, it was no different than the first with a bigger sin of allowing bots in the matches and have absurd amounts of accuracy and network glitching that sometimes made them more powerful than decent players, ruining matches if a person lagged out or left for the bot to take their place.

    Horde mode is a cool concept but very half-baked on execution (which would be fully realized by 3). You go through 50 waves of enemies and use whatever you scavenge to survive each wave as enemies increase in numbers and modifiers. Scale that with difficulty and the need for team members to contribute becomes a main prerogative. Unfortunately, it makes enemies far too strong in later waves and can cause frustration when players wipe and come back in without the weapons they scavenge to survive.

    Despite the issues, Gears 2 still proved to be a better game to come out of Gears and it's what truly set it on the map for greatness. If the sequel could improve on it even more, than there's no doubt it will be solidified as a great game. And that is what happens for Gears of War 3.    … Expand

    Es un juego muy bueno con gráficos avanzados para esos años, el sistema de apuntado me gusta igual que los sonidos, los jefes no son gran cosa pero tampoco son malos, la historia tampoco me cautivo mucho, las mecánicas están muy bien hechas pero lo importante del juego es que es divertido y entretenido que al fin y al cabo es lo importante.
    Si te gustan los juegos de disparos lo recomiendo.

It seems that video has priority over game controller... sometimes I press the weapon trigger and it doesn't respond at ALL until the enemy has moved into my kill zone.     The level design in Gears of War 2 feels like it was made with a refreshed, more interactive and immersive formula. The campaign provides a wide variety of mission types, the majority of them with unique mechanics that will allow the player to experiment a far more enjoyable story mode with better engagement between the player and the environment around it. The characters, while still having the same super strong, alpha male attitude seen in the first game, show more emotion, making it easier to sympathize with them.

    The story is also more compelling, dramatic, and deeper, as it takes the narrative design presented in Gears of War even further. Some of the cutscenes in the game offer a better knowledge and backstory of the main characters, the enemies and their leader, and the war itself.

    Gears of War 2 should be an example to game developers of how a great sequel should be done. The higher-quality graphics, its better-polished gameplay mechanics, better level design, better writing and overall better direction are more than enough to consider this one of the best games available in the Xbox 360 catalogue.    … Expand

    Awesome game with an interesting story, very good characters and great shooting mechanics. The dark atmosphere sets the tone of the game perfectly, the boss battles are epic and the action is very good, the best game in the Gears of War series.

Neste título a história volta a me emocionar e a me deixar com mais raiva e vontade de matar cada vez mais Locusts pelo o que fizeram com Dom, antes fosse só este motivo, os Locust são inimigos realmente desprezíveis e que não dão paz ao jogador, do começo ao fim do game eles tentam incansavelmente frustrar o plano dos Gears e mata-los, mas no final a gente sabe quem ganha... o jogo trouxe novas conquistas e com certeza bem mais interessantes que as presentes no primeiro jogo da franquia, dando assim não só mais objetivos extras ao jogador, como pontuação na XBOX LIVE, Gears Of War 2 trouxe novas armas, veículos, imimigos, personagens, ambientes e claro, uma história!     The sequel of Marcus Fenix and delta squad's journey is amazing in everything. A crazy and violent game that brings us to the heart of the enemy, the home of the Locust Horde, and it has some of the most epic scenes and moments of the franchise, a **** must have.

    Gears of War 2 es un juego obligado para los usuarios de un Xbox 360 o un Xbox one, gráficamente el juego a día de hoy se ve bastante decente aunque aveces hay fallos en las texturas y pueden tardar unos segundos en cargar pero cuando estas cargan se ven realmente espectacular teniendo en cuenta que este juego fue lanzado en el 2008, la campaña es muy buena de hecho creo que es la mejor deGears of War 2 es un juego obligado para los usuarios de un Xbox 360 o un Xbox one, gráficamente el juego a día de hoy se ve bastante decente aunque aveces hay fallos en las texturas y pueden tardar unos segundos en cargar pero cuando estas cargan se ven realmente espectacular teniendo en cuenta que este juego fue lanzado en el 2008, la campaña es muy buena de hecho creo que es la mejor de la saga, es muy divertida y mejora si la jugamos en el modo cooperativo o pantalla dividida con amigos, tenemos alrededor de 8 o 9 horas de campaña, el modo multijugador es la parte fuerte del juego siempre lo ha sido y en esta entrega se incluyo el emblemático hora un modo de juego en el cual te enfrentaras a oleadas de enemigos hasta llegar a la ronda 50 la experiencia mejora si jugamos acompañados de amigos, la banda sonora es muy buena y el doblaje latino es un espectáculo con grandes voces como Sebastián Llapur, algo malo del juego es la mala inteligencia artificial de los personajes muchas veces serán derribados torpemente o por culpa de ellos varias veces terminaras repitiendo misiones por errores de ellos, los personajes son carismáticos y en alguno de comentarios de estos te hará gracia pero sin llegar a ser tedioso, los tiroteos son el punto fuerte de toda la franquicia llegando a la perfección con eso los tiroteos son divertidisimos y son lo mejor de la franquicia. en definitiva Gears of War 2 es una experiencia divertidisima y que deberias jugar es uno de los mejores shoters de todos los tiempos y en definitiva uno de los mejores juegos de su tipo… Expand

    Gears Of War 2 is just an awesome video game, and the best shooter around. The storyline is pretty mean, and the suicide by Tai really added to the effect of how badly they were torturing people.
    Is amazing. Great buy. Masterpiece. Excellent game, honestly.

    Gears of war 2 for it's time amazing very enjoyable to play. I love the Story and the gameplay. Highly recommend! You can get this game on the cheap now, it's a absolute steal for the price. I decided to go back and enjoy it again on my Series X which led me to finally giving it a review.

    There are very few ways that Gears of War 2 could be improved on. Only the story and the final boss in particular are a slight disappointment. Fanboys will love the fact that only one of a multitude of story arcs is concluded; everyone else will feel slightly unfulfilled. But aside from this, Gears 2 is not just the most exhilarating game you'll play this year, but possibly the most heady and downright shocking piece of entertainment full stop. With some awesome level design, supported by unsurpassed visuals and relentlessly entertaining action it is a compelling experience from start to finish.
