I am disgusted by the things I see written by users on this site. Everyone feels the need to compare this game to Fallout 3, when a better comparison would be to compare it to the first two games of this juggernaut franchise. Everyone feels the need to compare this game to Fallout 3, when a better comparison would be to compare it to the first two games of this juggernaut franchise. Scoring a game low simply because it was developed on a broken engine that is a updated version of another engine that is nearly 10 years old is absolutely ludicrous. Games have bugs. Period. No one scored Modern Warfare 2 ridiculously low when it was released even though people could fly across the map and stab you, or because people could use infinite care packages to gain the upper hand. To top it all off, that game was released by the evil empire of the industry, Activision, who are notorious at allowing buggy games through, with no intention of fixing them. Instead people reserve their hatred for one of the smaller "big" companies in the industry, because fanboys seem to dominate this rather elite "thing of ours." So let's look at the facts shall we... Fallout 3 was released in 2008 with almost all of the same glitches and bugs present in FO:NV. And they all got fixed. The problem isn't the game, it is the engine. A weak engine allows bugs to slip through. At least Bethesda gave us another game while we waited for the id Tech 5 engine to be tweaked for the eventual development and release of Fallout 4. So rather than becoming so tied up with graphics, bugs that will take mere months to correct, or any other petty crap that childish fanboys can dream up, lets look at the real meat and potatoes...the game itself. Fallout 3 was good. Fallout: New Vegas is a masterpiece. In Fallout 3 we were treated with a beautifully horrific wonderland to explore, but we got that at the expense of the story. Fallout: NV returns us to the original world of Fallout by bringing in the storytellers of the first two arcs. In New Vegas I have met characters that I actually care about. Like Heck Gunderson, who has lost his son and wants nothing more than to find him. Or Chief Hanlon, a NCR Ranger who is a masterful storyteller in his own right. Even the evil and absolutely terrifying Legate Lanius, a monster, but a monster you care about. These people, and the day-to-day struggle for survival they are embroiled in, create a storyline that rivals some of the most story driven games on the market today. But even storylines aren't everything, and in this respect FO:NV shines as well. From a re-imagined leveling system to the crafting of healing items and ammo, this games allows for a player's creativity to take them through the adventure, and not the game's development and design. Even the difficulty of the game has been improved with harder enemies and the all-new Hardcore Mode...a first for the industry. Hardcore Mode in itself creates a completely different game for players to experience. Even if a person wants to attack the tech side of this game, I would simply retort with a bevy of moments that this game severely outshines it's predecessor. Like when you walk up over a hill and are greeted with the first sight of New Vegas shining across a nighttime wasteland. Or when you watch the sunset from deep inside the canyons of the Colorado River. Or when you first lay your eyes upon the monstrosity of the Hoover Dam. Or even when you first walk into the slums of Freeside and you hear the low murmur of partying, gambling, and the inhabitants of yet another slum. As a designer myself I want to point your attention to a fellow designer, one of the minds behind the amazing Gears Of War games, Cliff Blezinski..."Games are created by humans, and no human is infallible. Bugs get through, but they can be fixed. What counts at the end of the day is whether or not the game in itself is good. Remember there is always a patch, but there isn't a patch for a bad game." So rather than trying to burn a wonderful world and it developers and designers, grow up and see what is really there. While this game isn't perfect (and no game you ever play will be), it is more deserving than most. A solid 9 out of 10. Expand

Their are many factions (some petty, some not so much), and all your choices impact your relationship with them. While still being extremely fun, the game manages to have a downside. I guess a consequence of having so much stuff in your game is that numerous bugs and glitches will be present. And their are many. Most are more annoying than game breaking, but it still sucks when your half way through a quest and the game freezes or you find out you can't go through a certain door because you completed a certain quest a certain way (and yes, their is a glitch like that). But all in all, this game is fun. The locations, people, guns, and heck, even the enemies are cool. Expand

If you just load up the game and start playing it, you won't see immediately obvious differences from 3. Basically all this means is that the graphics haven't changed dramatically. But just about everything else has. The item creation system is great, you can mod weapons, there are separate martial arts moves, special attributes have more direct effects on your game play experience etc. In hardcore mode, many more items in the game have some importance as you have to eat, sleep and stay hydrated. They tweaked armor and combat to be more fun. The only real downside I saw to this game was that the story didn't seem as profound to me as the first one. It's basically about a bunch of known or predictable factions fighting over ownership of a dam, just in the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world. There are a couple of sci-fi style plot twists but nothing really unpredictable. This game seems more sandbox than 3.

