Hardcore Defender fans will love it just to be able to compete for the highest leaderboard score, but everyone else probably won't need to give this a look.
  2. This is a quality version of Defender that will definitely please fans of the original, but the game doesn't hold up especially well today.
  3. If you're a long-term fan and haven't already bought it on one of innumerable compilations out there, then 400 points is just about tolerable for a game of this importance and stature.
  4. This lovingly preserved Defender's well worth the 400 Microsoft points. But there's more pure fun to be had for $5 in the Arcade - and what's the profit margin on 5% of Xbox 360 owners again?

    Still, hardcore nostalgia buffs will re-discover a deceptively simple addiction that's worth a five-spot. [Jan. 2007, p.75]
  6. We think it's too unforgiving, but try telling that to the people who've maxed out the scoreboard! [Jan 2007, p.97]
  7. Unless you just have to have every gamer score point available or need to dominate all the Xbox Live leaderboards, I’d probably pass on Defender.

Our advice is to simply move onto the next review before the retro buffs come back with their pixelated pitchforks and limp fist-waving to show their anger, the crazy bastards. [Issue 15, p.116]

An average port of a dated and infuriatingly tough arcade game. [Issue 21, p.59]
