Simply a stunning game, although with no major additions to Fallout New Vegas, it offers 150+ more quests, a new giant world to explore , a new rich quest-line with multiple endings, and much more. And for only $30 it's well worth the money. Expand

Fallout New Vegas Is my favorite game of all time. It's basically fallout 3 with a better story and more toys. This game is the ultimate nerdgasm. The guns... there are some guns in this game... And the characters... and the plot once you get over the start, when you finally start to understand... best game ever.

Not perfect, but still one of the most engrossing games I've played in quite a while. The story and script are top notch, as is the voice acting (which is always nice to find out in a game). The lack of an option to carry on playing once the game is finished is quite annoying, but I suppose that being this way at least allows the story to carry the game and leaves you hungry for more. Some of the physics need working on (characters falling through scenery etc) but on the whole the visuals are good. Not quite as epic as when you first step out of the sewers in Oblivion, but still pretty sweet. Not sure I'd like to play another post-apocalyptic Fallout game, though. Maybe they should set the next one several hundred years after the events of New Vegas when mankind has recovered somewhat, or at least try something new. Expand

A good game [period] The storyline is great, it provides RPG elements that aren't really difficult to understand, a huge world to explore, loads of enemies to shoot / beat / blow up / poison / whatever. But get a companion (or solo if you prefer) and just pick one, you'll have a good time no matter what. The final flaw I'd like to mention is how depressing it can get, you look out at the half-dead world and...you just kinda get sad, but it also adds to the story, that again: the world is half-dead. Although with many glitches, is still a great game. This game is the same as fallout 3, it is like a map pack for 3 and could be a DLC but they have added some things like aim down sights which is nice. I enjoyed this game but I hope future fallout games are more different.

Improves on fallout 3 in many areas of game-play, the story is still fun and creative and like all Bethesda games there is plenty to do. Minor issues include the invisible walls in mountainous areas and the lack of improvement in textures from Fallout 3. However these issues in no way ruin what is a fantastic game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do not listen to the nay sayers of Fallout: New Vegas. This game is truly remarkable. The vast open wasteland filled with hundreds of quests, NPC's, ridiculous weapons and crazy wildlife is not only genius but significantly important in lasting appeal. The game has plenty for you to keep coming back to and with the addition of DLC the abundance of Fallout fun gets even bigger. You will never get tired of walking the watsteland and discovering abandoned homes and facilities, caves and canyons or even populated communities with each individual to their own story. If you love an open world game this is for you. Fallout 3 players will enjoy this considerably and Elder Scroll fans should use New Vegas as a highly respectable filler until they get their hands on Skyrim. Note the game does encounter a few bugs and graphics are not up there with majority of most games these days but don't worry, you won't be focusing on that when you witness your own execution. Expand

Although maybe lacking some of the atmosphere and general wasteland feel that made Fallout 3 so immersive, Fallout New Vegas more than makes up for it in both content and charm. Every place you find has a back storyAlthough maybe lacking some of the atmosphere and general wasteland feel that made Fallout 3 so immersive, Fallout New Vegas more than makes up for it in both content and charm. Exploring the practically untouched [by the nuclear war] areas of New Vegas and the surrounding desert is great fun and absolutely packed full of interesting stories and NPCs. Every place you find has a back story and most likely an actual quest tied to it. The world of New Vegas is smaller than that of Fallout 3, but has more locations to explore and more life to it, which seems fitting due to the setting and perfectly complements the barron wastelands of Fallout 3 by offering the player a different slice of a post-apocalyptic world. The introduction of factions is very much welcomed and your alliance with each one has major implications on the world and the story, allowing for multiple play throughs with different endings. Gunplay has been tightened and now has iron sights for easier aiming. However, this does make VATS mode a little bit useless now as aiming is so much more accurate. I experienced zero bugs that affected the game in any major way (once had a flying dog, but that was just hilarious) so I was overall pleased with the quality. The music and sound effects are fitting and really flesh out the world. Companions are much improved over Fallout 3 with the companion wheel, where in you can select many different orders for your companion to carry out on the fly. The game also comes with a Survival/hardcore mode where you have to constantly eat/drink/sleep to function. This is a fantastic addition and implemented brilliantly, adding a real feeling of desperation as you scavenge through old convenience stores for some canned food and bottles of water. The levelling system is solid and has a vast number of perks for you to choose from cannibalism to be able to tame wild animals. I do realise that some people had some horrid bugs with this game (save game corruption etc) but I experienced close to zero bugs after spending a good 200 hours exploring the entire landscape and doing every mission available, so any bugs present will be variable between copies. Anyway, highly recommend for lovers of RPGs and Sandbox titles. Expand