Great game. There's so much to do, i've been distracted since i got it, the day it was released, i haven't even beaten it. and it's massive, but not... to be blunt, ridiculously massive, like Fallout 3. It's everything Fallout 3 should have been. A graphics improvement is the only bad thing i can possibly think of, in terms of faults.

The Wasteland is so chock full of content and detailed locations that you can easily lose 100 hours playing.

Now, I'll go to the bad part. One autosave could deter forgetful players or general idiots. I myself have over 80 saves logged out of sheer habit, because the game crashes rather often, especially after prolonged periods of playing.

Next, Bethesda has pulled a classic slip. SO MANY BUGS! Ugh. My autosave corrupts ANY TIME I try to enter The Strip. It's so obnoxious. There are small things and big things that will just downright piss you off, but the game is so good I forgave it every time. True fans of Fallout, I ask you to do the same.

I found these flaws annoying, at first, but the bottom line came to be that New Vegas is simply, utterly addictive. There is a LOT more combat in New Vegas than in Fallout 3, and you will level much faster. Quests are quicker to complete and you have a lot of choices with where you want to take the main quest line. The world is smaller than Fallout 3, but with seemingly just as many locations. You will do far less roaming through the vast emptiness of the wasteland and far more interacting with NPCs, fighting enemies, looting abandoned gas stations and shacks and stumbling upon intriguing caves, buildings and settlements. The world of New Vegas is also significantly more populated than the Fallout 3 world, giving the game a much more interactive feel. The Reputation system, back from Fallout 2, makes a lot more sense than the karma system (even though it still exists). Essentially, New Vegas packed Fallout 3 into a smaller world, with more enemies, NPCs, quests, factions, weapons and locations. Unlike Fallout, where it could easily take hours to complete a quest or level up, you can churn out several quests and level at will in New Vegas. This makes for a very satisfying gaming experience, even though the game content could have spent another 4-6 months in development. Expand

Most peopleseem to have different stories to mine but after 42 hours of gameplay fallout has yet agian captured my heart and imagination. Fallout 3 in my opinion was a better game due to a larger world, more quests and generally more populated environment.I'll start with the bad points; some of the quests are very dull and long, they aren't very exciting at some points but in contrast some are fun, interesting and replayable. Another poor mention is no sprint button and being 'overcucumbered' at very annoying times, this can lead to frustration and boredom. Also unlike fallout 3 some of the quests are very obscure and this causes people to use the wiki for almost everything which can ruin the story, remember to use it in moderation. And the final bad thing is probably, the wasteland can get very lonely and unless you have online so you can talk to your friends, it can get boring and like me i abandoned it for a while and couldn't get back into the story etc so i had to start again. The good things are the combat has been improved marginally with the inclusion of ironsights and guns feel heaftier and more accurate. Another thing is the huge amount of things to do if you can find them, there are mini objectives such as finding all the snowglobes, mini nukes etc, this for me was very fun and helped me expore the world in full, i probably would never have found some of the locations Also you may feel compelled by a longer and stronger storyline this time round with the main aim at the end obviously Vegas. Some momens of pure brilliance occur in the game and suprisingly obsidian really did deliver a very Fallouty sort of game, the sub developers really did capture the magic of the Fallout universe. The vast open wasteland filled with hundreds of quests, NPC's, ridiculous weapons and crazy wildlife is not only genius but significantly important in lasting appeal. The game has plenty for you to keep coming back to and with the addition of DLC the abundance of Fallout fun gets even bigger. You will never get tired of walking the watsteland and discovering abandoned homes and facilities, caves and canyons or even populated communities with each individual to their own story. The game has an extremely annoying tendency to freeze on loading screens, forcing you to restart and lose progress (save often) and there are many game-breaking bugs just waiting to be found. The role the character takes in New Vegas feels much more significant, and complicated. Graphics still suffer from bugging issues, though this could be Bethesda's slogan already. The music and ambiance is a copy from 3, which is a very good thing. Weapon complexity and mechanics are vastly improved, from scopes that actually shoot where you point, to modifiable weapons and ammo. The shooter aspect of Vegas is much improved over three and makes for much more rewarding running and gunning. The dense nature of the world, compared fallout 3, is less rewarding on the exploration side, as you can get in A LOT of trouble early on in the game. Exploring comes with the much larger amount of missions. This makes the game feel more structured and restricted than Fallout 3, which for this type of game, is a minus for me. Overall, still an excellent, much longer experience than Fallout 3 that feels highly rewarding, though not without it's faults. BUGS! Expand

