    Excellent! After the perfect DMC 3, Capcom gave us a great sequel, and with the same Dante of the previous game (Reuben Langdon did an excellent job as voice actor and mocap actor). Style Switch on the fly makes the gameplay perfect, giving the player the chance to make expectacular combo chains. More combos than DMC 3 and the add of a new character on the franchise, giving new storyExcellent!     It s hard to me how anyone can score this game under 8. Deep combat system,difficult levels from casual to hardcore, beautiful graphics, full action packed, 60fps, a lot of style.... Good work again Capcom

    As expected, DMC4 is what DMC should be: rough, tough, fast, and flowing with style. Although short, the plot structure is strong and deep, giving characters that one can admire and identify with. Nero certainly was a nice risk to take and was a very admirable character to have in the series. Nicely ranged techniques for both Nero and Dante, with distinguished combos a challenge to As expected, DMC4 is what DMC should be: rough, tough, fast, and flowing with style. Although short, the plot structure is strong and deep, giving characters that one can admire and identify with. Nero certainly was a nice risk to take and was a very admirable character to have in the series. Nicely ranged techniques for both Nero and Dante, with distinguished combos a challenge to execute and for good reason. The difficulty range in itself I believe was nice and balanced, offering a slow, steady mode for new gamers, and Devil Hunter for the more experienced ones, moving on to Son of Sparda and harder difficulties (which need to be unlocked). Achievements are quite difficult to get, and require time, especially ones associated with the arena-like Blood Palace, and any difficulty mode, even easy, will put the average player through his paces. Those that say the game is too easy or repetitive probably have not played on the higher-up levels quite yet. Into hack-n-slash? Into games that require the cut above? Give this a spin.… Expand

    DMC4 is terrible fun to play. For me that's a 9. The graphics are beatifully designed and the engine is almost rock solid. The control is well crafted and woth practice the combo sequences can be excitating. It has a very high replay value with Bloogy Palace and patterns and enemies varying from one level of difficulty to another. Story has no weight, but the cinematic sequences are DMC4 is terrible fun to play. For me that's a 9. The graphics are beatifully designed and the engine is almost rock solid.     Overall a very solid game. Any fan of the first 3 will not be disappointed. I'm glad they've finally decided to release this game for the Xbox.

    The most fluent combat system of the series, partnered with gorgeous cinematics and a surprisingly appealing shift in tone lend to the second best devil may cry game to date. Bring on number five!

    It may not be as perfect as the 1st dmc but this gave me one hell of a journey i wont forget,graphics and story are great!nt everybody will like it but if you dont like mazes,plenty of button mashing action and nt your average story well then simply dont buy it.

    There are some bad things about this game. The level design leaves you out wandering around confused. Dante's weapons have half the combos and moves of DMC3's weapons. Three of the bosses are recycled a bit too much. And the worst thing is the story isn't all that great (although it is nowhere near as bad ad DMC2's plot.) Now for the good things about this game... Nero's one of the best hack and slash character's ever. His combo's are varied and easy to pull off. The exceed system with his sword brings something refreshingly new. He has a homing beacon to help him find secrets in the game, like hidden levels. And best of all he is the first hack and slash character in ages to have a throw button. The Style system is easier to use thanks to a style bar that goes down slower than DMC3. You can switch between all of Dante's fighting styles and weapons in the middle of a fight by just hitting the trigger and D-pad buttons. All and all this game has it's flaws but it also has it's strengths (which are being overlooked in the reviews). Also could metacritic please do a better job of screening reviews? One of the worst reviews for this game baselessly bashes it simply because the plot is anime based. They even go so far as to call the whole game Animoo garbage.… Expand