Exploration is the best thing about this game, as there are so many locations to loot and explore. You can make a whole business out of looting, and you can spend hours just wandering into the wasteland, looking for signs of human habitation, and running into dangerous creatures who are fun to take on. But just because you can do that, doesn' t mean that the main quest is boring at all. Oh no, even though I just only got into New Vegas, it has a very interesting path of moving you from location to location and the whole story of the NCR vs Legion is awesome too, as you have the ability to choose a side. All in all this is definitely worth your money. I only decline from giving it a perfect ten because of problems with the save system. save often because its possible a save might become corrupted. It has some great improvements over Fallout 3, and there is NO way this is a step back. The glitches and bugs have over the years (through several patches) become nothing but minor details that you can be lucky to completely avoid in a playthrough. If you can enjoy a flawed game, then there is a ridiculous amount of hours to spend in this game, and a true completionist might even hit three digits of hours of playing time. No matter how you correspond with a laggy and at times really slow game, the player still might find themself shaking their head over the technical errors here and there, some of which might actually break a main quest for you, making you unable to finish the storyline the way you wanted. Then again, any real Fallout fan would know how important it is to save your game every 30 minutes of a Fallout game. When users give this game a rating of 0 because they can't look past a few techical errors and they forgot to save for two hours when they die, that doesn't make the game worthy of the lowest score possible. Now a lot of people rate this game higher than it's predecessor and I do feel the characters have had the most attention but I feel the restriction at the start of the game (not being able to head north) makes the game feel a bit linear (reason it misses out on game of the year) and although side quests and locations are dotted along the path to New Vegas the game just doesn't have the sense of freedom that Fallout 3 had. All this being said it is still a top notch videogame and all the other stuff you loved from Fallout 3 is still here (like the crazy huge and imaginative arsenal available). I believe New Vegas should be mentioned among the elite of this generation. Expand

Fallout: New Vegas is one of the best games I own. It has a beautiful wasteland full of treasure and danger. Powerful factions with varying ideals, advanced weaponry and armor, wacky and vicious enemies, and a few funny moments for some comic relief. What else could you want? Sadly, there are a few flaws. People don't really seem to express their emotions in their face the same way their voice does. Even after several years, there are still a few glitches and bugs that can be frustrating at times. But there are improvements over Fallout 3. You can have more control over your companions and they won't die. Your actions truly have an impact on the wasteland, and your choices affect how factions see you. For example, killing the leader of a faction will definitely anger them, and giving supplies to another faction will make them like you. Also, factions don't seem to be clearly "good" or "evil" and karma is not as significant. While I have not played the DLC, I have looked them up and they are a lot more closely tied to the main storyline. And Hardcore mode adds a new survival aspect where companions can die, and you need food, water, and sleep, and ammo has weight. If you are a true Fallout fan, or can tolerate an occasional glitch, then I highly recommend this.

The main quests are fun and interesting, and there are choices that the player needs to make that'll affect the main questline and ending so choose wisely. There are tons of side quests to do in this game too, which are all great in there own way. The only complaint I have about some quests is that they conflict with each other; if I complete one quest, then I may not be allowed to do another, or I complete a quest and I automatically fail a quest I never even knew about. The gameplay itself is absolutely fantastic. There are tons of guns and armor to use, the leveling system is really good and there's hardcore mode. In this mode, the player needs to actually drink water, eat food, sleep to survive, and be more cautious of the environment overall, it's an incredible feature that adds to the game. The biggest complaint I have about this game is the bugs and glitches. V.A.T.S. (combat system that freezes time to allow you to attack your enemy) doesn't always work and my character stands there and does nothing, enemies spawn out of nowhere, and objects disappear and fall through the floor. Also, my game will frequently crash and saves become corrupt, which is really frustrating. Another minor thing is that the graphics aren't improved at all compared to Fallout 3. It's been two years, so I would think the developers would improve the graphics. Fallout: New Vegas is an amazing RPG, but its technical flaws make it frustrating to play at times. Expand

this was a fantastic change for me i can,t say the same thing for everyone though but if you do find this game getting a bit to hard for you there,s always the option to lower the difficulty setting
hardcore mode is another thing you can turn on for a more immersive experience in this mode you gotta manage your characters hunger thirst and sleep ammunition takes up carry weight and healing items take time to take effect combined with the very hard difficulty setting you got a really challenging game
however one complaint i do have is that i feel like the ammunition for energy weapons are to heavy to use for hardcore mode in terms of practicality
in turns of graphics theirs not much to talk about since this game uses the same game engine as fallout 3 with the same quality graphics while it,s not much off a problem for me it,s worth noting none the less
their are quite a few new weapons and armor to use in this game along with some weapons and armor that where also in fallout 3
more ways to repair your armor and weapons now with the introduction of the weapon repair kit you can earn these as quest rewards in game and you can also craft them from commonly found materials however you can,t repair your armor with them and theirs no armor version of one the only way you can repair your armor is either paying an npc to do it for you which is very expensive or find the same version of the armor and repair your armor using that piece of armor as spear parts if you get the jury rigging perk though this is much easier to manage
combat for the most part is the same as it was in fallout 3
the story was fascinating and overall i found it was an improvement to fallout 3 great story
skills other then speech do matter more in this game then fallout 3 when talking to npcs though dialog speech still is a big part of it though
now i talk about the down sides
unfortunately i found this game crashed more often then fallout 3 did i had 10+ crashes during my play through so make sure to save your progress regularly theirs also more bugs and glitches then i expected to see as well certainly more bugs in this game then in fallout 3 its only because of these problems that i just could not give this game a 10 out of 10 rating but regardless still a fantastic game go pick it up