Also, if you're thinking of buying the game, it's in your advantage to pay the extra money and buy the "Ultimate Edition" with the DLCs and Gun Runner's Arsenal. Fallout: New Vegas was, for the most part, a great game. One of my favorites. The only problems I had with this game, is how long the loading screens lasted when going through doors, or fast travelling. Other than that, the story line was stellar, and very enjoyable.

One of my favourite games. Despite all it's problems, the sheer enjoyment that I got (and continue to have) from this game score it a 9/10.
Obviously it loses a point because of the countless errors that can be stumbled upon, but I don't judge a game based on that. I judge games on how much I liked them.

this was a fantastic change for me i can,t say the same thing for everyone though but if you do find this game getting a bit to hard for you there,s always the option to lower the difficulty setting
hardcore mode is another thing you can turn on for a more immersive experience in this mode you gotta manage your characters hunger thirst and sleep ammunition takes up carry weight and healing items take time to take effect combined with the very hard difficulty setting you got a really challenging game
however one complaint i do have is that i feel like the ammunition for energy weapons are to heavy to use for hardcore mode in terms of practicality
in turns of graphics theirs not much to talk about since this game uses the same game engine as fallout 3 with the same quality graphics while it,s not much off a problem for me it,s worth noting none the less
their are quite a few new weapons and armor to use in this game along with some weapons and armor that where also in fallout 3
more ways to repair your armor and weapons now with the introduction of the weapon repair kit you can earn these as quest rewards in game and you can also craft them from commonly found materials however you can,t repair your armor with them and theirs no armor version of one the only way you can repair your armor is either paying an npc to do it for you which is very expensive or find the same version of the armor and repair your armor using that piece of armor as spear parts if you get the jury rigging perk though this is much easier to manage
combat for the most part is the same as it was in fallout 3
the story was fascinating and overall i found it was an improvement to fallout 3 great story
skills other then speech do matter more in this game then fallout 3 when talking to npcs though dialog speech still is a big part of it though
now i talk about the down sides
unfortunately i found this game crashed more often then fallout 3 did i had 10+ crashes during my play through so make sure to save your progress regularly theirs also more bugs and glitches then i expected to see as well certainly more bugs in this game then in fallout 3 its only because of these problems that i just could not give this game a 10 out of 10 rating but regardless still a fantastic game go pick it up

I do not like the endings not so much from a writing perspective, but much because you cannot continue you on where Broken Steel did if so clumsily. Add to that the faction system and your map is now segmented into territories where you feel like a true loner and outcast to everyone. As a teen playing this and coming off of the outstanding breadth of Fallout's 3 content I was very disappointed. As an adult with a more critical eye to the gaming world I love, I have a new outlook of Fallout New Vegas; it's pretty fantastic.

Fallout New Vegas really tests your abilities constantly and the decisions you make in the game can actually have a more powerful effect on the overall story than 3 could ever hope. If you like stories and writing in games and you had to choose between Fallout 3 or New Vegas, then New Vegas would be picked near instantly for me. What 3 does better I think is exploration, but that's not to say New Vegas lacks this: there is alot to explore and find in New Vegas, it's just the feel and freedom of 3 made it more adventurous.

The expansions (as I score this based on the game and all expansions together) are very good to even amazing. There really is a quality in writing that makes the characters in those expansions so memorable and interesting. Really, the expansions can easily rival 3's and even surpass them in some areas (such as Dead Money to Operation Anchorage). If you love Fallout 3, you should play New Vegas if you haven't despite it being almost 7 years old. It's a game that can really up the ante on survival and deliver good moments that gamers can feel awesome for.

Fallout New Vegas, set in the Mojave wastes is a game that both improves and builds upon what Bethesda did with Fallout 3, and while it's still held back by technical limitations and time constraints, New Vegas is nothing short of a masterpiece. Obsidians work here is amazing, there are so many moving parts all working in tandem to create a world that feels far more alive than Washington, or even the Commonwealth or Virginia in its successors. It's truly something that needs to be experienced first hand to truly understand.