    Very fun, VERY solid game. easily the best in the series. thanks to Nero, it has all the exciting newness that was felt in the first DMC, and it also has the difficulty and challenge of DMC3. gorgeous graphics (especially in the lighting department), slick, fluid, uninterruped gameplay, awesome cutscenes, a (FINALLY) fully customizeable control scheme... the list of triumphs goes on. i Very fun, VERY solid game. easily the best in the series. thanks to Nero, it has all the exciting newness that was felt in the first DMC, and it also has the difficulty and challenge of DMC3. gorgeous graphics (especially in the lighting department), slick, fluid, uninterruped gameplay, awesome cutscenes, a (FINALLY) fully customizeable control scheme... the list of triumphs goes on. i especially like Dante's new ultra-cocky demeanor. some of the bouts between Dante, Nero, and certain bosses are nothing short of hilarious (Dante vs. the She-serpent ftw!). that being said, the game isn't without flaws. it is EXTREMELY repetitive. as in, Halo 1 repetitive. for those of you who haven't played Halo 1, the last 1/3 of the game is essentially the same thing as the first 2/3. only in reverse. DMC 4 does this exact same thing. and also expect to be fighting a lot of the same bosses two, and even three times with VERY little variation in the fights. with the exception of Lucifer, an exploding energy sword, none of the aquired weapons are that interesting to use. the Gauntlets (a normally fun staple in the DMC series) are useless, and the Pandora, a 666-in-1 gun is way too tough to use to be practical in any way. but, the game is fun, if somewhat short. haven't quite beaten it yet, but my guess is it falls somewhere in the 14-16 hour range, assuming you just breeze through it and not worry about extras or anything like that too much. there is probably enough extra things on the harder difficulties to warrant a couple extra playthroughs, but like all the rest of the DMC games, don't expect a lot of lasting appeal. still, a must buy, especially for any DMC fans who have been waiting to see the series on the Xbox.     The game is solid, however the human mode is too easy and the Devil Hunter mode is too much of a difference in the increase of difficulty. Don't make me remind you about the harder difficulties such as Heaven Or Hell, Dante Must Die.

    Awesome new features, gota love new character Nero and his devil bringer, dante now has more freedom in combat and Pandora is one hell of a suitcase.

    Simply my favourite game EVER!! Can't get much better than this. Graphics are AMAZING!! The story line is great. I was one of the people who was very unsure about the new main character Nero, as i have played the whole DMC series and totally love Dante. However on playing this game i very much enjoyed playing as Nero. And later getting th play as Dante again made my day. Dante is Simply my favourite game EVER!! Can't get much better than this. Graphics are AMAZING!! The story line is great. I was one of the people who was very unsure about the new main character Nero, as i have played the whole DMC series and totally love Dante. However on playing this game i very much enjoyed playing as Nero. And later getting th play as Dante again made my day. Dante is always going to be better than Nero though!!     DMC 4 has a few flaws, combat can be repetitive, camera angle can sometimes get really annoying. But as a whole DMC 4 is a nice solid game with a decent story line, spectacular boss fights and visuals.

Even though the main levels become repetitive, the game still deserves praise for its good cutscenes and decent story and romantic side plot. I was glad they improved upon the style system from DMC 3 but I was sort of disappointed at the removal of some styles but it was compensated with the removal of having to select one style for one mission.
    As for Nero, his combat technique is a little bit different. it requires precise timing in order to power up the sword combos and the player must take note of whether they'll risk themselves when using the devil trigger arm that can do throws that Dante cannot. The platforming and puzzles are either too long or just plain pointless. The enemies though are slow don't always notify the player when they're attack. At the most, the boss battles compensate for the extra challenge depending the difficulty.
    It's a lovely game but could have been better if there wasn't so much repetition, but the game certainly is a favourite. I could hope that Capcom remake DMC 3 with the multi-style system of DMC 4 or maybe make another DMC game (not that Ninja Theory stuff but the new one was okay)    … Expand

    Enjoyed the game a lot. This is my personal favorite DMC of the series. Very good hack and slash action and changes the pace by playing as different characters. Very good for what it is. Only complaint is it's a bit too easy.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is not quite as good as its predecessor, DMC3. That's mainly due to the fact that about a third of the game consists of backtracking back through Nero's levels with Dante.

    You have two protagonists, Nero and Dante, who must defeat the bosses of the Order of the Sword. This will take you from a futuristic science lab to a forest, to inside a huge demonic statue whose insides look like some kind of interpretation of hell. Through the course of the story, Nero finds out he is somehow related to Sparda, Dante and Vergil's father. Capcom has not yet answered who exactly Nero is, even though hints have been given in a non-canon novel that he's Vergil's son. This should make for an interesting story for DMC5. After Nero finds out he's part demon, strange things start happening. Dante attempts to kill the preacher of the Order of the Sword, the order Nero is part of. In the end, Nero has to accept himself for who he is and beat the person who wishes to subjugate the humans with demonic force.
    The story is expertly crafted, and the cutscenes are marvelous. It amazes me that even though this game's development time was reduced by a whole year, it still turned out so great. There's suspense, there's well-choreographed and stylish action, there's an amazing revelation, and it's epic in scale. This game pretty much has it all.

