The music in Dirt 2 is god awful, enough said. The majority of the racing events tend to be in SUV's and those silly Buggies, you have no freedom in picking any different kind of car you prefer. The Americanized maps and x-games themed single player is dull and wasteful, rally racing originated in Europe, not in Baja California or Japan! Despite the sad flaws there are some enjoyments you can find in Dirt 2. They have a decent selection of cars for each type of event, you can change the color to any kind of preset color you can earn throughout the game, and no, you cannot choose your own. The menu's interface is beyond awesome, really neat. The multiplayer is good, not great, everything is randomized, even your car.. If you enjoyed Dirt for what Dirt was don't buy Dirt 2. Expand

Picked this up at a 2 for 40 sale and loved every minute of it, while it's presence has changed since the first game, it still shows class and presteige and pays tribute Colin McRae themselves. The cars handle suburb and the soundtrack is excellent.

Physics aren't any less detailed with a great feel for the car's weight and grip. Braking and drifting through corners feels much more natural than in the original Dirt (one of it's main drawbacks). Content-wise there are plenty of countries you can race in, but just a few more tracks for each environment would have been great. Classic rally modes come a little short (the longest rally event i've driven so far was two stages). In all other aspects, the game is truly great. This is the definitive offroad racing game to date, and with a few more novelties from Dirt and slightly more tracks it would be a perfect 10! Expand

One of the best, if not the best racer ive played, having played almost every nfs, gtr, moto gp game. The interaction between the vehicle and the terrain has never been done so well before in a game. Going from dirt to a paved road and feeling the change in grip is quite the experience.

Truck and buggy races don't have the same appeal as a technical uphill rally race for instance. If you have even an inkling of an interest for a racing game then this, definitely, is the one to try.

I do agree with the complaint that there should have been more pure rally races, but it's one of only a handful of small annoyances, which are all ultimately overshadowed by the truly spectacular graphics, stylish and inspired interface, and great soundtrack. Also, the Flashback feature is well-implemented and makes playing the game for long stretches even more fun, because you don't have to always restart a race if you lose focus for a second. I have no idea what Boomtown is talking about above. There is quite a bit of content in this game. And, to rate a game down because it doesn't have as much content as you would like in it is no reason to give it a lower score. Like I said though, this game has plenty of variety as compared to something like Excite Truck, which is still a lot of fun.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Dirt 2 is a beautifully crafted, high adrenaline pseudo-sim blast that can last for quite some time. Loved the soundtrack and the beautiful environments, and the cars look and feel great. The best part of this game though, is the incredible send-off to Colin Mcrae that it dedicates itself to. The final video as well as the unlockable special Mcrae series are awesome. There were a few downsides. One is that some of the race modes suck (gate crasher especially) and the game can get very repetative once you get deep. Also, where's the hour long (or more) multistage endurance race? Expand

You know when a driving game is good when you don't get bored of replaying the same level over and over and Dirt 2 is one of those games. The game fails on top marks by steering away from rallying and generally being Americanised, I would have loved to play the old PS1/2 Colin McRae games with this game engine and graphics, the other problem is on disc DLC, which is a big no no but I will take that out on Dirt 3. Dirt 2 is prettier than its predecessor, has more varied tracks and a functional multiplayer offering. What it doesn’t have is a focus on pure time-trial rally races, which is really what I expect from a rally game.

Even those who might sniff at the game’s focus on the extreme end of off-road motorsport will find it hard to scoff at its rewarding handling model, its sense of atmosphere and its sumptuous visuals, all of which help make it a highlight of the Colin McRae series.
  3. DiRT 2 achieves something that looked pretty difficult to accomplish, and manages to be even better than the first game. Colin McRae would be proud of it.