The main factions in the game consist of The New California Republic, Caesars Legion and Mr. House, all of which feel fleshed out and real. The NCR are the closest thing in the wasteland to an old world government, trying to bring everybody together to create a new world like the old one, however they're struggling, they're spread too thin and can't keep the peace, many people in the Mojave don't agree with their tax laws and government, but maybe you could turn that around, or if taxes aren't your thing, there's always Caesars Legion, a Neo Roman empire built off the ideals of Rome, they want to unite the wasteland under a single banner, to become one, no matter how many people they have to butcher, crucify, enslave or torture to get there. They're inarguably the most "evil" faction, but if you like 300, and crucifixion, do I have a faction for you! Thirdly is House, definitely the smartest of all the faction leaders, smart enough to make his army out of subservient robots rather than people, and smart enough that he's the only one with a real plan, but his plan only includes the New Vegas Strip, the rest of the wasteland is left to fend for itself while House builds his personal empire. Finally there's... You, the final faction is you, and a very nice Robot called Yes Man, together you can help free the Mojave of the NCR, the Legion and House, creating an independent wasteland.

The reason I've spent so long describing each faction, is because this is where I feel New Vegas shines the brightest, each faction is painted in varying degrees of grey, nobody is necessarily good, it's all about who's the least bad, which is a question still generating discussion even today, nearly 11 years later. In short, this is why I think Fallout New Vegas is such a special game, the only reason I haven't scored it a straight 10, is because... well it's kinda broken beyond belief.

See Obsidian weren't exactly given all the time in the world to create New Vegas, so while I still believe it's a masterpiece, it's very much an unpolished masterpiece. Enemies warping through the floor, body parts disappearing, entire questlines bugging out and becoming unfinishable, all here and accounted for, I sure hope you like spending over 20 hours one game only for your desired Faction to randomly become inaccessible because an essential NPC refuses to talk to you, because that's happened to me, and it's not fun. This is something that can be fixed on PC with mods, but unfortunately for us console peasants, these are potentially game breaking, and because of that I can only ever recommend you play Fallout New Vegas on PC, the Console experience is just too unstable.

Overall, New Vegas is a masterclass of the RPG genre, it's the best Fallout post-Bethesda buyout and likely will be forever, a game I can go back to endlessly and talk about even more.

The stories are very thought inspiring. You cannot just solve every mission with gunfire and not expect consequences. I've read some other reviews that complain " Oh no this mission destroyed anothers mission". Or "I can't kill anyone without pissing someone off". Well no kidding! Far as I can tell wouldn't that be life? And aren't rpgs supposed to be based on life? This is the first game I've played (and I've played many rpgs) that attempts to hold you accountable for your choices. Yes some missions do destroy others. But I'ts to make you think. I've experienced very little on the bugs. Nothing that seemed any worse then Oblivion or Fallout 3. If your not familiar, just some odd behavior in the graphics. My system hasn't locked up or anything. Although after about 12 hours+ of gameplay, it has really heated up and take a while to load. The companions that you can get are for more in depth then Fallout 3. Each has their own story and mission, although it may take some time to get the mission. I really like that there is a lot more to do with scrap items and plants in this game. I was hoping there was going to be some naturtal survivall tekniques in this. You can also breakdown ammo for use to make other ammo. I also like that with workbenches and some skills and attributes you need a required amount of a given skill, or it just won't work. Oh little tip, money and really good items are VERY hard to come by. Gamble (Ruellette) but save after each spin. Time consuming but worth it. So for in depth stories, action, faction interaction and making it really hard to survive I give this game a 10. But for Oblivion graphics bug I got ta knok off 2 points. C'mon Bethesda, youv'e had these issues since Oblivion. You can't fix them? Also note to parents! I wouldn't get this for childeren. It's very violent and gory, full of language, and not on the esrb rating what I would say to be partial nudity. For adult players... Get it now!! Expand

You are now free to explore Fallout 3 Vegas style with more than a little of a western touch. Forget about stockpiles bunches of gear and be ready to live conveniently from your own pocket as well. With the improved gunplay(different types of ammo, resistances to damage from types of armor) this game may suit a larger audience than the first. I even got a sense that Obsidian was catering to a generation of shooter lovers fans(make no mistake this is completely different than COD) by amping the excitement and pace of how you shoot and use guns.