    The gameplay is excellent. Dante, the protagonist of the previous games, can now switch between five styles on the fly, with just one button press each time. Yes, one style was added; the Dark Slayer style Vergil uses in DMC3 (roughly). Each style, like before, does different things. The Swordmaster style alters your B button for melee weapons, the Gunslinger alters B for guns, Royal Guard allows you to block and counter, and the Trickster allows you to dodge, play with your enemies, and to close distance. The amount of combos you can do in this game, and the variety of them is great. Almost all of the attacks work well together, allowing you to create long chains of combos. Each weapon is spectacular in its own way; go Bruce Lee on your enemies with the Gilgamesh, or blast them into the stratosphere with the Pandora, or just go classic Dante with the Rebellion... and that's not even all the weapons.

    The graphics are amazing for a 2008 game, no doubt partly due to the fact that the game was created on an engine meant for PCs. Somehow it's been altered to work with the 360 and PS3 consoles really well too. The characters look sharp, they move fluidly and realistically and have nice combat models, and the contrast is amazing. Even the brightness levels seem perfect on my calibrated TV. Visual effects, like fire, look great. The cutscenes, even in 2014, still look sharp, fluid and contrastful. The game runs at a steady 60 frames per second, which only ever dips when you fight aerially and something blocks the screen (like tree branches).

    The soundtrack could be better. Many of the combat tracks are entirely forgettable, as they sound like rehashed DMC3 songs and have almost no melody. Most of them sound too much alike too. They do kind of get your blood pumping, but it's generally a bland mess that goes on forever. The lyrics are nonsensical; it's English with bad grammar, created by the Japanese development team. I'm not sure which genre they even are, though it's been called metal. It's very un-rock-like, though.
    The acting is very nice, though. The person who voiced Nero, Johnny Yong Bosch, does an excellent job. He sounds like he means everything he says - his entire intonation changes when he gets sad, and Nero's anger will surely make your heart skip a beat sometimes. Reuben Langdon sounds a bit odd sometimes, though. He sounds like he's trying to lower his voice, because he's supposed to portray a Dante older than in DMC3. So whenever he needs to raise his voice, it starts sounding unnatural. The actor who portrayed Credo did a decent job, nothing more I can say about it. Agnus's VA did very well; he truly sounds distraught and angry, and the contrast between that and his more 'cold' side is top-notch.
    The actor who voiced Sanctus did pretty well too - he sounds evil, and he's got a great maniacal laugh. He accomplishes his work without sounding too over-the-top.

    This game is great for newcomers and old DMC fans alike. Nero serves as the tutorial character, and he's easy to use. His Devil Bringer arm adds some nice in-gameplay cutscenes that allow you to severely punish your enemies. Dante, meanwhile, is the perfect character for seasoned players, with huge combo strings and fast-paced attacks.
    I should've reviewed this game far sooner, but I'll settle for singing its praises in 2014, with the Special Edition coming out in 2015. I will surely pick that one up as well.    … Expand

    This is the first title of the series that i have ever played and i was simply amazed at the fact that i hadn't discovered this game until now.     As for Dante, this is where the game shines. Luckily, they removed the feature from Devil May Cry 3 in which you are forced into picking one Style for the mission. Now, you can switch instantly with the d-pad, and can pull of some sick combos.
    Unfortunately, you are only backtracking through Nero's levels, which gets really repetitive.

    However, this game has some of the best boss battles in the series, as well as the toughest. Berial was interesting, but the best ones were Credo and The Savior. Credo in particular. Sadly, with an awful story line, the game doesn't convey enough emotion for me to care about most of these characters, and the boss battles I'm fighting. While in Devil May Cry 3, I actually felt like the dual between Dante and Vergil was important, and I wanted to beat it.

