Even moving around, the most basic function of the game, is terrible. You constantly get stuck on absolutely nothing, and it feels completely unnatural. I could spend all afternoon describing in detail all the things that this game does wrong, but quite honestly I've already wasted ~3 hours of my life and $15 on this game and I'd rather not lose any more. The only reasons that I gave this game a two instead of a zero are that it actually starts (though even that doesn't work correctly), and that the concept of the game is good. If the developers had actually put any time or effort into this game, it could have been a lot of fun. Expand

The positives are the combat is great, the game (when it functions) is fun, the customization of the weapons are good and the animations are good. The negatives are lags to much, parts of the game is broken, at times the hit registration can be off by a lot, and this isn't really the games fault but its kinda dead on consoles. I suggest you A: buy it on sale later on, or else you'll kinda feel robbed or B: wait for the bugs to be ironed out. This game on Xbox 360 is mediocre at best. Expand

Don't waste your money on this, if you want decent PvP with hack n slash play something like Dark Souls much more complexity to combat, much more fun.

Best thing I can say about this game is if not for its Steam Predecessor, you'd think this was a standalone console title.

Gameplay: It's combat is simple yet complex. All the weight and realism of Medieval Combat makes this game VERY immersive. There are no numbers, levels, perks, modifiers, or skills to be upgraded. There are 4 classes. That's it. Each class has different actions and only 2 stats that are different. Speed/Armor.
The Archer/ManAtArms being the faster but vulnerable. And the Vanguard(Monty Python's Black Knight or Crusader)/Knight being the more Armored and slower. As such, the faster classes have faster weapons and due to less weight being behind their swings, they do less damage. Meanwhile, a Vanguard can swing a Claymore taking an entirety of 1&1/2 to 2 seconds to complete it's arc. But, taking off heads quicker due to how much weight is behind each swing. Some say that the vanguard can be overpowered when swinging his longswords because the only thing that can stop a longsword's swing is another heavy weapon. Opposing forces and what not. But, fortunately for some, there is a range of Ranged weapons that the Archer class can use to gain the upper hand if he has the aim and distance, along with Man At Arms having the ability of quick attacks and evasion.
Setting/Visuals: Like I said before, "If this wasn't already out, you couldn't tell." This game looks great for a PC to Console port. With dynamic shadows and environments that really pop out, it's impressive to see what Torn Banner created. This being an Indie Developer that hasn't really made anything else. The scenery is also complimented by some pretty detailed character animations. And by that I mean how smooth the combat can look, even though the controls are so basic. What compliments THAT is the ability to dismember your opponent. Torn Banner has really gone out of their way to make the killing on PC like the same on Xbox 360. As pretty as some of the scenery can look, nothing looks better than outrageously disArming your enemy and watching him look at his profusely bleeding shoulder like the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. They do an excellent job at putting you in a Medieval Battleground where the slightest mistake in combat can cost you your life. They also added a third person view for those who play that way. Personally, I think it robs you of the experience, but that's just me.
Story: The combat and presentation is all woven together by the most simple of stories. This, being one of the reasons I keep coming back to this game. The fact is, there is no story or narrative about why you're mercilessly lopping off the heads of everyone in swinging distance. The only thing you're told, is that the nation you're in is called Agatha, and is lorded and protected by the (Blue) Agathan Knights. And their mortal enemy, are the (Red) Mason Order; a group of rebels who are tired of taking it from the Blues. That's it. The rest is up to you. This makes the gameplay the main focus, because I mean, Look at Titanfall or Destiny's story. Its so overshadowed by the Gameplay and Fun people make of it that it falls short of being interesting. Chivalry: Medieval Warfare does not have that problem, because just like the title describes, the story IS Medieval Warfare. It's the reason Halo's multiplayer was so inspiring. All it was were the Reds and Blues fighting in an Arena. Same with chivalry.
So my pros and cons for this game are as follows.
    Pros:
Great Value for an Xbox Live Game.
Great Value for a PC to Console Port
    Realism and gameplay are nice.
The lack of a lot of numbers and stats in this make the Realism stick.
Tutorial Teaches you Everything from the start.
No rushed Story to look down on.
    Cons:
It requires an Xbox Live connection (Gold to fight others.)
First Release Glitches like not being able to turn if caught in a Taunt during a game change.
    (Taunting Again Cures This)
32 Players on PC, Only 12 for Xbox