All in all, Fallout: New Vegas is the same old, but is absolutely necessary for fans of the series; especially in regards to the competition it has with other RPG's on the market.

It's a sentiment that has perforated the gaming industry over the last decade, and it is perhaps more applicable today than it has ever been before. Fallout New Vegas is no different; Obsidian release a game with countless bugs, opting to throw out quick fixes after release. It's sad because without these bugs, Fallout New Vegas could have quite easily been one of the most hard hitting RPGs of the year and would have easily lived up to its name sake. With them however it is diminished and feels like a great novel released with smudged words and spelling mistakes. Luckily for us Obsidian have been more than forthcoming with the fixes and the game is well on its way to being the stable title that it should have been from the outset, especially when you consider that the engine is nearly a decade old.

New Vegas has been a controversial title to say the least. Widely praised for raising the bar over Fallout 3 when it comes to story, dialogue and voice acting, Fallout New Vegas is clearly the sequel to Fallout 1 and 2 that a lot of fans have been waiting for. The phrase, "it's the game Fallout 3 should have been," is a familiar one at this stage. Things are far more visceral in New Vegas, but whilst the serious tone introduced with 3 is still prominent in the title, New Vegas reintroduces some of the madness that made Fallout 1 and 2 so awesome.

On the other hand very little has changed outside of the strength of the story. Combat is still the same. The graphics are still the same. The world itself will be very familiar to the millions of gamers that played Fallout 3, which will explain why Obsidian didn't feel it needed to spend a great deal of time reintroducing the wasteland. And if you appreciated the hand holding that was provided by the Achievement System in 3, you'll be at a loss in New Vegas, where side quests are discovered not through pointers but largely through exploration and discovery, meaning that fans of a more linear experience will probably find the game quite intimidating.

And that's what made Fallout New Vegas such an amazing title in my mind. As opposed to faking complexity but delivering linearity - ala Fallout 3 - New Vegas is quite an in-depth and complicated game. It tries to strike a balanced between the largely inaccessible and complex nature of the RPGs of old, and the more guided and user friendly nature of today's Action games. In some regards it doesn't quite hit the mark and does at times feel a little contrived, Obsidian largely succeed in this objective and deliver what is probably the most traditional RPG experience in the last 5 years.

Fallout New Vegas - much like Fallout 3 is an acquired taste, and if you're looking for an accessible, easy to play and relaxing game this probably isn't your cup of tea. On top of that players looking for an evolution on Fallout 3 are also going to be mildly disappointed as - outside of the obvious improvements - Fallout New Vegas is largely the same game.

Whilst some would argue that it didn't deserve a stand alone release, I would disagree. Fallout New Vegas has a distinctly different feel to it than the, "guy leaves vault," nature of the previous Fallout titles, and Obsidians efforts were clearly focused on bringing something new to the table, perhaps effecting a change in direction for the franchise. And whilst I certainly cannot say that it is perfect, I am someone who wholeheartedly believes that Fallout New Vegas IS the game that Fallout 3 should have been.

If Obsidian had released this title 2 years ago, I would be giving it 9.5 out of 10. Considering this isn't 2 years ago, and factoring in the lacklustre graphics, unchanged core game play and overall familiarity of the world I can't honestly give it a score higher than 8, based on the strong story, character progression, dialogue and my overall awe at the game Obsidian has delivered.

Here's hoping that Obsidian get another crack at the Fallout Universe, perhaps even a continuation of the Couriers story in New Vegas 2.

There have been a few graphical issues, my favorite being a "mysterious floating hammer", that was actually kinda funny. But overall, I am really enjoying the game. I was really worried from reading the initial reviews, but it seems that the major show-stopping bugs have been stomped. A few aspects of the game are a little confusing, especially considering that I had invested over 100 hours in Fallout 3. Also there are some real issues with the difficulty curve. If you are just getting started, try not to walk across any open sandy areas. I've gotten my butt stomped a few times by the mutated insects here. Also, getting stung in this game has a far more deleterious effect than it did in Fallout 3. You get woozy, your display blurs, and your health drops. You need to use the anti-venom or it is real easy to die. I still have yet to play a game of "Caravan" because it seems too confusing and could not find any sort of tutorial to ease me into it. Sadly, numerous bugs and glitches hinder the gameplay at times, and although many have been patched across consoles and the PC, it's not acceptable to release a game so unpolished. Defensibly, the world is huge, and it's a massive game...but this kind of buggy release should never become a precedent in the industry. I also personally believe that the engine the game uses (a heavily modified version from "Fallout 3") is outdated, and should die a fiery death in lieu of new updated version.