    The puzzles in this game are very simple, and feel like pointless padding. Especially since the focus is combat, where this game succeeds.

    I'd talk about the story, but it's virtually non-existent. Overall, it's a very underwhelming title in the series, considering that it only gets somewhat good half way through the game. Not worth it. Mediocre.    … Expand

    Overall a repetitive game lacking any real need of thought. The franchise has repeatedly gone downhill since the first one as capcom haven't spiced it up that much at all. This game is not worth a purchase but if you must try renting it out first.

God of War changed the Action genre a long time ago (by video game standards), and DMC4 just doesn't live up to that new standard. The incredible visuals, and stunning cut-scenes carry the player through what would have otherwise been a lack-luster experience. I played through the title, but put it in my sell pile immediately after the final credits rolled.… Expand

    This game was horrible, graphics are not bad. Too many cinematic and the enemies were too easy except for the boss's. The game is very repetitive especially in "the gauntlet". I cannot comprehend how anybody could give it a good score.

So first off you start as Nero - a cross between Ex Man Utd football player Ronaldo and Metal Gear's Raiden - and you bash through 11 boring levels of hack N' Slash. At level 12 you become Dante, AND YOU HAVE TO PLAY THROUGH THE PREVIOUS 11 LEVELS AGAIN IN REVERSE ORDER... Such a cheap and Honestly, I hated it.     I must first address a grievance of mine. The most appalling thing in this game is the repetition of the levels and bosses halfway through the game. Players control new character Nero for the first half and Dante for the second half.     Honestly, I found this to be a rather weak continuation of the series. Nero is nowhere near as interesting as Dante, and should not even exist in my opinion. Devil May Cry should ALWAYS be centered around Dante. The combat is good, the visuals are good, the story is good, but some rather lame characters (aside from Dante.) A real shame considering just how right they got the series withHonestly, I found this to be a rather weak continuation of the series. Nero is nowhere near as interesting as Dante, and should not even exist in my opinion. Devil May Cry should ALWAYS be centered around Dante. The combat is good, the visuals are good, the story is good, but some rather lame characters (aside from Dante.) A real shame considering just how right they got the series with Devil May Cry 3. Devil May Cry 4 does not technically do anything wrong as it more or less follows the Devil May Cry formula of 1 & 3. But that is perhaps the problem, on a new generation of consoles I did expect them to go further, instead they played it safe and just did what they did before.     I'm not sure how old this game is but I just played some of it. I was very disappointed. The enemy design and A.I. was terrible. The game stops every few seconds with a flyby or animation and it just kills it for me. The map is useless... Half the time you have no idea where to go...     I love dmc4 so much! Nero was a welcome addition. Good deep hack n slash in this game. S Rank everything and Bloody palace was so superb for Devil May cry franchise. Dmc1 was more better than dmc4 imo.

    The game is amazing the cinematics are great so is the gameplay which allows you to use many different combos to take your enemies down however the grading system at the end of each mission could be done better and a certain boss proves to be quite hard.

    Though as disappointing as it may sound but you cannot play as Dante ,but people don't mistake nero to be Raiden of mgs so when you start unleashing that devil bringer on those poor demons u understand that nero ain't no less than the accomplished Dante. I can say that I had more fun playing the Dante chapters than the Nero chapters (Dante's Pandoras Box is so gnarly).     A very good entry into the DMC series, with tight controls, engaging combat, and gorgeous visuals. It just seems that a Devil May Cry game should focus more on Dante, not the somewhat generic Nero.

    Awesome game, may be a bit repetitive but thats always been its style, you other love it or hate it. The bosses are amazing and so are the environments. Its not a deep, revitilisation of the genre like resident evil 4 was for survival horrors, but if you were a fan of DMC 3 you will like this.