Even though it has some issues and Xbox Live stipulations, this game is a breath of fresh air and I encourage anyone who's into a good Medieval Hack n Slash to check this game out. If you have a PC, you're probably playing it right now, but for those who have an Xbox 360 and are bored to tears with all the new Next Gen stuff only coming out, this game will soak up those tears of boredom. Now, Knights of either Blue or Red, go have at thee!!

I'll start out by saying that I haven't played Chivalry on PC. I can only hope that it's a better experience there than on 360.

I picked up this game after hearing good things about its PC version, and also the price was right. But after firing up the game and seeing some loading and menu screens that seemed promising, I was quite disappointed by what the actual gameplay entailed.

You will see some people say that this game has "simple, yet complex" gameplay. That is bull. This game is basically 12 players on Xbox live swinging swords randomly at one another, and due to the lag present in each and every game I played, the victor was whichever one was lucky enough to land a blow a few times before the other.

To it's credit, as a multiplayer game, it offers enough in the way of different modes. There are your run of the mill deathmatch, team deathmatch, and capture the flag modes, along with more objective based matches that offer decent variety for a game of its cost. Problem is, a good amount of game modes don't mean anything if your base gameplay is awful.

And that's where Chivalry fails. Once you get past the glossier loading screens and menus, the game shows it's true colors. The graphics are bad even for a $10 game, the servers lag all the time (the death knell of any multiplayer game), and combat is clunky and disjointed. The game's sounds are so poor it seems as if they are a collection of .wav files found on an internet search.

My experience with this game was this...Probably 10-15 matches, trying out all the classes and as many weapons as I could, and finding that, no matter what class or weapon you pick, close combat is a button-mashing cluster**** where the winner depends far more on luck and lagginess (or lack thereof) than on skill. And forget about the Archer class. In my experience it was utterly unplayable. Aiming with the bows was impossibly difficult, and it even seemed as though your arrows don't go where you shoot them. Not that it matters, as with all the lag it's likely that by the time your arrow reaches what your intended target is, they will have lag-jumped 50 feet from that spot.

Basically, steer clear of this game, at least on consoles. The PC version appears to be far more enjoyable than this one.

You have never seen a forum have the developer by the balls like the Chivalry forum. It has gotten to the point where even the most powerful, slow loading bow requires *2* shots to the *head* of the Vanguard and Knight to take them down. What was a "nice" game for a bit has just continued to go downhill for the last 6-8 months. And don't even get me started on the laughable hit detection in this game for ALL weapons.

In short, not worth your time.

However, offline against bots the game is wonderful, everything works the way it should and the enemies don't have swords in the back of their skulls. In single player the game is enjoyable. The largest downside to single player is that you cannot level up off the bots, therefore you would be stuck at level 1, with all the beginning items not a single way to get the better items. for instance, I want the norse sword, and the killer war axe for the man-at-arms class, but the multiplayer lag makes leveling a giant pain. For instance, a player with a great sword runs past me, swings, (take it into mind that im now behind him) and I still die. despite moving around him. This game is borderline impossible to play online. the only way to get a single kill is to just run straight a swing praying to get a single hit before the lag kills you. I rate this game at a 2 due to these reasons. Sorry to all of you who bought it, 15 dollars down the drain for nothing. Expand

Every single game I've played is a lagfest. It's impossible to land a hit and defend yourself. That is, if you can even bear to run for 5 minutes just to find someone. The maps have not been scaled down for the lowered player cap (12 players.) I feel cheated. This game puts so much emphasis on multiplayer being the main feature of the game, yet it doesn't work. When it was released for the PC in 2012 this First Person Slasher delivered some good combat mechanics. But this console version is technically outdated and isn't able to transcribe its depth. A total mess.