Ultimately, the game is well worth the money spent on it, and whether your patrolling the wastelands for the first time or a hardened Fallout veteran...this game is badass, and I can't wait for the DLC.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I can't give this game a 10 just because of the epic bar they set with Fallout 3. However, in terms of pure bang for your buck you can't really beat the Fallout series, and Las Vegas, just like D.C., delivers. Overall, the story is fairly intersting, even though it was odd not to have the main character based out of one of the Vaults in the area.

It should be noted however that the glitches in the game can get really bad, so you should save often. There are also other little things that are very annoying like way to many load points for a game not as diverse as it's predecessor in terms of terrain. Further, it's really annoying not to be able to fast travel to any location on the Strip itself.

Overall, a very solid effort and I more than got my money's worth out of the game. I don't know what the next in the series is, but I really hope they do something more in line with the size and scope of the original Fallout 3.

Exploring the practically untouched [by the nuclear war] areas of New Vegas and the surrounding desert is great fun and absolutely packed full of interesting stories and NPCs. Every place you find has a back story and most likely an actual quest tied to it. The world of New Vegas is smaller than that of Fallout 3, but has more locations to explore and more life to it, which seems fitting due to the setting and perfectly complements the barron wastelands of Fallout 3 by offering the player a different slice of a post-apocalyptic world. The introduction of factions is very much welcomed and your alliance with each one has major implications on the world and the story, allowing for multiple play throughs with different endings. Gunplay has been tightened and now has iron sights for easier aiming. However, this does make VATS mode a little bit useless now as aiming is so much more accurate. I experienced zero bugs that affected the game in any major way (once had a flying dog, but that was just hilarious) so I was overall pleased with the quality. The music and sound effects are fitting and really flesh out the world. Companions are much improved over Fallout 3 with the companion wheel, where in you can select many different orders for your companion to carry out on the fly. The game also comes with a Survival/hardcore mode where you have to constantly eat/drink/sleep to function. This is a fantastic addition and implemented brilliantly, adding a real feeling of desperation as you scavenge through old convenience stores for some canned food and bottles of water. The levelling system is solid and has a vast number of perks for you to choose from cannibalism to be able to tame wild animals. I do realise that some people had some horrid bugs with this game (save game corruption etc) but I experienced close to zero bugs after spending a good 200 hours exploring the entire landscape and doing every mission available, so any bugs present will be variable between copies. Anyway, highly recommend for lovers of RPGs and Sandbox titles. Expand

There are more quests, more locations, more interesting things to do. I particualrly enjoy playing 'Caravan' a card game.. within the game. Yes.

The story is more engaging, though it starts to lose my interest near the end, probably because of my incessant combing of the wasteland for stuff to do, to the point of needless inventory management and tedious leveling. I'm not sure if I can fault the game for that however.

The DLC for NV is a bit of a different matter. I really only enjoyed 'Old World Blues' (At the time of this wrigting I have not played 'The Lonesome Road') The other two, 'Dead Money' and 'Honest Hearts' were... pointless really. They felt like needlessly padded sub-quests.. The initial 'oh wow this is new' wears off quickly.

I highly suggest 'Modding' this game for full enjoyment. There is a huge community of modders over at newvegasnexus with plenty of great content.

If you loved just wandering Capital Wasteland and being a badass, Fallout: New Vegas is the game for you.

As in Fallout 3, there are many minor bugs (a floating rock here or there, a radscorpion stuck with its feet in the dirt, etc.), but no game-breakers and nothing that will make you put your controller down.