    Ok, obviously Rtrtrt R. has never played the game, or he didn't get very far-- all fans of Dante, don't worry, you play about half of the game as him, you just have to beat the first half of the game. And also, Eugenio M., the game might've been way too easy on the first two modes, but I'm sorry, all the modes you unlock afterwards are in no way easy. And the two biggest complaints of the game I can agree with somewhat, but not enough to really detract from the fun factor of the game: the camera could be slightly annoying sometimes, but it honestly never messed me up in anything other than a minor way; and the back tracking was repetitive, but since the combat system is so fun (and you get to play around with some of Dante's new powers), the levels aren't boring and are still enjoyable. It is a very solid game, and is more than fun-- and the cinematics (which, Eugenio, again, how can you have too many of? if you don't want cinematics, don't buy a game with even a remote trace of a plot) were a pure joy to watch, with the ridiculous yet awesome action. I suggest this game to anyone interested, but those who are slightly wary, at least rent it, and if somehow you don't enjoy it, you didn't lose too much in the process. (Oh, and for achievement mongers, (I speak as one of you) the achievements are difficult unless you are a fairly seasoned DMC player. If not, you'll likely hit about 200 or so, which stems from beating the game on the first two modes and racking up orbs and souls.)… Expand

    This game totally rocks. people that complain about the easy difficulty level obviously didn't even try it on devil hunter difficulty or the difficulty levels unlocked after you beat the game. Also, if cinematics bother you, perss START. Its that easy.

    DMC 4 Is a fast paced, action packed game with great game play that becomes repetitive as many 3rd person action games fall prey to. More than a third of the game involves backtracking which can be annoying and shows how thin the game truley is. The cut scenes tell the narrative and there are plenty o them. There is replayability if you love beating your scores or placing on leaderboards.

    Honestly? Best god damn game i played so far, the exact game type that i love and adore, the super powers, the combos, the spec effects, graphics! First game that i decided to replay right after i finished it, but now on legendary dark knight difficulty, and you know what? It feels even better now! Well earned 10/10

    I tried to enjoy the game but just not feel finished. It feels like it was halfway done and then it's went off a cliff. I enjoy the characters so much but I can't enjoy the game who feels like it repeated itself halfway through.

    And the story feels like autopilot. I enjoyed the Love Story part of it, but it does feels like the dishon autopilot and they didn't give enough time to make it meaningful or feeling lovely enough. I enjoy the cut scenes the very we goodly made, but I just didn't have enough time into oven and feels to hafe baked.

    Is one of those games I enjoyed immensely the first time I have put 40 hours into but I can just not enjoy it anymore because the environment and enemies are just borrowing to fight now because I doesn't have enough content. So you just have to play the same content all the time.    … Expand

    DMC4 changes protagonists from Dante to Nero. Unlike Lucia, Nero is far more cocky and emotional (where some fans have seen him as the typical punky emo kid) but also feels satisfying to play as despite even having less options as her. His Red Queen, Blue Rose, Devil Bringer and Devil Trigger w/Yamato are his only weapons against enemies. In order to avoid an utter disaster that would seem to happen that DMC 3 nailed perfectly, the mixture of all these options craft Nero more individually as a character. His Red Queen can be revved up to deal more stylish and awesome looking damage and movesets, his Blue Rose deals massive damage when charged up, his Devil Bringer can perform very satisfying and badass moves instantly even though it can detract from the control you had in the previous games (essentially a God of War style if you will) and his Devil Trigger mixed with Yamato has truly powerful moves. It would be great to see his weapon and style expand but what works is still very good.

    The story is perhaps the strongest of the 4 games and actually has some interest in dwelling in (despite it still cliched and basic in its overall execution). The characters are more of a "anime" vibe this time around, but seeing Dante return and have his talks with Nero is cool. The music is wonderful much like DMC3, so it was good to see it work well in here (for the most part). The graphics are also very well done and seeing the animations look far more clear and clean is taken for granted in the day and age of modern gaming, but for the transition from 3 to 4 is nothing short of wonderful.

    Dante returns too and actually is apart of the plot unlike Vergil in DMC3 SE where he was a bonus character to play. This is good and bad. The good is playing as Dante is still great as he has a bit more weight to his skills that acts as a balancing act with 1 to 3, but still feels great to play as him. He can also change his styles on the fly, which was a big issue 3 had that I'm grateful they fixed in the sequel. He also has new weapons and abilities that further make him a blast. The bad side though is he is not even in half the game in terms of playable missions. The tone down of weapons available to him is also a bit jarring as 3 had 5 to 4's 3, which can make creativity far less than 3 as a result. This isn't to say that there is no style (as he can use all three at any time unlike 3's 2 weapon limit) but having more weapons and guns more available like his style system would be a fantastic leap forward from 3.