Sure, the game may be very glitchy, and has a BUNCH of bugs, but other than that, not only is it my favorite game, it's my favorite game of the series. And the DLC's are pretty good, but they could defiantly do better than what they chose the DLC's as. I also think they should have added some more references to other Fallout games.

Add to that the faction system and your map is now segmented into territories where you feel like a true loner and outcast to everyone. As a teen playing this and coming off of the outstanding breadth of Fallout's 3 content I was very disappointed. As an adult with a more critical eye to the gaming world I love, I have a new outlook of Fallout New Vegas; it's pretty fantastic.

Fallout New Vegas really tests your abilities constantly and the decisions you make in the game can actually have a more powerful effect on the overall story than 3 could ever hope. If you like stories and writing in games and you had to choose between Fallout 3 or New Vegas, then New Vegas would be picked near instantly for me. What 3 does better I think is exploration, but that's not to say New Vegas lacks this: there is alot to explore and find in New Vegas, it's just the feel and freedom of 3 made it more adventurous.

The expansions (as I score this based on the game and all expansions together) are very good to even amazing. There really is a quality in writing that makes the characters in those expansions so memorable and interesting. Really, the expansions can easily rival 3's and even surpass them in some areas (such as Dead Money to Operation Anchorage). If you love Fallout 3, you should play New Vegas if you haven't despite it being almost 7 years old. It's a game that can really up the ante on survival and deliver good moments that gamers can feel awesome for.

Fallout New Vegas, set in the Mojave wastes is a game that both improves and builds upon what Bethesda did with Fallout 3, and while it's still held back by technical limitations and time constraints, New Vegas is nothing short of a masterpiece. Obsidians work here is amazing, there are so many moving parts all working in tandem to create a world that feels far more alive than Washington, or even the Commonwealth or Virginia in its successors. It's truly something that needs to be experienced first hand to truly understand.

The main factions in the game consist of The New California Republic, Caesars Legion and Mr. House, all of which feel fleshed out and real. The NCR are the closest thing in the wasteland to an old world government, trying to bring everybody together to create a new world like the old one, however they're struggling, they're spread too thin and can't keep the peace, many people in the Mojave don't agree with their tax laws and government, but maybe you could turn that around, or if taxes aren't your thing, there's always Caesars Legion, a Neo Roman empire built off the ideals of Rome, they want to unite the wasteland under a single banner, to become one, no matter how many people they have to butcher, crucify, enslave or torture to get there. They're inarguably the most "evil" faction, but if you like 300, and crucifixion, do I have a faction for you! Thirdly is House, definitely the smartest of all the faction leaders, smart enough to make his army out of subservient robots rather than people, and smart enough that he's the only one with a real plan, but his plan only includes the New Vegas Strip, the rest of the wasteland is left to fend for itself while House builds his personal empire. Finally there's... You, the final faction is you, and a very nice Robot called Yes Man, together you can help free the Mojave of the NCR, the Legion and House, creating an independent wasteland.

The reason I've spent so long describing each faction, is because this is where I feel New Vegas shines the brightest, each faction is painted in varying degrees of grey, nobody is necessarily good, it's all about who's the least bad, which is a question still generating discussion even today, nearly 11 years later. In short, this is why I think Fallout New Vegas is such a special game, the only reason I haven't scored it a straight 10, is because... well it's kinda broken beyond belief.

See Obsidian weren't exactly given all the time in the world to create New Vegas, so while I still believe it's a masterpiece, it's very much an unpolished masterpiece. Enemies warping through the floor, body parts disappearing, entire questlines bugging out and becoming unfinishable, all here and accounted for, I sure hope you like spending over 20 hours one game only for your desired Faction to randomly become inaccessible because an essential NPC refuses to talk to you, because that's happened to me, and it's not fun. This is something that can be fixed on PC with mods, but unfortunately for us console peasants, these are potentially game breaking, and because of that I can only ever recommend you play Fallout New Vegas on PC, the Console experience is just too unstable.

Overall, New Vegas is a masterclass of the RPG genre, it's the best Fallout post-Bethesda buyout and likely will be forever, a game I can go back to endlessly and talk about even more.