You can now aim down the sights of most weapons (some unique energy guns you can't), you can repair weapons to 100% without needing a 100 repair skill, but repair now comes into play with breaking down and creating your own ammunition and arms. The Workshop table now has a more intricate tablet of items to create, compared to the simple icons from Fallout 3. HardCore mode provides more RPG elements to the whole fallout experience, making water, food and sleep much more necessary than optional at best. Unfortunately, now you can only get a perk point every other level, but the cap has been increased to 30 and each DLC provides level caps of 5 rather than the 1 in Fallout 3. the environment in the Mojave "Wasteland" is still interesting, with it's own blend of colorful characters and landscapes. The Story of this game is also strong, but doesn't really put much enthusiasm to the whole "Fallout" feel. Even with the Hardcore mode enabled, I feel i have a much easier walk in the park playing through this game than Fallout 3 normally, and that didn't have hardcore mode in the first place. I know that coincidentally Mr. House was able to salvage most of the Mojave Desert through his means of defense, but that doesn't build upon the whole idealism of a Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland if there is a organized government developing through most of the area. It just feels like Oblivion if I was thrown into a desert. Although, with it's weaknesses there comes strengths. You get to traverse through the strip, gambling, having sex with hookers, and helping Mr. House enforce his rule around the Mojave. Plants of plenty will grow around in the wasteland, allowing you to scavenge for them to keep yourself healthy from dehydration or starvation. New Vegas provides more choices with what factions you work with, depending on if you want to help Mr. House, Yes Man, the NCR or the Legion. How you feel this new wiped country should be governed depends on you. While on a combat scale, it has improved, with improved skill sets, and more to choose from, Fallout: New Vegas doesn't quite compliment a whole "Fallout" feel, it does improve much upon from the original game, at least, original on a new console. This game decides whether or not you are a tolerant and patient gamer. People who can't stand the glitches and bugs let that anger cloud their judgement of the game as a whole. It has some great improvements over Fallout 3, and there is NO way this is a step back. The glitches and bugs have over the years (through several patches) become nothing but minor details that you can be lucky to completely avoid in a playthrough. If you can enjoy a flawed game, then there is a ridiculous amount of hours to spend in this game, and a true completionist might even hit three digits of hours of playing time. No matter how you correspond with a laggy and at times really slow game, the player still might find themself shaking their head over the technical errors here and there, some of which might actually break a main quest for you, making you unable to finish the storyline the way you wanted. Then again, any real Fallout fan would know how important it is to save your game every 30 minutes of a Fallout game. When users give this game a rating of 0 because they can't look past a few techical errors and they forgot to save for two hours when they die, that doesn't make the game worthy of the lowest score possible. Fallout: New Vegas (with all the DLC included) can be bought these days for less than $20, it's worth it, believe me. Expand

Overall a great return to the fallout universe. It may not provide any innovation, and is just shy of greatness because of technical glitches and bugs, but It's great to return to the universe of fallout with a new story and cast of characters. Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best games I own. It has a beautiful wasteland full of treasure and danger. Powerful factions with varying ideals, advanced weaponry and armor, wacky and vicious enemies, and a few funny moments for some comic relief. What else could you want? Sadly, there are a few flaws. People don't really seem to express their emotions in their face the same way their voice does. Even after several years, there are still a few glitches and bugs that can be frustrating at times. But there are improvements over Fallout 3. You can have more control over your companions and they won't die. Your actions truly have an impact on the wasteland, and your choices affect how factions see you. For example, killing the leader of a faction will definitely anger them, and giving supplies to another faction will make them like you. Also, factions don't seem to be clearly "good" or "evil" and karma is not as significant. While I have not played the DLC, I have looked them up and they are a lot more closely tied to the main storyline. And Hardcore mode adds a new survival aspect where companions can die, and you need food, water, and sleep, and ammo has weight. If you are a true Fallout fan, or can tolerate an occasional glitch, then I highly recommend this.

Firstly if your expecting a fps, this is not it, but a RPG that is pretty stellar.

Pros: Choices. They matter, want to kill the deuchebag main character? You can, want to kill strippers for some reason, you can. Heaps of factions to choose from all with interesting back stories. Different endings that are summed up well. Level tree. Diverse and you max out everything skill by the end.

Content. A good 35hr game with lots of quests and interesting discoveries in the this open world.

Gameplay. Feels sluggish and out dating, and relies on stats rather then skill.
Animations. Out dated, bad facial animations, awkward time stopping conversations.

The technology of the newest part of the fallout series is over aged and besides the hardcore mode and the reputation-system, the new features of New Vegas are manageable. But altogether, New Vegas is a successful new part and not just an add-on, with more than 100 hours of gaming, an interesting story and a new setting to explore.