    The enemy variety is a mixture of old and new enemies from 1 and 3 and I am fine with it. They fit the standard mold that series has set up, although the Seven Sins of 3 really allow different setups that the Scarecrows lack much until the introduction of the Mega versions. Blitz, Assaults and Frosts are quite formidable opponents and I like taking them on as much as possible. The boss variety is lacking and also highlights a major problem the game commits to: backtracking. As Nero, you go through fighting bosses that mostly run away and never ones you defeat. As you play as Dante, you play as clean up crew and back track through all of the game's areas to kill all the bosses. It's incredibly lazy and jarring why the devs thought this was okay. In DMC 1, you fought bosses in Nightmare's insides to damage it, so it was merely a test of your skills without overstaying it's welcome. DMC3 has one mission where you have to rematch against bosses in order to progress but it was still acceptable because it was harder versions with new movesets on top of on lower difficulties. DMC4 doesn't do this and makes backtracking a complete slog and wasted potential for the game to through.

    The Bloody Palace Mode is condense down to 100 levels from the 9999 levels in DMC3 and has preset enemy layouts instead of random encounters from 3. I saw both and played both and I like them equally even though in terms of challenge and structure 4 beats 3's. The lack of Turbo mode and multiple costumes is also lacking, giving little reason for players to complete harder modes. The harder modes dont change too much: you still have your easy, normal, hard, Dante Must Die, and Heaven or Hell. Hell and Hell is hard mode with a one hit kill that is an absolute mad man's design for players, so be prepared for a challenge.

    Devil May Cry 4 is a very good game to play and I think it's worth looking into if you want a challenge. While it doesn't stay in leagues with 1 and 3, it still manages to play with satisfaction and grace that the series is known for.    … Expand

    Hay nuevos enemigos y el usar al nuevo personaje Nero con su brazo de demonio es genial, tanto así que hubiera querido que a Dante también se le diera algo similar. Aun así el usar a Dante es lo mejor del juego pero entre los puntos negativos tengo que decir que no me pareció acertado el regresar por los mismos escenarios y pelear básicamente contra los mismos jefes con los cuales peleo Nero.

    En resumen el juego es un buen exponente de acción pero se quedo muy por debajo de Devil May Cry 3 en muchos aspectos.    … Expand

    Так же боевая система. Она была невероятной, особенно у Неро. Его магическая рука была просто какой то имбой. (Жалко в пятой части Неро получился самым скучным персонажем. Думаю из за отсутствия той самой магической руки-кошки). После Неро, честно говоря, играть за Данте было как то "скучновато". Но зато Данте это такой танк "разлюли-малина", чего только у него нет и четыре вида боя, и хренова туча оружия, но без руки-кошки всё равно чего то не хватает.
    Великолепная история, сексапильные женщины ухх! Интрига закручивается с первых титров и не отпускает почти до финала.
    Боссы. Даже не знаю где боссы слэшеров красивее, здесь или в Castlevania: Lords of Shadow? Они просто великолепны и эпичны.
    Но самое главное это конечно готическая атмосфера. Из игры просто не хочется выходить. Эта атмосфера, как мне кажется, сильно пострадала и в DMC и в пятерке.
    Теперь о не очень приятном. В игре есть бэктрекинг. Да, несколько эпизодов и боссов придётся пройти дважды за Неро и за Данте. Но. Есть одно важное но. Во-первых бой за этих двух персонажей сильно отличается, особенно с боссами. Во-вторых сами карты уровней проходятся сначала в прямом, а за тем в противоположном направлении. Так что меня это вообще не напрягло.
    Игру прошел дважды. Хочу ещё разок на PS4, жаль там нет перевода.    … Expand

    This game was just not for me. I was find with a new character in the series but, let's just say that got Nero done correctly in DMC5.

    Just OK. I loved the first two entries, but from the third on, they became ultra-comercial, generic and boring.

    Everything a hack-and-slash should be and then some. Sadly it falters with repeated level design and a moderately troublesome camera; but in the grand scheme of things, these are only minor flaws. Devil May Cry 4 delivers an experience that is second to none on Xbox 360, so far. Held together by a solid narrative, it makes your blood boil with every fight you encounter.