The setting, writing, combat, story and roleplaying are all improved from Fallout 3. I'd honestly call it the perfect Fallout if it had better character customization and combat. The colossal amount of bugs are still here to stay. Combat is improved with additions like aiming down sights but it still isn't up to par with Fallout 4's. The character customization is barely improved from Fallout 3 as well. These are just minor nitpicks though, this game is very near perfect in my opinion.
    Awe, true to Caesar.
I beat this game in November of 2019.

Played on Xbox Series X with backwards compatibility.

Yess the game looks dated but the game plays fun with a lot of things to do.

The multiple possible endings gives a high replay value for this game.

I first played this game back in late 2012, and I have to say that this game is a masterpiece I STILL play to this day, obsidian did a beautiful job, and I'm glad it stuck with Fallout 3's engine. This is just an amazing game by all means, hands down, I love it on the same level of Fallout 3, thank you obsidian.

A true RPG that has impactful decisions and a varieties of paths through a richly detailed world. A masterpiece of narrative design and story structure. There is some bad here, with the visuals being mediocre and some technical issues, but this is a landmark game that needs to be played.

Fallout: New Vegas stands as a testament to the power of immersive gameplay, gripping storytelling, and unparalleled player choice. From the moment you step foot into the vast and post-apocalyptic Mojave Wasteland, you'll be captivated by the ingenious gameplay mechanics and the meticulously crafted world.

Let's start with the gameplay mechanics and open-world exploration. It's clear that the developers poured their heart and soul into creating a gameplay experience that is both ingenious and addicting. The combat system strikes a balance between skill and strategy, providing engaging encounters with a variety of weapons and tactics. The RPG elements, such as the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and the many various perks, allow for character customisation and playstyle diversity. Furthermore, the open world itself is a labor of love, brimming with character, detail, and a sense of history. Every location, from the sprawling New Vegas Strip to the desolate outskirts, feels meticulously handcrafted, inviting you to uncover its secrets and immerse yourself in its rich lore.

Moving on to the storyline and quest design, Fallout: New Vegas shines brightly. The game presents an exceptionally crafted narrative, where your choices and actions shape the outcome of the world around you. The main storyline, filled with political intrigue and moral dilemmas, keeps you engaged and invested from start to finish. Additionally, the side quests are a true highlight, offering memorable characters, complex branching paths, and surprising twists. The level of freedom provided to the player is unparalleled, allowing you to forge alliances, manipulate factions, and determine the fate of the Mojave Wasteland.

Characters and companion interactions in Fallout: New Vegas are nothing short of exceptional. The wasteland is populated with a diverse cast of memorable and fully fleshed-out characters, each with their own motivations, backstories, and agendas. The depth of the writing and voice acting brings them to life, making you genuinely care about their well-being and forging strong connections. The companions, in particular, add another layer of depth to the game, as their loyalty and interactions with the player character create dynamic and impactful relationships.

Visually, Fallout: New Vegas effectively captures the gritty and desolate atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic world. While the graphics may not be cutting-edge by today's standards, the visual design succeeds in creating an immersive and believable world. The attention to detail in environmental design, from the dilapidated buildings to the irradiated landscapes, adds a sense of realism and depth to the experience.

Role-playing and player choice are where Fallout: New Vegas truly excels. The game grants you an unparalleled level of agency, allowing you to shape your character's path and influence the world around you. The choices you make carry weight and consequence, affecting not only your personal story but also the fate of various factions and settlements. The branching storylines and multiple endings give the game immense replay value, as each playthrough offers a unique experience based on your decisions and playstyle.

Sound design and music in Fallout: New Vegas are nothing short of phenomenal. The soundtrack, featuring a blend of iconic retro tunes and atmospheric compositions, sets the tone for the game perfectly. The ambient sounds of the wasteland, from the howling winds to the distant gunfire, create a sense of immersion and contribute to the overall atmosphere.

In terms of overall enjoyment and replay value, Fallout: New Vegas delivers on every front. The ingenious gameplay mechanics, exceptional storyline and quest design, immersive atmosphere, and unforgettable characters make it an absolute masterpiece. The game grants players an unprecedented level of freedom and choice, ensuring that each playthrough offers a fresh and rewarding experience.

Probably my favourite game and the best Fallout game there is. Lots of weapons, clothes, quests, endings, epic and detailed faction, improved companion mechanics (those in Fallout 3 were horrible) and better animations that actually make sense. Plus the DLCs are extremely fun too. Badass weapons and armors aswell.

The technology of the newest part of the fallout series is over aged and besides the hardcore mode and the reputation-system, the new features of New Vegas are manageable. But altogether, New Vegas is a successful new part and not just an add-on, with more than 100 hours of gaming, an interesting story and a new setting to explore.
